As a
roaring lion, and a ranging
bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.
Like a
roaring lion or a charging
bear is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.
When the righteous are in authority, the people
rejoice: but when the wicked
beareth rule, the people
mourn.
Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he
curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
Do not
slander a servant to his master, or he will
curse you, and you will
bear the guilt.
For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up:
Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even
shorn, which came up from the washing;
whereof every one
bear twins, and none is barren among them.
Your teeth are like a flock of newly
shorn sheep coming up from the washing; each has its
twin, and not one of them is lost.
Thy teeth are as a flock of sheep which go up from the washing,
whereof every one
beareth twins, and there is not one barren among them.
Your teeth are like a flock of sheep coming up from the washing; each has its
twin, and not one of them is lost.
Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am
weary to
bear them.
I
hate your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They have become a burden to Me; I am
weary of
bearing them.
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and
bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him
Immanuel.
In the same day shall the Lord
shave with a
razor that is
hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also
consume the
beard.
On that day the Lord will use a
razor hired from beyond the Euphrates—the king of Assyria—to
shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your
beard as well.
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of
Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Then a shoot will spring up from the
stump of
Jesse, and a Branch from his roots will
bear fruit.
And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The cow will
graze with the
bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to
weep: Moab shall
howl over
Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be
baldness, and every
beard cut off.
Dibon goes up to its temple to
weep at its high places. Moab wails over
Nebo, as well as over Medeba. Every head is
shaved, every
beard is cut off.
Therefore hath the
curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are
desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
Therefore a
curse has consumed the earth, and its inhabitants must
bear the guilt; the earth’s dwellers have been burned, and only a few
survive.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root
downward, and
bear fruit upward:
And the
surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root below and
bear fruit above.
And even to your old age I am he; and even to
hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will
bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Even to your old age, I will be the same, and I will
bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you, and I will carry you; I will
sustain you and deliver you.
They
bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove:
yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.
They lift it to their shoulder and carry it along; they set it in its place, and there it stands, not
budging from that spot. They cry out to it, but it does not answer; it saves no one from his troubles.
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that
plucked off the hair: I
hid not my face from shame and
spitting.
I offered My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who
tore out My
beard. I did not hide My face from
scorn and
spittle.
Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD.
Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing; come out from it,
purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.
He shall see of the
travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant
justify many; for he shall
bear their
iniquities.
After the
anguish of His soul, He will see the light of life and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant will
justify many, and He will
bear their
iniquities.
Sing, O barren, thou that
didst not
bear; break forth into singing, and cry
aloud, thou that
didst not
travail with child: for more are the children of the
desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
“
Shout for joy, O barren woman, who
bears no children; break forth in song and cry
aloud, you who have never
travailed; because more are the children of the
desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD.
We
roar all like
bears, and
mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.
We all
growl like
bears and
moan like doves. We hope for justice, but find none, for salvation, but it is far from us.
The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the
dromedaries of
Midian and
Ephah; all they from
Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall
shew forth the praises of the LORD.
They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
They will not labor in vain or
bear children
doomed to
disaster; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD— they and their descendants with them.
For I have heard a voice as of a woman in
travail, and the
anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of
Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying,
Woe is me now! for my soul is
wearied because of murderers.
For I hear a cry like a woman in labor, a cry of
anguish like one
bearing her first child— the cry of the Daughter of
Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands to say, “
Woe is me, for my soul
faints before the murderers!”
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests
bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
The prophets
prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it so, but what will you do in the end?
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’?
Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.
Has this house, which
bears My Name, become a den of robbers in your sight?
Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD.
Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to
Shiloh.
therefore what I did to
Shiloh I will now do to the house that
bears My Name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers.
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to
pollute it.
For the people of Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that
bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
Woe is me for my
hurt! my wound is
grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must
bear it.
Woe to me because of my brokenness; my wound is
grievous! But I said, “This is truly my sickness, and I must
bear it.”
They have sown wheat, but shall
reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be
ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
They have sown wheat but harvested thorns. They have exhausted themselves to no
avail.
Bear the shame of your harvest because of the fierce anger of the LORD.”
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and
rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Your words were found, and I
ate them. Your words became my joy and my heart’s delight. For I
bear Your name, O LORD God of Hosts.
Thus saith the LORD; Take
heed to
yourselves, and
bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
This is what the LORD says: Take
heed for
yourselves; do not carry a load or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.
But if ye will not
hearken unto me to
hallow the sabbath day, and not to
bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I
kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall
devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be
quenched.
But if you do not
listen to Me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying a load while entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will
kindle an
unquenchable fire in its gates to
consume the citadels of Jerusalem.’”
