Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
As a result, many of them believed, along with quite a few prominent Greek women and men.
But some joined him and
believed, including
Dionysius the
Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others who were with them.
And Crispus, the chief ruler of the
synagogue,
believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the
Corinthians hearing
believed, and were
baptized.
Crispus, the
synagogue leader, and his whole household
believed in the Lord. And many of the
Corinthians who heard the message
believed and were
baptized.
And when he was disposed to pass into
Achaia, the brethren wrote,
exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had
believed through grace:
When Apollos resolved to cross over to
Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to
welcome him. On his arrival, he was a great help to those who by grace had
believed.
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” “No,” they answered, “we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Then said Paul, John
verily baptized with the baptism of
repentance, saying unto the people, that they should
believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Paul explained: “John’s baptism was a baptism of
repentance. He told the people to
believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”
But when
divers were
hardened, and
believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one
Tyrannus.
And many that
believed came, and
confessed, and shewed their deeds.
Many who had
believed now came forward,
confessing and disclosing their deeds.
And when they heard it, they
glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which
believe; and they are all
zealous of the law:
When they heard this, they
glorified God. Then they said to Paul, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have
believed, and all of them are
zealous for the law.
As touching the Gentiles which
believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from
strangled, and from
fornication.
As for the
Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they must
abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every
synagogue them that
believed on thee:
‘Lord,’ I answered, ‘they know very well that in one
synagogue after another I imprisoned and beat those who
believed in You.
But this I
confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers,
believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
I do
confess to you, however, that I worship the God of our fathers according to the Way, which they call a sect. I
believe everything that is laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets,
King
Agrippa,
believest thou the prophets? I know that thou
believest.
King
Agrippa, do you
believe the prophets? I know you do.”
Nevertheless the
centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
But contrary to Paul’s advice, the
centurion was persuaded by the
pilot and by the owner of the ship.
Wherefore, sirs, be of good
cheer: for I
believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
So take courage, men, for I believe God that it will happen just as He told me.
And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
Some of them were
convinced by what he said, but others refused to
believe.
For I am not
ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that
believeth; to the
Jew first, and also to the Greek.
I am not
ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to
everyone who
believes, first to the
Jew, then to the Greek.
For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith
nullify God’s faithfulness?
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction,
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the
justifier of him which
believeth in Jesus.
He did this to
demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to
justify the one who has faith in Jesus.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.
And he received the sign of
circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being
uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that
believe, though they be not
circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
And he received the sign of
circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still
uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who
believe but are not
circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the presence of God, in whom he believed, the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not yet exist.
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.”
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
but also for us, to whom righteousness will be credited—for us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him.
As it is written, Behold, I lay in
Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and
whosoever believeth on him shall not be
ashamed.
as it is written: “See, I lay in
Zion a stone of
stumbling and a rock of
offense; and the one who
believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
For Christ is the end of the law, to bring righteousness to
everyone who
believes.
That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
that if you
confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For with your heart you
believe and are justified, and with your mouth you
confess and are saved.
It is just as the Scripture says: “
Anyone who
believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
How then can they call on the One in whom they have not
believed? And how can they
believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to
preach?
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
But not all of them
welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has
believed our message?”
For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Just as you who formerly disobeyed God have now received mercy through their disobedience,
Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
so they too have now disobeyed, in order that they too may now receive mercy through the mercy shown to you.
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to
awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we
believed.
And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to
wake up from your
slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first
believed.
For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
For one person has faith to eat all things, while another, who is weak, eats only vegetables.
Hast thou faith? have it to
thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
Keep your
belief about such matters between
yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not
condemn himself by what he approves.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;
Pray that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in
Judea, and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there,
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the
foolishness of preaching to save them that
believe.
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the
foolishness of what was preached to save those who
believe.
Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you
believed, as the Lord has assigned to each his
role.
But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If a brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not
divorce her.
And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
And if a woman has an unbelieving husband and he is willing to live with her, she must not
divorce him.
For the unbelieving husband is
sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is
sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
For the unbelieving husband is
sanctified through his
believing wife, and the unbelieving wife is
sanctified through her
believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under
bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
But if the unbeliever leaves, let him go. The believing brother or sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace.
Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and
Cephas?
Have we no right to take along a
believing wife, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and
Cephas?
If any of them that
believe not
bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go;
whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat anything set before you without raising questions of conscience.
For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that
believe, but to them that
believe not: but
prophesying serveth not for them that
believe not, but for them which
believe.
Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers.
