So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted
stolen with me.
So my
honesty will
testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not
speckled or
spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-colored, they will be considered
stolen.”
We are all one man’s sons; we are true men, thy servants are no
spies.
We are all sons of one man. Your servants are
honest men, not
spies.”
If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:
If you are
honest, leave one of your brothers in
custody while the rest of you go and take back grain to
relieve the hunger of your households.
And we said unto him, We are true men; we are no
spies:
And the man, the lord of the country, said unto us,
Hereby shall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food for the famine of your households, and be gone:
Then the man who is lord of the land said to us, ‘This is how I will know whether you are
honest: Leave one brother with me, take food to
relieve the hunger of your households, and go.
And bring your youngest brother unto me: then shall I know that ye are no
spies, but that ye are true men: so will I deliver you your brother, and ye shall
traffick in the land.
But bring your youngest brother back to me so I will know that you are not
spies but
honest men. Then I will give your brother back to you, and you can trade in the land.’”
And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little
balm, and a little
honey, spices, and
myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your packs and carry them down as a gift for the man—a little
balm and a little
honey, spices and
myrrh, pistachios and almonds.
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and
honey; unto the place of the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites.
And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and
honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
And when the LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Amorites,
Hivites, and Jebusites—the land He
swore to your fathers that He would give you, a land flowing with milk and
honey—you shall keep this service in this month.
And the house of Israel called the name thereof
Manna: and it was like
coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like
wafers made with
honey.
Now the house of Israel called the bread
manna. It was white like
coriander seed and tasted like
wafers made with
honey.
Unto a land flowing with milk and
honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I
consume thee in the way.
Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with
leaven: for ye shall burn no
leaven, nor any
honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.
No grain offering that you present to the LORD may be made with
leaven, for you are not to burn any
leaven or
honey as an offering made by fire to the LORD.
Just balances, just weights, a just
ephah, and a just
hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
You shall maintain
honest scales and weights, an
honest ephah, and an
honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
But I have said unto you, Ye shall
inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and
honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.
But I have told you that you will
inherit their land, since I will give it to you as an inheritance—a land flowing with milk and
honey. I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the peoples.
And they told him, and said, We came unto the land
whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and
honey; and this is the fruit of it.
And they gave this account to Moses: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and indeed, it is flowing with milk and honey. Here is some of its fruit!
If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
If the LORD delights in us, He will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and He will give it to us.
Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and
honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make
thyself altogether a prince over us?
Is it not enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and
honey to kill us in the wilderness? Must you also
appoint yourself as ruler over us?
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and
honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards:
wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.
Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and
honey or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you
gouge out the eyes of these men? No, we will not come!”
Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase
mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and
honey.
Hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe them, so that you may
prosper and multiply greatly in a land flowing with milk and
honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;
a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey;
And that ye may
prolong your days in the land, which the LORD
sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and
honey.
and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD
swore to your fathers to give them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and
honey.
But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be
lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
You must maintain accurate and
honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey.
And He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Look down from thy holy
habitation, from heaven, and
bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth with milk and
honey.
Look down from Your holy
habitation, from heaven, and
bless Your people Israel and the land You have given us as You
swore to our fathers—a land flowing with milk and
honey.”
And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.
Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
For when I shall have brought them into the land which I
sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and
honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and
waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and
provoke me, and break my covenant.
When I have brought them into the land that I
swore to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and
honey, they will eat their fill and
prosper. Then they will turn to other gods and worship them, and they will
reject Me and break My covenant.
He made him
ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to
suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the
flinty rock;
He made him
ride on the heights of the land and fed him the produce of the field. He
nourished him with
honey from the rock and oil from the
flinty crag,
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD
sware that he would not
shew them the land, which the LORD
sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and
honey.
For the Israelites had
wandered in the wilderness forty years, until all the nation’s men of war who had come out of Egypt had died, since they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD
vowed never to let them see the land He had
sworn to their fathers to give us, a land flowing with milk and
honey.
Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to
spy out the land, and I brought back to him an
honest report.
Now therefore, if ye have done truly and
sincerely, in that ye have made
Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;
Now if you have acted faithfully and
honestly in making
Abimelech king, if you have done well by Jerubbaal and his family, and if you have done to him as he deserves—
if you have acted faithfully and
honestly toward Jerubbaal and his house this day, then may you
rejoice in
Abimelech, and he in you.
