But let man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and cry
mightily unto God:
yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Furthermore, let both man and beast be covered with
sackcloth, and have
everyone call out earnestly to God. Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.
For the inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem.
For the dwellers of Maroth pined for good, but
calamity came down from the LORD, even to the gate of Jerusalem.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I
devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go
haughtily: for this time is evil.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “I am
planning against this nation a
disaster from which you cannot free your necks. Then you will not walk so proudly, for it will be a time of
calamity.
Who also eat the flesh of my people, and
flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and
chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the
caldron.
You eat the flesh of my people after
stripping off their skin and breaking their bones. You
chop them up like flesh for the
cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.”
Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with
calves of a year old?
With what shall I come before the LORD when I bow before the God on high? Should I come to Him with burnt offerings, with year-old
calves?
The LORD’S voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
The voice of the LORD
calls out to the city (and it is sound wisdom to fear Your name): “
Heed the rod and the One who ordained it.
O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou
wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou
wilt not save!
How long, O LORD, must I call for help but You do not hear, or cry out to You, “Violence!” but You do not save?
Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word.
Selah. Thou
didst cleave the earth with rivers.
You
brandished Your bow; You
called for many arrows.
Selah You split the earth with rivers.
And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the
cormorant and the
bittern shall
lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows;
desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the
cedar work.
For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.
For then I will restore pure lips to the peoples, that all may call upon the name of the LORD and serve Him shoulder to shoulder.
And I
called for a
drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
I have summoned a
drought on the fields and on the mountains, on the grain, new wine, and oil, and on whatever the ground yields, on man and beast, and on all the labor of your hands.”
And I am very
sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the
affliction.
but I am fiercely
angry with the nations that are at ease. For I was a little
angry, but they have added to the
calamity.’
In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.
On that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, you will each
invite your
neighbor to sit under your own vine and fig tree.’”
Therefore it is come to pass, that as he
cried, and they would not hear; so they
cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:
And just as I had
called and they would not
listen, so when they
called I would not
listen, says the LORD of Hosts.
Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto
Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be
called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
This is what the LORD says: “I will return to
Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be
called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD of Hosts will be
called the Holy Mountain.”
And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two
staves; the one I
called Beauty, and the other I
called Bands; and I fed the flock.
So I pastured the flock marked for slaughter, especially the
afflicted of the flock. Then I took for myself two staffs,
calling one Favor and the other Union, and I pastured the flock.
And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it
asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.
Next I took my staff
called Favor and cut it in two,
revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations.
Then I cut
asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the
brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
Then I cut in two my second staff
called Union, breaking the
brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
This third I will bring through the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are My people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’”
Whereas
Edom saith, We are
impoverished, but we will return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall
call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath
indignation for ever.
Though
Edom may say, “We have been
devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “They may build, but I will
demolish. They will be
called the Land of Wickedness, and a people with whom the LORD is
indignant forever.
My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear
wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.
“My covenant with him was one of life and peace, which I gave to him; it
called for reverence, and he
revered Me and stood in
awe of My name.
And all nations shall
call you blessed: for ye shall be a
delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight,” says the LORD of Hosts.
And now we
call the proud happy;
yea, they that work wickedness are set up;
yea, they that
tempt God are even delivered.
So now we
call the
arrogant blessed. Not only do evildoers
prosper, they even test God and escape.’”
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with
healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as
calves of the
stall.
“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with
healing in its wings, and you will go out and
leap like
calves from the
stall.
And Jacob
begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is
called Christ.
and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall
call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

call Him
Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).
And knew her not till she had brought forth her
firstborn son: and he
called his name JESUS.
But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a Son. And he gave Him the name Jesus.
Then Herod, when he had
privily called the wise men, enquired of them
diligently what time the star appeared.
Then Herod
called the
Magi secretly and learned from them the exact time the star had appeared.
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
And he came and dwelt in a city
called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be
called a
Nazarene.
and he went and lived in a town
called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be
called a
Nazarene.”
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’”
And Jesus, walking by the sea of
Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon
called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of
Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon
called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were
fishermen.
And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father,
mending their nets; and he
called them.
Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee,
mending their nets. Jesus
called them,
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be
called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but
whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be
called great in the kingdom of heaven.
So then,
whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be
called least in the kingdom of heaven; but
whoever practices and teaches them will be
called great in the kingdom of heaven.
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and
rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great
calm.
“You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and
rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly
calm.
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to
call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
And when he had
called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to
heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
And
calling His twelve disciples to Him, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could drive them out and
heal every disease and sickness.
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
These are the names of the twelve apostles: first Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have
called the master of the house
Beelzebub, how much more shall they
call them of his household?
It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
But
whereunto shall I
liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and
calling unto their fellows,
To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
Is not this the
carpenter’s son? is not his mother
called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and
Judas?
“Isn’t this the
carpenter’s son? Isn’t His mother’s name Mary, and aren’t His brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and
Judas?
And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
Jesus
called the crowd to Him and said, “
Listen and understand.
Then Jesus
called his disciples unto him, and said, I have
compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they
faint in the way.
Then Jesus
called His disciples to Him and said, “I have
compassion for this crowd, because they have already been with Me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away
hungry, or they may
faint along the way.”

forgave all your debt because you
begged me.
And he said unto him, Why
callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou
wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
“Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
So when even was come, the lord of the
vineyard saith unto his
steward,
Call the labourers, and give them their
hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
When evening came, the owner of the
vineyard said to his
foreman, ‘
Call the workers and pay them their wages, starting with the last ones
hired and moving on to the first.’
So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of
thieves.

And sent forth his servants to
call them that were
bidden to the
wedding: and they would not come.
He sent his servants to
call those he had invited to the
banquet, but they refused to come.

For many are called, but few are chosen.”
He saith unto them, How then
doth David in spirit
call him Lord, saying,
Jesus said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord’? For he says:
If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

And greetings in the markets, and to be
called of men,
Rabbi,
Rabbi.
the greetings in the marketplaces, and the title of ‘
Rabbi’ by which they are addressed.
But be not ye
called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
But you are not to be
called ‘
Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
And do not
call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.
Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
Nor are you to be
called instructors, for you have one
Instructor, the Christ.
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a
trumpet, and they shall gather together his
elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
And He will send out His angels with a loud
trumpet call, and they will gather His
elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
For it is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions.
Then assembled together the chief priests, and the
scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was
called Caiaphas,
At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the
courtyard of the high priest, whose name was
Caiaphas,
Then one of the twelve,
called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
Then one of the Twelve, the one

called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them,
