Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was
weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become
weary of
holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones
shake; I am like a
drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his
holiness.
As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, and all my bones
tremble. I have become like a
drunkard, like a man overcome by wine, because of the LORD, because of His
holy words.
Therefore
prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall
roar from on high, and utter his voice from his
holy habitation; he shall
mightily roar upon his
habitation; he shall give a
shout, as they that
tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.
So you are to
prophesy all these words against them and say to them: ‘The LORD will
roar from on high; He will raise His voice from His
holy habitation. He will
roar loudly over His pasture; like those who
tread the grapes, He will call out with a
shout against all the inhabitants of the earth.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD
bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore them from captivity, they will once again speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May the LORD
bless you, O righteous dwelling place, O
holy mountain.’
And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the
brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be
holy unto the LORD; it shall not be
plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
The whole valley of the dead bodies and ashes, and all the fields as far as the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate to the east, will be
holy to the LORD. It will never again be uprooted or
demolished.”
That every man should let his
manservant, and every man his
maidservant, being an Hebrew or an
Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a
Jew his brother.
that each man should free his Hebrew slaves, both male and female, and no one should
hold his fellow
Jew in
bondage.
Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his
manservant, and every one his
maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer
hold them in
bondage. They obeyed and released them,
For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of
vengeance, that he may
avenge him of his
adversaries: and the sword shall
devour, and it shall be
satiate and made
drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
For that day belongs to the Lord GOD of Hosts, a day of
vengeance against His foes. The sword will
devour until it is satisfied, until it is
quenched with their blood. For the Lord GOD of Hosts will
hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.
Thou daughter that
dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in
thirst; for the
spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong
holds.
Come down from your glory; sit on
parched ground, O daughter dwelling in Dibon, for the destroyer of Moab has come against you; he has destroyed your fortresses.
And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath,
Judgment has come upon the high plain— upon Holon, Jahzah, and Mephaath,
O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the
dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the
hole’s mouth.
Abandon the towns and settle among the rocks, O dwellers of Moab! Be like a
dove that nests at the mouth of a cave.
Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Kirioth has been taken, and the strongholds seized. In that day the heart of Moab’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman in labor.
Thy terribleness hath
deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that
holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
The terror you cause and the pride of your heart have
deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit. Though you
elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
Declare ye among the nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it;
hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape:
recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the
Holy One of Israel.
Summon the archers against Babylon, all who string the bow.
Encamp all around her; let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds; do to her as she has done. For she has
defied the LORD, the
Holy One of Israel.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were
oppressed together: and all that took them
captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “The sons of Israel are
oppressed, and the sons of Judah as well. All their captors
hold them fast, refusing to release them.
They shall
hold the bow and the
lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall
roar like the sea, and they shall
ride upon horses, every one put in
array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
They
grasp the bow and
spear; they are cruel and
merciless. Their voice roars like the sea, and they
ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation against you, O Daughter of Babylon.
The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble:
anguish took
hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in
travail.
The king of Babylon has heard the report, and his hands
hang limp.
Anguish has gripped him, pain like that of a woman in labor.
For Israel hath not been
forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the
Holy One of Israel.
For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set
ablaze, the bars of her gates are broken.
We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the
sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.
“We are
ashamed because we have heard reproach; disgrace has covered our faces, because foreigners have entered the
holy places of the LORD’s house.”
And concerning the pillars, the height of one
pillar was eighteen cubits; and a
fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness thereof was four fingers: it was
hollow.
Each
pillar was eighteen cubits tall and twelve cubits in circumference; each was
hollow, four fingers thick.
The Lord hath
swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not
pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong
holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath
polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.
Without
pity the Lord has
swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob. In His wrath He has
demolished the fortified cities of the Daughter of Judah. He brought to the ground and
defiled her kingdom and its princes.
The Lord was as an enemy: he hath
swallowed up Israel, he hath
swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong
holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah
mourning and
lamentation.
The Lord is like an enemy; He has
swallowed up Israel. He has
swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied
mourning and
lamentation for the Daughter of Judah.
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to
warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not
warn him or speak out to
warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will
hold you responsible for his blood.
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will
hold you responsible for his blood.
Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the
pomp of the strong to cease; and their
holy places shall be
defiled.
So I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will end the pride of the mighty, and their
holy places will be
profaned.
And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.
Then He brought me to the entrance to the court, and I looked and saw a hole in the wall.
