And Saul died, and
Baal-hanan the son of
Achbor reigned in his
stead.
When Shaul died,
Baal-hanan son of
Achbor reigned in his place.
And
Baal-hanan the son of
Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was
Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
When
Baal-hanan son of
Achbor died,
Hadad reigned in his place. His city was named
Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-zahab.
But the children of Israel committed a
trespass in the
accursed thing: for
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the
accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled against the children of Israel.
The Israelites, however, acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction.
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.
And he brought his household man by man; and
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
And he had the family of Zabdi come forward man by man, and
Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.
And Joshua said unto
Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
So Joshua said to
Achan, “My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make a confession to Him. I
urge you to tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”
And
Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have
sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
“It is true,”
Achan replied, “I have
sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I did:
And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took
Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the
wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his
asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of
Achor.
Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took
Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the
cloak, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen and
donkeys and sheep, his tent, and everything else he owned, and brought them to the Valley of
Achor.
And they raised over him a great
heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of
Achor, unto this day.
And they
heaped over
Achan a large pile of rocks that remains to this day. So the LORD turned from His burning anger. Therefore that place is called the Valley of
Achor to this day.
And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
Now when Jabin king of Hazor heard about these things, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon; to the kings of Shimron and Achshaph;
The king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;
the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;
And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of
Achor, and so northward, looking toward
Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel:
Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of
Achor, turning north to
Gilgal, which faces the
Ascent of Adummim south of the
ravine. It continued along the waters of En-shemesh and came out at En-rogel.
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give
Achsah my daughter to wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of
Caleb, took it: and he gave him
Achsah his daughter to wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
And Keilah, and
Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:
Keilah,
Achzib, and Mareshah—nine cities, along with their villages.
And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph,
Their territory included Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph,
And then the coast turneth to
Ramah, and to the strong city Tyre; and the coast turneth to Hosah; and the outgoings thereof are at the sea from the coast to
Achzib:
The border then turned back toward
Ramah as far as the fortified city of Tyre, turned toward Hosah, and came out at the Sea in the region of
Achzib,
Did not
Achan the son of Zerah commit a
trespass in the
accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
Was not
Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not only
Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give
Achsah my daughter to wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz,
Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him
Achsah his daughter to wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of
Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of
Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
Asher failed to drive out the inhabitants of Acco,
Sidon, Ahlab,
Achzib, Helbah, Aphik, and Rehob.
And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to
Achish the king of
Gath.
That day David fled from Saul and went to
Achish king of
Gath.
And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
But the servants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David, the king of the land? Did they not sing about him in their dances, saying: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands’?”
And David laid up these words in his heart, and was
sore afraid of
Achish the king of
Gath.
Now David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of
Achish the king of
Gath.
Then said
Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is
mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?
Then
Achish said to his servants, “Look, you can see that the man is
insane! Why have you brought him to me?
And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto
Achish, the son of Maoch, king of
Gath.
So David set out with his six hundred men and went to
Achish son of Maoch, the king of
Gath.
And David dwelt with
Achish at
Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and
Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
David and his men settled in
Gath with
Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives: Ahinoam of
Jezreel and
Abigail of
Carmel, the widow of Nabal.
And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let me be assigned a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. For why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
Then
Achish gave him
Ziklag that day: wherefore
Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
That day
Achish gave him
Ziklag, and to this day it still belongs to the kings of Judah.
And David
smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the
asses, and the camels, and the
apparel, and returned, and came to
Achish.
Whenever David attacked a territory, he did not leave a man or woman alive, but he took the flocks and herds, the
donkeys, camels, and clothing. Then he would return to
Achish,
And
Achish said,
Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the
Kenites.
who would ask him, “What have you
raided today?” And David would reply, “The Negev of Judah,” or “The Negev of Jerahmeel,” or “The Negev of the
Kenites.”
And
Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to
abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.
So
Achish trusted David, thinking, “Since he has made himself an utter
stench to his people Israel, he will be my servant
forever.”
And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And
Achish said unto David, Know thou
assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.
Now in those days the Philistines gathered their forces for warfare against Israel. So Achish said to David, “You must understand that you and your men are to go out to battle with me.”
And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever.
David replied, “Then you will come to know what your servant can do.” “Very well,” said
Achish. “I will make you my
bodyguard for life.”
And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish.
As the
Philistine leaders marched out their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men marched behind them with
Achish.
Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day?
