lodged them. And on the
morrow Peter went away with them, and
certain brethren from

Joppa.
And he commanded them to be
baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to
tarry certain days.
So he ordered that they be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.
I was in the city of
Joppa praying: and in a
trance I saw a vision, A
certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

dragged him outside the city, presuming he was dead.
And
certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be

When therefore Paul and
Barnabas had no small
dissension and
disputation with them, they determined that Paul and
Barnabas, and
certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
And after
engaging these men in sharp
debate, Paul and
Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.
But there rose up
certain of the sect of the
Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to
circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
But some believers from the party of the
Pharisees stood up and declared, “The Gentiles must be
circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.”
Forasmuch as we have heard, that
certain which went out from us have troubled you with words,
subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be
circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
It has come to our attention that some went out from us without our
authorization and unsettled you, troubling your minds by what they said.
Then came he to Derbe and
Lystra: and, behold, a
certain disciple was there, named
Timotheus, the son of a
certain woman, which was a
Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
Paul came to Derbe and then to
Lystra, where he found a disciple named
Timothy, the son of a believing Jewish woman and a Greek father.
And from thence to
Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of
Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city
abiding certain days.
From there we went to the Roman colony of
Philippi, the leading city of that district of
Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.
And a
certain woman named
Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of
Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Among those
listening was a woman named
Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of
Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to
respond to Paul’s message.
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a
certain damsel possessed with a spirit of
divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by
soothsaying:

divination, who
earned a large income for her masters by fortune-telling.
But the Jews which believed not, moved with
envy, took unto them
certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an
uproar, and
assaulted the house of
Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
The Jews, however, became
jealous. So they brought in some troublemakers from the marketplace, formed a
mob, and sent the city into an
uproar. They
raided Jason’s house in search of Paul and
Silas, hoping to bring them out to the people.
And when they found them not, they drew
Jason and
certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world
upside down are come
hither also;
But when they could not find them, they
dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials,
shouting, “These men who have turned the world
upside down have now come here,
Then
certain philosophers of the
Epicureans, and of the Stoicks,
encountered him. And some said, What will this
babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a
setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
Some
Epicurean and
Stoic philosophers also began to
debate with him. Some of them asked, “What is this
babbler trying to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was
proclaiming the good news of Jesus and the resurrection.
For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
For you are bringing some strange notions to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.”
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Dionysius the
Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others who were with them.
And found a
certain Jew named
Aquila, born in
Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife

Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
There he found a
Jew named
Aquila, a native of
Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife
Priscilla because
Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to visit them,
And he departed thence, and entered into a
certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the
synagogue.
So Paul left the
synagogue and went next door to the house of
Titus Justus, a worshiper of God.
And a
certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an
eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
Meanwhile a
Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an
eloquent man, well versed in the Scriptures.
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the interior and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples
Then
certain of the
vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We
adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Now there were some
itinerant Jewish exorcists who tried to
invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits. They would say, “I bind you by Jesus, whom Paul proclaims.”
And
certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not