That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all
estranged from me through their idols.
so that I may take
hold of the hearts of the people of Israel. For because of their idols, they are all
estranged from Me.’
And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.
With hooks they
caged him and brought him to the king of Babylon. They brought him into captivity so that his
roar was heard no longer on the mountains of Israel.
And
hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
Keep My Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us, so that you may know that I am the LORD your God.’
As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and
hereafter also, if ye will not
hearken unto me: but
pollute ye my
holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.
And as for you, O house of Israel, this is what the Lord GOD says: Go and serve your idols, every one of you. But afterward, you will surely
listen to Me, and you will no longer
defile My
holy name with your gifts and idols.
For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
For on My holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, there the whole house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land. There I will accept them and will require your offerings and choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices.
I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be
sanctified in you before the heathen.
When I bring you from the peoples and gather you from the lands to which you have been scattered, I will accept you as a pleasing
aroma. And I will show My
holiness through you in the sight of the nations.
Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the
holy places, and
prophesy against the land of Israel,
Her priests have
violated my law, and have
profaned mine
holy things: they have put no difference between the
holy and
profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have
hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am
profaned among them.
Her priests do violence to My law and
profane My
holy things. They make no distinction between the
holy and the common, and they fail to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. They disregard My Sabbaths, so that I am
profaned among them.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy sister’s cup deep and large: thou shalt be
laughed to
scorn and had in
derision; it containeth much.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You will drink your sister’s cup, a cup deep and wide. It will bring
scorn and
derision, for it
holds so much.
Thou art the
anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou
wast upon the
holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
You were
anointed as a
guardian cherub, for I had ordained you. You were on the
holy mountain of God; you walked among the
fiery stones.
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be
glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be
sanctified in her.
And you are to declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I am against you, O
Sidon, and I will be
glorified within you. They will know that I am the LORD when I
execute judgments against her and
demonstrate My
holiness through her.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be
sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they have been scattered, I will show Myself holy among them in the sight of the nations. Then they will dwell in their own land, which I have given to My servant Jacob.
When they took
hold of thee by thy hand, thou
didst break, and
rend all their shoulder: and when they
leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.
When Israel took
hold of you with their hands, you
splintered,
tearing all their shoulders; when they
leaned on you, you broke, and their backs were
wrenched.
Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be
healed, to put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to
hold the sword.
“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. See, it has not been bound up for
healing, or
splinted for strength to
hold the sword.
But if the
watchman see the sword come, and blow not the
trumpet, and the people be not
warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the
watchman’s hand.
But if the
watchman sees the sword coming and fails to blow the horn to
warn the people, and the sword comes and takes away a life, then that one will be taken away in his iniquity, but I will
hold the
watchman accountable for his blood.’
When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou
dost not speak to
warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ but you do not speak out to
dissuade him from his way, then that wicked man will die in his iniquity, yet I will
hold you accountable for his blood.
And when they entered unto the heathen,
whither they went, they
profaned my
holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land.
And wherever they went among the nations, they
profaned My
holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave His land.’
But I had
pity for mine
holy name, which the house of Israel had
profaned among the heathen,
whither they went.
But I had
concern for My
holy name, which the house of Israel had
profaned among the nations to which they had gone.
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine
holy name’s sake, which ye have
profaned among the heathen,
whither ye went.
Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My
holy name, which you
profaned among the nations to which you went.
And I will
sanctify my great name, which was
profaned among the heathen, which ye have
profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be
sanctified in you before their eyes.
I will show the
holiness of My great name, which has been
profaned among the nations—the name you have
profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when I show My
holiness in you before their eyes.
As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be
sanctified in thee, O
Gog, before their eyes.
You will advance against My people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will happen in the latter days, O
Gog, that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself
holy in you before their eyes.
So will I make my
holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them
pollute my
holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the
Holy One in Israel.
So I will make My
holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it to be
profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the
Holy One in Israel.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be
jealous for my
holy name;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have
compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be
jealous for My
holy name.
When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am
sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My
holiness in them in the sight of many nations.
So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.
Then he measured the room adjacent to the inner sanctuary to be twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”
And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house.
The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels of thirty rooms each. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be
holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the LORD shall eat the most
holy things: there shall they lay the most
holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the
trespass offering; for the place is
holy.
Then the man said to me, “The north and south chambers facing the temple
courtyard are the
holy chambers where the priests who approach the LORD will eat the most
holy offerings. There they will place the most
holy offerings—the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings—for the place is
holy.
When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
He measured it by the four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the
profane place.
