So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
So you shall
purge from among you the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, since you have
done what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
But if a man find a
betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
But if the man encounters a
betrothed woman in the open country, and he overpowers her and lies with her, only the man who has
done this must die.
Then shall his brother’s wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his
shoe from off his foot, and
spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be
done unto that man that will not build up his brother’s house.
his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, remove his
sandal,
spit in his face, and declare, “This is what is
done to the man who will not maintain his brother’s line.”
I have not eaten thereof in my
mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have
hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have
done according to all that thou hast commanded me.
I have not eaten any of the sacred portion while in
mourning, or removed any of it while unclean, or offered any of it for the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God; I have
done everything You commanded me.
Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
So all the nations will ask, ‘Why has the LORD
done such a thing to this land? Why this great
outburst of anger?’
And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
And on that day I will surely hide My face because of all the evil they have done by turning to other gods.
Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their
adversaries should
behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not
done all this.
if I had not
dreaded the
taunt of the enemy, lest their
adversaries misunderstand and say: ‘Our own hand has prevailed; it was not the LORD who did all this.’”
Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the
sunrising.
until the LORD gives them rest as He has done for you, and your brothers also possess the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you may return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”
And it came to pass, when they had
done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
And after all the nation had been
circumcised, they stayed there in the camp until they were
healed.
And Joshua said unto
Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast
done; hide it not from me.
So Joshua said to
Achan, “My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make a confession to Him. I
urge you to tell me what you have
done; do not hide it from me.”
And
Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have
sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I
done:
“It is true,”
Achan replied, “I have
sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I did:
And when the inhabitants of
Gibeon heard what Joshua had
done unto
Jericho and to
Ai,
But the people of
Gibeon, having heard what Joshua had
done to
Jericho and
Ai,
And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were
sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have
done this thing.
The Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land and
wipe out all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have
done this.
Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken
Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had
done to
Jericho and her king, so he had
done to
Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
Now Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured
Ai and devoted it to destruction—doing to
Ai and its king as he had
done to
Jericho and its king—and that the people of
Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living near them.
And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of
Jericho.
On that day Joshua captured Makkedah and put it to the sword, along with its king. He devoted to destruction
everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. So he did to the king of Makkedah as he had
done to the king of
Jericho.
And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he
smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of
Jericho.
And the LORD also delivered that city and its king into the hand of Israel, and Joshua put all the people to the sword, leaving no survivors. And he did to the king of
Libnah as he had
done to the king of
Jericho.
And the LORD delivered
Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had
done to
Libnah.
And the LORD delivered
Lachish into the hand of Israel, and Joshua captured it on the second day. He put all the people to the sword, just as he had
done to
Libnah.
And they took it on that day, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had
done to
Lachish.
That day they captured
Eglon and put it to the sword, and Joshua devoted to destruction
everyone in the city, just as he had
done to
Lachish.
And they took it, and
smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had
done to
Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.
They captured it and put to the sword its king, all its villages, and all the people. Joshua left no survivors, just as he had
done at
Eglon; he devoted to destruction
Hebron and
everyone in it.
And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they
smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had
done to
Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had
done also to
Libnah, and to her king.
And they captured Debir, its king, and all its villages. They put them to the sword and devoted to destruction
everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. Joshua did to Debir and its king as he had
done to
Hebron and as he had
done to
Libnah and its king.
And said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you:
and told them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and you have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.
And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?
But in fact we have done this for fear that in the future your descendants might say to ours, ‘What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.
“and you have seen everything that the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake, because it was the LORD your God who fought for you.
But
cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have
done unto this day.
Instead, you shall hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.
And when they
cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have
done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
So your fathers
cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and
engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
If ye
forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you
hurt, and
consume you, after that he hath
done you good.
If you
forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring
disaster on you and
consume you, even after He has been good to you.”
And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.
Israel had served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced all the works that the LORD had done for Israel.
And Adoni-bezek said,
Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have
done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
Then Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and
big toes cut off have gathered the scraps under my table. As I have
done to them, so God has repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, where he died.
And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
and you are not to make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall
tear down their altars.’ Yet you have not obeyed My voice. What is this you have
done?
And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.
And the people served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him, who had seen all the great works that the LORD had done for Israel.
And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
After that whole generation had also been gathered to their fathers, another generation rose up who did not know the LORD or the works that He had done for Israel.
And yet they would not
hearken unto their judges, but they went a
whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.
Israel, however, did not
listen to their judges. Instead, they
prostituted themselves with other gods and bowed down to them. They quickly turned from the way of their fathers, who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments; they did not do as their fathers had
done.
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened
Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had
done evil in the sight of the LORD.
Once again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. So He gave
Eglon king of Moab power over Israel, because they had
done evil in the sight of the LORD.
And they said one to another, Who hath
done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said,
Gideon the son of
Joash hath
done this thing.
“Who did this?” they said to one another. And after they had investigated thoroughly, they were told, “
Gideon son of
Joash did it.”
And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did
chide with him sharply.
Then the men of Ephraim said to
Gideon, “Why have you
done this to us? Why did you fail to call us when you went to fight against
Midian?” And they
contended with him violently.
