When evening approaches, he must wash with water, and when the sun sets he may return to the camp.
And thou shalt have a
paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be,
when thou
wilt ease
thyself abroad, thou shalt
dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:
When thou shalt
vow a
vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not
slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
If you make a
vow to the LORD your God, do not be slow to keep it, because He will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin.
When thou comest into thy neighbour’s
vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.

neighbor’s
vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes, but you must not put any in your
basket.
When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest
pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a

When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

indecency in her, he may write her a
certificate of
divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.
And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife.
If, after leaving his house, she goes and becomes another man’s wife,
When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall
cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married.
When thou
dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to
fetch his
pledge.
When you
lend anything to your
neighbor, do not enter his house to collect security.
In any case thou shalt deliver him the
pledge again
when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own
raiment, and
bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.
be sure to return it to him by
sunset, so that he may sleep in his own
cloak and
bless you, and this will be credited to you as righteousness before the LORD your God.
When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast
forgot a
sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to
fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may
bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
If you are harvesting in your field and
forget a
sheaf there, do not go back to get it. It is to be left for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may
bless you in all the work of your hands.
When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
When you beat the olives from your trees, you must not go over the branches again. What remains will be for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy
vineyard, thou shalt not
glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
When you gather the grapes of your
vineyard, you must not go over the vines again. What remains will be for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow.
Thou shalt not
muzzle the ox
when he treadeth out the corn.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
When brothers dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and
fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
When men
strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
If two men are fighting, and the wife of one steps in to
rescue her husband from the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and grabs his
genitals,
Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;
Remember what the
Amalekites did to you along your way from Egypt,
How he met thee by the way, and
smote the
hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee,
when thou
wast faint and
weary; and he feared not God.
how they met you on your journey
when you were
tired and
weary, and they attacked all your stragglers; they had no fear of God.
Therefore it shall be,
when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt
blot out the
remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not
forget it.
When the LORD your God gives you rest from the enemies around you in the land that He is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you are to
blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not
forget!
And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and settle in it,
And
when we
cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our
affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:
So we called out to the LORD, the God of our fathers; and the LORD heard our voice and saw our
affliction,
toil, and oppression.
When thou hast made an end of
tithing all the
tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of
tithing, and hast given it unto the
Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;
When you have finished laying aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the
tithe, you are to give it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat and be filled within your gates.
And it shall be on the day
when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and
plaister them with
plaister:
And on the day you cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, set up large stones and coat them with
plaster.
And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.
Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Therefore it shall be
when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount
Ebal, and thou shalt
plaister them with
plaister.
And
when you have crossed the Jordan, you are to set up these stones on Mount
Ebal, as I am commanding you
today, and you are to coat them with
plaster.
These shall stand upon mount
Gerizim to
bless the people,
when ye are come over Jordan;
Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and
Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:
“
When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount
Gerizim to
bless the people:
Simeon, Levi, Judah,
Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.
Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
Cursed shalt thou be
when thou comest in, and
cursed shalt thou be
when thou goest out.
You will be
cursed when you come in and
cursed when you go out.
And
when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of
Heshbon, and
Og the king of
Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we
smote them:
When you reached this place, Sihon king of
Heshbon and
Og king of
Bashan came out against us in battle, but we defeated them.
And it come to pass,
when he heareth the words of this
curse, that he
bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add
drunkenness to
thirst:
because
when such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself, saying, ‘I will have peace, even though I walk in the
stubbornness of my own heart.’ This will bring
disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.
So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.
Then men shall say, Because they have
forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them
when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
And the people will answer, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.
And it shall come to pass,
when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the
curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations,
whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
“When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God has banished you,
And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
and
when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey His voice with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you
today,
And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.
When Moses had finished speaking these words to all Israel,
And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to
Og, kings of the
Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.
And the LORD will do to them as He did to Sihon and
Og, the kings of the
Amorites,
when He destroyed them along with their land.
When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
when all Israel comes before the LORD your God at the place He will choose, you are to read this law in the hearing of all Israel.
For
when I shall have brought them into the land which I
sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and
waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and
provoke me, and break my covenant.
When I have brought them into the land that I
swore to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey, they will eat their fill and
prosper. Then they will turn to other gods and worship them, and they will
reject Me and break My covenant.
And it shall come to pass,
when many evils and troubles are
befallen them, that this song shall
testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I
sware.
And
when many troubles and afflictions have come upon them, this song will
testify against them, because it will not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants. For I know their inclination, even before I bring them into the land that I
swore to give them.”
And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
When Moses had finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end,
When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.
When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He divided the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.
And
when the LORD saw it, he
abhorred them, because of the
provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.
When the LORD saw this, He rejected them,
provoked to anger by His sons and daughters.
For the LORD shall judge his people, and
repent himself for his servants,
when he
seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.
For the LORD will
vindicate His people and have
compassion on His servants
when He sees that their strength is gone and no one remains, slave or free.
If I
whet my
glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render
vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that
hate me.
And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel:
When Moses had finished
reciting all these words to all Israel,
And he was king in
Jeshurun,
when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.
So the LORD became King in
Jeshurun when the leaders of the people gathered,
when the tribes of Israel came together.
And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I
sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
And the LORD said to him, “This is the land that I
swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross into it.”
And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old
when he died: his eye was not
dim, nor his natural force
abated.
Moses was a hundred and twenty years old
when he died, yet his eyes were not weak, and his
vitality had not diminished.
Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
“Remember what Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you when he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest, and He will give you this land.’
And the woman took the two men, and
hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I
wist not
whence they were:
But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. So she said, “
Yes, the men did come to me, but I did not know where they had come from.
And it came to pass about the time of
shutting of the gate,
when it was dark, that the men went out:
whither the men went I
wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
At
dusk,
