And the congregation shall deliver the
slayer out of the hand of the
revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge,
whither he was fled: and he shall
abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was
anointed with the holy oil.
The assembly is to protect the
manslayer from the hand of the
avenger of blood. Then the assembly will return him to the city of refuge to which he fled, and he must live there until the death of the high priest, who was
anointed with the holy oil.
And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken
from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken
from the lot of our inheritance.
But if they marry any of the men
from the other tribes of Israel, their inheritance will be withdrawn
from the portion of our fathers and added to the tribe into which they marry. So our
allotted inheritance would be taken away.
And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away
from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.
And when the
Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to the tribe into which they marry and taken away
from the tribe of our fathers.”
So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
No inheritance in Israel may be transferred from tribe to tribe, because each of the Israelites is to retain the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.
Every daughter who possesses an inheritance
from any
Israelite tribe must marry within a clan of the tribe of her father, so that every
Israelite will possess the inheritance of his fathers.
Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.
No inheritance may be transferred from one tribe to another, for each tribe of Israel must retain its inheritance.”
These are the commandments and the judgments, which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near
Jericho.
These are the commandments and ordinances that the LORD gave the Israelites through Moses on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across
from Jericho.
(There are eleven days’ journey
from Horeb by the way of mount
Seir unto Kadesh-barnea.)
It is an eleven-day journey
from Horeb to Kadesh-barnea by way of Mount
Seir.
Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
Choose for
yourselves wise, understanding, and respected men
from each of your tribes, and I will
appoint them as your leaders.”
And when we departed
from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the
Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
And just as the LORD our God had commanded us, we set out
from Horeb and went toward the hill country of the
Amorites, through all the vast and
terrifying wilderness you have seen. When we reached Kadesh-barnea,
and the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:
The plan seemed good to me, so I selected twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.
Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.
And the little ones you said would become
captives—your children who on that day did not know good
from evil—will enter the land that I will give them, and they will possess it.
And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be
smitten before your enemies.
But the LORD said to me, “Tell them not to go up and fight, for I am not with you to keep you from defeat by your enemies.”
And the
Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and
chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in
Seir, even unto Hormah.
Then the
Amorites who lived in the hills came out against you and
chased you like a
swarm of bees. They routed you
from Seir all the way to Hormah.
And when we passed by
from our brethren the children of
Esau, which dwelt in
Seir, through the way of the plain
from Elath, and
from Ezion-gaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
So we passed by our brothers, the descendants of
Esau, who live in
Seir. We turned away
from the Arabah road, which comes up
from Elath and Ezion-
geber, and traveled along the road of the Wilderness of Moab.
The Horims also dwelt in
Seir beforetime; but the children of
Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them
from before them, and dwelt in their
stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
The Horites used to live in
Seir, but the descendants of
Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites
from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land that the LORD gave them as their possession.)
And the space in which we came
from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the
brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out
from among the host, as the LORD
sware unto them.
The time we spent traveling
from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the
Brook of Zered was thirty-eight years, until that entire generation of fighting men had perished
from the camp, as the LORD had
sworn to them.
For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
Indeed, the LORD’s hand was against them, to
eliminate them
from the camp, until they had all perished.
So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
Now when all the fighting men among the people had died,
A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their
stead:
They were a people great and many, as tall as the Anakites. But the LORD destroyed them
from before the
Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place,
As he did to the children of
Esau, which dwelt in
Seir, when he destroyed the Horims
from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their
stead even unto this day:
just as He had done for the descendants of
Esau who lived in
Seir, when He destroyed the Horites
from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.
And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of
Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
So
from the Wilderness of Kedemoth I sent messengers with an offer of peace to Sihon king of
Heshbon, saying,
Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the
spoil of the cities which we took.
We carried off for ourselves only the
livestock and the
plunder from the cities we captured.
From Aroer, which is by the
brink of the river of
Arnon, and
from the city that is by the river, even unto
Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
From Aroer on the
rim of the
Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as
Gilead, not one city had walls too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.
And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not
from them,
threescore cities, all the region of
Argob, the kingdom of
Og in
Bashan.
At that time we captured all sixty of his cities. There was not a single city we failed to take—the entire region of
Argob, the kingdom of
Og in
Bashan.
And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the
Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan,
from the river of
Arnon unto mount
Hermon;
At that time we took
from the two kings of the
Amorites the land across the Jordan,
from the
Arnon Valley as far as Mount
Hermon—
And this land, which we possessed at that time,
from Aroer, which is by the river
Arnon, and half mount
Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.
So at that time we took possession of this land. To the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the land beyond Aroer along the
Arnon Valley, and half the hill country of
Gilead, along with its cities.
And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave
from Gilead even unto the river
Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river
Jabbok, which is the border of the children of
Ammon;
and to the Reubenites and Gadites I gave the territory
from Gilead to the
Arnon Valley (the middle of the valley was the border) and up to the
Jabbok River, the border of the
Ammonites.