And he said unto them, What have I
done now in comparison of you? Is not the
gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the
vintage of Abi-ezer?
But
Gideon answered them, “Now what have I accomplished compared to you? Are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the
grape harvest of Abiezer?
Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely,
Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
They did not show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal (that is,
Gideon) for all the good things he had
done for Israel.
Now therefore, if ye have
done truly and
sincerely, in that ye have made
Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have
done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;
Now if you have acted faithfully and
honestly in making
Abimelech king, if you have
done well by Jerubbaal and his family, and if you have
done to him as he deserves—
That the cruelty
done to the
threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon
Abimelech their brother, which
slew them; and upon the men of
Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.
in order that the crime against the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come to justice and their blood be
avenged on their brother
Abimelech and on the leaders of
Shechem, who had helped him murder his brothers.
And
Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and
Abimelech took an
axe in his hand, and cut down a
bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make
haste, and do as I have
done.
he and all his men went up to Mount Zalmon.
Abimelech took his
axe in his hand and cut a branch from the trees, which he lifted to his shoulder, saying to his men, “
Hurry and do what you have seen me do.”
Thus God rendered the wickedness of
Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in
slaying his seventy brethren:
In this way God repaid the wickedness that
Abimelech had
done to his father in murdering his seventy brothers.
Wherefore I have not
sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of
Ammon.
I have not
sinned against you, but you have
done me wrong by
waging war against me. May the LORD, the Judge, decide
today between the Israelites and the
Ammonites.”
And she said unto her father, Let this thing be
done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and
bewail my
virginity, I and my fellows.
She also said to her father, “Let me do this one thing: Let me
wander for two months through the mountains with my friends and
mourn my
virginity.”
And the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a
kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had
done.
and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him, and he
tore the lion apart with his bare hands as one would
tear a young goat. But he did not tell his father or mother what he had
done.
Then the Philistines said, Who hath
done this? And they answered,
Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
“Who did this?” the Philistines demanded. “It was
Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite,” they were told. “For his wife was given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death.
And
Samson said unto them, Though ye have
done this, yet will I be
avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
And
Samson told them, “Because you have
done this, I will not rest until I have taken
vengeance upon you.”
And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they answered, To bind
Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath
done to us.
“Why have you attacked us?” said the men of Judah. The Philistines replied, “We have come to arrest
Samson and pay him back for what he has
done to us.”
Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to
Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that thou hast
done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I
done unto them.
In
response, three thousand men of Judah went to the cave at the rock of Etam, and they asked
Samson, “Do you not
realize that the Philistines rule over us? What have you
done to us?” “I have
done to them what they did to me,” he replied.
And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth
Micah with me, and hath
hired me, and I am his priest.
“
Micah has
done this and that for me,” he replied, “and he has
hired me to be his priest.”
And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
And
everyone who saw it said, “Nothing like this has been seen or
done from the day the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt until this day. Think it over, take counsel, and speak up!”
And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?
And the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you?
And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in
array against Gibeah, as at other times.
On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites and
arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had
done before.
And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast
done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy
nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not
heretofore.
Boaz replied, “I have been made fully aware of all you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you did not know before.
Wash
thyself therefore, and
anoint thee, and put thy
raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not
thyself known unto the man, until he shall have
done eating and drinking.
Therefore wash
yourself, put on
perfume, and wear your best clothes. Go down to the
threshing floor, but do not let the man know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.
And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
When
Ruth returned to her mother-in-law,
Naomi asked her, “How did it go, my daughter?” Then
Ruth told her all that Boaz had
done for her.
And the man said unto
Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there
done, my son?
“I have just come from the battle,” the man said to
Eli. “I fled from there
today.” “What happened, my son?”
Eli asked.
And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath
done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that
smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.
but keep watching it. If it goes up the road to its homeland, toward Beth-shemesh, it is the LORD who has brought on us this great
disaster. But if it does not, then we will know that it was not His hand that punished us and that it happened by chance.”
According to all the works which they have
done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day,
wherewith they have
forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
Just as they have
done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day,
forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
And he took a yoke of oxen, and
hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying,
Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be
done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces, and sent them by messengers throughout the land of Israel,
proclaiming, “This is what will be
done to the oxen of
anyone who does not march behind Saul and Samuel.” Then the terror of the LORD fell upon the people, and they turned out as one man.
Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
Now present
yourselves, so that I may
confront you before the LORD with all the righteous acts He has
done for you and your fathers.
Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send
thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have
done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is it not the wheat harvest
today? I will call on the LORD to send
thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
“Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “Even though you have committed all this evil, do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
Above all, fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.
And Samuel said, What hast thou
done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at
Michmash;
“What have you
done?” Samuel asked. And Saul replied, “When I saw that the troops were deserting me, and that you did not come at the appointed time and the Philistines were gathering at
Michmash,
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast
done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
“You have acted
foolishly,” Samuel declared. “You have not kept the command that the LORD your God gave you; if you had, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.
Then Saul said to
Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast
done. And
Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.
“Tell me what you have
done,” Saul commanded him. So
Jonathan told him, “I only tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must die?”
