And he went out,
and wept bitterly.
Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken: “Before the

When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
When morning came, all the chief priests
and elders of the people
conspired against Jesus to put Him to death.
And when they had bound him, they led him away,
and delivered him to Pontius
Pilate the governor.
They bound Him, led Him away,
and handed Him over to
Pilate the governor.
Then
Judas, which had
betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself,
and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests
and elders,

betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with
remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests
and elders.
Saying, I have
sinned in that I have
betrayed the innocent blood.
And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple,
and departed,
and went
and hanged himself.
So
Judas threw the silver into the temple
and left. Then he went away
and hanged himself.
And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
The chief priests
picked up the pieces of silver
and said, “It is unlawful to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
And they took counsel,
and bought with them the
potter’s field, to
bury strangers in.
After

buy the
potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.

And gave them for the
potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
and they gave them for the
potter’s field, as the Lord had commanded me.”
And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
And when He was accused by the chief priests and elders, He gave no answer.
But Jesus gave no answer, not even to a single charge, much to the governor’s
amazement.
And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
At that time they were holding a
notorious prisoner named Barabbas.
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus put to death.
The governor answered
and said unto them, Whether of the
twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they replied.
And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they
cried out the more, saying, Let him be
crucified.
When
Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a
tumult was made, he took water,
and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
When
Pilate saw that he was
accomplishing nothing, but that instead a
riot was breaking out, he took water
and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “You bear the
responsibility.”
Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”
Then released he Barabbas unto them:
and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be
crucified.

