And their brethren, heads of the house of their
fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and
threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of
Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his
father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their
fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry.
Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of
Korah, and his relatives from the Korahites were assigned to guard the thresholds of the Tent, just as their
fathers had been assigned to guard the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.
Those who were musicians, the heads of
Levite families, stayed in the temple chambers and were
exempt from other duties because they were on duty day and night.
These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.
All these were heads of
Levite families, chiefs according to their
genealogies, and they lived in Jerusalem.
And in
Gibeon dwelt the
father of
Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife’s name was Maachah:
And Mikloth
begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren.

father of Shimeam. They too lived
alongside their relatives in Jerusalem.
Ner was the
father of
Kish,

father of Saul, and Saul was the
father of
Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-
baal.

father of Jarah; Jarah was the
father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the
father of Moza.
And Moza
begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
Moza was the father of Binea. Rephaiah was his son, Elasah his son, and Azel his son.
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our
fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our
fathers see it and judge you.”
And
Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his
father’s house twenty and two captains.
and
Zadok, a mighty young man of
valor, with 22 commanders from his own family.
And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous throughout the house of their fathers.

begat more sons and daughters.

And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the
fathers of the Levites:
sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
And he said to them, “You are the heads of the
Levitical families. You and your relatives must
consecrate yourselves so that you may bring the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
And it shall come to pass, when thy days be
expired that thou must go to be with thy
fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled and you go to be with your
fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. And I will never remove My loving devotion from him as I removed it from your predecessor.
And David said, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his
father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his
father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of
Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his
father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to
console Hanun concerning his
father. But when David’s servants arrived in the land of the
Ammonites to
console him,
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy
father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your
father? Have not his servants come to you to
explore the land,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my
father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my
father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.
He is the one who will build a house for My Name. He will be My son, and I will be his
Father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel
forever.’
The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and
Haran, three. These were the chief of the
fathers of Laadan.
The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and
Haran—three in all. These were the heads of the families of Ladan.
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one
reckoning, according to their
father’s house.
Jahath was the first and Zizah was the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as one family and received a single
assignment.
These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.
These were the descendants of Levi by their families—the heads of families, registered individually by name—those twenty years of age or older who worked in the service of the house of the LORD.
But
Nadab and
Abihu died before their
father, and had no children: therefore
Eleazar and
Ithamar executed the priest’s office.
And there were more chief men found of the sons of
Eleazar than of the sons of
Ithamar; and thus were they divided. Among the sons of
Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their
fathers, and eight among the sons of
Ithamar according to the house of their
fathers.
Since more leaders were found among
Eleazar’s descendants than those of
Ithamar, they were divided accordingly. There were sixteen heads of families from the descendants of
Eleazar and eight from the descendants of
Ithamar.
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and
Zadok the priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the
fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for
Eleazar, and one taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers:
Zadok the priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—one family being taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him.
This was their appointed order for service when they entered the house of the LORD, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their
forefather Aaron, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him.
The sons also of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after the house of their fathers.
And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites, according to their families.
These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and
Zadok, and
Ahimelech, and the chief of the
fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal
fathers over against their younger brethren.
As their brothers the descendants of Aaron did, they also cast lots in the presence of King David and of
Zadok,
Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priests and Levites—the family heads and their younger brothers alike.
From the sons of
Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah—six in all—under the direction of their
father Jeduthun, who
prophesied with the
harp, giving
thanks and praise to the LORD.
All these were under the hands of their
father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals,
psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to
Asaph,
Jeduthun, and Heman.
All these were under the direction of their
fathers for the music of the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God.
Asaph,
Jeduthun, and Heman were under the direction of the king.
Also unto Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.
Also to his son Shemaiah were born sons who ruled over their families because they were strong, capable men.
Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the
firstborn, yet his
father made him the chief;)
Hosah the Merarite also had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the
firstborn, his
father had appointed him as the first),
And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.
They cast lots for each gate, according to their families, young and old alike.
As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.
From the descendants of Ladan, who were Gershonites through Ladan and heads of the families of Ladan the Gershonite, were Jehieli,
Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.
This Shelomith and his brothers were in charge of all the
treasuries for the things dedicated by King David, by the heads of families who were the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and by the army commanders.
Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his
fathers. In the
fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of
Gilead.
As for the Hebronites, Jerijah was the chief of the Hebronites, according to the
genealogies of his ancestors. In the
fortieth year of David’s reign the records were searched, and strong, capable men were found among the Hebronites at Jazer in
Gilead.
And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief
fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of
Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.
Among Jerijah’s relatives there were 2,700 capable men who were heads of families. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and to the affairs of the king.
Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.
This is the list of the Israelites—the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter concerning the divisions on
rotating military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 men in each division:
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my
father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my
father; and among the sons of my
father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my
father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my
father’s household, and from my
father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy
father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your
father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly,
Then the leaders of the households, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.
Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
Then David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly and said: “May You be blessed, O LORD, God of our
father Israel, from
everlasting to
everlasting.