So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.
And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my
holy name, shall the house of Israel no more
defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their
whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.
and He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the Israelites
forever. The house of Israel will never again
defile My
holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their
prostitution and by the funeral offerings for their kings at their deaths.
In their setting of their
threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even
defiled my
holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.
When they placed their
threshold next to My
threshold and their doorposts beside My doorposts, with only a wall between Me and them, they
defiled My
holy name by the abominations they committed. Therefore I have consumed them in My anger.
This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.
This is the law of the temple: All its surrounding territory on top of the mountain will be most
holy.
Yes, this is the law of the temple.
And ye have not kept the charge of mine
holy things: but ye have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for
yourselves.
And you have not kept charge of My holy things, but have appointed others to keep charge of My sanctuary for you.’
And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
They must not approach Me to serve Me as priests or come near any of My holy things or the most holy things. They will bear the shame of the abominations they have committed.
And when they go forth into the utter court, even into the utter court to the people, they shall put off their garments wherein they ministered, and lay them in the
holy chambers, and they shall put on other garments; and they shall not
sanctify the people with their garments.
When they go out to the outer court, to the people, they are to take off the garments in which they have ministered, leave them in the
holy chambers, and dress in other clothes so that they do not
transmit holiness to the people with their garments.
And they shall teach my people the difference between the
holy and
profane, and cause them to
discern between the unclean and the clean.
They are to teach My people the difference between the
holy and the common, and show them how to
discern between the clean and the unclean.
And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine
assemblies; and they shall
hallow my sabbaths.
In any dispute, they shall
officiate as judges and judge according to My ordinances. They must keep My laws and statutes regarding all My appointed feasts, and they must keep My Sabbaths
holy.
Moreover, when ye shall divide by lot the land for inheritance, ye shall offer an
oblation unto the LORD, an
holy portion of the land: the length shall be the length of five and twenty thousand reeds, and the breadth shall be ten thousand. This shall be
holy in all the borders thereof round about.
“When you divide the land by lot as an inheritance, you are to set aside a portion for the LORD, a holy portion of the land 25,000 cubits long and 20,000 cubits wide. This entire tract of land will be holy.
And of this measure shalt thou measure the length of five and twenty thousand, and the breadth of ten thousand: and in it shall be the sanctuary and the most holy place.
From this holy portion, you are to measure off a length of 25,000 cubits and a width of 10,000 cubits, and in it will be the sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.
The holy portion of the land shall be for the priests the ministers of the sanctuary, which shall come near to minister unto the LORD: and it shall be a place for their houses, and an holy place for the sanctuary.
It will be a holy portion of the land to be used by the priests who minister in the sanctuary, who draw near to minister before the LORD. It will be a place for their houses, as well as a holy area for the sanctuary.
And ye shall
appoint the possession of the city five thousand broad, and five and twenty thousand long, over against the
oblation of the
holy portion: it shall be for the whole house of Israel.
As the property of the city, you are to set aside an area 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, adjacent to the holy district. It will belong to the whole house of Israel.
And a portion shall be for the prince on the one side and on the other side of the
oblation of the
holy portion, and of the possession of the city, before the
oblation of the
holy portion, and before the possession of the city, from the west side westward, and from the east side eastward: and the length shall be over against one of the portions, from the west border unto the east border.
Now the prince will have the area bordering each side of the area formed by the
holy district and the property of the city, extending westward from the western side and eastward from the eastern side, running
lengthwise from the western boundary to the eastern boundary and parallel to one of the
tribal portions.
After he brought me through the entry, which was at the side of the gate, into the holy chambers of the priests, which looked toward the north: and, behold, there was a place on the two sides westward.
Then the man brought me through the entrance at the side of the gate into the holy chambers facing north, which belonged to the priests, and he showed me a place there at the far western end
Then said he unto me, This is the place where the priests shall
boil the
trespass offering and the sin offering, where they shall
bake the meat offering; that they bear them not out into the utter court, to
sanctify the people.
and said to me, “This is the place where the priests shall
boil the guilt offering and the sin offering, and where they shall
bake the grain offering, so that they do not bring them into the outer court and
transmit holiness to the people.”
And for them, even for the priests, shall be this
holy oblation; toward the north five and twenty thousand in length, and toward the west ten thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten thousand in breadth, and toward the south five and twenty thousand in length: and the sanctuary of the LORD shall be in the midst thereof.
