Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be
heard in this place, which ye say shall be
desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are
desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
Yet
hear the word of the LORD, O
Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword:
Yet
hear the word of the LORD, O
Zedekiah king of Judah. This is what the LORD says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;
Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant,
heard that every one should let his
manservant, and every one his
maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in
bondage. They obeyed and released them,
At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers
hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.
Every seventh year, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who has sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free. But your fathers did not
listen or
incline their ear.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not
hearkened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I
proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his
neighbor. So now I
proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to
hearken to my words? saith the LORD.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: ‘Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?’ declares the LORD.
The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye
hearkened not unto me.
The words of Jonadab son of Rechab have been carried out. He commanded his sons not to drink wine, and they have not
drunk it to this very day because they have obeyed the command of their
forefather. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you have not obeyed Me!
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not
hearkened unto me:
Yes, the sons of Jonadab son of Rechab carried out the command their
forefather gave them, but these people have not
listened to Me.
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.
Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will bring to Judah and to all the residents of Jerusalem all the
disaster I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them but they have not answered.’”
It may be that the house of Judah will
hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the people of Judah
hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the
hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the
hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.
From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the
hearing of all the people.
When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,
When Micaiah son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan,
heard all the words of the LORD from the
scroll,
Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had
heard, when
Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
And Micaiah reported to them all the words he had
heard Baruch read from the
scroll in the
hearing of the people.
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the
hearing of the people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So
Baruch read it in their ears.
“Please sit down,” they said, “and read it in our
hearing.” So
Baruch read it in their
hearing.
Now it came to pass, when they had
heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had
heard all these words, they turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
So the king sent Jehudi to
fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the
scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
Then the king sent Jehudi to get the
scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the
scribe. And Jehudi read it in the
hearing of the king and all the officials who were standing beside him.
Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the
hearth burning before him.
Since it was the ninth month, the king was sitting in his winter quarters with a fire burning before him.
And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the
penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the
hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the
hearth.
And as soon as Jehudi had read three or four columns,
Jehoiakim would cut them off with a
scribe’s knife and throw them into the
firepot, until the entire
scroll had been consumed by the fire.
Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
Yet in
hearing all these words, the king and his servants did not become
frightened or
tear their garments.
Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made
intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not
hear them.
Even though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the
scroll, he would not
listen to them.
And I will
punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they
hearkened not.
I will
punish him and his descendants and servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the
calamity about which I
warned them but they did not
listen.”
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did
hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
But he and his officers and the people of the land refused to obey the words that the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.
Then Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem
heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.
Pharaoh’s army had left Egypt, and when the Chaldeans who were
besieging Jerusalem
heard the report, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he
hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
“That is a lie,” Jeremiah replied. “I am not deserting to the Chaldeans!” But Irijah would not
listen to him; instead, he arrested Jeremiah and took him to the officials.
Therefore
hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my
supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, lest I die there.
But now please
listen, O my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, or I will die there.”
Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchijah heard that Jeremiah had been telling all the people:
Now when Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king’s house,
heard that they had put Jeremiah in the
dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
Now Ebed-melech the
Cushite, a court official in the royal palace,
heard that Jeremiah had been put into the
cistern. While the king was sitting at the Gate of Benjamin,
Then Jeremiah said unto
Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee,
wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel,
wilt thou not
hearken unto me?
“If I tell you,” Jeremiah replied, “you will surely put me to death. And even if I give you advice, you will not
listen to me.”
But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
If the officials hear that I have spoken with you, and they come and demand of you, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what he said to you; do not hide it from us, or we will kill you,’
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men,
heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away
captive to Babylon;
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field
heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the poorest of the land and had not been exiled to Babylon,
Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the
Ammonites, and in
Edom, and that were in all the countries,
heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan;
When all the Jews in Moab,
Ammon,
Edom, and all the other lands
heard that the king of Babylon had left a
remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, over them,
But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him,
heard of all the evil that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
When Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him
heard of all the crimes that
Ishmael son of Nethaniah had committed,
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have
heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that
whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
“I have
heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will surely pray to the LORD your God as you request, and I will tell you everything that the LORD answers; I will not
withhold a word from you.”
Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor
hear the sound of the
trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:
and if you say, ‘No, but we will go to the land of Egypt and live there, where we will not see war or hear the sound of the ram’s horn or hunger for bread,’
And now therefore
hear the word of the LORD, ye
remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to
sojourn there;
then
hear the word of the LORD, O
remnant of Judah! This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and reside there,
For ye
dissembled in your
hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.
For you have
deceived yourselves by sending me to the LORD your God, saying, ‘Pray to the LORD our God on our behalf, and as for all that the LORD our God says, tell it to us and we will do it.’
But they
hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
But they did not
listen or
incline their ears; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.
As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not
hearken unto thee.
“As for the word you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not
listen to you!
Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all those of Judah who are in the land of Egypt.
Therefore
hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless,
hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
The nations have
heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath
stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.
The nations have
heard of your shame, and your outcry fills the earth, because
warrior stumbles over
warrior and both of them have fallen together.”
Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
Moab will be
shattered; her little ones will cry out.
For in the going up of Luhith continual
weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have
heard a cry of destruction.
For on the
ascent to Luhith they
weep bitterly as they go, and on the descent to Horonaim
cries of distress resound over the destruction:
Therefore will I
howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine
heart shall
mourn for the men of Kir-heres.
Therefore I will
wail for Moab; I will cry out for all of Moab; I will
moan for the men of Kir-heres.
Therefore mine
heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine
heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he hath
gotten are perished.
Therefore My
heart laments like a
flute for Moab; it laments like a
flute for the men of Kir-heres, because the wealth they acquired has perished.
Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Kirioth has been taken, and the strongholds seized. In that day the heart of Moab’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman in labor.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an
alarm of war to be
heard in Rabbah of the
Ammonites; and it shall be a
desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah of the
Ammonites. It will become a
heap of ruins, and its villages will be burned. Then Israel will drive out their dispossessors, says the LORD.
I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
I have
heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent to the nations: “
Assemble yourselves to march against her! Rise up for battle!”
Thy terribleness hath
deceived thee, and the pride of thine
heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
The terror you cause and the pride of your
heart have
deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit. Though you
elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
Therefore
hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against
Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations
desolate with them.
Therefore
hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against
Edom and the strategies He has devised against the people of Teman: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.
At the sound of their fall the earth will
quake; their cry will resound to the Red Sea.
Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over
Bozrah: and at that day shall the
heart of the mighty men of
Edom be as the
heart of a woman in her pangs.
Look! An eagle will
soar and
swoop down, spreading its wings over
Bozrah. In that day the
hearts of
Edom’s mighty men will be like the
heart of a woman in labor.
Concerning Damascus.
Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have
heard evil
tidings: they are
fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
Concerning Damascus: “
Hamath and Arpad are put to shame, for they have
heard a bad report; they are
agitated like the sea; their
anxiety cannot be calmed.
The king of Babylon hath
heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble:
anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in
travail.
The king of Babylon has
heard the report, and his hands
hang limp.
Anguish has gripped him, pain like that of a woman in labor.
Therefore
hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their
habitation desolate with them.
Therefore
hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
At the sound of Babylon’s capture the earth will
quake; a cry will be
heard among the nations.
And lest your
heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be
heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.
Do not let your
heart grow
faint, and do not be afraid when the
rumor is
heard in the land; for a
rumor will come one year— and then another the next year— of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
We are confounded, because we have
heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the
sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.
“We are
ashamed because we have
heard reproach; disgrace has covered our faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the LORD’s house.”
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.
The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against His command.
Listen, all you people; look upon my suffering. My young men and maidens have gone into captivity.
Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my
bowels are troubled; mine
heart is turned within me; for I have
grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.
See, O LORD, how distressed I am! I am
churning within; my
heart is pounding within me, for I have been most
rebellious. Outside, the sword bereaves; inside, there is death.
They have
heard that I
sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have
heard of my trouble; they are
glad that thou hast done it: thou
wilt bring the day that thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
People have
heard my
groaning, but there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have
heard of my trouble; they are
glad that You have caused it. May You bring the day You have
announced, so that they may become like me.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my
heart is
faint.
Let all their wickedness come before You, and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my groans are many, and my
heart is
faint.
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings
swoon in the streets of the city.
My eyes fail from
weeping; I am
churning within. My
heart is poured out in grief over the destruction of the daughter of my people, because children and infants
faint in the streets of the city.
