Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were
before the house.
Slaughter the old men, the young men and maidens, the women and children; but do not go near
anyone who has the mark. Now begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were
before the temple.
Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.
Then some of the elders of Israel came and sat down before me.
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
“Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked
stumbling blocks
before their faces. Should I
consult with them in any way?
Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Therefore speak to them and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When any
Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked
stumbling block
before his face, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him according to his great
idolatry,
For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity
before his face, and cometh to a prophet to
enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
For when any
Israelite or any foreigner dwelling in Israel separates himself from Me, sets up idols in his heart, and puts a wicked
stumbling block
before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me, I the LORD will answer him Myself.
And tookest thy
broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense
before them.
You took your
embroidered garments to cover them, and you set My oil and incense
before them.
My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey,
wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it
before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD.
And you set
before them as a pleasing
aroma the food I had given you—the fine flour, oil, and honey that I had fed you. That is what happened, declares the Lord GOD.
Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast
hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
therefore I will surely gather all the lovers with whom you found pleasure, all those you loved and all those you
hated. I will gather them against you from all around and
expose you
before them, and they will see you completely naked.
And they were
haughty, and committed
abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
Thus they were
haughty and committed abominations
before Me. Therefore I removed them, as you have seen.
Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which
despise thee round about.
before your wickedness was uncovered? Even so, you are now
scorned by the daughters of
Edom and all those around her, and by the daughters of the Philistines—all those around you who
despise you.
And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to
enquire of the LORD, and sat
before me.
In the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, some of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and they sat down before me.
Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and
defile not
yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
And I said to them: ‘Each of you must throw away the abominations
before his eyes, and you must not
defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.’
But they rebelled against me, and would not
hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they
forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my
fury upon them to
accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
But they rebelled against Me and refused to
listen. None of them cast away the abominations
before their eyes, and they did not
forsake the idols of Egypt. So I resolved to pour out My wrath upon them and
vent My anger against them in the land of Egypt.
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
But I acted for the sake of My name, that it should not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were living, in whose sight I had revealed Myself to Israel by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.
But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.
But I acted for the sake of My name, so that it would not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.
I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be
sanctified in you
before the heathen.
When I bring you from the peoples and gather you from the lands to which you have been scattered, I will accept you as a pleasing
aroma. And I will show My
holiness through you in the sight of the nations.
Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness
sigh before their eyes.
But you, son of man,
groan!
Groan before their eyes with a broken heart and bitter grief.
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the
hedge, and stand in the
gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
I searched for a man among them to repair the wall and stand in the
gap before Me on behalf of the land, so that I should not destroy it. But I found no one.
And they shall come against thee with
chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee
buckler and shield and
helmet round about: and I will set judgment
before them, and they shall judge thee according to their judgments.
They will come against you with a host of peoples, with weapons,
chariots, and wagons. They will
array themselves against you on every side with
buckler and shield and
helmet. I will
delegate judgment to them, and they will
punish you according to their own standards.
And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared
before it,
whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil.
You sat on a
couch of
luxury with a table spread
before it, on which you had set My incense and My oil,
Wilt thou yet say
before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.
Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’ in the presence of those who
slay you? You will be only a man, not a god, in the hands of those who wound you.
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Your heart grew proud of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your
splendor; so I cast you to the earth; I made you a
spectacle before kings.
And I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall
groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, who will
groan before him like a
mortally wounded man.
Yea, I will make many people
amazed at thee, and their kings shall be
horribly afraid for thee, when I shall
brandish my sword
before them; and they shall
tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall.
I will cause many peoples to be
appalled over you, and their kings will
shudder in
horror because of you when I
brandish My sword
before them. On the day of your
downfall each of them will
tremble every moment for his life.’
Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening,
afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more
dumb.
Now the evening
before the
fugitive arrived, the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He opened my mouth
before the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was opened and I was no longer
mute.
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit
before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they
shew much love, but their heart goeth after their
covetousness.
