And I Daniel
fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was
astonished at the vision,
but none understood it.
I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was confounded by the vision; it was beyond understanding.
O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee,
but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries
whither thou hast driven them, because of their
trespass that they have
trespassed against thee.
To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but this day we are covered with shame—the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, and all Israel near and far, in all the countries to which You have driven us because of our unfaithfulness to You.
O my God,
incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses,
but for thy great
mercies.
Incline Your ear, O my God, and hear; open Your eyes and see the
desolation of the city that bears Your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before You because of our righteous acts,
but because of Your great
compassion.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the
Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and
threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in
troublous times.
Know and understand this: From the
issuance of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the
Messiah, the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with streets and a
trench,
but in times of distress.
And after
threescore and two weeks shall
Messiah be cut off,
but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then after the sixty-two weeks the
Messiah will be cut off and will have nothing. Then the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations have been decreed.
And he shall
confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it
desolate, even until the
consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the
desolate.
And he will
confirm a covenant with many for one week,
but in the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of the temple will come the
abomination that causes
desolation, until the decreed destruction is poured out upon him.”
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a message was revealed to Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar. The message was true, and it concerned a great conflict. And the understanding of the message was given to him in a vision.
And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision;
but a great
quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
Only I, Daniel, saw the vision; the men with me did not see it,
but a great terror fell upon them, and they ran and
hid themselves.
But the prince of the kingdom of Persia
withstood me one and twenty days:
but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
However, the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.
But I will
shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things,
but Michael your prince.
But first I will tell you what is inscribed in the Book of Truth. Yet no one has the courage to support me against these, except Michael your prince.
And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his
posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be
plucked up, even for others beside those.
But as soon as he is established, his kingdom will be broken up and
parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the authority with which he ruled, because his kingdom will be uprooted and given to others.
And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
The king of the South will grow strong, but one of his commanders will grow even stronger and will rule his own kingdom with great authority.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement:
but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm:
but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement.
But his daughter will not retain her position of power, nor will his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her father and the one who supported her.
But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
But one from her family line will rise up in his place, come against the army of the king of the North, and enter his fortress, fighting and prevailing.
But his sons shall be
stirred up, and shall
assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be
stirred up, even to his fortress.
And the king of the south shall be moved with
choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude;
but the multitude shall be given into his hand.
In a
rage, the king of the South will march out to fight the king of the North, who will raise a large army,
but it will be delivered into the hand of his enemy.
And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.
When the army is carried off, the king of the South will be proud in heart and will cast down tens of thousands, but he will not triumph.
And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall
exalt themselves to establish the vision;
but they shall fall.
In those times many will rise up against the king of the South. Violent ones among your own people will
exalt themselves in
fulfillment of the vision,
but they will fail.
But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.
The
invader will do as he pleases, and no one will stand against him. He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom,
but his plan will not succeed or help him.
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.
Then he will turn his face to the coastlands and capture many of them. But a commander will put an end to his reproach and will turn it back upon him.
Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land:
but he shall
stumble and fall, and not be found.
After this, he will turn back toward the fortresses of his own land,
but he will
stumble and fall and be no more.
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
In his place one will arise who will send out a tax
collector for the glory of the kingdom;
but within a few days he will be destroyed, though not in anger or in battle.
And in his estate shall stand up a
vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom:
but he shall come in
peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by
flatteries.
In his place a
despicable person will arise; royal honors will not be given to him,
but he will come in a time of peace and seize the kingdom by
intrigue.
He shall enter
peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall
scatter among them the prey, and
spoil, and riches:
yea, and he shall
forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
In a time of peace, he will
invade the richest provinces and do what his fathers and forefathers never did. He will
lavish plunder,
loot, and wealth on his followers, and he will plot against the strongholds—
but only for a time.
And he shall
stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be
stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army;
but he shall not stand: for they shall
forecast devices against him.
And with a large army he will
stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South, who will
mobilize a very large and powerful army
but will not
withstand the plots devised against him.
And both these kings’ hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table;
but it shall not
prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.
And the two kings, with their hearts bent on evil, will speak lies at the same table,
but to no
avail, for still the end will come at the appointed time.
Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
The king of the North will return to his land with great wealth, but his heart will be set against the holy covenant; so he will do damage and return to his own land.
At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.
