And before
him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a
shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
All the nations will be gathered before
Him, and He will separate the people one from another, as a
shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
Then shall the righteous answer
him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, and fed thee? or
thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Then the righteous will answer
Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You
hungry and feed You, or
thirsty and give You something to drink?
Then shall they also answer
him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, or
athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You
hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
And consulted that they might take Jesus by
subtilty, and kill
him.
There came unto
him a woman having an
alabaster box of very precious
ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.
And from that time he sought opportunity to
betray him.
So from then on
Judas looked for an opportunity to
betray Jesus.
Now the first day of the feast of
unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto
him, Where
wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the
passover?
On the first day of the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the
Passover?”
And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto
him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the
passover at thy house with my disciples.
He answered, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell
him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is near. I will keep the
Passover with My disciples at your house.’”
And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
They were deeply
grieved and began to ask
Him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?”
The Son of man goeth as it is written of
him: but
woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is
betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
The Son of Man will go just as it is written about
Him, but
woe to that man by whom He is
betrayed. It would be better for
him if he had not been born.”
Then
Judas, which
betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto
him, Thou hast said.
Peter answered and said unto
him, Though all men shall be
offended because of thee, yet will I never be
offended.
Peter said to Him, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.”
Jesus said unto
him,
Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the
cock crow, thou shalt deny me
thrice.
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus declared, “this very night, before the
rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
Peter replied, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
And while he yet spake, lo,
Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with
him a great multitude with swords and
staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
While Jesus was still speaking,
Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Now the
betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I
kiss is the man; arrest
Him.”
Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Greetings,
Rabbi!” and
kissed Him.
And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
“Friend,” Jesus replied, “do what you came for.” Then the men
stepped forward, seized Jesus, and arrested
Him.
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples
forsook him, and fled.
But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.
And they that had laid hold on Jesus led
him away to
Caiaphas the high priest, where the
scribes and the elders were assembled.
Those who had arrested Jesus led
Him away to the house of
Caiaphas the high priest, where the
scribes and elders had gathered.
But Peter followed
him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
But Peter followed
Him at a distance, right up to the
courtyard of the high priest. And he went in and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.
Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
Now the chief priests and the whole
Sanhedrin were seeking false testimony against Jesus in order to put
Him to death.
And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
So the high priest stood up and asked
Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men
testifying against You?”
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto
him, I
adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”
Jesus saith unto
him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you,
Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
“You have said it
yourself,” Jesus answered. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Then did they
spit in his face, and
buffeted him; and others
smote him with the palms of their hands,
Then they
spit in His face and struck
Him. Others
slapped Him Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a
damsel came unto
him, saying, Thou also
wast with Jesus of
Galilee.
Meanwhile, Peter was sitting out in the
courtyard, and a servant
girl came up to
him. “You also were with Jesus the
Galilean,” she said.
And when he was gone out into the
porch, another
maid saw
him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of
Nazareth.
When Peter had gone out to the
gateway, another servant
girl saw
him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus of
Nazareth.”
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
After a little while, those standing nearby came up to Peter. “Surely you are one of them,” they said, “for your
accent gives you away.”
And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto
him, Before the
cock crow, thou shalt deny me
thrice. And he went out, and
wept bitterly.
Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken: “Before the
rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went outside and
wept bitterly.
When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people
conspired against Jesus to put
Him to death.
And when they had bound
him, they led
him away, and delivered
him to Pontius
Pilate the governor.
They bound
Him, led
Him away, and handed
Him over to
Pilate the governor.
Then
Judas, which had
betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
When
Judas, who had
betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with
remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and
hanged himself.
So
Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and
hanged himself.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
Then what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on Him by the people of Israel,
And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, who questioned Him: “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
Then said
Pilate unto
him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
Then
Pilate asked
Him, “Do You not hear how many charges they are bringing against You?”
But Jesus gave no answer, not even to a single charge, much to the governor’s
amazement.
For he knew that for
envy they had delivered
him.
For he knew it was out of
envy that they had handed Jesus over to
him.
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
While
Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent
him this message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered
terribly in a dream
today because of
Him.”
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto
him, Let
him be
crucified.
“What then should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?”
Pilate asked. They all answered, “
Crucify Him!”
And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they
cried out the more, saying, Let
him be
crucified.
Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered
him to be
crucified.
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the
Praetorium and gathered the whole company around
Him.
And when they had
platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the
knee before
him, and
mocked him, saying,
Hail, King of the Jews!
And they twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand and
knelt down before
Him to
mock Him, saying, “
Hail, King of the Jews!”
And they
spit upon
him, and took the reed, and
smote him on the head.
Then they
spit on
Him and took the staff and struck
Him on the head repeatedly.
And after that they had
mocked him, they took the
robe off from
him, and put his own
raiment on
him, and led
him away to
crucify him.