So My people come to you as usual, sit
before you, and hear your words; but they do not put them into practice. Although they express love with their mouths, their hearts pursue
dishonest gain.
And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will fill you with people and animals, and they will multiply and be fruitful. I will make you as inhabited as you once were, and I will make you
prosper more than
before. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they
defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was
before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.
“Son of man, when the people of Israel lived in their land, they
defiled it by their own ways and deeds. Their
behavior before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman’s impurity.
And I will
sanctify my great name, which was
profaned among the heathen, which ye have
profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be
sanctified in you
before their eyes.
I will show the
holiness of My great name, which has been
profaned among the nations—the name you have
profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when I show My
holiness in you
before their eyes.
And the sticks
whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand
before their eyes.
When the sticks on which you write are in your hand and in full view of the people,
And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be
sanctified in thee, O
Gog,
before their eyes.
You will advance against My people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will happen in the latter days, O
Gog, that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy in you
before their eyes.
The space also
before the little chambers was one
cubit on this side, and the space was one
cubit on that side: and the little chambers were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
In front of each gate chamber was a wall one
cubit high, and the gate chambers were six cubits square.
And their windows, and their arches, and their palm trees, were after the measure of the gate that looketh toward the east; and they went up unto it by seven steps; and the arches thereof were before them.
Its windows,
portico, and palm trees had the same measurements as those of the gate facing east. Seven steps led up to it, with its
portico opposite them.
And there were seven steps to go up to it, and the arches thereof were before them: and it had palm trees, one on this side, and another on that side, upon the posts thereof.
Seven steps led up to it, and its
portico was opposite them; it had palm trees on its side pillars, one on each side.
And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of
Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.
and the chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of
Zadok, the only Levites who may approach the LORD to minister
before Him.”
So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad,
foursquare; and the altar that was
before the house.
Next he measured the court. It was square, a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.
So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.
Then he measured the room adjacent to the inner sanctuary to be twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”
Now the building that was
before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick round about, and the length thereof
ninety cubits.
Now the building that faced the temple
courtyard on the west was seventy cubits wide, and the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, with a length of
ninety cubits.
The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD.
There was an altar of wood three cubits high and two cubits square. Its corners, base, and sides were of wood. And the man told me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”
Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.
Then the man led me out northward into the outer court, and he brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple
courtyard and the outer wall on the north side.
Before the length of an hundred cubits was the north door, and the breadth was fifty cubits.
The building with the door facing north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.
And
before the chambers was a walk of ten cubits breadth inward, a way of one
cubit; and their doors toward the north.
In front of the chambers was an inner walkway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits long. Their doors were on the north.
For the length of the chambers that were in the utter court was fifty cubits: and, lo, before the temple were an hundred cubits.
For the chambers on the outer court were fifty cubits long, while those facing the temple were a hundred cubits long.
And the way before them was like the appearance of the chambers which were toward the north, as long as they, and as broad as they: and all their goings out were both according to their fashions, and according to their doors.
with a
passageway in front of them, just like the chambers that were on the north. They had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions.
And according to the doors of the chambers that were toward the south was a door in the head of the way, even the way directly before the wall toward the east, as one entereth into them.
And corresponding to the doors of the chambers that were facing south, there was a door in front of the walkway that was parallel to the wall extending eastward.
Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are
before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the LORD shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the
trespass offering; for the place is holy.
Then the man said to me, “The north and south chambers facing the temple
courtyard are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the LORD will eat the most holy offerings. There they will place the most holy offerings—the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings—for the place is holy.
When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of
Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young
bullock for a sin offering.
You are to give a young bull from the
herd as a sin offering to the
Levitical priests who are of the family of
Zadok, who approach Me to minister
before Me, declares the Lord GOD.
And thou shalt offer them before the LORD, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for a burnt offering unto the LORD.
You must present them
before the LORD; the priests are to
sprinkle salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the LORD.
It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread
before the LORD; he shall enter by the way of the
porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same.
