Eve his wife; and she

Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us

cursed.

toil of our hands caused by the ground that the LORD has
cursed.”
And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always
strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not
contend with man

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
So the waters
continued to
surge and rise greatly on the earth, and the ark
floated on the surface of the waters.
And the waters returned from off the earth
continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were
abated.
The waters
receded steadily from the earth, and after 150 days the waters had gone down.
And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
And the waters
continued to
recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.
Go to, let us go down, and there
confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
Come, let Us go down and
confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
Therefore is the name of it called
Babel; because the LORD did there
confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD
scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
That is why it is called
Babel, for there the LORD
confused the language of the whole world, and from that place the LORD scattered them over the face of all the earth.

And they returned, and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and
smote all the country of the
Amalekites, and also the
Amorites that dwelt in Hazezon-tamar.

conquered the whole territory of the
Amalekites, as well as the
Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.

Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of

confederate with

Abram the Hebrew. Now
Abram was living near the Oaks of

maid into thy
bosom; and when she saw that she had
conceived, I was
despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

Abram, “May the wrong done to me be upon you! I delivered my servant into your arms, and ever since she saw that she was
pregnant, she has treated me with
contempt. May the LORD judge between you and me.”
And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name
Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy
affliction.
The angel of the LORD proceeded: “Behold, you have

Ishmael, for the LORD has heard your cry of
affliction.
And I will
fetch a
morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
And I will bring a
bit of bread so that you may refresh
yourselves. This is why you have passed your servant’s way. After that, you may
continue on your way.” “
Yes,” they replied, “you may do as you have said.”
And when the morning arose, then the angels

consumed in the iniquity of the city.
At
daybreak the angels

And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
As soon as the men had brought them out, one of them said, “Run for your lives! Do not look back, and do not stop
anywhere on the plain!
Flee to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”
And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

And God said unto him in a dream,
Yea, I know that thou
didst this in the
integrity of thy heart; for I also
withheld thee from
sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
Then God said to
Abimelech in the dream, “
Yes, I know that you did this with a clear
conscience, and so I have kept you from
sinning against Me. That is why I did not let you touch her.
For
Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
So
Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised.
And the thing was very
grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.
Now this matter distressed Abraham greatly because it
concerned his son
Ishmael.
And his
concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
And the servant put his hand under the
thigh of Abraham his master, and
sware to him
concerning that matter.
So the servant placed his hand under the
thigh of his master Abraham and
swore an oath to him
concerning this matter.
But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.
But while he was still alive, Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.
Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
And at a ripe old age he breathed his last and died, old and contented, and was gathered to his people.
And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and
Rebekah his wife
conceived.

Rebekah conceived.
Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will
bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I
sware unto Abraham thy father;
Stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and
bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will
confirm the oath that I
swore to your father Abraham.
And the herdmen of
Gerar did
strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they
strove with him.
But the herdsmen of
Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they
contended with him.
And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him
concerning the well which they had
digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
On that same day, Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had
dug. “We have found water!” they told him.
And these words of
Esau her elder son were told to
Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother
Esau, as touching thee,
doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
When the words of her older son
Esau were relayed to
Rebekah, she sent for her younger son Jacob and told him, “Look, your brother
Esau is
consoling himself by
plotting to kill you.
And Leah
conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name
Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my
affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
And Leah
conceived and gave birth to a son, and she named him
Reuben, for she said, “The LORD has seen my
affliction. Surely my husband will love me now.”
And she
conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was
hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name
Simeon.
Again she
conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has given me this son as well.” So she named him
Simeon.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.
Once again Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.
And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
And once more she conceived and gave birth to a son and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah. Then Leah stopped having children.

Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

hearkened unto Leah, and she
conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.
And God
listened to Leah, and she
conceived and bore a fifth son to Jacob.
And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.
Again Leah conceived and bore a sixth son to Jacob.
And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:
and she conceived and gave birth to a son. “God has taken away my shame,” she said.
So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted
stolen with me.
So my
honesty will
testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not
speckled or
spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-colored, they will be
considered stolen.”
And he set the rods which he had
pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should
conceive when they came to drink.
Then he set the
peeled branches in the watering troughs in front of the flocks coming in to drink. So when the flocks were in heat and came to drink,
And it came to pass,
whensoever the stronger cattle did
conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might
conceive among the rods.
Whenever the stronger females of the flock were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs, in full view of the animals, so that they would breed in front of the branches.
And it came to pass at the time that the cattle
conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which
leaped upon the cattle were
ringstraked,
speckled, and
grisled.
When the flocks were breeding, I saw in a dream that the
streaked,
spotted, and
speckled males were mating with the females.
Thus I was; in the day the
drought consumed me, and the
frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.
As it was, the heat
consumed me by day and the
frost by night, and sleep fled from my eyes.
Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to
endure, until I come unto my lord unto
Seir.
Please let my lord go
ahead of his servant. I will
continue on slowly, at a comfortable
pace for the
livestock and children, until I come to my lord at
Seir.”
But in this will we
consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be
circumcised;
We will
consent to this on one
condition, that you become
circumcised like us—every one of your males.
Only
herein will the men
consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be
circumcised, as they are
circumcised.
But only on this
condition will the men agree to dwell with us and be one people: if all our men are
circumcised as they are.
Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.
Will not their
livestock, their possessions, and all their animals become ours? Only let us
consent to them, and they will dwell among us.”
And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that
Reuben went and lay with
Bilhah his father’s
concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
While Israel was living in that region,
Reuben went in and
slept with his father’s
concubine Bilhah, and Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons:
And Timna was
concubine to Eliphaz
Esau’s son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah
Esau’s wife.
Additionally, Timna, a
concubine of
Esau’s son Eliphaz, gave birth to Amalek. These are the grandsons of
Esau’s wife Adah.
And when they saw him
afar off, even before he came near unto them, they
conspired against him to
slay him.
Now Joseph’s brothers saw him in the distance, and before he arrived, they
plotted to kill him.
And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we
slay our brother, and
conceal his blood?
Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?
Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
Come, let us sell him to the
Ishmaelites and not lay a hand on him; for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And they agreed.
And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.
So she conceived and gave birth to a son, and Judah named him Er.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.
Again she conceived and gave birth to a son, and she named him Onan.
And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.
Then she gave birth to another son and named him Shelah; it was at Chezib that she gave birth to him.
And he said, What
pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy
signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she
conceived by him.
“What
pledge should I give you?” he asked. She answered, “Your seal and your cord, and the staff in your hand.” So he gave them to her and
slept with her, and she became
pregnant by him.
And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not
concern himself with anything except the food he
ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master
wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not
concern himself with anything in his house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care.
And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
So Joseph’s master took him and had him thrown into the prison where the king’s prisoners were confined. While Joseph was there in the prison,
The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to
prosper.
The
warden did not
concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
and imprisoned them in the house of the captain of the guard, the same prison where Joseph was confined.
And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.
The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he became their personal
attendant. After they had been in
custody for some time,
And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the
plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall
consume the land;
but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in the land of Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will
devastate the land.
Send one of you, and let him
fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are
spies.
Send one of your number to get your brother; the rest of you will be
confined so that the truth of your words may be tested. If they are untrue, then as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are
spies!”
But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be
verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.
Then bring your youngest brother to me so that your words can be
verified, that you may not die.” And to this they
consented.
And they said one to another, We are
verily guilty
concerning our brother, in that we saw the
anguish of his soul, when he
besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
Then they said to one another, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw his
anguish when he
pleaded with us, but we would not
listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.”
Then Joseph could not
refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he
cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
Then Joseph could no longer
control himself before all his attendants, and he
cried out, “Send
everyone away from me!” So none of them were with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.
And the woman
conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she
hid him three months.
and she
conceived and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a beautiful child, she
hid him for three months.
And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
Moses agreed to stay with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage.
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a
bush: and he looked, and, behold, the
bush burned with fire, and the
bush was not
consumed.
There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a
blazing fire from within a
bush. Moses saw the
bush ablaze with fire, but it was not
consumed.
And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:
When they left Pharaoh, they
confronted Moses and Aaron, who stood waiting to meet them.
And I will bring you in unto the land,
concerning the which I did
swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an
heritage: I am the LORD.
And I will bring you into the land that I
swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD!’”
And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them a charge concerning both the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
For if thou refuse to let them go, and
wilt hold them still,
But if you continue to restrain them and refuse to let them go,
So there was
hail, and fire mingled with the
hail, very
grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
The
hail fell and the
lightning continued flashing through it. The
hail was so severe that nothing like it had ever been seen in all the land of Egypt from the time it became a nation.
For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was
darkened; and they did eat every
herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the
hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
They covered the face of all the land until it was black, and they
consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the
hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man must select a lamb for his family, one per household.
And ye shall keep it up until the
fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the
congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
You must keep it until the
fourteenth day of the month, when the whole assembly of the
congregation of Israel will slaughter the animals at
twilight.
And in the first day there shall be an holy
convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy
convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
On the first day you are to hold a sacred assembly, and another on the seventh day. You must not do any work on those days, except to prepare the meals—that is all you may do.
Seven days shall there be no
leaven found in your houses: for
whosoever eateth that which is
leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the
congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
For seven days there must be no
leaven found in your houses. If
anyone eats something
leavened, that person, whether a foreigner or native of the land, must be cut off from the
congregation of Israel.
All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
The whole
congregation of Israel must
celebrate it.
For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are
entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
For Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, ‘They are wandering the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them in.’
And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the
pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
At morning watch, however, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the
pillar of fire and cloud, and He threw their camp into
confusion.
And in the greatness of thine
excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which
consumed them as
stubble.
You overthrew Your
adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning wrath; it
consumed them like
stubble.
And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an
heap, and the depths were
congealed in the heart of the sea.
At the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up; like a wall the currents stood firm; the depths
congealed in the heart of the sea.
And they took their journey from Elim, and all the
congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and
Sinai, on the
fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
On the
fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt, the whole
congregation of Israel set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and
Sinai.
And the whole
congregation of the children of Israel
murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
And there in the desert they all grumbled against Moses and Aaron.
And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole
congregation of Israel, ‘Come before the LORD, for He has heard your
grumbling.’”
And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
And as Aaron was speaking to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the desert, and there in a cloud the glory of the LORD appeared.
And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much food—two omers per person—and all the leaders of the congregation came and reported this to Moses.
And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses
bade: and it did not
stink, neither was there any worm therein.
So they set it aside until morning as Moses had commanded, and it did not smell or contain any maggots.