when the gate was about to close, the men went out, and I do not know which way they went. Pursue them quickly, and you may catch them!”
For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you,
when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the
Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and
Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you
when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and
Og, the two kings of the
Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction.
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did
melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
When we heard this, our hearts melted and
everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in the heavens above and on the earth below.
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
“Our lives for your lives!” the men agreed. “If you do not report our mission, we will show you kindness and faithfulness when the LORD gives us the land.”
Behold,
when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou
didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
unless,
when we enter the land, you have
tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother and brothers and all your family into your house.
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
“Let it be as you say,” she replied, and she sent them away. And
when they had gone, she
tied the scarlet cord in the window.
And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
and commanded the people: “
When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the
Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and follow it.
And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying,
When ye are come to the
brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the waters, stand in the Jordan.’”
And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an
heap.
When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—touch down in the waters of the Jordan, its flowing waters will be cut off and will stand up in a
heap.”
And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
So
when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of the covenant
ahead of them.
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,
That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD;
when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a
memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
you are to tell them, ‘The waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
When it crossed the Jordan, the waters were cut off.’ Therefore these stones will be a
memorial to the Israelites
forever.”
And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
and after
everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the sight of the people.
And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?
Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones?’
And it came to pass,
when all the kings of the
Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the
Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
Now
when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the
Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and their spirits failed for fear of the Israelites.
And it came to pass,
when they had done
circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
And after all the nation had been
circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they were
healed.
And it came to pass,
when Joshua was by
Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our
adversaries?
Now
when Joshua was near
Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand. Joshua approached Him and asked, “Are You for us or for our enemies?”
And it shall come to pass, that
when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and
when ye hear the sound of the
trumpet, all the people shall
shout with a great
shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall
ascend up every man straight before him.
And
when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty
shout. Then the wall of the city will
collapse and all your people will charge straight into the city.”
And it came to pass,
when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven
trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD, and
blew with the
trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
After Joshua had spoken to the people, seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns before the LORD advanced and
blew the horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
And it came to pass at the seventh time,
when the priests
blew with the
trumpets, Joshua said unto the people,
Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.
After the seventh time around, the priests
blew the horns, and Joshua commanded the people, “
Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!
But keep away from the things devoted to destruction, lest you
yourself be set apart for destruction. If you take any of these, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring
disaster upon it.
So the people
shouted when the priests
blew with the
trumpets: and it came to pass,
when the people heard the sound of the
trumpet, and the people
shouted with a great
shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
So
when the rams’ horns sounded, the people
shouted.
When they heard the blast of the horn, the people gave a great
shout, and the wall
collapsed. Then all the people charged straight into the city and captured it.
O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
O Lord, what can I say, now that Israel has turned its back and run from its enemies?
For the
Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall
environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what
wilt thou do unto thy great name?
When the
Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will
surround us and
wipe out our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”
When I saw among the spoils a goodly
Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a
wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I
coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are
hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
When I saw among the spoils a beautiful
cloak from
Shinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I
coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver
underneath.”
And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass,
when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will
flee before them,
Then I and all the troops with me will advance on the city.
When they come out against us as they did the first time, we will
flee from them.
And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
And when you have taken the city, set it on fire. Do as the LORD has commanded! See, I have given you orders.”
And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
So the forces were stationed with the main camp to the north of the city and the rear guard to the west of the city. And that night Joshua went into the valley.
And it came to pass,
when the king of
Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he
wist not that there were liers in
ambush against him behind the city.
When the king of
Ai saw the Israelites, he
hurried out early in the morning with the men of the city to
engage them in battle at an appointed place overlooking the Arabah. But he did not know that an
ambush had been set up against him behind the city.
And
when the men of
Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to
flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
When the men of
Ai turned and looked back, the smoke of the city was rising into the sky. They could not escape in any direction, and the troops who had fled to the wilderness now became the pursuers.
And
when Joshua and all Israel saw that the
ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and
slew the men of
Ai.
When Joshua and all Israel saw that the men in
ambush had captured the city and that smoke was rising from it, they turned around and struck down the men of
Ai.
And it came to pass,
when Israel had made an end of
slaying all the inhabitants of
Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they
chased them, and
when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto
Ai, and
smote it with the edge of the sword.
When Israel had finished killing all the men of
Ai who had pursued them into the field and wilderness, and
when every last one of them had fallen by the sword, all the Israelites returned to
Ai and put it to the sword as well.
And it came to pass,
when all the kings which were on this side Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea over against
Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the
Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;
And
when the inhabitants of
Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto
Jericho and to
Ai,
But the people of
Gibeon, having heard what Joshua had done to
Jericho and
Ai,
And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?
“We are your servants,” they said to Joshua. Then Joshua asked them, “Who are you and where have you come from?”
This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and it is
mouldy:
This bread of ours was warm
when we
packed it at home on the day we left to come to you. But take a look, it is now dry and
moldy.
And these bottles of wine, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they be rent: and these our garments and our
shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.
These wineskins were new
when we filled them, but look, they are
cracked. And these clothes and
sandals are worn out from our very long journey.”
And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye
beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you;
when ye dwell among us?
Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said, “Why did you
deceive us by telling us you live far away from us,
when in fact you live among us?
Now it came to pass,
when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken
Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to
Jericho and her king, so he had done to
Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
Now Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured
Ai and devoted it to destruction—doing to
Ai and its king as he had done to
Jericho and its king—and that the people of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living near them.
Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day
when the LORD delivered up the
Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon
Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
On the day that the LORD gave the
Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “O sun, stand still over
Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of
Aijalon.”
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD
hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
There has been no day like it before or since,
when the LORD
listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD fought for Israel.
And it came to pass,
when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of
slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, that the rest which remained of them entered into
fenced cities.