begging him not to
venture into the theatre.
And there sat in a window a
certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third
loft, and was taken up dead.
And a
certain young man named Eutychus, seated in the window, was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound
asleep, he fell from the third story and was
picked up dead.
And as we
tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a
certain prophet, named
Agabus.
After we had been there several days, a prophet named
Agabus came down from
Judea.
There went with us also
certain of the disciples of Caesarea, and brought with them one Mnason of
Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should
lodge.
Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us, and they took us to stay at the home of Mnason the
Cypriot, an early disciple.
What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.
What then should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come.
And some
cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the
certainty for the
tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.
Some in the crowd were
shouting one thing, and some another. And since the commander could not get at the truth because of the
uproar, he ordered that Paul be brought into the
barracks.
On the
morrow, because he would have known the
certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
The next day the commander, wanting to learn the real reason Paul was accused by the Jews, released him and ordered the chief priests and the whole
Sanhedrin to
assemble. Then he brought Paul down and had him stand before them.
And when it was day,
certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a
curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
When
daylight came, the Jews formed a
conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.
Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.
Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, “Take this young man to the commander; he has something to tell him.”
And after five days
Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a
certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
Five days later the high priest
Ananias came down with some elders and a
lawyer named Tertullus, who presented to the governor their case against Paul.
At the time they found me in the temple, I was
ceremonially clean and was not
inciting a crowd or an
uproar. But there are some Jews from the province of Asia
And after
certain days, when
Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a
Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
After several days,
Felix returned with his wife Drusilla, who was a
Jewess. He sent for Paul and
listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.
After several days had passed, King
Agrippa and
Bernice came down to Caesarea to pay their respects to
Festus.
And when they had been there many days,
Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a
certain man left in bonds by
Felix:
Since they were staying several days,
Festus laid out Paul’s case before the king: “There is a
certain man whom
Felix left in prison.
But had
certain questions against him of their own
superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul
affirmed to be alive.
They only had some contentions with him regarding their own religion and a
certain Jesus who had died, but whom Paul
affirmed to be alive.
Of whom I have no
certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king
Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
I have nothing definite to write to our sovereign one about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King
Agrippa, so that after this inquiry I may have something to write.
And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and
certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a
centurion of Augustus’ band.
When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a
centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment.
And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:
Passing to the
lee of a small island called Cauda, we barely managed to secure the
lifeboat.
Howbeit we must be cast upon a
certain island.
However, we must run
aground on some island.”
And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a
certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
When
daylight came, they did not recognize the land, but they sighted a bay with a sandy
beach, where they decided to run the ship
aground if they could.
God
forbid:
yea, let God be true, but every man a
liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a
liar. As it is written: “So that You may be proved right when You speak and victorious when You judge.”
God
forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
Certainly not! In that case, how could God judge the world?
Do we then make void the law through faith? God
forbid:
yea, we establish the law.
Do we, then,
nullify the law by this faith?
Certainly not! Instead, we
uphold the law.
God
forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God
forbid.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not!
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God
forbid.
Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known
lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not
covet.
What then shall we say? Is the law sin?
Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have been mindful of sin if not for the law. For I would not have been aware of
coveting if the law had not said, “Do not
covet.”
Was then that which is good made death unto me? God
forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But in order that sin might be exposed as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God
forbid.
What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Certainly not!
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God
forbid. For I also am an
Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
I ask then, did God
reject His people?
Certainly not! I am an
Israelite myself, a
descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.
I say then, Have they
stumbled that they should fall? God
forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to
provoke them to jealousy.
I ask then, did they
stumble so as to fall beyond recovery?
Certainly not! However, because of their
trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel
jealous.
For if God
spared not the natural branches, take
heed lest he also
spare not thee.
For if God did not
spare the natural branches, He will
certainly not
spare you either.
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
One person regards a
certain day above the others, while someone else considers every day alike. Each one should be fully
convinced in his own mind.
For it hath pleased them of
Macedonia and
Achaia to make a
certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
For
Macedonia and
Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and
thirst, and are naked, and are
