besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an
axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:
When you lay siege to a city for an extended time while
fighting against it to capture it, you must not destroy its trees by putting an

besiege them?

Jephthah, “This is why we now turn to you, that you may go with us,
fight the
Ammonites, and become leader over all of us who live in
Gilead.”
And
Jephthah said unto the elders of
Gilead, If ye bring me home again to
fight against the children of
Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
But
Jephthah asked them, “If you take me back to
fight the
Ammonites and the LORD gives them to me, will I really be your leader?”

today to
fight against me?”

Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” “I am deeply distressed,” replied Saul. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?

fight them on the plains; surely then we will prevail.
And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and
chariot for
chariot: and we will
fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he
hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
And you must raise an army like the one you have lost—horse for horse and
chariot for
chariot—so we can
fight the Israelites on the plain, where we will surely prevail.” And the king approved their plan and acted accordingly.

fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out and face them
tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of
Ahab king of Israel to war against
Hazael king of Syria at
Ramoth-
gilead: and the Syrians
smote Joram.
But if thou
wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
Even if you go and
fight bravely in battle, God will make you
stumble before the enemy, for God has power to help and power to overthrow.”
Moreover Uzziah had an host of
fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
Uzziah had an army ready for battle that went out to war by assigned divisions, as recorded by Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the royal officers.
And when
Hezekiah saw that
Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to
fight against Jerusalem,
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to
fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to
fight our battles.” So the people were strengthened by the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
After all this, when
Josiah had prepared the temple,
Necho king of Egypt came up to
fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and
Josiah went out against him.
After all this, when
Josiah had set the temple in order, Neco king of Egypt marched up to
fight at Carchemish by the Euphrates, and
Josiah went out to
confront him.
But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house
wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make
haste:
forbear thee from
meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “What is the issue between you and me, O king of Judah? I have not come against you
today, but I am
fighting another dynasty. God told me to
hurry; so stop
opposing God, who is with me, or He will destroy you!”
Nevertheless
Josiah would not turn his face from him, but
disguised himself, that he might
fight with him, and
hearkened not unto the words of
Necho from the mouth of God, and came to
fight in the valley of
Megiddo.
Josiah, however, did not turn away from him; instead, in order to
engage him in battle, he
disguised himself. He did not
listen to Neco’s words from the mouth of God, but went to
fight him on the Plain of
Megiddo.