Then the commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David, the servant of King Saul of Israel? He has been with me all these days, even years, and from the day he defected until
today I have found no fault in him.”
And the princes of the Philistines were
wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an
adversary to us: for
wherewith should he
reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
But the commanders of the Philistines were
angry with
Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our
adversary during the war. What better way for him to regain the favor of his master than with the heads of our men?
Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
So Achish summoned David and told him, “As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright in my sight, and it seems right that you should march in and out with me in the army, because I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until this day. But you have no favor in the sight of the leaders.
And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
“But what have I done?” David replied. “What have you found against your servant, from the day I came to you until
today, to keep me from going along to fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
Achish replied, “I know that you are as pleasing in my sight as an angel of God. But the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He must not go into battle with us.’
And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto
Achish son of Maachah king of
Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in
Gath.
After three years, however, two of Shimei’s slaves ran away to
Achish son of
Maacah, king of
Gath. And Shimei was told, “Look, your slaves are in
Gath.”
And Shimei arose, and
saddled his
ass, and went to
Gath to
Achish to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from
Gath.
So Shimei
saddled his
donkey and set out to
Achish at
Gath in search of his slaves, and he brought them back from
Gath.
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,
Now when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all that he had desired to do,
And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and
Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the
scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
and commanded Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam son of Shaphan,
Achbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah the servant of the king:
So Hilkiah the priest, and
Ahikam, and
Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
So Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam,
Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.
And when Shaul was dead,
Baal-hanan the son of
Achbor reigned in his
stead.
When Shaul died,
Baal-hanan son of
Achbor reigned in his place.
The son of Carmi:
Achar, who brought trouble upon Israel by
violating the
ban on devoted things.
She bare also Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah, and the father of Gibea: and the daughter of
Caleb was
Achsa.
She was also the mother of Shaaph father of Madmannah, and of Sheva father of Machbenah and Gibea.
Caleb’s daughter was Acsah.
And there was found at
Achmetha, in the palace that is in the province of the Medes, a roll, and therein was a record thus written:
And a
scroll was found in the fortress of
Ecbatana, in the province of Media, with the following written on it:
Memorandum:
Even in
laughter the heart may
ache, and joy may end in sorrow.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be achieved.
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and
vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
Yet when I considered all the works that my hands had accomplished and what I had
toiled to
achieve, I found everything to be
futile, a pursuit of the wind; there was nothing to be gained under the sun.
And
Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of
Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.
Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of
Achor a resting place for herds, for My people who seek Me.
And
Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of
Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.
Then King
Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: Elnathan son of
Achbor along with some other men.
Then he went down into the king’s house, into the
scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the
scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of
Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and
Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
he went down to the
scribe’s chamber in the king’s palace, where all the officials were sitting: Elishama the
scribe, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of
Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan,
Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials.
And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of
Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
There I will give back her vineyards and make the Valley of
Achor into a
gateway of hope. There she will
respond as she did in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.
Therefore shalt thou give presents to Moresheth-
gath: the houses of
Achzib shall be a lie to the kings of Israel.
Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of
Ahaz, and
Ahaz the father of
Hezekiah.
Azor was the father of
Zadok,
Zadok the father of
Achim, and
Achim the father of Eliud.
And when
Gallio was the deputy of
Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one
accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
And when he was disposed to pass into
Achaia, the brethren wrote,
exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
When Apollos resolved to cross over to
Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to
welcome him. On his arrival, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.
After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through
Macedonia and
Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
After these things had happened, Paul resolved in the Spirit to go to Jerusalem after he had passed through
Macedonia and
Achaia. “After I have been there,” he said, “I must see Rome as well.”
For it hath pleased them of
Macedonia and
Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
For
Macedonia and
Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
Likewise
greet the church that is in their house.
Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of
Achaia unto Christ.
Greet also the church that meets at their house.
Greet my beloved Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia.
I
beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of
Achaia, and that they have
addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
You know that Stephanas and his household were the first converts in
Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. Now I
urge you, brothers,
I am
glad of the coming of Stephanas and
Fortunatus and
Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
I am
glad that Stephanas,
Fortunatus, and
Achaicus have arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you.
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and
Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all
Achaia:
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and
Timothy our brother, To the church of God in Corinth, together with all the saints throughout
Achaia:
For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I
boast of you to them of
Macedonia, that
Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath
provoked very many.
For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been
boasting to the Macedonians that since last year you in
Achaia were prepared to give. And your zeal has
stirred most of them to do likewise.
