And it came to pass,
whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the
eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
Whenever the stronger females of the flock were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs, in full view of the animals, so that they would breed in front of the branches.
And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine
eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which
leaped upon the cattle were
ringstraked,
speckled, and
grisled.
When the flocks were breeding, I saw in a dream that the
streaked,
spotted, and

Then you told your servants, ‘Bring him down to me so that I can see him for myself.’

eyes? For our funds have run out!”
Wherefore shall we die before thine
eyes, both we and our land?
buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not
desolate.
Why should we perish before your
eyes—we and our land as well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become
desolate.”

abhorred in the
eyes of Pharaoh, and in the
eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to
slay us.
“May the LORD look upon you and judge you,” the
foremen said, “for you have made us a
stench before Pharaoh and his officials; you have placed in their hand a sword to kill us!”
And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians before their
eyes, and will they not stone us?
But Moses replied, “It would not be right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be
detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are
detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a
memorial between thine
eyes, that the LORD’S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.
It shall be a sign for you on your hand and a reminder on your
forehead that the Law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For with a mighty hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.
And it shall be for a
token upon thine hand, and for
frontlets between thine
eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.
So it shall serve as a sign on your hand and a symbol on your
forehead, for with a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.”

And said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and
wilt do that which is right in his sight, and
wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will

eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
If she please not her master, who hath
betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt
deceitfully with her.
If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who had designated her for himself, he must allow her to be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, since he has broken faith with her.
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
And if a man
smite the
eye of his servant, or the
eye of his
maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his
eye’s sake.
If a man strikes and blinds the
eye of his
manservant or
maidservant, he must let the servant go free as compensation for the
eye.

devouring fire on the top of the mount in the
eyes of the children of Israel.

And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance, and the thing be
hid from the
eyes of the assembly, and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done, and are guilty;
Now if the whole congregation of Israel strays
unintentionally and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly so that they
violate any of the LORD’s commandments and
incur guilt by doing what is forbidden,
But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall
shave all his hair off his head and his
beard and his
eyebrows, even all his hair he shall
shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in water, and he shall be clean.
On the seventh day he must
shave off all his hair—his head, his
beard, his
eyebrows, and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and
bathe himself with water, and he will be clean.
And if the people of the land do any ways hide their
eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto
Molech, and kill him not:
And if the people of the land ever hide their
eyes and fail to put to death the man who gives one of his children to
Molech,
Breach for breach,
eye for
eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a
blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.
fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Just as he injured the other person, the same must be inflicted on him.
I also will do this unto you; I will even
appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning
ague, that shall
consume the
eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall
sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
then this is what I will do to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting disease, and fever that will destroy your sight and
drain your life. You will
sow your seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
And a man lie with her
carnally, and it be
hid from the
eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be
defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;
by sleeping with another man, and it is concealed from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she was not caught in the act),
And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee;
forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to
encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of
eyes.
“Please do not leave us,” Moses said, “since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our eyes.
But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this
manna, before our
eyes.
But now our
appetite is gone; there is nothing to see but this
manna!”
And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my
wretchedness.
If this is how You are going to treat me, please kill me right now—if I have found favor in Your
eyes—and let me not see my own
wretchedness.”
And it shall be unto you for a
fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own
eyes, after which ye use to go a
whoring:
These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the commandments of the LORD, that you may obey them and not
prostitute yourselves by following your own heart and your own
eyes.
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards:
wilt thou put out the
eyes of these men? we will not come up.
Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you
gouge out the
eyes of these men? No, we will not come!”
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
“Take the staff and
assemble the congregation. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will pour out its water. You will bring out water from the rock and provide drink for the congregation and their
livestock.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to
sanctify me in the
eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust Me to show My
holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”
Then the LORD opened the
eyes of
Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
Then the LORD opened
Balaam’s
eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. And
Balaam bowed low and fell facedown.
And
Balaam lifted up his
eyes, and he saw Israel
abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
When
Balaam looked up and saw Israel
encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came upon him,
And he took up his parable, and said,
Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose
eyes are open hath said:
and he lifted up an
oracle, saying: “This is the prophecy of
Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose
eyes are open,
He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the
Almighty, falling into a
trance, but having his
eyes open:
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the
Almighty, who bows down with
eyes wide open:
And he took up his parable, and said,
Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose
eyes are open hath said:
Then
Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying, “This is the prophecy of
Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose
eyes are open,
He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the
Almighty, falling into a
trance, but having his
eyes open:
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the
Almighty, who bows down with
eyes wide open:
For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the
strife of the congregation, to
sanctify me at the water before their
eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.
for when the congregation
contended in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My
holiness in their sight regarding the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah in Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin.
But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your
eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall
vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.
But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your
eyes and thorns in your sides; they will
harass you in the land where you settle.
The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
The LORD your God, who goes before you, will fight for you, just as you saw Him do for you in Egypt
And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine
eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms
whither thou passest.
And at that time I commanded Joshua: “Your own eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings. The LORD will do the same to all the kingdoms you are about to enter.
Get thee up into the top of
Pisgah, and lift up thine
eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine
eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
Go to the top of
Pisgah and look to the west and north and south and east. See the land with your own
eyes, for you will not cross this Jordan.
Your
eyes have seen what the LORD did because of
Baal-peor: for all the men that followed
Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.
Your
eyes have seen what the LORD did at
Baal-peor, for the LORD your God destroyed from among you all who followed
Baal of Peor.
Only take
heed to
thyself, and keep thy soul
diligently, lest thou
forget the things which thine
eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
Only be on your guard and
diligently watch
yourselves, so that you do not
forget the things your
eyes have seen, and so that they do not slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and grandchildren.
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
When you look to the heavens and see the sun and moon and stars—all the host of heaven—do not be
enticed to bow down and worship what the LORD your God has
apportioned to all the nations under heaven.
Or hath God
assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your
eyes?
Or has any god tried to take as his own a nation out of another nation—by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors—as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as
frontlets between thine
eyes.
Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and
sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our
eyes:
Before our
eyes the LORD inflicted great and
devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his household.
And thou shalt
consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine
eye shall have no
pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a
snare unto thee.
You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God will deliver to you. Do not look on them with
pity. Do not worship their gods, for that will be a
snare to you.
The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.
the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, and the mighty hand and outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and
brake them before your
eyes.
So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands,
shattering them before your
eyes.
He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.
He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and
awesome wonders that your
eyes have seen.
But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.
For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.
A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.
It is a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning to the end of the year.
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as
frontlets between your
eyes.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds;
tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man
whatsoever is right in his own
eyes.
You are not to do as we are doing here
today, where
everyone does what seems right in his own
eyes.
Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
Be careful to obey all these things I command you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor
hearken unto him; neither shall thine
eye pity him, neither shalt thou
spare, neither shalt thou
conceal him:
you must not yield to him or
listen to him. Show him no
pity, and do not
spare him or shield him.
When thou shalt
hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the
eyes of the LORD thy God.
because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all His commandments I am giving you
today and doing what is right in the
eyes of the LORD your God.
Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut
yourselves, nor make any
baldness between your
eyes for the dead.
You are sons of the LORD your God; do not cut
yourselves or
shave your foreheads on behalf of the dead,
Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine
eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him
nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
Be careful not to
harbor this wicked thought in your heart: “The seventh year, the year of release, is near,” so that you look upon your poor brother begrudgingly and give him nothing. He will cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
Thou shalt not
wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift
doth blind the
eyes of the wise, and

You must show him no
pity. You are to
purge from Israel the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, that it may go well with you.