For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our
fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none
abiding.
For we are foreigners and strangers in Your presence, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.
O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
O LORD, God of our
fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this desire
forever in the intentions of the hearts of Your people, and direct their hearts toward You.
And David said to all the congregation, Now
bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their
fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD, and the king.
Then David said to the whole assembly, “Blessed be the LORD your God.” So the whole assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their
fathers. They bowed down and paid
homage to the LORD and to the king.
Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his
father, and
prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of his
father David. He
prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.
Then Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to every leader in all Israel—the heads of the families.
And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my
father, and hast made me to reign in his
stead.
Solomon replied to God: “You have shown much loving devotion to my father David, and You have made me king in his place.
Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
Now, O LORD God, let Your promise to my father David be fulfilled. For You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my
father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
Then Solomon sent word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my
father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
Send me now therefore a man
cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and
crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the
cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my
father did provide.
Send me, therefore, a
craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple,
crimson, and blue yarn. He will work with my
craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my
father David provided.
And now I have sent a
cunning man,
endued with understanding, of Huram my
father’s,
So now I am sending you Huram-abi, a skillful man endowed with creativity.
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his
father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy
father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his
father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your
father David.
And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering
wherewith David his
father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount
Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his
father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount
Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his
father David. This was the place that David had prepared on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his
father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the
fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
But the LORD said to David my
father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine heart:
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my
father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
Then hear thou from the heavens, and
forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their
fathers.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your people Israel. May You restore them to the land You gave to them and their
fathers.
That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
so that they may fear You and walk in Your ways all the days they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their
fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their
fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the
fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the
fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the
fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
And as for thee, if thou
wilt walk before me, as David thy
father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
And as for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, doing all I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,
Then will I
stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy
father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the LORD God of their
fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD, the God of their
fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And he appointed, according to the order of David his
father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And Solomon
slept with his
fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his
father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And Solomon rested with his
fathers and was buried in the city of his
father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his place.
Thy
father made our yoke
grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the
grievous servitude of thy
father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
“Your
father put a heavy yoke on us. But now you should
lighten the burden of your
father’s service and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
And king
Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his
father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
Then King
Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his
father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your
father put on us’?”
And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your
father made our yoke heavy, but you should make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my
father’s
waist!
For whereas my
father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my
father chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions.
Whereas my
father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my
father scourged you with whips, I will
scourge you with scorpions.’”
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My
father made your yoke heavy, but I will add
thereto: my
father chastised you with whips, but I will
chastise you with scorpions.
and spoke to them as the young men had
advised, saying, “Whereas my
father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my
father scourged you with whips, I will
scourge you with scorpions.”
And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.
Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of
Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and
threescore concubines; and
begat twenty and eight sons, and
threescore daughters.)
Rehoboam loved
Maacah daughter of
Absalom more than all his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the
father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
And
Rehoboam rested with his
fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Abijah reigned in his place.
And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding
trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your
fathers; for ye shall not
prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is with us as our head, and His priests with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your
fathers, for you will not succeed.”
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they
relied upon the LORD God of their
fathers.
Thus the Israelites were subdued at that time, and the men of Judah prevailed because they
relied on the LORD, the God of their
fathers.
But
Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and
begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
But
Abijah grew strong, married fourteen wives, and became the
father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.
So
Abijah slept with his
fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in his
stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Then
Abijah rested with his
fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Asa reigned in his place, and in his days the land was at peace for ten years.
And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
He commanded the people of Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandments.
And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
And he brought into the house of God the silver and gold articles that he and his father had dedicated.
There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my
father and thy
father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with
Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my
father and your
father. See, I have sent you silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with
Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.”
And
Asa slept with his
fathers, and died in the one and

Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his

These are their numbers according to the houses of their
fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of
valor;
And
Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-

Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and once again he went out among the people from
Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them back to the LORD, the God of their
fathers.
Moreover in Jerusalem did
Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the

controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
Moreover,
Jehoshaphat appointed in Jerusalem some of the Levites, priests, and heads of the
Israelite families to judge on behalf of the LORD and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem.
