But there went up a
mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you refuse to do what is right, sin is
crouching at your door; it desires you, but you must master it.”
There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of
renown.
The

well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of
renown.
Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

well for your sake, and on account of you my life will be
spared.”

entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he
asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she
asses, and camels.

Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female
donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels.
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and
beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was
well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed
Sodom and
Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was
well watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed
Sodom and
Gomorrah.)
And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and
smote all the country of the
Amalekites, and also the
Amorites that dwelt in Hazezon-tamar.

Amalekites, as
well as the
Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.

And he said, For these seven
ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have
digged this
well.
He replied, “You are to accept the seven
ewe lambs from my hand as my witness that I
dug this
well.”
And Abraham was old, and
well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
By now Abraham was old and well along in years, and the LORD had blessed him in every way.
And he made his camels to
kneel down without the city by a
well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
As evening approached, he made the camels
kneel down near the
well outside the town at the time when the women went out to draw water.
Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
Here I am, standing beside the spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water.
And let it come to pass, that the
damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Now may it happen that the
girl to whom I say, ‘Please let down your
jar that I may drink,’ and who responds, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels as
well’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. By this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”
And the
damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the
well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
Now the
girl was very beautiful, a virgin who had not had relations with any man. She went down to the spring, filled her
jar, and came up again.
And she hasted, and
emptied her pitcher into the
trough, and ran again unto the
well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
And she quickly
emptied her
jar into the
trough and ran back to the
well to draw water, until she had drawn water for all his camels.

provender enough, and room to
lodge in.

