Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and
defiled his neighbour’s wife,
though the
father has done none of them: Indeed, the son eats at the mountain and defiles his
neighbor’s wife.
Now, lo, if he
beget a son, that
seeth all his
father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
Now suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, considers them, and does not do likewise:
That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received
usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his
father, he shall surely live.
He withholds his hand from
harming the poor and takes no interest or
usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his
father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
As for his
father, because he cruelly
oppressed,
spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
As for his
father, he will die for his own iniquity, because he practiced
extortion,
robbed his brother, and did what was wrong among his people.
Yet say ye, Why?
doth not the son bear the iniquity of the
father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Yet you may ask, ‘Why shouldn’t the son bear the iniquity of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right, carefully observing all My statutes, he will surely live.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.
Wilt thou judge them, son of man,
wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their
fathers:
Will you judge them, will you judge them, son of man?
Confront them with the abominations of their
fathers But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your
fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor
defile yourselves with their idols:
In the wilderness I said to their children: ‘Do not walk in the statutes of your
fathers or keep their ordinances or
defile yourselves with their idols.
Because they had not executed my judgments, but had
despised my statutes, and had
polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their
fathers’ idols.
For they did not practice My ordinances, but they rejected My statutes and
profaned My Sabbaths, fixing their eyes on the idols of their
fathers.
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your
fathers have
blasphemed me, in that they have committed a
trespass against me.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: In this way also your
fathers blasphemed Me by their unfaithfulness against Me.
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye
polluted after the manner of your
fathers? and commit ye
whoredom after their abominations?
Like as I
pleaded with your
fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I
plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.
Just as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord GOD.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land that I
swore to give your
fathers.
In thee have they set light by
father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they
vexed the
fatherless and the widow.
Father and mother are treated with contempt. Within your walls the foreign resident is exploited, the
fatherless and the widow are
oppressed.
In thee have they discovered their
fathers’ nakedness: in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for
pollution.
In you they have uncovered the nakedness of their
fathers; in you they
violate women during their
menstrual impurity.
And one hath committed
abomination with his neighbour’s wife; and another hath
lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his
father’s daughter.
One man commits an
abomination with his
neighbor’s wife; another wickedly defiles his daughter-in-law; and yet another
violates his sister, his own
father’s daughter.
And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
Then you will live in the land that I gave your forefathers; you will be My people, and I will be your God.
And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.
They will live in the land that I gave to My servant Jacob, where your
fathers lived. They will live there
forever with their children and grandchildren, and My servant David will be their prince
forever.
And they shall come at no dead person to
defile themselves: but for
father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may
defile themselves.
A priest must not
defile himself by going near a dead person. However, for a
father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, or an unmarried sister, he may do so,
And ye shall
inherit it, one as well as another: concerning the which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your
fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance.
You are to divide it equally among them. Because I
swore with an
uplifted hand to give it to your forefathers, this land will fall to you as an inheritance.
I
thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my
fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.
To You, O God of my
fathers, I give
thanks and praise, because You have given me wisdom and power. And now You have made known to me what we have requested, for You have made known to us the dream of the king.”
Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his
father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
Under the influence of the wine,
Belshazzar gave orders to bring in the gold and silver vessels that
Nebuchadnezzar his
father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king could drink from them, along with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines.
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy
father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy
father, the king, I say, thy
father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your
father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your
father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own
father, the king,
Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my
father brought out of
Jewry?
So Daniel was brought before the king, who asked him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah?
O thou king, the most high God gave
Nebuchadnezzar thy
father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
As for you, O king, the Most High God gave your
father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness, glory and honor.
Neither have we
hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our
fathers, and to all the people of the land.
We have not
listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, and
fathers, and to all the people of the land.
O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our
fathers, because we have
sinned against thee.
O LORD, we are covered with shame—our kings, our leaders, and our
fathers—because we have
sinned against You.
O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I
beseech thee, let thine anger and thy
fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the
iniquities of our
fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.
O Lord, in keeping with all Your righteous acts, I pray that Your anger and wrath may turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; for because of our sins and the
iniquities of our
fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all around us.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. But his daughter will not retain her position of power, nor will his strength
endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her
father and the one who supported her.
He shall enter
peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his
fathers have not done, nor his
fathers’
fathers; he shall
scatter among them the prey, and
spoil, and riches:
yea, and he shall
forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
In a time of peace, he will
invade the richest provinces and do what his
fathers and forefathers never did. He will
lavish plunder,
loot, and wealth on his followers, and he will plot against the strongholds—but only for a time.
Neither shall he regard the God of his
fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall
magnify himself above all.
He will show no regard for the gods of his
fathers, nor for the one desired by women, nor for any other god, because he will
magnify himself above them all.
But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
And in their place, he will honor a god of fortresses—a god his fathers did not know—with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your
fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to
Baal-peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your
fathers as the firstfruits of the fig tree in its first season. But they went to
Baal-peor, and consecrated themselves to Shame; so they became as
detestable as the thing they loved.
Asshur shall not save us; we will not
ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the
fatherless findeth mercy.
Assyria will not save us, nor will we
ride on horses. We will never again say, ‘Our gods!’ to the work of our own hands. For in You the
fatherless find
compassion.”
Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
Hear this, O elders; and give ear, all who dwell in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your fathers?
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to
err, after the which their
fathers have walked:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Judah, even four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they
reject the Law of the LORD and fail to keep His statutes; they are led
astray by the lies in which their
fathers walked.
That
pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the
meek: and a man and his
father will go in unto the same
maid, to
profane my holy name:
They
trample on the heads of the poor as on the dust of the earth; they
push the
needy out of their way. A man and his
father have relations with the same
girl and so
profane My holy name.
For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.
For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies are the members of his own household.
Thou
wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast
sworn unto our
fathers from the days of old.
You will show faithfulness to Jacob and loving devotion to Abraham, as You
swore to our
fathers from the days of old.
The LORD hath been
sore displeased with your
fathers.
“The LORD was very
angry with your
fathers.
Be ye not as your
fathers, unto whom the former prophets have
cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor
hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
Do not be like your
fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Turn now from your evil ways and deeds.’ But they did not
listen or pay attention to Me, declares the LORD.
Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
Where are your
fathers now? And the prophets, do they live
forever?
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your
fathers? They
repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’”
And
oppress not the widow, nor the
fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
Do not
oppress the widow or the
fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. And do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’
For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to
punish you, when your
fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I
repented not:
For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Just as I resolved to bring
disaster upon you when your
fathers provoked Me to anger, and I did not relent,” says the LORD of Hosts,
And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet
prophesy, then his
father and his mother that
begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his
father and his mother that
begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.
And if
anyone still prophesies, his
father and mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You shall not remain alive, because you have spoken falsely in the name of the LORD.’ When he prophesies, his
father and mother who bore him will
pierce him through.
A son honoureth his
father, and a servant his master: if then I be a
father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that
despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we
despised thy name?
“A son honors his
father, and a servant his master. But if I am a
father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is your fear of Me?” says the LORD of Hosts to you priests who
despise My name. “But you ask, ‘How have we
despised Your name?’
Have we not all one
father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal
treacherously every man against his brother, by
profaning the covenant of our
fathers?
Do we not all have one
Father? Did not one God
create us? Why then do we break faith with one another so as to
profane the covenant of our
fathers?
And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that
oppress the
hireling in his wages, the widow, and the
fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment. And I will be a swift witness against sorcerers and adulterers and perjurers, against oppressors of the widowed and
fatherless, and against those who
defraud laborers of their wages and deny justice to the foreigner but do not fear Me,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
Yet from the days of your fathers, you have turned away from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD of Hosts. “But you ask, ‘How can we return?’
And he shall turn the heart of the
fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their
fathers, lest I come and
smite the earth with a
curse.
And he will turn the hearts of the
fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their
fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a
curse.”
Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
Judah was the