And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the
carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a
swarm of bees and
honey in the
carcase of the lion.
When
Samson returned later to take her, he left the road to see the lion’s
carcass, and in it was a
swarm of bees, along with their
honey.
And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the
honey out of the
carcase of the lion.
So he
scooped some
honey into his hands and
ate it as he went along. And when he returned to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they
ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the
honey from the lion’s
carcass.
And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than
honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not
plowed with my
heifer, ye had not found out my
riddle.
Before
sunset on the seventh day, the men of the city said to
Samson: “What is sweeter than
honey? And what is stronger than a lion?” So he said to them: “If you had not
plowed with my
heifer, you would not have
solved my
riddle!”
And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground.
Then all the troops entered the forest, and there was honey on the ground.
And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.
And when they entered the forest and saw the flowing honey, not one of them put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath.
But
Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and
dipped it in an
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were
enlightened.
Jonathan, however, had not heard that his father had charged the people with the oath. So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand,
dipped it into the
honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes
brightened.
Then said
Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been
enlightened, because I tasted a little of this
honey.
“My father has brought trouble to the land,”
Jonathan replied. “Just look at how my eyes have
brightened because I tasted a little of this
honey.
Then Saul said to
Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And
Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little
honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.
“Tell me what you have done,” Saul commanded him. So
Jonathan told him, “I only tasted a little
honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must die?”
And
honey, and butter, and sheep, and
cheese of
kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is
hungry, and
weary, and
thirsty, in the wilderness.
honey, curds, sheep, and
cheese from the
herd for David and his people to eat. For they said, “The people have become
hungry, exhausted, and
thirsty in the wilderness.”
And take with thee ten
loaves, and cracknels, and a
cruse of
honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.
Take with you ten
loaves of bread, some cakes, and a
jar of
honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the boy.”
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of
honey, that ye may live, and not die: and
hearken not unto
Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
until I come and take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and
honey—so that you may live and not die. But do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for he misleads you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’
And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and
honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the
tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.
As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously provided the firstfruits of the grain, new wine, oil, and
honey, and of all the produce of the field, and they brought in an abundance—a
tithe of everything.
How forcible are right words! but what
doth your
arguing reprove?
How painful are
honest words! But what does your argument prove?
He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the
brooks of
honey and butter.
He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with
honey and
cream.
More to be desired are they than gold,
yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than
honey and the
honeycomb.
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than
honey, than
honey from the
comb.
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.
But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
How sweet are thy words unto my taste!
yea, sweeter than
honey to my mouth!
How sweet are Your words to my taste— sweeter than honey in my mouth!
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an
honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
Though the lips of the forbidden woman
drip honey and her speech is smoother than oil,
A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
A just weight and balance are the LORD’S: all the weights of the
bag are his work.
Honest scales and balances are from the LORD; all the weights in the
bag are His
concern.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
Righteous lips are a king’s delight, and he who speaks
honestly is beloved.
Pleasant words are as an
honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Also to
punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for
equity.
My son, eat thou
honey, because it is good; and the
honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
Eat
honey, my son, for it is good, and the
honeycomb is sweet to your taste.
Every man shall
kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
An
honest answer given is like a
kiss on the lips.
Hast thou found
honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled
therewith, and
vomit it.
If you find
honey, eat just what you need, lest you have too much and
vomit it up.
It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
It is not good to eat too much honey or to search out one’s own glory.
The full soul loatheth an
honeycomb; but to the
hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
The soul that is full loathes
honey, but to a
hungry soul, any bitter thing is sweet.
Thy lips, O my
spouse, drop as the
honeycomb:
honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of
Lebanon.
I am come into my garden, my sister, my
spouse: I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice; I have eaten my
honeycomb with my
honey; I have
drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink,
yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.
I have come to my garden, my sister, my
bride; I have gathered my
myrrh with my
spice. I have eaten my
honeycomb with my
honey; I have
drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends, and drink; drink freely, O beloved.
Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
By the time He knows enough to
reject evil and choose good, He will be eating curds and
honey.
And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.
and from the abundance of milk they give, he will eat curds; for all who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.
None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
No one calls for justice; no one pleads his case
honestly. They
rely on empty pleas; they tell lies; they conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity.