Only the prince himself may sit inside the
gateway to eat in the presence of the LORD. He must enter by way of the
portico of the
gateway and go out the same way.”
Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house: and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD: and I fell upon my face.
Then the man brought me to the front of the temple by way of the north gate. I looked and saw the glory of the LORD filling His temple, and I fell facedown.
Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall
slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand
before them to minister unto them.
Yet they shall be ministers in My sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and ministering there. They shall slaughter the burnt offerings and other sacrifices for the people and stand before them to minister to them.
Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up mine hand against them, saith the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.
Because they ministered
before their idols and became a
stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I
swore with an
uplifted hand concerning them that they would bear the consequences of their iniquity, declares the Lord GOD.
But the priests the Levites, the sons of
Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went
astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand
before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:
But the
Levitical priests, who are descended from
Zadok and who kept charge of My sanctuary when the Israelites went
astray from Me, are to approach Me to minister
before Me. They will stand
before Me to offer Me fat and blood, declares the Lord GOD.
They shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister unto me, and they shall keep my charge.
They alone shall enter My sanctuary and draw near to My table to minister before Me. They will keep My charge.
Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.
No priest may drink wine before he enters the inner court.
Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.
And they shall not marry a widow or a
divorced woman, but must marry a virgin of the descendants of the house of Israel, or a widow of a priest.
The holy portion of the land shall be for the priests the ministers of the sanctuary, which shall come near to minister unto the LORD: and it shall be a place for their houses, and an holy place for the sanctuary.
It will be a holy portion of the land to be used by the priests who minister in the sanctuary, who draw near to minister before the LORD. It will be a place for their houses, as well as a holy area for the sanctuary.
And a portion shall be for the prince on the one side and on the other side of the
oblation of the holy portion, and of the possession of the city,
before the
oblation of the holy portion, and
before the possession of the city, from the west side westward, and from the east side eastward: and the length shall be over against one of the portions, from the west border unto the east border.
Now the prince will have the area bordering each side of the area formed by the holy district and the property of the city, extending westward from the western side and eastward from the eastern side, running
lengthwise from the western boundary to the eastern boundary and parallel to one of the
tribal portions.
Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the sabbaths and in the new moons.
On the Sabbaths and New Moons the people of the land are also to bow in worship
before the LORD at the entrance to that
gateway.
But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it.
When the people of the land come
before the LORD at the appointed feasts,
whoever enters by the north gate to worship must go out by the south gate, and
whoever enters by the south gate must go out by the north gate. No one is to return through the gate by which he entered, but each must go out by the opposite gate.
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he
drank: so
nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand
before the king.
The king assigned them daily provisions of the royal food and wine. They were to be trained for three years, after which they were to enter the king’s service.
And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me
endanger my head to the king.
but he said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking
thinner than those of the other young men your age? You would
endanger my head
before the king!”
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Then compare our appearances with those of the young men who are eating the royal food, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”
Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in
before Nebuchadnezzar.
Now at the end of the time specified by the king, the chief official presented them to
Nebuchadnezzar.
And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah: therefore stood they
before the king.
And the king spoke with them, and among all the young men he found no one equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah. So they entered the king’s service.
Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to
shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood
before the king.
So the king gave orders to
summon the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers to explain his dreams. When they came and stood
before the king,
But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak
before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can
shew me the interpretation thereof.
If you do not tell me the dream, there is only one decree for you. You have
conspired to speak
before me false and
fraudulent words, hoping the situation will change. Therefore tell me the dream, and I will know that you can give me its interpretation.”
The Chaldeans answered
before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can
shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any
magician, or
astrologer, or
Chaldean.
The astrologers answered the king, “No one on earth can do what the king requests! No king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any
magician,
enchanter, or
astrologer.
And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can
shew it
before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
What the king requests is so difficult that no one can tell it to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.”
Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in
before the king, and I will
shew unto the king the interpretation.
Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, “Do not
execute the wise men of Babylon! Bring me
before the king, and I will give him the interpretation.”