As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this
boasting in the regions of
Achaia.
As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, this
boasting of mine will not be silenced in the regions of
Achaia.
As a result, you have become an example to all the believers in
Macedonia and
Achaia.
For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in
Macedonia and
Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
For not only did the message of the Lord ring out from you to
Macedonia and
Achaia, but your faith in God has gone out to every place, so that we have no need to say anything more.
The son of Sadduc, the son of
Achitob, the son of Amarias, the son of Ezias, the son of Meremoth, the son of Zaraias, the son of Savias, the son of Boccas, the son of Abisum, the son of Phinees, the son of
Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest.
The second book of the prophet
Esdras, the son of Saraias, the son of Azarias, the son of Helchias, the son of Sadamias, the son of Sadoc, the son of
Achitob,
The son of
Achias, the son of Phinees, the son of Heli, the son of Amarias, the son of Aziei, the son of Marimoth, the son of
Arna, the son of Ozias, the son of Borith, the son of Abisei, the son of Phinees, the son of
Eleazar,
And Jesus after him for Israel in the time of
Achan:
And there passed not five and fifty days, before two of his sons killed him, and they fled into the mountains of Ararath; and Sarchedonus his son reigned in his
stead; who appointed over his father’s accounts, and over all his affairs,
Achiacharus my brother Anael’s son.
And
Achiacharus intreating for me, I returned to Nineve. Now
Achiacharus was
cupbearer, and keeper of the
signet, and
steward, and
overseer of the accounts: and Sarchedonus appointed him next unto him: and he was my brother’s son.
And I knew not that there were sparrows in the wall, and mine eyes being open, the sparrows muted warm dung into mine eyes, and a whiteness came in mine eyes: and I went to the physicians, but they helped me not: moreover
Achiacharus did
nourish me, until I went into Elymais.
And Achiacharus, and Nasbas his brother’s son, came:
And
bury me decently, and thy mother with me; but
tarry no longer at Nineve. Remember, my son, how Aman handled
Achiacharus that brought him up, how out of light he brought him into darkness, and how he rewarded him again: yet
Achiacharus was saved, but the other had his reward: for he went down into darkness. Manasses gave
alms, and escaped the snares of death which they had set for him: but Aman fell into the
snare, and perished.
Then said
Achior, the captain of all the sons of
Ammon, Let my lord now hear a word from the mouth of thy servant, and I will declare unto thee the truth concerning this people, which dwelleth near thee, and inhabiteth the hill countries: and there shall no lie come out of the mouth of thy servant.
And when
Achior had finished these sayings, all the people standing round about the tent
murmured, and the chief men of Holofernes, and all that dwelt by the sea side, and in Moab, spake that he should kill him.
And when the
tumult of men that were about the council was ceased, Holofernes the chief captain of the army of Assur said unto
Achior and all the Moabites before all the company of other nations,
And who art thou,
Achior, and the hirelings of Ephraim, that thou hast
prophesied against us as to day, and hast said, that we should not make war with the people of Israel, because their God will defend them? and who is God but Nabuchodonosor?
And thou,
Achior, an
hireling of
Ammon, which hast spoken these words in the day of thine iniquity, shalt see my face no more from this day, until I take
vengeance of this nation that came out of Egypt.
Then Holofernes commanded his servants, that waited in his tent, to take Achior, and bring him to Bethulia, and deliver him into the hands of the children of Israel.
Nevertheless having
gotten privily under the hill, they bound
Achior, and cast him down, and left him at the foot of the hill, and returned to their lord.
And they called together all the ancients of the city, and all their youth ran together, and their women, to the assembly, and they set Achior in the midst of all their people. Then Ozias asked him of that which was done.
Then they comforted Achior, and praised him greatly.
Now as concerning the matter, which Achior did speak in thy council, we have heard his words; for the men of Bethulia saved him, and he declared unto them all that he had spoken unto thee.
But before ye do these things, call me
Achior the
Ammonite, that he may see and know him that
despised the house of Israel, and that sent him to us as it were to his death.
Then they called Achior out of the house of Ozias; and when he was come, and saw the head of Holofernes in a man’s hand in the assembly of the people, he fell down on his face, and his spirit failed.
And when
Achior had seen all that the God of Israel had done, he believed in God greatly, and
circumcised the flesh of his
foreskin, and was joined unto the house of Israel unto this day.