And when they had
platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head,
and a reed in his right hand:
and they bowed the
knee before him,
and mocked him, saying,
Hail, King of the Jews!
And they twisted together a crown of thorns
and set it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand
and knelt down before Him to
mock Him, saying, “
Hail, King of the Jews!”
And they
spit upon him,
and took the reed,
and smote him on the head.
Then they
spit on Him
and took the staff
and struck Him on the head repeatedly.
And after that they had
mocked him, they took the
robe off from him,
and put his own
raiment on him,
and led him away to
crucify him.
After they had
mocked Him, they removed the
robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him away to
crucify Him.
And as they came out, they found a man of
Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
Along the way they found a man from
Cyrene, named Simon,
and they forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.
And when they were come unto a place called
Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
And when they came to a place called
Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull,
They gave him
vinegar to drink mingled with gall:
and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it.
And they
crucified him,
and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them,
and upon my
vesture did they cast lots.
When they had
crucified Him, they divided up His garments by casting lots.
And sitting down they watched him there;
And sitting down, they kept watch over Him there.
And set up over his head his
accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Above His head they posted the written charge against Him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Then were there two
thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand,
and another on the left.
Two robbers were
crucified with Him, one on His right hand
and the other on His left.
And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple,
and buildest it in three days, save
thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple
and rebuild it in three days, save
Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”
Likewise also the chief priests
mocking him, with the
scribes and elders, said,
In the same way, the chief priests,
scribes,
and elders
mocked Him, saying,
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
“He saved others, but He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
And about the ninth hour Jesus
cried with a loud voice, saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou
forsaken me?
About the ninth hour Jesus
cried out in a loud voice, “
Eli,
Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You
forsaken Me?”
And straightway one of them ran,
and took a
spunge,
and filled it with
vinegar,
and put it on a reed,
and gave him to drink.
One of them quickly ran
and brought a
sponge. He filled it with
sour wine, put it on a reed,
and held it up for Jesus to drink.
And, behold, the
veil of the temple was rent in
twain from the top to the bottom;
and the earth did
quake,
and the rocks rent;
At that moment the
veil of the temple was
torn in two from top to bottom. The earth
quaked and the rocks were split.
And the graves were opened;
and many bodies of the saints which
slept arose,
The tombs broke open,
and the bodies of many saints who had fallen
asleep were raised.
And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
After Jesus’ resurrection, when they had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people.
Now when the
centurion,
and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the
earthquake,
and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
When the
centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the
earthquake and all that had happened, they were
terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”
And many women were there beholding
afar off, which followed Jesus from
Galilee, ministering unto him:
And many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from
Galilee to minister to Him.
Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
He went to
Pilate,
and begged the body of Jesus. Then
Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
He went to
Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus,
and Pilate ordered that it be given to him.
And when Joseph had taken the body, he
wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
So Joseph took the body,
wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had
hewn out in the rock:
and he rolled a great stone to the door of the
sepulchre,
and departed.
and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut into the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance to the tomb and went away.
And there was Mary Magdalene,
and the other Mary, sitting over against the
sepulchre.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests
and Pharisees came together unto
Pilate,
The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests
and Pharisees assembled before
Pilate.
Command therefore that the
sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night,
and steal him away,
and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come
and steal Him away
and tell the people He has risen from the dead.
And this last
deception would be worse than the first.”
So they went,
and made the
sepulchre sure, sealing the stone,
and setting a watch.
So they went and secured the tomb by sealing the stone and posting the guard.
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to
dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene
and the other Mary to see the
sepulchre.
After the Sabbath, at
dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene
and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
And, behold, there was a great
earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven,
and came
and rolled back the stone from the door,
and sat upon it.
Suddenly there was a great
earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone,
and sat on it.
His appearance was like
lightning,
and his clothes were white as snow.
And for fear of him the keepers did
shake,
and became as dead men.
The guards
trembled in fear of him
and became like dead men.
And the angel answered
and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was
crucified.
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was
crucified.
And go quickly,
and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;
and, behold, he goeth before you into
Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
Then go quickly
and tell His disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead
and is going
ahead of you into
Galilee. There you will see Him.’ See, I have told you.”
And they departed quickly from the
sepulchre with fear
and great joy;
and did run to bring his disciples word.
So they
hurried away from the tomb in fear
and great joy,
and ran to tell His disciples.
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All
hail.
And they came
and held him by the feet,
and worshipped him.
Suddenly Jesus met them
and said, “Greetings!” They came to Him,
grasped His feet,
and worshiped Him.
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into
Galilee,
and there shall they see me.
“Do not be afraid,” said Jesus. “Go
and tell My brothers to go to
Galilee. There they will see Me.”
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
And after the chief priests had met with the elders and formed a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night,
and stole him away while we
slept.
and instructed them: “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night
and stole Him away while we were
asleep.’
And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will
persuade him,
and secure you.
If this report reaches the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
So the guards took the money
and did as they were
instructed.
And this account has been circulated among the Jews to this very day.
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
Go ye therefore,
and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost:
Therefore go
and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit,
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you
alway, even unto the end of the world.
Amen.
and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of
repentance for the
forgiveness of sins.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea,
and they of Jerusalem,
and were all
baptized of him in the river of Jordan,
confessing their sins.
And John was clothed with
camel’s hair,
and with a
girdle of a skin about his loins;
and he did eat locusts
and wild honey;
John was clothed in
camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his
waist. His food was locusts
and wild honey.
And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the
latchet of whose
shoes I am not worthy to
stoop down
and unloose.
And he began to
proclaim: “After me will come One more powerful than I, the straps of whose
sandals I am not worthy to
stoop down
and untie.
And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened,
and the Spirit like a
dove descending upon him:
As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens breaking open
and the Spirit descending on Him like a
dove.
And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
At once the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness,
And he was there in the wilderness forty days,
tempted of
Satan;
and was with the wild beasts;
and the angels ministered unto him.
and He was there for forty days, being
tempted by
Satan. He was with the wild animals,
and the angels ministered to Him.
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into
Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
After the arrest of John, Jesus went into
Galilee and proclaimed the gospel of God.
And saying, The time is fulfilled,
and the kingdom of God is at hand:
repent ye,
and believe the gospel.
“The time is fulfilled,” He said, “
and the kingdom of God is near.
Repent and believe in the gospel!”
Now as he walked by the sea of
Galilee, he saw Simon
and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of
Galilee, He saw Simon
and his brother
Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were
fishermen.
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
And at once they left their nets and followed Him.
And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee,
and John his brother, who also were in the ship
mending their nets.
Going on a little farther, He saw James son of Zebedee
and his brother John. They were in a boat,
mending their nets.
And straightway he called them:
and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the
hired servants,
and went after him.
Immediately Jesus called them,
and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the
hired men
and followed Him.
Then Jesus
and His companions went to
Capernaum,
and right away Jesus entered the
synagogue on the Sabbath
and began to teach.
And they were
astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority,
and not as the
scribes.
The people were
astonished at His teaching, because He taught as one who had authority,
and not as the
scribes.
And there was in their
synagogue a man with an unclean spirit;
and he
cried out,
And Jesus
rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace,
and come out of him.
But Jesus
rebuked the spirit. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!”
And when the unclean spirit had
torn him,
and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions
and came out with a loud
shriek.
And they were all
amazed,
insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits,
and they do obey him.
All the people were
amazed and began to ask one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits,
and they obey Him!”
And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about
Galilee.
And the news about Jesus spread quickly through the whole region of
Galilee.
And forthwith, when they were come out of the
synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon
and Andrew, with James
and John.
As soon as Jesus
and His companions had left the
synagogue, they went with James
and John to the home of Simon
and Andrew.
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever,
and anon they tell him of her.
Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever,
and they
promptly told Jesus about her.
And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them.
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
That evening, after
sunset, people brought to Jesus all who were sick
and demon-possessed,
And all the city was gathered together at the door.
and the whole town gathered at the door.
And he
healed many that were sick of
divers diseases,
and cast out many devils;
and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
And He
healed many who were ill with various diseases
and drove out many demons. But He would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up
and slipped out to a solitary place to pray.
And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
Simon and his companions went to look for Him,