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth
afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is turned away, and righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
That I may perform the oath which I have
sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and
honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
This was in order to establish the oath I
swore to your forefathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and
honey, as it is to this day.” “
Amen, LORD,” I answered.
And hast given them this land, which thou
didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and
honey;
You gave them this land that You had
sworn to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and
honey.
But ten men were found among them that said unto
Ishmael,
Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of
honey. So he
forbare, and
slew them not among their brethren.
But ten of the men among them said to
Ishmael, “Do not kill us, for we have hidden
treasure in the field—wheat, barley, oil, and
honey!” So he
refrained from killing them with the others.
And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy
belly to eat, and fill thy
bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as
honey for sweetness.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “eat and fill your stomach with this
scroll I am giving you.” So I
ate, and it was as sweet as
honey in my mouth.
Thus
wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy
raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and
broidered work; thou
didst eat fine flour, and
honey, and oil: and thou
wast exceeding beautiful, and thou
didst prosper into a kingdom.
So you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was made of fine linen, silk, and
embroidered cloth. You
ate fine flour,
honey, and oil. You became very beautiful and rose to be queen.
My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and
honey,
wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD.
And you set before them as a pleasing
aroma the food I had given you—the fine flour, oil, and
honey that I had fed you. That is what happened, declares the Lord GOD.
In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had
espied for them, flowing with milk and
honey, which is the glory of all lands:
On that day I
swore to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and
honey, the glory of all lands.
Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
Moreover, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land that I had given them—a land flowing with milk and
honey, the glory of all lands—
Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and
honey, and oil, and
balm.
Judah and the land of Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith, cakes and
honey, oil and
balm for your
merchandise.
Ye shall have just balances, and a just
ephah, and a just bath.
You must use
honest scales, a just
ephah, and a just bath.
And the same John had his
raiment of
camel’s hair, and a
leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild
honey.
John
wore a garment of
camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his
waist. His food was locusts and wild
honey.
And they sent out unto him their disciples with the
Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
They sent their disciples to Him along with the
Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are
honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You seek favor from no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
And John was clothed with
camel’s hair, and with a
girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild
honey;
John was clothed in
camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his
waist. His food was locusts and wild
honey.
And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
“Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are
honest and seek favor from no one. Indeed, You are impartial and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them or not?”
But that on the good ground are they, which in an
honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with
patience.
But the seeds on good soil are those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word,
cling to it, and by
persevering produce a crop.
So they gave Him a piece of
broiled fish,
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of
honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may
appoint over this business.
Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men confirmed to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will
appoint this
responsibility to them
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things
honest in the sight of all men.
Do not repay
anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of
everybody.
Providing for
honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
For we are taking great care to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord, but also in the eyes of men.
Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is
honest, though we be as reprobates.
Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong—not that we will appear to have stood the test, but that you will do what is right, even if we appear to have failed.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy—think on these things.
That ye may walk
honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
Then you will
behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on
anyone.
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all
godliness and
honesty.
for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead
tranquil and quiet lives in all
godliness and dignity.
Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live
honestly.
Pray for us; we are
convinced that we have a clear conscience and desire to live
honorably in every way.
Having your conversation
honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold,
glorify God in the day of
visitation.
Conduct
yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they
slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and
glorify God on the day He visits us.
And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy
belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as
honey.
And I went to the angel and said, “Give me the small
scroll.” “Take it and eat it,” he said. “It will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as
honey.”
And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and
ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as
honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my
belly was bitter.
So I took the small
scroll from the angel’s hand and
ate it; and it was as sweet as
honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned bitter.
And as many fountains flowing with milk and
honey, and seven mighty mountains,
whereupon there grow roses and
lilies, whereby I will fill thy children with joy.
Then
Tobit said, Thou art
welcome, brother; be not now
angry with me, because I have enquired to know thy tribe and thy family; for thou art my brother, of an
honest and good stock: for I know
Ananias and Jonathas, sons of that great Samaias, as we went together to Jerusalem to worship, and offered the
firstborn, and the tenths of the fruits; and they were not
seduced with the error of our brethren: my brother, thou art of a good stock.
And blessed him, and said unto him, Thou art the son of an
honest and good man. But when he had heard that
Tobit was blind, he was sorrowful, and
wept.