And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be
done to the man that killeth this
Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this
uncircumcised Philistine, that he should
defy the armies of the living God?
David asked the men who were standing with him, “What will be
done for the man who kills this
Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Just who is this
uncircumcised Philistine, that he should
defy the armies of the living God?”
And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
The people told him about the offer, saying, “That is what will be done for the man who kills him.”
And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
“What have I done now?” said David. “Was it not just a question?”
So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to
Ramah, and told him all that Saul had
done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.
So David ran away and escaped. And he went to Samuel at
Ramah and told him all that Saul had
done to him. Then he and Samuel went to Naioth and stayed there.
And David fled from Naioth in
Ramah, and came and said before
Jonathan, What have I
done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
Then David fled from Naioth in
Ramah. He came to
Jonathan and asked, “What have I
done? What is my iniquity? How have I
sinned against your father, that he wants to take my life?”
And
Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he
done?
“Why must he be put to death?”
Jonathan replied. “What has he
done?”
So
Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was
grieved for David, because his father had
done him shame.
Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger and did not eat any food that second day of the month, for he was
grieved by his father’s shameful treatment of David.
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.
When a man finds his enemy, does he let him go away
unharmed? May the LORD reward you with good for what you have
done for me this day.
And it shall come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;
When the LORD has done for my lord all the good He promised, and when He has appointed you ruler over Israel,
This thing is not good that thou hast
done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD’S
anointed. And now see where the king’s
spear is, and the
cruse of water that was at his
bolster.
This thing you have
done is not good. As surely as the LORD lives, all of you deserve to die, since you did not protect your lord, the LORD’s
anointed. Now look around. Where are the king’s
spear and water
jug that were by his head?”
And he said, Wherefore
doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I
done? or what evil is in mine hand?
And he continued, “Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand?
Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have
stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men,
cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from
abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.
Now please, may my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the LORD has
stirred you up against me, then may He accept an offering. But if men have
done it, may they be
cursed in the presence of the LORD! For
today they have driven me away from sharing in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath
done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a
snare for my life, to cause me to die?
But the woman replied, “Surely you know what Saul has
done, how he has killed the mediums and spiritists in the land. Why have you set a
trap to get me killed?”
And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
He has
done exactly what He spoke through me: The LORD has
torn the
kingship out of your hand and given it to your
neighbor David.
Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.
Because you did not obey the LORD or carry out His burning anger against Amalek, the LORD has
done this to you
today.
And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
“But what have I
done?” David replied. “What have you found against your servant, from the day I came to you until
today, to keep me from going along to fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
And when the inhabitants of
Jabesh-
gilead heard of that which the Philistines had
done to Saul;
When the people of
Jabesh-
gilead heard what the Philistines had
done to Saul,
And now the LORD
shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have
done this thing.
Now may the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness, and I will also show you the same favor because you have done this.
Then
Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou
done? behold,
Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?
So
Joab went to the king and said, “What have you
done? Look,
Abner came to you. Why did you dismiss him? Now he is getting away!
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you.
For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
For the sake of Your word and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and revealed it to Your servant.
And when the
mourning was past, David sent and
fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had
done displeased the LORD.
And when the time of
mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had
done was evil in the sight of the LORD.
And David’s anger was greatly
kindled against the man; and he said to
Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath
done this thing shall surely die:
David burned with anger against the man and said to
Nathan: “As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!
And he shall restore the lamb
fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no
pity.
Because he has
done this thing and has shown no
pity, he must pay for the lamb four times over.”
Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast
done? thou
didst fast and
weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou
didst rise and eat bread.
“What is this you have
done?” his servants asked. “While the child was alive, you fasted and
wept, but when he died, you got up and
ate.”
And she answered him,
Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be
done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
“No, my brother!” she
cried. “Do not
humiliate me, for such a thing should never be
done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing!
And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou
didst unto me. But he would not
hearken unto her.
“No,” she replied, “sending me away is worse than this great wrong you have already
done to me!” But he refused to
listen to her.
To
fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant
Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
Joab your servant has
done this to bring about this change of affairs, but my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that happens in the land.”
And the king said unto
Joab, Behold now, I have
done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man
Absalom again.
Then the king said to
Joab, “I
hereby grant this request. Go, bring back the young man
Absalom.”
And lo
Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and
Abiathar went up, until all the people had
done passing out of the city.
Zadok was also there, and all the Levites with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and
Abiathar offered sacrifices until the people had passed out of the city.
And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him
curse, because the LORD hath said unto him,
Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou
done so?
But the king replied, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he curses me because the LORD told him, ‘
Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why did you do this?’”
And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the
concubine of Saul, had
done.
When David was told what Saul’s
concubine Rizpah, daughter of Aiah, had
done,
And the bones of Saul and
Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the
sepulchre of
Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.
And they buried the bones of Saul and his son
Jonathan in Zela in the land of Benjamin, in the tomb of Saul’s father
Kish. After they had
done everything the king had commanded, God answered their prayers for the land.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a
valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had
done many acts, he
slew two
lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and
slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of
valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of Moab, and on a
snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