And Ezekias

begat Josias;
And Josias
begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
and
Josiah the
father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias
begat Salathiel; and Salathiel
begat Zorobabel;
After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the
father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the
father of
Zerubbabel,
And Zorobabel
begat Abiud; and Abiud
begat Eliakim; and Eliakim
begat Azor;
Zerubbabel the
father of Abiud, Abiud the
father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the
father of Azor.
Azor was the

father of Matthan, Matthan the
father of Jacob,
And Jacob
begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
But when he heard that
Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his
father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being
warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of
Galilee:
But when he learned that
Archelaus was reigning in
Judea in place of his
father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And having been
warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of
Galilee,
And think not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our
father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
And do not
presume to say to
yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our
father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their
father,
mending their nets; and he called them.
Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their
father Zebedee,
mending their nets. Jesus called them,
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.
Let your light so
shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your
Father which is in heaven.
In the same way, let your light
shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your
Father in heaven.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Take
heed that ye do not your
alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your
Father which is in heaven.
“Be careful not to perform your righteous acts before men to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
That thine
alms may be in secret: and thy
Father which
seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy
closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy
Father which is in secret; and thy
Father which
seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our
Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our
Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
For if ye
forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly
Father will also
forgive you:
For if you
forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly
Father will also
forgive you.
But if ye
forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your
Father forgive your trespasses.
But if you do not
forgive men their trespasses, neither will your
Father forgive yours.
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy
Father which is in secret: and thy
Father, which
seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Behold the fowls of the air: for they
sow not, neither do they
reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly
Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Look at the birds of the air: They do not
sow or
reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly
Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
For the Gentiles
strive after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them.
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Not
everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My
Father in heaven.
And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and
bury my
father.
Another of His disciples requested, “Lord, first let me go and
bury my
father.”
For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
Brother will
betray brother to death, and a
father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death.
Are not two sparrows sold for a
farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your
Father.
Are not two sparrows sold for a
penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your
Father.
Therefore
everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also
confess him before My
Father in heaven.
But
whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my
Father which is in heaven.
But
whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My
Father in heaven.
For I am come to set a man at
variance against his
father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Anyone who loves his
father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me;
anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me;
At that time Jesus answered and said, I
thank thee, O
Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast
hid these things from the wise and
prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Yes,
Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
All things are delivered unto me of my
Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the
Father; neither knoweth any man the
Father, save the Son, and he to
whomsoever the Son will
reveal him.
All things have been entrusted to Me by My
Father. No one knows the Son except the
Father, and no one knows the
Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to
reveal Him.
For
whosoever shall do the will of my
Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
For
whoever does the will of My
Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”
Then shall the righteous
shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their
Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Then the righteous will
shine like the sun in the kingdom of their
Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
For God said, ‘Honor your
father and mother’ and ‘
Anyone who curses his
father or mother must be put to death.’
But ye say,
Whosoever shall say to his
father or his mother, It is a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
But you say that if
anyone says to his
father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have received from me is a gift devoted to God,’
