The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the
everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.
The blessings of your father have surpassed the blessings of the
ancient mountains and the
bounty of the
everlasting hills. May they rest on the head of Joseph, on the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills,
The river of
Kishon swept them away, that
ancient river, the river
Kishon. O my soul, thou hast
trodden down strength.
The River
Kishon swept them away, the
ancient river, the River
Kishon. March on, O my soul, in strength!
As saith the
proverb of the
ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.

And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the
Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
Now David and his men went up and
raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the
Amalekites. (From
ancient times these people had inhabited the land extending to Shur and Egypt.)
Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of
ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste
fenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
And Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and
Joash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. And these are

ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes,

wept loudly when they saw the foundation of this temple. Still, many others
shouted joyfully.
That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a
rebellious city, and
hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved
sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

verify that the city is a
rebellious city,
harmful to kings and provinces,
inciting sedition from
ancient times. That is why this city was destroyed.
And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and
sedition have been made therein.
I issued a decree, and a search was conducted. It was discovered that this city has revolted against kings from
ancient times,
engaging in rebellion and
sedition.

Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life.

trodden?
Will you stay on the
ancient path that wicked men have
trod?
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye
everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
Lift up your heads, O gates! Be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of Glory may enter!
Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye
everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
Lift up your heads, O gates! Be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of Glory may enter!

I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.

I
discern more than the elders, for I obey Your precepts.
Remove not the
ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
Do not move an ancient boundary stone which your fathers have placed.
Remove not the old
landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
Do not move an
ancient boundary stone or
encroach on the fields of the fatherless,
The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the
prudent, and the
ancient,
the mighty man and the
warrior, the judge and the prophet, the
soothsayer and the elder,
And the people shall be
oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall
behave himself proudly against the
ancient, and the base against the honourable.
The people will
oppress one another, man against man,
neighbor against
neighbor; the young will rise up against the old, and the base against the honorable.
The LORD will enter into judgment with the
ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the
vineyard; the
spoil of the poor is in your houses.
The LORD brings this charge against the elders and leaders of His people: “You have
devoured the
vineyard; the
plunder of the poor is in your houses.
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
The head is the elder and honorable man, and the tail is the prophet who teaches lies.
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become
brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of
ancient kings?
The princes of Zoan are mere fools; Pharaoh’s wise counselors give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am one of the wise, a son of eastern kings”?
Ye made also a
ditch between the two walls for the water of the old
pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.
You built a
reservoir between the walls for the waters of the
ancient pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or consider Him who
planned it long ago.
Is this your
joyous city, whose antiquity is of
ancient days? her own feet shall carry her
afar off to
sojourn.
Is this your
jubilant city, whose origin is from antiquity, whose feet have taken her to settle far away?
Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun
ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount
Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his
ancients gloriously.

Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His elders with great glory.
Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of
ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into
ruinous heaps.

planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the
ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them
shew unto them.
Who then is like Me? Let him say so! Let him declare his case before Me, since I established an
ancient people. Let him
foretell the things to come, and what is to take place.
Tell ye, and bring them near;
yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from
ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
Speak up and present your case—
yes, let them take counsel together. Who
foretold this long ago? Who
announced it from
ancient times? Was it not I, the LORD? There is no other God but Me, a righteous God and
Savior; there is none but Me.