But if all
prophesy, and there come in one that
believeth not, or one unlearned, he is
convinced of all, he is judged of all:
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
Therefore whether it were I or they, so we
preach, and so ye
believed.
Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we
preach, and this is what you
believed.
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which
believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should
shine unto them.
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
And in keeping with what is written: “I believed, therefore I have spoken,” we who have the same spirit of faith also believe and therefore speak,
What harmony is there between Christ and
Belial? Or what does a
believer have in common with an unbeliever?
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
know that a man is not justified by works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Does God
lavish His Spirit on you and work miracles among you because you practice the law, or because you hear and
believe?
Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
So also, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
But the Scripture pronounces all things confined by sin, so that by faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth—the gospel of your salvation—you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
and the
surpassing greatness of His power to us who
believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength,
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
As a result, you have become an example to all the
believers in
Macedonia and
Achaia.
Ye are witnesses, and God also, how
holily and justly and unblameably we
behaved ourselves among you that
believe:
You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous, and
blameless our conduct was among you who
believed.
For this cause also
thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which
effectually worketh also in you that
believe.
And we continually
thank God because, when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as the true word of God—the word which is now at work in you who
believe.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For since we
believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also
believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen
asleep in Him.
When he shall come to be
glorified in his saints, and to be
admired in all them that
believe (because our testimony among you was
believed) in that day.
on the day He comes to be
glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have
believed, including you who have
believed our testimony.
And for this cause God shall send them strong
delusion, that they should
believe a lie:
For this reason God will send them a powerful
delusion so that they
believe the lie,
That they all might be
damned who
believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
But we are bound to give
thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through
sanctification of the Spirit and
belief of the truth:
But we should always
thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning to be saved by the
sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.
But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His perfect
patience as an example to those who would
believe in Him for eternal life.
And without controversy great is the
mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles,
believed on in the world, received up into glory.
By common confession, the
mystery of
godliness is great: He appeared in the flesh, was
vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the nations, was
believed in throughout the world, was taken up in glory.
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to
abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with
thanksgiving of them which
believe and know the truth.
They will
prohibit marriage and require
abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with
thanksgiving by those who
believe and know the truth.
For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
To this end we labor and
strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the
Savior of
everyone, and especially of those who
believe.
Let no man
despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the
believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Let no one
despise your youth, but set an example for the
believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
And these things give in charge, that they may be
blameless.
Give these instructions to the believers, so that they will be above reproach.
If any man or woman that
believeth have widows, let them
relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may
relieve them that are widows indeed.
If any believing woman has dependent widows, she must assist them and not allow the church to be burdened, so that it can help the widows who are truly in need.
And they that have
believing masters, let them not
despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and
exhort.
Those who have
believing masters should not show disrespect because they are brothers, but should serve them all the more, since those receiving their good service are beloved
believers. Teach and
encourage these principles.
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not
ashamed: for I know whom I have
believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
For this reason, even though I suffer as I do, I am not
ashamed; for I know whom I have
believed, and I am
convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day.
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
Of these things put them in
remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they
strive not about words to no profit, but to the
subverting of the hearers.
Remind the believers of these things, charging them before God to avoid quarreling over words, which succeeds only in leading the listeners to ruin.
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been
assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them.
If any be
blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of
riot or
unruly.
Put them in mind to be subject to
principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Remind the
believers to submit to rulers and authorities, to be
obedient and ready for every good work,
This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou
affirm constantly, that they which have
believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
This saying is
trustworthy. And I want you to
emphasize these things, so that those who have
believed God will take care to
devote themselves to good deeds. These things are excellent and profitable for the people.
And to whom
sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that
believed not?
And to whom did He
swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?
For we which have
believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have
sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Now we who have
believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is just as God has said: “So I
swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’” And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world.
But we are not of them who draw back unto
perdition; but of them that
believe to the saving of the soul.
But we are not of those who
shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that
diligently seek him.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because
anyone who approaches Him must
believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
By faith the
harlot Rahab perished not with them that
believed not, when she had received the
spies with peace.
Thou
believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also
believe, and
tremble.
You
believe that God is one. Good for you! Even the demons
believe that—and
shudder.
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God.
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet
believing, ye
rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you
believe in Him and
rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Through Him you
believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and
glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that
believeth on him shall not be confounded.
For it stands in Scripture: “See, I lay in
Zion a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone; and the one who
believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
Unto you therefore which
believe he is precious: but unto them which be
disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
To you who believe, then, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”
Honour all men. Love the
brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