And it came to pass, when he saw the
earring and bracelets upon his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of
Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the
well.
As soon as he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s wrists, and heard
Rebekah’s words, “The man said this to me,” he went and found the man standing by the camels near the spring.
And I came this day unto the
well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now thou do
prosper my way which I go;
So when I came to the spring
today, I prayed: O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if only You would make my journey a success!
Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
Here I am, standing beside this spring. Now if a
maiden comes out to draw water and I say to her, ‘Please let me drink a little water from your
jar,’
And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master’s son.
and she
replies, ‘Drink, and I will draw water for your camels as
well,’ may she be the woman the LORD has appointed for my master’s son.
And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold,
Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the
well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
And before I had finished praying in my heart, there was
Rebekah coming out with her
jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. So I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’
And she made
haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I
drank, and she made the camels drink also.
She quickly lowered her
jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels as
well.’ So I
drank, and she also watered the camels.
And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahai-roi; for he dwelt in the south country.
Now Isaac had just returned from Beer-lahai-roi, for he was living in the Negev.
And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi.
After Abraham’s death, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near Beer-lahai-roi.
For all the
wells which his father’s servants had
digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
So the Philistines took
dirt and stopped up all the
wells that his father’s servants had
dug in the days of his father Abraham.
And Isaac
digged again the
wells of water, which they had
digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
Isaac reopened the
wells that had been
dug in the days of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died. And he gave these
wells the same names his father had given them.
And Isaac’s servants
digged in the valley, and found there a
well of springing water.
Then Isaac’s servants
dug in the valley and found a
well of fresh water there.
And the herdmen of
Gerar did
strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the
well Esek; because they
strove with him.
But the herdsmen of
Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the
well Esek, because they
contended with him.
And they
digged another
well, and
strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
Then they
dug another
well and quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.
And he removed from thence, and
digged another
well; and for that they
strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
He moved on from there and
dug another
well, and they did not quarrel over it. He named it Rehoboth and said, “At last the LORD has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants
digged a
well.
So Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the LORD, and he pitched his tent there. His servants also
dug a
well there.
And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the
well which they had
digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
On that same day, Isaac’s servants came and told him about the
well they had
dug. “We have found water!” they told him.
And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.
He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well.
And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well’s mouth in his place.
When all the flocks had been gathered there, the
shepherds would roll away the stone from the mouth of the
well and water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the
well.
And he said unto them, Is he
well? And they said, He is
well: and, behold,
Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
“Is he
well?” Jacob inquired. “
Yes,” they answered, “and here comes his daughter
Rachel with his sheep.”
And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.
But they replied, “We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”
And it came to pass, when Jacob saw
Rachel the daughter of
Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of
Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the
well’s mouth, and watered the flock of
Laban his mother’s brother.
As soon as Jacob saw
Rachel, the daughter of his mother’s brother
Laban, with
Laban’s sheep, he went up and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the
well and watered his uncle’s sheep.
Leah was tender
eyed; but
Rachel was beautiful and
well favoured.
Leah had weak eyes, but
Rachel was shapely and beautiful.
And he went in also unto
Rachel, and he loved also
Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
Jacob
slept with
Rachel as
well, and indeed, he loved
Rachel more than Leah. So he worked for
Laban another seven years.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was
hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name
Simeon.
Again she conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has given me this son as
well.” So she named him
Simeon.
And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And
Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son’s mandrakes.
But Leah replied, “Is it not enough that you have taken away my husband? Now you want to take my son’s mandrakes as
well?” “Very
well,” said
Rachel, “he may sleep with you
tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.”
Then
Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and
Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of
Gilead.
Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country of
Gilead when
Laban overtook him, and
Laban and his relatives camped there as
well.
Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;
In great fear and distress, Jacob divided his people into two camps, as well as the flocks and herds and camels.
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:
Then Jacob declared, “O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, the LORD who told me, ‘Go back to your country and to your kindred, and I will make you
prosper,’
And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be
well with thy brethren, and
well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the
vale of
Hebron, and he came to
Shechem.
Then Israel told him, “Go now and see how your brothers and the flocks are faring, and bring word back to me.” So he sent him off from the Valley of
Hebron. And when Joseph arrived in
Shechem,
And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he
slew him also.
What he did was wicked in the sight of the LORD, so He put Onan to death as well.
And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not
concern himself with anything except the food he
ate. Now Joseph was
well-built and handsome,
But think on me when it shall be
well with thee, and
shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
But when it goes well for you, please remember me and show me kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, that he might bring me out of this prison.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven
well favoured
kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a
meadow.
when seven cows,
sleek and
well-fed, came up from the river and began to
graze among the reeds.
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other
kine upon the
brink of the river.
After them, seven other cows, sickly and thin, came up from the Nile and stood beside the well-fed cows on the bank of the river.
And the ill favoured and leanfleshed
kine did eat up the seven
well favoured and fat
kine. So Pharaoh
awoke.
And the cows that were sickly and thin
devoured the seven
sleek,
well-fed cows. Then Pharaoh
woke up,
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven
kine, fatfleshed and
well favoured; and they fed in a
meadow:
when seven cows,
well-fed and
sleek, came up from the river and began to
graze among the reeds.
And the
lean and the ill favoured
kine did eat up the first seven fat
kine:
Then the thin,
ugly cows
devoured the seven
well-fed cows that were there first.
Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
Take your brother as well, and return to the man at once.
And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
So the men took these gifts, along with double the amount of silver, and Benjamin as