For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.
For behold, I am beginning to bring
disaster on the city that
bears My Name, so how could you possibly go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the LORD of Hosts.’
Take ye wives, and
beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may
bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.
Take wives and have sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Multiply there; do not decrease.
But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to
defile it.
They have placed their abominations in the house that
bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that
bears My Name.
That there came certain from
Shechem, from
Shiloh, and from Samaria, even
fourscore men, having their
beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.
eighty men who had
shaved off their
beards,
torn their garments, and cut themselves came from
Shechem,
Shiloh, and Samaria, carrying grain offerings and
frankincense for the house of the LORD.
So that the LORD could no longer
bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a
desolation, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.
He is a
bear lying in wait, a lion hiding in
ambush.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is still young.
Our fathers
sinned and are no more, but we
bear their punishment.
Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity.
Then lie down on your left side and place the iniquity of the house of Israel upon
yourself. You are to
bear their iniquity for the number of days you lie on your side.
For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and
ninety days: so shalt thou
bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
For I have assigned to you 390 days, according to the number of years of their iniquity. So you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
When you have completed these days, lie down again, but on your right side, and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah. I have assigned to you 40 days, a day for each year.
And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a
barber’s
razor, and cause it to pass upon thine head and upon thy
beard: then take thee balances to
weigh, and divide the hair.
“As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword, use it as a
barber’s
razor, and
shave your head and
beard. Then take a set of scales and divide the hair.
In their sight shalt thou
bear it upon thy shoulders, and carry it forth in the
twilight: thou shalt cover thy face, that thou see not the ground: for I have set thee for a sign unto the house of Israel.
And as they watch, lift your bags to your shoulder and take them out at
dusk; cover your face so that you cannot see the land. For I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.”
And the prince that is among them shall
bear upon his shoulder in the
twilight, and shall go forth: they shall
dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes.
And at
dusk the prince among them will lift his bags to his shoulder and go out. They will
dig through the wall to bring him out. He will cover his face so he cannot see the land.
And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;
They will bear their punishment—the punishment of the inquirer will be the same as that of the prophet—
Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters,
bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more
abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou:
yea, be thou confounded also, and
bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
So now you must
bear your disgrace, since you have brought
justification for your sisters. For they appear more righteous than you, because your sins were more
vile than theirs. So you too must
bear your shame and disgrace, since you have made your sisters appear righteous.
That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
So you will
bear your disgrace and be
ashamed of all you did to comfort them.
Thou hast borne thy
lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD.
You will
bear the consequences of your
lewdness and your abominations, declares the LORD.
It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
It had been planted in good soil by abundant waters in order to yield branches and bear fruit and become a splendid vine.’
In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and
bear fruit, and be a goodly
cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
I will plant it on the mountain heights of Israel so that it will
bear branches; it will yield fruit and become a
majestic cedar. Birds of every kind will nest under it, taking shelter in the shade of its branches.
Yet say ye, Why?
doth not the son
bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore
bear thou also thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you have forgotten Me and have cast Me behind your back, you must
bear the consequences of your
indecency and
prostitution.’”
And they shall
recompense your
lewdness upon you, and ye shall
bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
They will repay you for your
indecency, and you will
bear the consequences of your sins of
idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.’”
There is
Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down
uncircumcised into the
nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
Elam is there with all her multitudes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword— those who went down
uncircumcised to the earth below, who once spread their terror in the land of the living. They
bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit.
They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that be slain.
Among the slain they prepare a resting place for
Elam with all her hordes, with her graves all around her. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their terror was once spread in the land of the living. They
bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.
There be the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they are
ashamed of their might; and they lie
uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword, and
bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.
All the leaders of the north and all the Sidonians are there; they went down in disgrace with the slain,
despite the terror of their might. They lie
uncircumcised with those slain by the sword and
bear their shame with those who descend to the Pit.
And I will raise up for them a plant of
renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither
bear the shame of the heathen any more.
And I will raise up for them a garden of
renown, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or
bear the
scorn of the nations.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I have
sworn with an
uplifted hand that surely the nations around you will
endure reproach of their own.
But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come.
But you, O mountains of Israel, will produce branches and bear fruit for My people Israel, for they will soon come home.
Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord GOD.
I will no longer allow the taunts of the nations to be heard against you, and you will no longer
endure the reproach of the peoples or cause your nation to
stumble, declares the Lord GOD.”
And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.
I will also make the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field
plentiful, so that you will no longer
bear reproach among the nations on account of famine.
