four leaves, he cut it with the
penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the
hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the
hearth.

torn their garments, and cut themselves came from
Shechem,
Shiloh, and Samaria, carrying grain offerings and
frankincense for the house of the LORD.

And upon
Elam will I bring the
four winds from the
four quarters of heaven, and will
scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation
whither the outcasts of
Elam shall not come.
I will bring the
four winds against
Elam from the
four corners of the heavens, and I will
scatter them to all these winds. There will not be a nation to which
Elam’s exiles will not go.

fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was
sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.

And concerning the pillars, the height of one
pillar was eighteen cubits; and a
fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness thereof was
four fingers: it was hollow.
Each
pillar was eighteen cubits tall and twelve cubits in circumference; each was hollow,
four fingers thick.

captive of the Jews seven hundred forty and five persons: all the persons were
four thousand and six hundred.

Now it came to pass in the
thirtieth year, in the
fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the
captives by the river of
Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
In the
thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the
fourth month, while I was among the exiles by the River Kebar, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God.
Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
and within it was the form of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: They had a human form,
And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.
but each had four faces and four wings.
And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.
Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. All four living creatures had faces and wings,
As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
The form of their faces was that of a man, and each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and also the face of an eagle.
Now as I
beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his
four faces.
When I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.
The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a
beryl: and they
four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.
When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.
As they moved, they went in any of the
four directions, without
pivoting as they moved.
As for their rings, they were so high that they were
dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them
four.
Their rims were high and
awesome, and all
four rims were full of eyes all around.
Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.
“O son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: ‘The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.
And when I looked, behold the
four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one
cherub, and another wheel by another
cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a
beryl stone.
And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel.
As for their appearance, all four had the same form, like a wheel within a wheel.
When they went, they went upon their
four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place
whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went.
When they moved, they would go in any of the
four directions, without turning as they moved. For wherever the head faced, the
cherubim would go in that direction, without turning as they moved.
And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had.
Their entire bodies, including their backs, hands, and wings, were full of eyes all around, as were their four wheels.
And every one had
four faces: the first face was the face of a
cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the
fourth the face of an eagle.
Each of the
cherubim had
four faces: the first face was that of a
cherub, the second that of a man, the third that of a lion, and the
fourth that of an eagle.
Every one had
four faces
apiece, and every one
four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings.
Each had four faces and four wings, with what looked like human hands under their wings.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my
four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the
noisome beast, and the
pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem My
four dire judgments—sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague—in order to cut off from it both man and beast?
Then said he unto me,
Prophesy unto the wind,
prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the
four winds, O breath, and
breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
Then He said to me, “
Prophesy to the breath;
prophesy, son of man, and tell the breath that this is what the Lord GOD says: Come from the
four winds, O breath, and
breathe into these slain, so that they may live!”
In the five and
twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the
fourteenth year after that the city was
smitten, in the
selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.
In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month—in the
fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been struck down—on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He took me there.
Four tables were on this side, and
four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables,
whereupon they
slew their sacrifices.
So there were
four tables inside the
gateway and
four outside—eight tables in all—on which the sacrifices were to be slaughtered.
And the
four tables were of
hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a
cubit and an half long, and a
cubit and an half broad, and one
cubit high:
whereupon also they laid the instruments
wherewith they
slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
There were also
four tables of dressed stone for the burnt offering, each a
cubit and a half long, a
cubit and a half wide, and a
cubit high. On these were placed the utensils used to slaughter the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.
So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad,
foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.
Next he measured the court. It was square, a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.
And he brought me to the
porch of the house, and measured each post of the
porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.
Then he brought me to the
portico of the temple and measured the side pillars of the
portico to be five cubits on each side. The width of the
gateway was
fourteen cubits and its sidewalls were three cubits on either side.
After he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side.
Next he measured the wall of the temple to be six cubits thick, and the width of each side room around the temple was four cubits.
He measured it by the
four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the
profane place.
So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.
And from the bottom upon the ground even to the lower settle shall be two cubits, and the breadth one
cubit; and from the lesser settle even to the greater settle shall be
four cubits, and the breadth one
cubit.
The space from the
gutter on the ground to the lower
ledge shall be two cubits, and the
ledge one
cubit wide. The space from the smaller
ledge to the larger
ledge shall be
four cubits, and the
ledge one
cubit wide.
So the altar shall be four cubits; and from the altar and upward shall be four horns.
The altar
hearth shall be
four cubits high, and
four horns shall project upward from the