The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof,
from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-
pisgah eastward.
The Jordan River in the Arabah bordered it
from Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) with the slopes of
Pisgah to the east.
Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
You must not add to or
subtract from what I command you, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of
Baal-peor: for all the men that followed
Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them
from among you.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at
Baal-peor, for the LORD your God destroyed
from among you all who followed
Baal of Peor.
Only take
heed to
thyself, and keep thy soul
diligently, lest thou
forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart
from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
Only be on your guard and
diligently watch
yourselves, so that you do not
forget the things your eyes have seen, and so that they do not slip
from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and grandchildren.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish
from off the land
whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not
prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live long upon it, but will be utterly destroyed.
But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
But if from there you will seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?
Indeed, ask now from one end of the heavens to the other about the days that long preceded you, from the day that God created man on earth: Has anything as great as this ever happened or been reported?
Or hath God
assayed to go and take him a nation
from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Or has any god tried to take as his own a nation out of another nation—by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors—as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might
instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.
He let you hear His voice from heaven to discipline you, and on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the fire.
To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
to drive out before you nations greater and mightier than you, and to bring you into their land and give it to you for your inheritance, as it is this day.
From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river
Arnon, even unto mount
Sion, which is
Hermon,
extending
from Aroer on the
rim of the
Arnon Valley as far as Mount Siyon (that is,
Hermon),
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt,
from the house of
bondage.
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as
frontlets between thine eyes.
Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Then
beware lest thou
forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt,
from the house of
bondage.
be careful not to
forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
(For the LORD thy God is a
jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be
kindled against thee, and destroy thee
from off the face of the earth.
For the LORD your God, who is among you, is a
jealous God. Otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be
kindled against you, and He will
wipe you off the face of the earth.
To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
driving out all your enemies before you, as the LORD has said.
And he brought us out
from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he
sware unto our fathers.
But He brought us out
from there to lead us in and give us the land that He had
sworn to our fathers.
For they will turn away thy son
from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.
But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had
sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondmen,
from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He
swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you
from the house of slavery,
from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
And the LORD will take away
from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that
hate thee.
And the LORD will remove
from you all sickness. He will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will
inflict them on all who
hate you.
Moreover the LORD thy God will send the
hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves
from thee, be destroyed.
Moreover, the LORD your God will send the
hornet against them until even the survivors hiding
from you have perished.
And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
He will hand their kings over to you, and you will
wipe out their names
from under heaven. No one will be able to stand against you; you will
annihilate them.
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with
manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man
doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD
doth man live.
He humbled you, and in your hunger He gave you
manna to eat, which neither you nor your fathers had known, so that you might understand that man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes
from the mouth of the LORD.
Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou
forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt,
from the house of
bondage;
then your heart will become proud, and you will
forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were
fiery serpents, and scorpions, and
drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
He led you through the vast and
terrifying wilderness with its
venomous snakes and scorpions, a
thirsty and waterless land. He brought you water
from the rock of flint.
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out
from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD
doth drive them out
from before thee.
When the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, “Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land.” Rather, the LORD is driving out these nations before you because of their wickedness.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart,
dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out
from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It is not because of your righteousness or uprightness of heart that you are going in to possess their land, but it is because of their wickedness that the LORD your God is driving out these nations before you, to keep the promise He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Remember, and
forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness:
from the day that thou
didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been
rebellious against the LORD.
Remember this, and never
forget how you
provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness.
From the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place, you have been rebelling against the LORD.
And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly
from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a
molten image.
And the LORD said to me, “Get up and go down
from here at once, for your people, whom you brought out of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. How quickly they have turned aside
from the way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a
molten image.”
Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and
blot out their name
from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
Leave Me alone, so that I may destroy them and
blot out their name
from under heaven. Then I will make you into a nation mightier and greater than they are.”
So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
So I went back down the mountain while it was
blazing with fire, with the two tablets of the covenant in my hands.
And I looked, and, behold, ye had
sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a
molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
And I saw how you had
sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for
yourselves a
molten calf. You had turned aside quickly
from the way that the LORD had commanded you.
And I took your sin, the
calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the
brook that descended out of the mount.
And I took that sinful thing, the
calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I
crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust, and I cast it into the stream that came down
from the mountain.
Likewise when the LORD sent you
from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor
hearkened to his voice.
And when the LORD sent you out from Kadesh-barnea, He said, “Go up and possess the land that I have given you.” But you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You neither believed Him nor obeyed Him.
Ye have been
rebellious against the LORD
from the day that I knew you.
You have been rebelling against the LORD since the day I came to know you.
Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he
hated them, he hath brought them out to
slay them in the wilderness.