And the Levites that are gone away far from me, when Israel went
astray, which went
astray away from me after their idols; they shall even
bear their iniquity.
Surely the Levites who
wandered away from Me when Israel went
astray, and who
wandered away from Me after their idols, will
bear the consequences of their iniquity.
Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.
Because they ministered before their idols and became a
stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I
swore with an
uplifted hand concerning them that they would
bear the consequences of their iniquity, declares the Lord GOD.
And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
They must not approach Me to serve Me as priests or come near any of My holy things or the most holy things. They will bear the shame of the abominations they have committed.
Then said he unto me, This is the place where the priests shall
boil the
trespass offering and the sin offering, where they shall
bake the meat offering; that they
bear them not out into the utter court, to
sanctify the people.
and said to me, “This is the place where the priests shall
boil the guilt offering and the sin offering, and where they shall
bake the grain offering, so that they do not bring them into the outer court and
transmit holiness to the people.”
And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not
fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of all kinds will grow. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will
bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will be used for food and their leaves for
healing.”
And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
But after you, there will arise another kingdom, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule the whole earth.
And behold another beast, a second, like to a
bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise,
devour much flesh.
Suddenly another beast appeared, which looked like a
bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. So it was told, ‘Get up and
gorge yourself on flesh!’
O my God,
incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great
mercies.
Incline Your ear, O my God, and hear; open Your eyes and see the
desolation of the city that
bears Your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before You because of our righteous acts, but because of Your great
compassion.
O Lord, hear; O Lord,
forgive; O Lord,
hearken and do;
defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.
O Lord,
listen! O Lord,
forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For Your sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people
bear Your name.”
Ephraim is
smitten, their root is dried up, they shall
bear no fruit:
yea, though they bring forth, yet will I
slay even the beloved fruit of their
womb.
Ephraim is struck down; their root is
withered; they cannot
bear fruit. Even if they
bear children, I will
slay the darlings of their wombs.
Their heart is divided; now shall they be found
faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall
spoil their images.
Their hearts are
devious; now they must
bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars and
demolish their sacred pillars.
I will meet them as a
bear that is
bereaved of her whelps, and will
rend the
caul of their heart, and there will I
devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall
tear them.
Like a
bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will
tear open their chests. There I will
devour them like a lion, like a wild beast would
tear them apart.
Samaria shall become
desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be
dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be
ripped up.
Samaria will
bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be
dashed to pieces, and their
pregnant women
ripped open.
Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
Do not be afraid, O beasts of the field, for the open pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and vine yield their best.
As if a man did
flee from a lion, and a
bear met him; or went into the house, and
leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent
bit him.
It will be like a man who flees from a lion, only to
encounter a
bear, or who enters his house and rests his hand against the wall, only to be
bitten by a
snake.
Then
Amaziah the priest of
Bethel sent to
Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,
Amos hath
conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to
bear all his words.
Then
Amaziah the priest of
Bethel sent word to
Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “
Amos has
conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot
bear all his words,
That they may possess the
remnant of
Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.
that they may possess the
remnant of
Edom and all the nations that
bear My name,” declares the LORD, who will do this.
Hear, all ye people;
hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.
Hear, O peoples, all of you;
listen, O earth, and
everyone in it! May the Lord GOD
bear witness against you, the Lord from His holy temple.
For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of
Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a
desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an
hissing: therefore ye shall
bear the reproach of my people.
You have kept the statutes of Omri and all the practices of
Ahab’s house; you have followed their counsel. Therefore I will make you a
desolation, and your inhabitants an object of contempt; you will
bear the
scorn of the nations.”
I will
bear the
indignation of the LORD, because I have
sinned against him, until he
plead my cause, and
execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
Because I have
sinned against Him, I must
endure the
rage of the LORD, until He argues my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me into the light; I will see His righteousness.
Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that
bear silver are cut off.
Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who
weigh out silver will be cut off.
If one
bear holy flesh in the
skirt of his garment, and with his
skirt do touch bread, or
pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread,
stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does that
item become holy?’” “No,” replied the priests.
Then said I to the angel that talked with me,
Whither do these
bear the
ephah?
“Where are they taking the
basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking with me.
Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Yes, He will build the temple of the LORD; He will be clothed in
splendor and will sit on His throne and rule. And He will be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two.’
I indeed
baptize you with water unto
repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose
shoes I am not worthy to
bear: he shall
baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
I
baptize you with water for
repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose
sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast
thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall
bear thee up, lest at any time thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
“If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw
Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is
hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more
tolerable for the land of
Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Truly I tell you, it will be more

Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
But I tell you, it will be more
bearable for Tyre and
Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