Then Arioch brought in Daniel
before the king in
haste and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the
captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
Arioch
hastily brought Daniel
before the king and said to him, “I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who will tell the king the interpretation.”
Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
As you, O king, were watching, a great statue appeared. A great and
dazzling statue stood
before you, and its form was
awesome.
This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
This was the dream; now we will tell the king its interpretation.
Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the
dedication of the image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood
before the image that
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the rulers of the provinces assembled for the
dedication of the statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood
before it.
Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
So I issued a decree that all the wise men of Babylon be brought
before me to
interpret the dream for me.
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, and they could not
interpret it for me.
But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
But at last, into my presence came Daniel (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods). And I told him the dream:
Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and
drank wine
before the thousand.
Later, King
Belshazzar held a great feast for a thousand of his nobles, and he
drank wine with them.
Then was Daniel brought in
before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of
Jewry?
So Daniel was brought before the king, who asked him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah?
And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in
before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not
shew the interpretation of the thing:
Now the wise men and enchanters were brought
before me to read this inscription and
interpret it for me, but they could not give its interpretation.
Then Daniel answered and said
before the king, Let thy gifts be to
thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
In
response, Daniel said to the king, “You may keep your gifts for
yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the inscription for the king and
interpret it for him.
And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages,
trembled and feared
before him: whom he would he
slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
Because of the greatness that He bestowed on him, the people of every nation and language
trembled in fear
before him. He killed whom he wished and kept alive whom he wished; he
exalted whom he wished and humbled whom he wished.
But hast lifted up
thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house
before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have
drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not
glorified:
Instead, you have
exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you
drank wine from them with your nobles, wives, and concubines, you praised your gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you have failed to
glorify the God who holds in His hand your very breath and all your ways.
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he
kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave
thanks before his God, as he did
aforetime.
Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave
thanks to his God, just as he had done
before.
Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making
supplication before his God.
Then these men went as a group and found Daniel petitioning and
imploring his God.
Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
So they approached the king and asked about his royal decree: “Did you not sign a decree that for thirty days any man who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions?” The king replied, “According to the law of the Medes and Persians the order stands, and it cannot be
repealed.”
Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
Then they told the king, “Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, shows no regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed. He still makes his petition three times a day.”
Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting. No
entertainment was brought
before him, and sleep fled from him.
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions mouths, that they have not
hurt me:
forasmuch as
before him
innocency was found in me; and also
before thee, O king, have I done no
hurt.
My God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions. They have not
hurt me, for I was found innocent in His sight, and I have done no wrong against you, O king.”
And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the
mastery of them, and
brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
At the command of the king, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the den of lions—they and their children and wives. And
before they had reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and
crushed all their bones.
I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men
tremble and fear
before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and
stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
I
hereby decree that in every part of my kingdom, men are to
tremble in fear
before the God of Daniel: For He is the living God, and He endures
forever; His kingdom will never be destroyed, and His dominion will never end.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it
devoured and
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was
diverse from all the beasts that were
before it; and it had ten horns.
After this, as I watched in my vision in the night, suddenly a fourth beast appeared, and it was
terrifying—
dreadful and extremely strong—with large iron teeth. It
devoured and
crushed; then it
trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the beasts
before it, and it had ten horns.
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn,
before whom there were three of the first horns
plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
While I was
contemplating the horns, suddenly another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted
before it. This horn had eyes like those of a man and a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
A
fiery stream issued and came forth from
before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood
before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
A river of fire was flowing, coming out from His presence. Thousands upon thousands attended Him, and myriads upon myriads stood
before Him. The court was
convened, and the books were opened.
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
In my vision in the night I continued to watch, and I saw One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into His presence.
And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and
before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more
stout than his fellows.
I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and the other horn that came up,
before which three of them fell—the horn whose appearance was more imposing than the others, with eyes and with a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a ram with two horns standing beside the canal. The horns were long, but one was longer than the other, and the longer one grew up later.
I saw the ram
pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand
before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
I saw the ram charging toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against him, and there was no
deliverance from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.