Otherwise, those in the land
from which You brought us out will say, ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land He had promised them, and because He
hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’
And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.
and I went back down the mountain and placed the tablets in the ark I had made, as the LORD had commanded me; and there they have remained.
And the children of Israel took their journey
from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and
Eleazar his son ministered in the priest’s office in his
stead.
The Israelites traveled
from Beeroth
Bene-jaakan to Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, and
Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest.
From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters.
From there they traveled to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water.
For the land,
whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt,
from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:
For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt,
from which you have come, where you
sowed your seed and
irrigated on foot, like a vegetable garden.
But the land,
whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.
A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.
It is a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning to the end of the year.
And then the LORD’S wrath be
kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly
from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
or the anger of the LORD will be
kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish
from the good land that the LORD is giving you.
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as
frontlets between your eyes.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds;
tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
Then will the LORD drive out all these nations
from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than
yourselves.
then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.
Every place
whereon the soles of your feet shall
tread shall be yours:
from the wilderness and
Lebanon,
from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the
uttermost sea shall your coast be.
Every place where the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend
from the wilderness to
Lebanon, and
from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea.
And a
curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
but a
curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside
from the path I command you
today by following other gods, which you have not known.
And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall
hew down the
graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.
Tear down their altars,
smash their sacred pillars, burn up their Asherah poles, cut down the idols of their gods, and
wipe out their names
from every place.
But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his
habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:
Instead, you must seek the place the LORD your God will choose from among all your tribes to establish as a dwelling for His Name, and there you must go.
But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the LORD your God giveth you to
inherit, and when he giveth you rest
from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety;
When you cross the Jordan and live in the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and He gives you rest from all the enemies around you and you dwell securely,
If the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to put his name there be too far
from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy
herd and of thy flock, which the LORD hath given thee, as I have commanded thee, and thou shalt eat in thy gates
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
If the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His Name is too far
from you, then you may slaughter any of the
herd or flock He has given you, as I have commanded you, and you may eat it within your gates whenever you want.
When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations
from before thee,
whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;
When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations you are entering to dispossess, and you drive them out and live in their land,
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by following them, after that they be destroyed
from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
What thing
soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add
thereto, nor diminish
from it.
See that you do everything I command you; do not add to it or
subtract from it.
And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away
from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away
from the midst of thee.
Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you
from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you
from the way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must
purge the evil
from among you.
Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you,
nigh unto thee, or far off
from thee,
from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;
the gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, whether from one end of the earth or the other),
And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away
from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt,
from the house of
bondage.
Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Certain men, the children of
Belial, are gone out
from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
that wicked men have arisen
from among you and have led the people of their city
astray, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods” (which you have not known),
And there shall
cleave nought of the
cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn
from the fierceness of his anger, and
shew thee mercy, and have
compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath
sworn unto thy fathers;
Nothing devoted to destruction shall
cling to your hands, so that the LORD will turn
from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you
compassion, and multiply you as He
swore to your fathers,
Thou shalt truly
tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
You must be sure to set aside a tenth of all the produce brought forth each year from your fields.
And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
But if the distance is too great for you to carry that with which the LORD your God has blessed you, because the place where the LORD your God will choose to put His Name is too far away,
And this is the manner of the release: Every
creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD’S release.
This is the manner of remission: Every
creditor shall
cancel what he has
loaned to his
neighbor. He is not to collect anything
from his
neighbor or brother, because the LORD’s time of release has been proclaimed.
Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;
You may collect something
from a foreigner, but you must
forgive whatever your brother owes you.
For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt
lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not
borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.
When the LORD your God blesses you as He has promised, you will
lend to many nations but
borrow from none; you will rule over many nations but be ruled by none.
If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not
harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand
from thy poor brother:
If there is a poor man among your brothers within any of the gates in the land that the LORD your God is giving you, then you are not to
harden your heart or shut your hand
from your poor brother.
And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
If a fellow Hebrew, a man or a woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you must set him free.
And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:
And when you release him, do not send him away empty-handed.
Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that
wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.
You are to furnish him liberally
from your flock, your
threshing floor, and your winepress. You shall give to him as the LORD your God has blessed you.
And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;
But if your servant says to you, ‘I do not want to leave you,’ because he loves you and your household and is well off with you,
It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free
from thee; for he hath been worth a double
hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in all that thou doest.
Do not regard it as a
hardship to set your servant free, because his six years of service were worth twice the wages of a
hired hand. And the LORD your God will
bless you in all you do.
Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the
passover unto the LORD thy God, of the flock and the
herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there.
You are to offer to the LORD your God the
Passover sacrifice
from the
herd or flock in the place the LORD will choose as a dwelling for His Name.
But at the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the
passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt.
You must only offer the
Passover sacrifice at the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for His Name. Do this in the evening as the sun sets, at the same time you departed
from Egypt.