buffeted, and have no
certain dwellingplace;
To this very hour we are
hungry and
thirsty, we are poorly clothed, we are
brutally treated, we are homeless.
But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
Although I am not a polished speaker, I am certainly not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every way possible.
For before that
certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the
circumcision.
For before
certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself, for fear of those in the
circumcision group.
But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God
forbid.
But if, while we seek to be justified in Christ, we ourselves are found to be sinners, does that make Christ a minister of sin? Certainly not!
Is the law then against the promises of God? God
forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life,
verily righteousness should have been by the law.
Is the law, then, opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come from the law.
As I
besought thee to
abide still at Ephesus, when I went into
Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
As I urged you on my departure to
Macedonia, you should stay on at Ephesus to
instruct certain men not to teach false doctrines
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to
abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with
thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
They will
prohibit marriage and require
abstinence from
certain foods that God has created to be received with
thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
For we brought nothing into the world, so we cannot carry anything out of it.
But one in a
certain place
testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?
But
somewhere it is
testified in these words: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
For
somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: “And on the seventh day God rested from all His works.”
Again, he limiteth a
certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice,
harden not your hearts.
God again designated a
certain day as “
Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated: “
Today, if you hear His voice, do not
harden your hearts.”
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.
For there are
certain men
crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this
condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into
lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
For
certain men have
crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for
condemnation. They turn the grace of our God into a
license for immorality, and they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
And
certain of the chief of their families, when they came to the temple of God that is in Jerusalem,
vowed to set up the house again in his own place according to their ability,
There went up with him also
certain of the children of Israel, of the priest of the Levites, of the holy singers,
porters, and ministers of the temple, unto Jerusalem,
For, behold, the burning wrath of a great multitude is
kindled over you, and they shall take away
certain of you, and feed you, being idle, with things offered unto idols.
Declared unto us, that in all nations throughout the world there was scattered a
certain malicious people, that had laws contrary to all nations, and continually
despised the commandments of kings, so as the uniting of our kingdoms, honourably intended by us cannot go forward.
For he hath given me certain knowledge of the things that are, namely, to know how the world was made, and the operation of the elements:
Then
certain of the people were so forward
herein, that they went to the king, who gave them licence to do after the ordinances of the heathen:
At which time according to the commandment they put to death
certain women, that had caused their children to be
circumcised.
Now when it was told the king’s servants, and the host that was at Jerusalem, in the city of David, that certain men, who had broken the king’s commandment, were gone down into the secret places in the wilderness,
Then
Judas appointed
certain men to fight against those that were in the fortress, until he had
cleansed the sanctuary.
At that time
certain priests,
desirous to
shew their valour, were slain in battle, for that they went out to fight
unadvisedly.
Howbeit certain of them that were besieged got forth, unto whom some ungodly men of Israel joined themselves:
After this, removed Bacchides from Jerusalem, and pitched his tents in Bezeth, where he sent and took many of the men that had
forsaken him, and
certain of the people also, and when he had slain them, he cast them into the great pit.
After this went Nicanor up to mount
Sion, and there came out of the sanctuary
certain of the priests and
certain of the elders of the people, to
salute him
peaceably, and to
shew him the burnt sacrifice that was offered for the king.
And that they, having knowledge thereof sent against them a
certain captain, and fighting with them
slew many of them, and carried away
captives their wives and their children, and
spoiled them, and took possession of their lands, and pulled down their strong holds, and brought them to be their servants unto this day:
But
Jonathan left his brother Simon in the city, and went forth himself into the country, and with a
certain number went he forth.
Only at Bethsura
certain of those that had
forsaken the law and the commandments remained still: for it was their place of refuge.
At that time
certain pestilent fellows of Israel, men of a wicked life, assembled themselves against him, to
accuse him: but the king would not hear them.
Nevertheless
Jonathan, when he heard this, commanded to
besiege it still: and he chose
certain of the elders of Israel and the priests, and put himself in
peril;
And though certain ungodly men of the people had made complaints against him,
After this, when king
Demetrius saw that the land was quiet before him, and that no resistance was made against him, he sent away all his forces, every one to his own place, except
certain bands of strangers, whom he had gathered from the isles of the heathen: wherefore all the forces of his fathers
hated him.
Now when
Jonathan saw that time served him, he chose
certain men, and sent them to Rome, for to
confirm and renew the friendship that they had with them.
In those days Simon camped against
Gaza and besieged it round about; he made also an engine of war, and set it by the city, and
battered a
certain tower, and took it.
Forasmuch as
certain pestilent men have
usurped the kingdom of our fathers, and my purpose is to
challenge it again, that I may restore it to the old estate, and to that end have gathered a multitude of foreign soldiers together, and prepared ships of war;
Then answered Simon, and said unto him, We have neither taken other men’s land, nor
holden that which appertaineth to others, but the inheritance of our fathers, which our enemies had
wrongfully in possession a
certain time.
