And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the
Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and follow it.
And thou shalt command the priests that
bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the
brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the waters, stand in the Jordan.’”
And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that
bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an
heap.
When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—touch down in the waters of the Jordan, its flowing waters will be cut off and will stand up in a
heap.”
And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of the covenant
ahead of them.
Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of Jordan.
“Command the priests who carry the ark of the Testimony to come up from the Jordan.”
And seven priests shall
bear before the ark seven
trumpets of rams horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the
trumpets.
Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns.
And Joshua the son of
Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests
bear seven
trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD.
So Joshua son of
Nun summoned the priests and said, “Take up the ark of the covenant and have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark of the LORD.”
And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests
bearing the seven
trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD, and
blew with the
trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
After Joshua had spoken to the people, seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns before the LORD advanced and
blew the horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
And seven priests
bearing seven
trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and
blew with the
trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the
trumpets.
And the seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns kept marching
ahead of the ark of the LORD and blowing the horns. The armed troops went in front of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the horns kept sounding.
Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of
Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
Some came from Ephraim, with their roots in Amalek; Benjamin came with your people after you. The commanders came down from Machir, the
bearers of the marshal’s staff from
Zebulun.
Then he called
hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and
slay me, that men say not of me, A woman
slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
He quickly called his
armor-
bearer, saying, “Draw your sword and kill me, lest they say of me, ‘A woman killed him.’” So
Abimelech’s
armor-
bearer ran his sword through him, and he died.
And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was
grieved for the misery of Israel.
So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD, and He could no longer bear the misery of Israel.
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, “It is true that you are barren and have no children; but you will conceive and give birth to a son.
For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and
bear a son; and no
razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a
Nazarite unto God from the
womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
For behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. And no
razor shall come over his head, because the boy will be a
Nazirite to God from the
womb, and he will begin the
deliverance of Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”
But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and
bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a
Nazarite to God from the
womb to the day of his death.
But he said to me, ‘Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. Now, therefore, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a
Nazirite to God from the
womb until the day of his death.’”
Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
Return home, my daughters. Go on, for I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was hope for me to have a husband
tonight and to
bear sons,
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his
anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose
ass have I taken? or whom have I
defrauded? whom have I
oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any
bribe to blind mine eyes
therewith? and I will restore it you.
Here I am.
Bear witness against me before the LORD and before His
anointed: Whose ox or
donkey have I taken? Whom have I
cheated or
oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a
bribe and closed my eyes? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.”
Now it came to pass upon a day, that
Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.
One day
Jonathan son of Saul said to the young man
bearing his
armor, “Come, let us cross over to the
Philistine outpost on the other side.” But
Jonathan did not tell his father.
And
Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these
uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
Jonathan said to the young man
bearing his
armor, “Come, let us cross over to the outpost of these
uncircumcised men. Perhaps the LORD will work on our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.”
And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.
His
armor-
bearer replied, “Do all that is in your heart. Go
ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”
And the men of the garrison answered
Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will
shew you a thing. And
Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.
So the men of the outpost called out to
Jonathan and his
armor-
bearer, “Come on up, and we will teach you a
lesson!” “Follow me,”
Jonathan told his
armor-
bearer, “for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”
And
Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before
Jonathan; and his armourbearer
slew after him.
So
Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his
armor-
bearer behind him. And the Philistines fell before
Jonathan, and his
armor-
bearer followed and finished them off.
And that first slaughter, which
Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might
plow.
In that first
assault,
Jonathan and his
armor-
bearer struck down about twenty men over half an acre of land.
Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold,
Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.
Saul said to the troops who were with him, “Call the roll and see who has left us.” And when they had called the roll, they saw that
Jonathan and his
armor-
bearer were not there.
And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.
When David came to Saul and entered his service, Saul
admired him greatly, and David became his
armor-
bearer.
And the staff of his
spear was like a
weaver’s beam; and his
spear’s head
weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one
bearing a shield went before him.
The shaft of his
spear was like a
weaver’s beam, and its iron point
weighed six hundred shekels. In addition, his shield
bearer went before him.
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
David replied, “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep, and whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,
And I went out after him, and
smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his
beard, and
smote him, and
slew him.
I went after it, struck it down, and delivered the lamb from its mouth. If it reared up against me, I would
grab it by its fur, strike it down, and kill it.
Your servant has killed lions and
bears; this
uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has
defied the armies of the living God.”
David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the
paw of the lion, and out of the
paw of the
bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this
Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
David added, “The LORD, who delivered me from the claws of the lion and the
bear, will deliver me from the hand of this
Philistine.” “Go,” said Saul, “and may the LORD be with you.”
And the
Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
Now the
Philistine came closer and closer to David, with his shield-
bearer before him.
And he changed his behaviour before them, and
feigned himself
mad in their hands, and
scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his
spittle fall down upon his
beard.
Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-
bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and run me through and
torture me!” But his
armor-
bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
When his
armor-
bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died with him.
So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
So Saul, his three sons, his
armor-
bearer, and all his men died together that same day.
When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good
tidings, I took hold of him, and
slew him in
Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his
tidings:
when someone told me, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was a
bearer of good news, I seized him and put him to death at
Ziklag. That was his reward for his news!
Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and
shaved off the one half of their
beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
So Hanun took David’s servants,
shaved off half of each man’s
beard, cut off their garments at the hips, and sent them away.
When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly
ashamed: and the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your
beards be grown, and then return.
When this was reported to David, he sent messengers to meet the men, since they had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your
beards have grown back, and then return.”
And lo
Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him,
bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and
Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and
Abiathar offered sacrifices until the people had passed out of the city.
For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be
chafed in their minds, as a
bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not
lodge with the people.
He continued, “You know your father and his men. They are mighty men, and as fierce as a wild
bear robbed of her cubs. Moreover, your father is a man of war who will not
spend the night with the troops.
Then
Ahimaaz son of
Zadok said, “Please let me run and tell the king the good news that the LORD has
avenged him of his enemies.”
And
Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not
bear tidings this day, but thou shalt
bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt
bear no
tidings, because the king’s son is dead.
But
Joab replied, “You are not the man to take good news
today. You may do it another day, but you must not do so
today, because the king’s son is dead.”
And the
watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is
tidings in his mouth. And he came
apace, and drew near.
So he called out and told the king. “If he is alone,” the king replied, “he
bears good news.” As the first
runner drew near,
And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor
trimmed his
beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
Then Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or
trimmed his
mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king had left until the day he returned safely.
And Ishbi-benob, which was of the sons of the
giant, the weight of whose
spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being
girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
Then Ishbi-benob, a
descendant of Rapha, whose bronze
spear weighed three hundred shekels and who was
bearing a new sword, resolved to kill David.
Zelek the
Ammonite, Nahari the Beerothite, armourbearer to
Joab the son of Zeruiah,
And when I rose in the morning to give my child
suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did
bear.
The next morning, when I got up to
nurse my son, I discovered he was dead. But when I examined him, I realized that he was not the son I had borne.”
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels
bearing spices, gold in great abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke to him all that was on her mind.
For the king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of
Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
For the king had the ships of
Tarshish at sea with
Hiram’s fleet, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive
bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
And it was so, when the king went into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would
bear the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
And set two men, sons of
Belial, before him, to
bear witness against him, saying, Thou
didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.
But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them
testify, ‘You have
cursed both God and the king!’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”
And he turned back, and looked on them, and
cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she
bears out of the wood, and
tare forty and two children of them.
Then he turned around, looked at them, and called down a
curse on them in the name of the LORD. Suddenly two female
bears came out of the woods and
mauled forty-two of the boys.
And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
Now all the Moabites had heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. So all who could bear arms, young and old, were summoned and stationed at the border.
And
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to
Lachish, saying, I have
offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I
bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
So
Hezekiah king of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at
Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand from me.” And the king of Assyria exacted from
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root
downward, and
bear fruit upward.
And the
surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root below and
bear fruit above.
The sons of
Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of
Manasseh, of
valiant men, men able to
bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and
threescore, that went out to the war.
The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh had 44,760 warriors—
valiant men who carried the shield and sword, drew the bow, and were trained for battle.
Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-
bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and
torture me!” But his
armor-
bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
When his
armor-
bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died.
Zelek the
Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armourbearer of
Joab the son of Zeruiah,
The children of Judah that bare shield and
spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war.
From Judah: 6,800 armed troops bearing shields and spears.
Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and
shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.
So Hanun took David’s servants,
shaved their
beards, cut off their garments at the hips, and sent them away.
Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly
ashamed. And the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your
beards be grown, and then return.
When someone came and told David about his men, he sent messengers to meet them, since the men had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your
beards have grown back, and then return.”
And Solomon told out
threescore and ten thousand men to
bear burdens, and
fourscore thousand to
hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
So he conscripted 70,000
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
And he set
threescore and ten thousand of them to be
bearers of burdens, and
fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
Solomon made 70,000 of them
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon, she came to test him with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels
bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke with him about all that was on her mind.
For the king’s ships went to
Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of
Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
For the king had the ships of
Tarshish that went with
Hiram’s servants, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive
bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and
fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would go with him,
bearing the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
And
Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and
fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
Asa had an army of 300,000 men from Judah
bearing large shields and spears, and 280,000 men from Benjamin
bearing small shields and drawing the bow. All these were mighty men of
valor.
Moreover
Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle
spear and shield.
Then
Amaziah gathered the people of Judah and assigned them according to their families to commanders of thousands and of hundreds. And he numbered those twenty years of age or older throughout Judah and Benjamin and found 300,000 chosen men able to serve in the army,
bearing the
spear and shield.
Also they were over the
bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were
scribes, and officers, and
porters.
were over the laborers and
supervised all who did the work, task by task. Some of the Levites were
secretaries, officers, and gatekeepers.
And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my
mantle, and
plucked off the hair of my head and of my
beard, and sat down
astonied.
And Judah said, The strength of the
bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much
rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
Meanwhile, the people of Judah said: “The strength of the laborer fails, and there is so much
rubble that we will never be able to rebuild the wall.”
For he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.
He sent letters to all the provinces of the kingdom, to each province in its own
script and to each people in their own language,
proclaiming that every man should be master of his own household.
For how can I
endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I
endure to see the destruction of my kindred?
For how could I
bear to see the
disaster that would
befall my people? How could I
bear to see the destruction of my kindred?”
He is the Maker of the