Their
heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of
Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: give
thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.
The
hearts of the people cry out to the Lord. O wall of the Daughter of
Zion, let your tears run down like a river day and night. Give
yourself no relief, and your eyes no rest.
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine
heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Arise, cry out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour out your
heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every street.
Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven:
Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.
My eyes bring grief to my soul because of all the daughters of my city.
Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
You
heard my
plea: “Do not
ignore my cry for relief.”
Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;
O LORD, You have heard their insults, all their plots against me—
Give them sorrow of
heart, thy
curse unto them.
The joy of our
heart is ceased; our dance is turned into
mourning.
Joy has left our
hearts; our dancing has turned to
mourning.
For this our
heart is
faint; for these things our eyes are
dim.
Because of this, our
hearts are
faint; because of these, our eyes grow
dim—
And when they went, I
heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the
Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.
When the creatures moved, I
heard the sound of their wings like the
roar of many waters, like the voice of the
Almighty, like the
tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
The appearance of the brilliant light all around Him was like that of a
rainbow in a cloud on a
rainy day. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell facedown and
heard a voice speaking.
And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.
And as He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard Him speaking to me.
And they, whether they will
hear, or whether they will
forbear, (for they are a
rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.
And whether they
listen or refuse to
listen—for they are a
rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them.
And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will
hear, or whether they will
forbear: for they are most
rebellious.
But thou, son of man,
hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou
rebellious like that
rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
And you, son of man,
listen to what I tell you. Do not be
rebellious like that
rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have
hearkened unto thee.
not to the many peoples of unfamiliar speech and difficult language whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have
listened to you.
But the house of Israel will be unwilling to
listen to you, since they are unwilling to
listen to Me. For the whole house of Israel is hard-headed and hard-
hearted.
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
“Son of man,” He added, “
listen carefully to all the words I speak to you, and take them to
heart.
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will
hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the exiles; speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
Then the spirit took me up, and I
heard behind me a voice of a great
rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.
Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I
heard a great
rumbling sound behind me: ‘Blessed be the glory of the LORD in His dwelling place!’
I
heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great
rushing.
It was the sound of the wings of the living creatures
brushing against one another and the sound of the wheels beside them, a great
rumbling sound.
Son of man, I have made thee a
watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore
hear the word at my mouth, and give them
warning from me.
“Son of man, I have made you a
watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you
hear a word from My mouth, give them a
warning from Me.
But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that
heareth, let him
hear; and he that forbeareth, let him
forbear: for they are a
rebellious house.
But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you are to tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’
Whoever listens, let him
listen; and
whoever refuses, let him refuse, for they are a
rebellious house.
And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
You are to say: ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations
whither they shall be carried
captives, because I am broken with their
whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a
whoring after their idols: and they shall
lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
Then in the nations to which they have been carried
captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been
grieved by their
adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that
lusted after idols. So they will
loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their abominations.
Therefore will I also deal in
fury: mine eye shall not
spare, neither will I have
pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not
hear them.
Therefore I will
respond with wrath. I will not look on them with
pity, nor will I
spare them. Although they
shout loudly in My ears, I will not
listen to them.”
He
cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
Then I heard Him call out in a loud voice, saying, “Draw near, O executioners of the city, each with a weapon of destruction in hand.”
And to the others he said in mine
hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and
smite: let not your eye
spare, neither have ye
pity:
And as I
listened, He said to the others, “Follow him through the city and start killing; do not show
pity or
spare anyone!
And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was
heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the
Almighty God when he speaketh.
The sound of the wings of the
cherubim could be
heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God
Almighty when He speaks.
As for the wheels, it was
cried unto them in my
hearing, O wheel.
I
heard the wheels being called “the
whirling wheels.”
And I will give them one
heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the
stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an
heart of flesh:
And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh,
But as for them whose
heart walketh after the
heart of their
detestable things and their abominations, I will
recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.
But as for those whose
hearts pursue
detestable things and abominations, I will bring their conduct down upon their own heads, declares the Lord GOD.”
Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a
rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to
hear, and
hear not: for they are a
rebellious house.
“Son of man, you are living in a
rebellious house. They have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to
hear but do not
hear, for they are a
rebellious house.