accomplish.’
I was
wroth with my people, I have
polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou
didst shew them no mercy; upon the
ancient hast thou very
heavily laid thy yoke.
I was
angry with My people; I
profaned My
heritage, and I placed them under your control. You showed them no mercy; even on the elderly you laid a most heavy yoke.
Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD;
awake, as in the
ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut
Rahab, and wounded the
dragon?
Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD.
Wake up as in days past, as in generations of old. Was it not You who cut
Rahab to pieces, who pierced through the
dragon?
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of the Streets of Dwelling.
And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
They will rebuild the
ancient ruins; they will restore the places long
devastated; they will renew the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to
stumble in their ways from the
ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
Yet My people have forgotten Me. They burn incense to worthless idols that make them
stumble in their ways, leaving the
ancient roads to walk on
rutted bypaths instead of on the
highway.
Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a
potter’s
earthen bottle, and take of the
ancients of the people, and of the
ancients of the priests;
This is what the LORD says: “Go and
buy a clay
jar from a
potter. Take some of the elders of the people and leaders of the priests,
Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.
Disaster upon
disaster will come, and
rumor after
rumor. Then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but instruction from the priests will perish, as will counsel from the elders.
And there stood before them seventy men of the
ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his
censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
Before them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had a
censer in his hand, and a
fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the
ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his
imagery? for they say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the
shrine of his own
idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the land.’”
Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the
ancient men which were before the house.
Slaughter the old men, the young men and maidens, the women and children; but do not go near
anyone who has the mark. Now begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by
revenge, and have taken
vengeance with a
despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because the Philistines acted in
vengeance, taking
vengeance with
malice of soul to destroy Judah with
ancient hostility,
When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places
desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;
then I will bring you down with those who descend to the Pit, to the people of antiquity. I will make you dwell in the earth below like the
ancient ruins, with those who descend to the Pit, so that you will no longer be inhabited or set in
splendor in the land of the living.
The
ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy

Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their
calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
Because you
harbored an
ancient hatred and delivered the Israelites over to the sword in the time of their
disaster at the final stage of their punishment,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you,
Aha, even the
ancient high places are ours in possession:
This is what the Lord GOD says: Because the enemy has said of you, ‘
Aha! The
ancient heights have become our possession,’
I
beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the
Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the
fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
As I continued to watch, thrones were set in place, and the
Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all
ablaze.

In my vision in the night I continued to watch, and I saw One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence.

beheld, and drove

Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not

And
spared not the old world, but saved
Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
if He did not
spare the
ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved
Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight;
And the great
dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and
Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
And the great
dragon was
hurled down—that
ancient serpent called the devil and
Satan, the
deceiver of the whole world. He was
hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
And he laid hold on the
dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and
Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
He seized the
dragon, that
ancient serpent who is the devil and
Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

And the children of Israel did as Joacim the high priest had commanded them, with the ancients of all the people of Israel, which dwelt at Jerusalem.
And they called together all the ancients of the city, and all their youth ran together, and their women, to the assembly, and they set Achior in the midst of all their people. Then Ozias asked him of that which was done.
Then she sent her waitingwoman, that had the government of all things that she had, to call Ozias and Chabris and Charmis, the ancients of the city.
Thus they went forth to the gate of the city of Bethulia, and found standing there Ozias and the ancients of the city, Chabris and Charmis.
Then Joacim the high priest, and the
ancients of the children of Israel that dwelt in Jerusalem, came to behold the good things that God had shewed to Israel, and to see
Judith, and to
salute her.
Now ye may see this, as we have declared, not so much by
ancient histories, as ye may, if ye search what hath been wickedly done of late through the
pestilent behaviour of them that are
unworthily placed in authority.
Let us
oppress the poor righteous man, let us not
spare the widow, nor reverence the
ancient gray hairs of the aged.
But
miserable are they, and in dead things is their hope, who call them gods, which are the works of men’s hands, gold and silver, to
shew art in, and resemblances of beasts, or a stone good for nothing, the work of an
ancient hand.
O how comely a thing is judgment for gray hairs, and for ancient men to know counsel!
If thou be among great men, make not
thyself equal with them; and when
ancient men are in place, use not many words.

meditation thereof, will seek out the wisdom of all the
ancient, and be occupied in
prophecies.

ancients of the people to be judges, such as the Lord spake of, that wickedness came from Babylon from
ancient judges, who seemed to
govern the people.
The
ancient men sat all in the streets, communing together of good things, and the young men put on glorious and warlike
apparel.
Neither was it lawful for a man to keep sabbath days or
ancient fasts, or to
profess himself at all to be a
Jew.
But he began to consider
discreetly, and as became his age, and the
excellency of his
ancient years, and the honour of his gray head,
whereon was come, and his most
honest education from a child, or rather the holy law made and given by God: therefore he answered accordingly, and willed them
straightways to send him to the grave.