This will be the holy portion for the priests. It will be 25,000 cubits long on the north side, 10,000 cubits wide on the west side, 10,000 cubits wide on the east side, and 25,000 cubits long on the south side. In the center will be the sanctuary of the LORD.
And this
oblation of the land that is offered shall be unto them a thing most
holy by the border of the Levites.
It will be a special portion for them set apart from the land, a most holy portion adjacent to the territory of the Levites.
And they shall not sell of it, neither exchange, nor
alienate the firstfruits of the land: for it is
holy unto the LORD.
They must not sell or exchange any of it, and they must not transfer this best part of the land, for it is holy to the LORD.
And the residue in length over against the
oblation of the
holy portion shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward: and it shall be over against the
oblation of the
holy portion; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that serve the city.
The remainder of the length bordering the holy portion and running adjacent to it will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city.
All the
oblation shall be five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand: ye shall offer the
holy oblation foursquare, with the possession of the city.
The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits by 25,000 cubits. You are to set apart the holy portion, along with the city property.
And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the
holy oblation, and of the possession of the city, over against the five and twenty thousand of the
oblation toward the east border, and westward over against the five and twenty thousand toward the west border, over against the portions for the prince: and it shall be the
holy oblation; and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof.
The remaining area on both sides of the
holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the
tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the
holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. And in the center of them will be the
holy portion and the sanctuary of the temple.
And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with
miry clay, they shall
mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not
cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
As you saw the iron mixed with clay, so the peoples will
mix with one another, but will not
hold together any more than iron mixes with clay.
But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
But at last, into my presence came Daniel (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods). And I told him the dream:
O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.
“O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the
holy gods is in you and that no
mystery baffles you. So explain to me the visions I saw in my dream, and their interpretation.
I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;
As I lay on my bed, I also saw in the visions of my mind a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven.
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the
holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
This decision is the decree of the watchers, the
verdict declared by the
holy ones, so that the living will know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes, setting over it the lowliest of men.’
This dream I king
Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof,
forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the
holy gods is in thee.
This is the dream that I, King
Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my kingdom can
interpret it for me. But you are able, because the spirit of the
holy gods is in you.”
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an
holy one coming down from heaven, and saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a
holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the
holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the
holy gods in him. In the days of your father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own father, the king,
But hast lifted up
thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have
drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not
glorified:
Instead, you have
exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. The vessels from His house were brought to you, and as you
drank wine from them with your nobles, wives, and concubines, you praised your gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you have failed to
glorify the God who
holds in His hand your very breath and all your ways.
Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the
transgression of
desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be
trodden under foot?
Then I heard a
holy one speaking, and another
holy one said to him, “How long until the
fulfillment of the vision of the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes
desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary and of the host to be
trampled?”
And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall
prosper, and
practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the
holy people.
His power will be great, but it will not be his own. He will cause terrible destruction and succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy the mighty men along with the holy people.
O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I
beseech thee, let thine anger and thy
fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy
holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the
iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us.
O Lord, in keeping with all Your righteous acts, I pray that Your anger and wrath may turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your
holy mountain; for because of our sins and the
iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all around us.
And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and
confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my
supplication before the LORD my God for the
holy mountain of my God;
While I was speaking, praying,
confessing my sin and that of my people Israel, and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning His
holy mountain—
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy
holy city, to finish the
transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make
reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in
everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to
anoint the most
Holy.
Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and your
holy city to stop their
transgression, to put an end to sin, to make
atonement for iniquity, to bring in
everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to
anoint the Most
Holy Place.
But I will
shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that
holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
But first I will tell you what is inscribed in the Book of Truth. Yet no one has the courage to support me against these, except Michael your prince.
He shall enter
peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall
scatter among them the prey, and
spoil, and riches:
yea, and he shall
forecast his devices against the strong
holds, even for a time.
In a time of peace, he will
invade the richest provinces and do what his fathers and forefathers never did. He will
lavish plunder,
loot, and wealth on his followers, and he will plot against the strongholds—but only for a time.
Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land.
The king of the North will return to his land with great wealth, but his heart will be set against the holy covenant; so he will do damage and return to his own land.
For the ships of
Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be
grieved, and return, and have
indignation against the
holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that
forsake the
holy covenant.
Ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn back and
rage against the
holy covenant and do damage. So he will return and show favor to those who
forsake the
holy covenant.
Now when they shall fall, they shall be
holpen with a little help: but many shall
cleave to them with
flatteries.
Now when they fall, they will be granted a little help, but many will join them
insincerely.
Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
He will attack the strongest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many and distributing the land for a price.