After they had
mocked Him, they removed the
robe and put His own clothes back on
Him. Then they led
Him away to
crucify Him.
And as they came out, they found a man of
Cyrene, Simon by name:
him they compelled to bear his cross.
Along the way they found a man from
Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced
him to carry the cross of Jesus.
They gave
him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it.
And they
crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my
vesture did they cast lots.
When they had
crucified Him, they divided up His garments by casting lots.
And sitting down they watched him there;
And sitting down, they kept watch over Him there.
And set up over his head his
accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Above His head they posted the written charge against Him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Then were there two
thieves crucified with
him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
Two robbers were
crucified with
Him, one on His right hand and the other on His left.
Likewise also the chief priests
mocking him, with the
scribes and elders, said,
In the same way, the chief priests,
scribes, and elders
mocked Him, saying,
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
“He saved others, but He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
He trusts in God. Let God deliver Him now if He wants Him. For He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
And
straightway one of them ran, and took a
spunge, and filled it with
vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave
him to drink.
One of them quickly ran and brought a
sponge. He filled it with
sour wine, put it on a reed, and held it up for Jesus to drink.
The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
But the others said, “Leave
Him alone. Let us see if
Elijah comes to save
Him.”
Now when the
centurion, and they that were with
him, watching Jesus, saw the
earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
When the
centurion and those with
him who were guarding Jesus saw the
earthquake and all that had happened, they were
terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”
And many women were there beholding
afar off, which followed Jesus from
Galilee, ministering unto
him:
And many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from
Galilee to minister to
Him.
When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
When it was evening, there came a rich man from
Arimathea named Joseph, who
himself was a disciple of Jesus.
He went to
Pilate, and
begged the body of Jesus. Then
Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
He went to
Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus, and
Pilate ordered that it be given to
him.
Command therefore that the
sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and
steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and
steal Him away and tell the people He has risen from the dead. And this last
deception would be worse than the first.”
And for fear of
him the keepers did
shake, and became as dead men.
The guards
trembled in fear of
him and became like dead men.
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into
Galilee; there shall ye see
him: lo, I have told you.
Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and is going
ahead of you into
Galilee. There you will see
Him.’ See, I have told you.”
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All
hail. And they came and held
him by the feet, and worshipped
him.
Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came to
Him,
grasped His feet, and worshiped
Him.
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and
stole him away while we
slept.
and
instructed them: “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and
stole Him away while we were
asleep.’
And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will
persuade him, and secure you.
If this report reaches the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.”
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’”
And there went out unto
him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all
baptized of
him in the river of Jordan,
confessing their sins.
And
straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a
dove descending upon
him:
As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens breaking open and the Spirit descending on
Him like a
dove.
And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
At once the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness,
And he was there in the wilderness forty days,
tempted of
Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto
him.
and He was there for forty days, being
tempted by
Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered to
Him.
And at once they left their nets and followed Him.
And
straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the
hired servants, and went after
him.
Immediately Jesus called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the
hired men and followed
Him.
And Jesus
rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of
him.
But Jesus
rebuked the spirit. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of
him!”
And when the unclean spirit had
torn him, and
cried with a loud voice, he came out of
him.
At this, the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and came out with a loud
shriek.
And they were all
amazed,
insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey
him.
All the people were
amazed and began to ask one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey
Him!”
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and
anon they tell
him of her.
Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they
promptly told Jesus about her.
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
That evening, after
sunset, people brought to Jesus all who were sick and
demon-possessed,
And he
healed many that were sick of
divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew
him.
And He
healed many who were ill with various diseases and drove out many demons. But He would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
Simon and his companions went to look for Him,
And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
and when they found
Him, they said, “
Everyone is looking for You!”
Then a
leper came to Jesus,
begging on his knees: “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”
And Jesus, moved with
compassion, put forth his hand, and touched
him, and saith unto
him, I will; be thou clean.
Moved with
compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said. “Be clean!”
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the
leprosy departed from
him, and he was
cleansed.
And he straitly charged
him, and
forthwith sent
him away;
And saith unto
him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy
cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
“See that you don’t tell
anyone. But go, show
yourself to the priest and present the offering Moses prescribed for your
cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
But he went out, and began to
publish it much, and to
blaze abroad the matter,
insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to
him from every quarter.
But the man went out and openly began to
proclaim and spread the news. Consequently, Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in solitary places. Yet people came to
Him from every quarter.
And they come unto
him, bringing one sick of the
palsy, which was borne of four.
Then a
paralytic was brought to
Him, carried by four men.
And when they could not come
nigh unto
him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the
palsy lay.
Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above
Him, made an opening, and lowered the
paralytic on his mat.
And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
Once again Jesus went out beside the sea. All the people came to Him, and He taught them there.
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the
receipt of custom, and said unto
him, Follow me. And he arose and followed
him.
As He was walking along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax
booth. “Follow Me,” He told
him, and Levi got up and followed
Him.