hearth.
And the altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof.
The altar
hearth shall be square at its
four corners, twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide.
And the settle shall be
fourteen cubits long and
fourteen broad in the
four squares thereof; and the border about it shall be half a
cubit; and the bottom thereof shall be a
cubit about; and his stairs shall look toward the east.
The
ledge shall also be square,
fourteen cubits long and
fourteen cubits wide, with a
rim of half a
cubit and a
gutter of a
cubit all around it. The steps of the altar shall face east.”
And thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and put it on the
four horns of it, and on the
four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou
cleanse and
purge it.
You are to take some of its blood and put it on the
four horns of the altar, on the
four corners of the
ledge, and all around the
rim; thus you will
cleanse the altar and make
atonement for it.
And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering, and put it upon the posts of the house, and upon the four corners of the settle of the altar, and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.
And the priest is to take some of the blood from the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, on the
four corners of the
ledge of the altar, and on the gateposts of the inner court.
On the
fourteenth day of the first month you are to observe the
Passover, a feast of seven days, during which
unleavened bread shall be eaten.
Then he brought me forth into the utter court, and caused me to pass by the four corners of the court; and, behold, in every corner of the court there was a court.
Then he brought me into the outer court and led me around to its four corners, and I saw a separate court in each of its corners.
In the four corners of the court there were courts joined of forty cubits long and thirty broad: these four corners were of one measure.
In the four corners of the outer court there were enclosed courts, each forty cubits long and thirty cubits wide. Each of the four corner areas had the same dimensions.
And there was a row of building round about in them, round about them four, and it was made with boiling places under the rows round about.
Around the inside of each of the four courts was a row of masonry with ovens built at the base of the walls on all sides.
And these shall be the measures thereof; the north side four thousand and five hundred, and the south side four thousand and five hundred, and on the east side four thousand and five hundred, and the west side four thousand and five hundred.
and will have these measurements: 4,500 cubits on the north side, 4,500 cubits on the south side, 4,500 cubits on the east side, and 4,500 cubits on the west side.
All the
oblation shall be five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand: ye shall offer the holy
oblation foursquare, with the possession of the city.
The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits by 25,000 cubits. You are to set apart the holy portion, along with the city property.
And these are the goings out of the city on the north side, four thousand and five hundred measures.
“These will be the exits of the city:
And at the east side
four thousand and five hundred: and three gates; and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of
Dan.
On the east side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of
Dan.
And at the south side
four thousand and five hundred measures: and three gates; one gate of
Simeon, one gate of
Issachar, one gate of
Zebulun.
On the south side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of
Simeon, the gate of
Issachar, and the gate of
Zebulun.
At the west side
four thousand and five hundred, with their three gates; one gate of
Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of
Naphtali.
And on the west side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of
Gad, the gate of Asher, and the gate of
Naphtali.
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. And Daniel had insight into all kinds of visions and dreams.
And the
fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and
bruise.
Finally, there will be a
fourth kingdom as strong as iron; for iron
shatters and crushes all things, and like iron that crushes all things, it will
shatter and
crush all the others.
He answered and said, Lo, I see
four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no
hurt; and the form of the
fourth is like the Son of God.
“Look!” he
exclaimed. “I see
four men, unbound and
unharmed, walking around in the fire—and the
fourth looks like a son of the gods!”
Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the
four winds of the heaven
strove upon the great sea.
Daniel declared: “In my vision in the night I looked, and suddenly the
four winds of heaven were
churning up the great sea.
And
four great beasts came up from the sea,
diverse one from another.
Then four great beasts came up out of the sea, each one different from the others:
After this I
beheld, and lo another, like a
leopard, which had upon the back of it
four wings of a fowl; the beast had also
four heads; and dominion was given to it.
Next, as I watched, another beast appeared. It was like a
leopard, and on its back it had
four wings like those of a bird. The beast also had
four heads, and it was given authority to rule.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a
fourth beast,
dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it
devoured and
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was
diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
After this, as I watched in my vision in the night, suddenly a
fourth beast appeared, and it was
terrifying—
dreadful and extremely strong—with large iron teeth. It
devoured and
crushed; then it
trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the beasts before it, and it had ten horns.
These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.
‘These four great beasts are four kings who will arise from the earth.
Then I would know the truth of the
fourth beast, which was
diverse from all the others, exceeding
dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his
nails of brass; which
devoured,
brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the
fourth beast, which was different from all the others—extremely
terrifying—
devouring and
crushing with iron teeth and bronze claws, then
trampling underfoot whatever was left.
Thus he said, The
fourth beast shall be the
fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be
diverse from all kingdoms, and shall
devour the whole earth, and shall
tread it down, and break it in pieces.
This is what he said: ‘The
fourth beast is a
fourth kingdom that will appear on the earth, different from all the other kingdoms, and it will
devour the whole earth,
trample it down, and
crush it.
Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
Thus the goat became very great, but at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off, and four prominent horns came up in its place, pointing toward the four winds of heaven.
Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.
The four horns that replaced the broken one represent four kingdoms that will rise from that nation, but will not have the same power.
And in the
four and
twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is
Hiddekel;
On the twenty-
fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the
Tigris,
And now will I
shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the
fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall
stir up all against the realm of
Grecia.
Now then, I will tell you the truth: Three more kings will arise in Persia, and then a
fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. By the power of his wealth, he will
stir up
everyone against the kingdom of Greece.
And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the
four winds of heaven; and not to his
posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be
plucked up, even for others beside those.
But as soon as he is established, his kingdom will be broken up and
parceled out toward the
four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the authority with which he ruled, because his kingdom will be uprooted and given to others.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
threshed Gilead with
threshing instruments of iron:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Damascus, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they
threshed Gilead with sledges of iron.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of
Gaza, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away
captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to
Edom:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of
Gaza, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they exiled a whole population, delivering them up to
Edom.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to
Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Tyre, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they delivered up a whole congregation of exiles to
Edom and broke a covenant of
brotherhood.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of
Edom, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all
pity, and his anger did
tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of
Edom, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and
stifled all
compassion; his anger
raged continually, and his
fury flamed
incessantly.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of
Ammon, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
ripped up the women with child of
Gilead, that they might
enlarge their border:
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of
Edom into lime:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Moab, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because he burned to lime the bones of
Edom’s king.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to
err, after the which their fathers have walked:
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Judah, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they
reject the Law of the LORD and fail to keep His statutes; they are led
astray by the lies in which their fathers walked.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for
four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of
shoes;
This is what the LORD says: “For three transgressions of Israel, even
four, I will not
revoke My judgment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the
needy for a pair of
sandals.
In the
four and
twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of
Darius the king.
on the twenty-
fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of King
Darius.
In the
four and
twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of
Darius, came the word of the LORD by
Haggai the prophet, saying,
On the twenty-
fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of
Darius, the word of the LORD came to
Haggai the prophet, saying,
Consider now from this day and upward, from the
four and
twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’S temple was laid, consider it.
Consider carefully from this day forward—from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, the day the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid—consider carefully:
And again the word of the LORD came unto
Haggai in the
four and
twentieth day of the month, saying,
For the second time that day, the twenty-
fourth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to
Haggai, saying,
Upon the
four and
twentieth day of the
eleventh month, which is the month
Sebat, in the second year of
Darius, came the word of the LORD unto
Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of
Iddo the prophet, saying,
On the twenty-
fourth day of the
eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of
Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet
Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of
Iddo.
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
Then I looked up and saw four horns.
And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.
Ho, ho, come forth, and
flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the
four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.
“Get up! Get up!
Flee from the land of the north,” declares the LORD, “for I have scattered you like the
four winds of heaven,” declares the LORD.
And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came
four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
And again I lifted up my eyes and saw
four chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
the third white horses, and the
fourth dappled horses—all of them strong.
And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
And the angel told me, “These are the four spirits of heaven, going forth from their station before the Lord of all the earth.
And it came to pass in the
fourth year of king
Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto
Zechariah in the
fourth day of the ninth month, even in
Chisleu;
In the
fourth year of King
Darius, the word of the LORD came to
Zechariah on the
fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the
fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and
gladness, and
cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: The fasts of the
fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months will become times of joy and
gladness,
cheerful feasts for the house of Judah. Therefore you are to love both truth and peace.”
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
In all, then, there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea.
And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
A total of four thousand men were fed, in addition to women and children.
Neither the seven
loaves of the
four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
Or the seven
loaves for the
four thousand, and how many
basketfuls you gathered?
Notwithstanding, lest we should
offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
“But so that we may not
offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a
four-
drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a
trumpet, and they shall gather together his
elect from the
four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
And He will send out His angels with a loud
trumpet call, and they will gather His
elect from the
four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the
palsy, which was borne of
four.
Then a
paralytic was brought to Him, carried by
four men.
And he saw them
toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the
fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
He could see that the disciples were straining to row, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea. He intended to pass by them,
And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
And about four thousand men were present. As soon as Jesus had dismissed the crowd,
And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
“And when I broke the seven
loaves for the
four thousand, how many
basketfuls of broken pieces did you collect?” “Seven,” they said.
And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his
elect from the
four winds, from the
uttermost part of the earth to the
uttermost part of heaven.
And He will send out the angels to gather His
elect from the
four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