At the appointed time he will
invade the South again,
but this time will not be like the first.
And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by
flatteries:
but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
With
flattery he will corrupt those who
violate the covenant,
but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.
Now when they shall fall, they shall be
holpen with a little help:
but many shall
cleave to them with
flatteries.
Now when they fall, they will be granted a little help,
but many will join them
insincerely.
But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
And in their place, he will honor a god of fortresses—a god his fathers did not know—with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches.
And at the time of the end shall the king of the south
push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a
whirlwind, with
chariots, and with
horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
At the time of the end, the king of the South will
engage him in battle,
but the king of the North will storm out against him with
chariots,
horsemen, and many ships,
invading many countries and
sweeping through them like a flood.
He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown:
but these shall escape out of his hand, even
Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of
Ammon.
He will also
invade the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall.
But these will be delivered from his hand:
Edom, Moab, and the leaders of the
Ammonites.
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and over all the riches of Egypt, and the Libyans and Cushites will also submit to him.
But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great
fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
But news from the east and the north will
alarm him, and he will go out with great
fury to destroy many and
devote them to destruction.
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
He will pitch his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain, but he will meet his end with no one to help him.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
“At that time Michael, the great prince who stands watch over your people, will rise up. There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred from the beginning of nations until that time.
But at that time your people—
everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered.
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall
awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame and
everlasting contempt.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and
fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
But you, Daniel, shut up these words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will
roam to and
fro, and knowledge will increase.”
And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these things?”
Many shall be
purified, and made white, and tried;
but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand;
but the wise shall understand.
Many will be
purified, made spotless, and refined,
but the wicked will continue to act wickedly. None of the wicked will understand,
but the wise will understand.
But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
But as for you, go on your way until the end. You will rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”
And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
Gomer again conceived and gave birth to a daughter, and the LORD said to
Hosea, “Name her Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have
compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever
forgive them.
But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by
horsemen.
Yet I will have
compassion on the house of Judah, and I will save them—not by bow or sword or war, not by horses and cavalry,
but by the LORD their God.”
And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
She will pursue her lovers but not catch them; she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’
And I will visit upon her the days of
Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and
forgat me, saith the LORD.
I will
punish her for the days of the Baals when she burned incense to them, when she decked herself with rings and
jewelry, and went after her lovers.
But Me she
forgot,” declares the LORD.
Yet let no man
strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that
strive with the priest.
But let no man
contend; let no man offer reproof; for your people are like those who
contend with a priest.
For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit
whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take
heed to the LORD.
They will eat
but not be satisfied; they will be
promiscuous but not multiply. For they have stopped obeying the LORD.
And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a
rebuker of them all.
The rebels are deep in slaughter;
but I will
chastise them all.
They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
They go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, but they do not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them.
When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not
heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, then Ephraim turned to Assyria and sent to the great king.
But he cannot cure you or
heal your wound.
Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath
torn, and he will
heal us; he hath
smitten, and he will bind us up.
Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has
torn us to pieces,
but He will
heal us; He has wounded us,
but He will bind up our wounds.
But they, like Adam, have
transgressed the covenant; there they were unfaithful to Me.
And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have
beset them about; they are before my face.
But they fail to consider in their hearts that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds are all around them; they are before My face.
Strangers have
devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not:
yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
Foreigners
consume his strength,
but he does not notice. Even his hair is
streaked with gray,
but he does not know.
And they have not
cried unto me with their heart, when they
howled upon their beds: they
assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they
rebel against me.
They do not cry out to Me from their hearts when they
wail upon their beds. They
slash themselves for grain and new wine,
but turn away from Me.
They return,
but not to the most High: they are like a
deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the
rage of their tongue: this shall be their
derision in the land of Egypt.
They turn,
but not to the Most High; they are like a
faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword for the
cursing of their tongue; for this they will be
ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.
But Israel has rejected good; an enemy will pursue him.
They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.
They set up kings,
but not by Me. They make princes,
but without My
approval. With their silver and gold they make themselves idols, to their own destruction.
For from Israel was it also: the
workman made it; therefore it is not God:
but the
calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
For this thing is from Israel— a
craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be broken to pieces, that
calf of Samaria.
I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.
Though I wrote for them the great things of My law, they regarded them as something strange.
They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and
punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied
fenced cities:
but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall
devour the palaces thereof.
Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has multiplied its fortified cities.
But I will send fire upon their cities, and it will
consume their citadels.
They shall not dwell in the LORD’S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
They will not remain in the land of the LORD; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria.
They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be
polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.
They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please Him,
but will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat will be
defiled. For their bread will be for themselves; it will not enter the house of the LORD.
The
watchman of Ephraim was with my God:
but the prophet is a
snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
The prophet is Ephraim’s
watchman, along with my God, yet the
snare of the fowler lies on all his paths. Hostility is in the house of his God!
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time:
but they went to
Baal-peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the firstfruits of the fig tree in its first season.
But they went to
Baal-peor, and consecrated themselves to Shame; so they became as
detestable as the thing they loved.
Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.
I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a
meadow.
But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.
And Ephraim is as an
heifer that is taught, and loveth to
tread out the corn;
but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to
ride; Judah shall
plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
Ephraim is a well-trained
heifer that loves to
thresh;
but I will place a yoke on her fair neck. I will
harness Ephraim, Judah will
plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto
Baalim, and burned incense to
graven images.
But the more I called Israel, the farther they departed from Me. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to carved images.
I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms;
but they knew not that I
healed them.
It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them in My arms,
but they never realized that it was I who
healed them.
He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
Will they not return to the land of Egypt and be ruled by Assyria because they refused to
repent?
Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with
deceit:
but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.
Ephraim surrounds Me with lies, the house of Israel with
deceit;
but Judah still walks with God and is faithful to the Holy One.
Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
But you must return to your God, maintaining love and justice, and always waiting on your God.
And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
But I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt. I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.
And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
But by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
Yet I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God
but Me, for there is no
Savior besides Me.
O Israel, thou hast destroyed
thyself;
but in me is thine help.
You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against Me— against your helper.
The sorrows of a
travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
Labor pains come upon him,
but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the opening of the
womb.
Who is wise, and he shall understand these things?
prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them:
but the transgressors shall fall therein.
A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of
Eden before them, and behind them a
desolate wilderness;
yea, and nothing shall escape them.
Before them a fire devours, and behind them a flame scorches. The land before them is like the Garden of
Eden,
but behind them, it is like a desert wasteland— surely nothing will escape them.
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and
desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his
stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
The northern army I will drive away from you,
banishing it to a barren and
desolate land, its front ranks into the Eastern Sea, and its rear guard into the Western Sea. And its
stench will rise; its foul
odor will
ascend. For He has done great things.
The LORD also shall
roar out of
Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall
shake:
but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
The LORD will
roar from
Zion and raise His voice from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will
tremble.
But the LORD will be a refuge for His people, a
stronghold for the people of Israel.
But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
But Judah will be inhabited
forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
But I will send a fire into the house of
Hazael, which shall
devour the palaces of Ben-
hadad.
But I will send a fire on the wall of
Gaza, which shall
devour the palaces thereof:
So I will send fire upon the walls of
Gaza, to
consume its citadels.
But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall
devour the palaces thereof.
So I will send fire upon the walls of Tyre to
consume its citadels.”
But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall
devour the palaces of
Bozrah.
So I will send fire upon Teman to
consume the citadels of
Bozrah.”
So I will
kindle a fire in the walls of Rabbah to
consume its citadels amid war
cries on the day of battle and a violent wind on the day of
tempest.
But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall
devour the palaces of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with
tumult, with
shouting, and with the sound of the
trumpet:
So I will send fire against Moab to
consume the citadels of Kerioth. Moab will die in
tumult, amid war
cries and the sound of the ram’s horn.
But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall
devour the palaces of Jerusalem.
So I will send fire upon Judah to
consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”
But ye gave the
Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying,
Prophesy not.
“
But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to
prophesy.
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without
revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.
The lion hath
roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can
but prophesy?
The lion has
roared— who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken— who will not
prophesy?
And also I have
withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece
whereupon it rained not
withered.
“I also
withheld the rain from you when the harvest was three months away. I sent rain on one city
but withheld it from another. One field received rain; another without rain
withered.
So two or three cities
wandered unto one city, to drink water;
but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
People
staggered from city to city for water to drink,
but they were not satisfied; yet you did not return to Me,” declares the LORD.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “The city that marches out a thousand strong will only see a hundred return, and the one that marches out a hundred strong will have but ten left in the house of Israel.”