Orion, of the
Pleiades and the constellations of the south.
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my
leanness rising up in me
beareth witness to my face.
You have bound me, and it has become a witness; my
frailty rises up and testifies against me.
Though he
spare it, and
forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:
though he cannot bear to let it go and keeps it in his mouth,
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken,
mock on.
Bear with me while I speak; then, after I have spoken, you may go on
mocking.
Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her
calf.
Their bulls breed without fail; their cows
bear calves and do not miscarry.
He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
They prey on the barren and childless, and show no kindness to the widow.
Suffer me a little, and I will
shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.
“Bear with me a little longer, and I will show you that there is more to be said on God’s behalf.
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide
Arcturus with his sons?
Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do

“Do you know when mountain goats give birth? Have you watched the

For mine
iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
To the wicked, however, God says, “What right have you to
recite My statutes and to
bear My covenant on your lips?
Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.
Selah.
Blessed be the Lord, who daily
bears our burden, the God of our salvation.
Selah The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I
bear up the pillars of it.
Selah.
When the earth and all its dwellers
quake, it is I who
bear up its pillars.
Selah Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do
bear in my
bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, which I bear in my heart from so many people—
They shall
bear thee up in their hands, lest thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
In old age they will still bear fruit; healthy and green they will remain,
Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;
Remember me, O LORD, in Your favor to Your people; visit me with Your salvation,
He that goeth forth and weepeth,
bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with
rejoicing, bringing his
sheaves with him.
He who goes out
weeping,
bearing a
trail of seed, will surely return with shouts of joy, carrying
sheaves of grain.
It is like the precious
ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the
beard, even Aaron’s
beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
It is like fine oil on the head, running down on the
beard, running down Aaron’s
beard over the
collar of his robes.
That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no
complaining in our streets.
Our oxen will
bear great loads. There will be no breach in the walls, no going into captivity, and no cry of
lament in our streets.
If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for
thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt
bear it.
If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage; but if you
scoff, you alone will
bear the consequences.
The hand of the

slothful shall be under tribute.
Let a

It is better to meet a

The spirit of a man will

The spirit of a man can

A man that
beareth false witness against his neighbour is a

Like a club or sword or sharp

bears false witness against his