well. Then they
hurried down to Egypt and stood before Joseph.
And he asked them of their
welfare, and said, Is your father
well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?
He asked if they were well, and then he asked, “How is your elderly father you told me about? Is he still alive?”
And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made
obeisance.
“Your servant our father is well,” they answered. “He is still alive.” And they bowed down to honor him.
And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, Joseph’s brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.
When the news reached Pharaoh’s house that Joseph’s brothers had come, Pharaoh and his servants were pleased.
Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land?
buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not
desolate.
Why should we perish before your eyes—we and our land as
well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become
desolate.”
And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.
“I never expected to see your face again,” Israel said to Joseph, “but now God has let me see your children as well.”
Joseph is a fruitful
bough, even a fruitful
bough by a
well; whose branches run over the wall:
Joseph is a fruitful vine— a fruitful vine by a spring, whose branches scale the wall.
Therefore God dealt
well with the
midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
So God was good to the
midwives, and the people multiplied and became even more numerous.
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to
slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of
Midian: and he sat down by a
well.
When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and settled in the land of
Midian, where he sat down beside a
well.
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the
Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak
well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he
seeth thee, he will be
glad in his heart.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the
Levite your brother? I know that he can speak
well, and he is now on his way to meet you. When he sees you, he will be
glad in his heart.
And Pharaoh
hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.
But Pharaoh
hardened his heart this time as
well, and he would not let the people go.
And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
“As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”
and every
firstborn son in the land of Egypt will die, from the
firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, to the
firstborn of the servant
girl behind the hand mill, as
well as the
firstborn of all the cattle.
Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and
bless me also.
Take your flocks and herds as
well, just as you have said, and depart! And
bless me also.”
And they came to Elim, where were twelve
wells of water, and
threescore and ten palm trees: and they
encamped there by the waters.
Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.
Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine
ass may rest, and the son of thy
handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.
For six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you must cease, so that your ox and your
donkey may rest and the son of your
maidservant may be refreshed, as
well as the foreign resident.
And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and
bowls thereof, to cover
withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them.
You are also to make the plates and dishes, as
well as the pitchers and
bowls for pouring drink offerings. Make them out of pure gold.
The five curtains shall be coupled together one to another; and other five curtains shall be coupled one to another.
Five of the curtains are to be joined together, and the other five joined as well.
And thou shalt make fifty taches of gold, and couple the curtains together with the taches: and it shall be one tabernacle.
Make fifty gold clasps as well, and join the curtains together with the clasps, so that the tabernacle will be a unit.
And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them.
Present his sons as
well and
clothe them with tunics.
And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the
anointing oil, and
sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be
hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.
And take some of the blood on the altar and some of the
anointing oil and
sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, as
well as on his sons and their garments. Then he and his garments will be consecrated, as
well as his sons and their garments.
And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office,
as
well as the
woven garments, both the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests,
And
spice, and oil for the light, and for the
anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.
as
well as spices and olive oil for the light, for the
anointing oil, and for the
fragrant incense.
And every wise hearted man among them that wrought the work of the tabernacle made ten curtains of fine
twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: with cherubims of
cunning work made he them.
All the skilled
craftsmen among the workmen made the ten curtains for the tabernacle. They were made of finely
spun linen, as
well as blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, with
cherubim skillfully worked into them.
And he coupled the five curtains one unto another: and the other five curtains he coupled one unto another.
And he joined five of the curtains together, and the other five he joined as well.
And he made the vessels which were upon the table, his dishes, and his spoons, and his
bowls, and his covers to cover
withal, of pure gold.
He also made the utensils for the table out of pure gold: its plates and dishes, as
well as its
bowls and pitchers for pouring drink offerings.
And for the other side of the court gate, on this hand and that hand, were hangings of fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.
And the curtains on the other side were also fifteen cubits long, with three posts and three bases as well.
And their pillars were four, and their sockets of brass four; their hooks of silver, and the overlaying of their chapiters and their fillets of silver.
with four posts and four bronze bases. Their hooks were silver, as well as the bands and the plating of their tops.
And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses.
From the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn they made specially
woven garments for ministry in the sanctuary, as
well as the holy garments for Aaron, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And a
mitre of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine linen, and linen
breeches of fine
twined linen,
as
well as the
turban of fine linen, the
ornate headbands and undergarments of finely
spun linen,
The pure
candlestick, with the lamps thereof, even with the lamps to be set in order, and all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light,
the pure gold lampstand with its row of lamps and all its utensils, as well as the oil for the light;
And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the
candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.
Then bring in the table and set out its arrangement; bring in the lampstand as well, and set up its lamps.
In a pan it shall be made with oil; and when it is
baken, thou shalt bring it in: and the
baken pieces of the meat offering shalt thou offer for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
It shall be prepared with oil on a
griddle; you are to bring it
well-
kneaded and present it as a grain offering broken in pieces, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
And he took the fat, and the
rump, and all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the
caul above the liver, and the two
kidneys, and their fat, and the right shoulder:
And Moses took the fat—the fat tail, all the fat that was on the
entrails, the
lobe of the liver, and both
kidneys with their fat—as
well as the right
thigh.
And Moses took of the
anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and
sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons’ garments with him; and
sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.
Next, Moses took some of the
anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and
sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments, as
well as Aaron’s sons and their garments.
And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other
morter, and shall
plaister the house.
So different stones must be obtained to replace the
contaminated ones, as
well as additional mortar to replaster the house.
He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.
He may eat the most holy food of his God as well as the holy food,
