threescore men of the people of the
land that were found in the city:

enlisted the people of the
land, and sixty men who were found in the city.

land.

hermon (that is, Senir, also known as Mount

And they
transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a
whoring after the gods of the people of the
land, whom God destroyed before them.

prostituted themselves with the gods of the peoples of the
land, whom God had destroyed before them.

Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the
land.

And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:
And he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so that they may join us.

Saying, Unto thee will I give the
land of
Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;
‘I will give you the
land of
Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.’
When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it.
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,
And I have been with thee
whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
And David said, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the
land of the children of
Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when David’s servants arrived in the
land of the
Ammonites to
console him,
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the
land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Have not his servants come to you to
explore the
land,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
And it came to pass, that after the year was
expired, at the time that kings go out to battle,
Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of
Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried at Jerusalem. And
Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
In the spring, at the time when kings march out to war,
Joab led out the army and
ravaged the
land of the
Ammonites. He came to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. And
Joab attacked Rabbah and
demolished it.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the
land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of plague upon the
land, with the angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the
land of Israel; and he set masons to
hew wrought stones to build the house of God.

And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding
magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all
lands. Therefore I must make preparations for it.” So David made
lavish preparations before his death.
Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.
“Is not the LORD your God with you, and has He not granted you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and His people.
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good
land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good
land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
together with all the details of his reign, his might, and the circumstances that came upon him and Israel and all the kingdoms of the lands.
And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the
land of Israel, after the numbering
wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the
land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
Then hear thou from the heavens, and
forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the
land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your people Israel. May You restore them to the
land You gave to them and their fathers.
Then hear thou from heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy
land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You send rain on the
land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
When famine or plague comes upon the
land, or
blight or
mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemies
besiege them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may come,
That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
so that they may fear You and walk in Your ways all the days they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away
captives unto a
land far off or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to a
land far or near,
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the
land whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the
land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they come to their senses in the
land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the
land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the
land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their
land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the
land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the
land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to
devour the
land, or if I send
pestilence among my people;
If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the
locust to
devour the
land, or if I send a plague among My people,
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will
heal their
land.
and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven,
forgive their sin, and
heal their
land.
Then will I
pluck them up by the roots out of my
land which I have given them; and this house, which I have
sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a
proverb and a
byword among all nations.
then I will
uproot Israel from the soil I have given them, and I will
banish from My presence this temple I have
sanctified for My Name. I will make it an object of
scorn and
ridicule among all the peoples.
And this house, which is high, shall be an
astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this
land, and unto this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and say, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this
land and to this temple?’
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the
land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the
land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And Baalath, and all the store cities that Solomon had, and all the
chariot cities, and the cities of the
horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in
Lebanon, and throughout all the
land of his dominion.
as well as Baalath, all the store cities that belonged to Solomon, and all the cities for his
chariots and horses—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem,
Lebanon, and throughout the
land of his dominion.
But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, them did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
Then went Solomon to Ezion-
geber, and to Eloth, at the sea side in the
land of
Edom.
Then Solomon went to Ezion-
geber and to Eloth on the coast of
Edom.
And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
And the king made of the
algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king’s palace, and harps and
psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the
land of Judah.
The king made the
algum wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had anything like them been seen in the
land of Judah.)
And king Solomon gave to the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king. So she turned, and went away to her own
land, she and her servants.
King Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—far more than she had brought the king. Then she left and returned to her own country, along with her servants.
Beside that which
chapmen and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.
not including the revenue from the merchants and traders. And all the Arabian kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.
And he reigned over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.
He reigned over all the kings from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.
And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all lands.
Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from all the lands.
Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
Nevertheless, they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving Me and serving the kings of other lands.”
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other
lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other
lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
So
Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in his
stead. In his days the
land was quiet ten years.
Then
Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Asa reigned in his place, and in his days the
land was at peace for ten years.
And he built
fenced cities in Judah: for the
land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
Because the
land was at peace,
Asa built fortified cities in Judah. In those days no one made war with him, because the LORD had given him rest.
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the
land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of Judah, “Let us build these cities and
surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The
land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
In those days there was no safety for travelers, because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the
land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole
land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
And he placed forces in all the
fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the
land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which
Asa his father had taken.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the
land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father
Asa had captured.
And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the
lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against
Jehoshaphat.
And the
dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the
lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against
Jehoshaphat.
Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
However, some good is found in you, for you have removed the Asherah poles from the land and have set your heart on seeking God.”
And he set judges in the
land throughout all the
fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
He appointed judges in the land, in each of the fortified cities of Judah.
Art not thou our God, who
didst drive out the inhabitants of this
land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
Our God, did You not drive out the inhabitants of this
land before Your people Israel and give it
forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
They have lived in the land and have built in it a sanctuary for Your Name, saying,
And now, behold, the children of
Ammon and Moab and mount
Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel
invade, when they came out of the
land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
And now, here are the men of
Ammon, Moab, and Mount
Seir, whom You did not let Israel
invade when they came out of the
land of Egypt; but Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them.
And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of the lands when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.
And he was with them
hid in the house of God six years: and
Athaliah reigned over the
land.
And
Joash remained hidden with them in the house of God for six years while
Athaliah ruled the
land.
And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his
pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the
trumpets by the king: and all the people of the
land rejoiced, and sounded with
trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then
Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
And she looked out and saw the king standing by his
pillar at the entrance. The officers and trumpeters were beside the king, and all the people of the
land were
rejoicing and blowing
trumpets, while the singers with musical instruments were leading the praises. Then
Athaliah tore her clothes and
screamed, “Treason, treason!”
And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.
He also took with him the commanders of hundreds, the nobles, the rulers of the people, and all the people of the
land, and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD and entered the royal palace through the Upper Gate. They seated King
Joash on the royal throne,
And all the people of the
land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain
Athaliah with the sword.
and all the people of the
land rejoiced. And the city was quiet, because
Athaliah had been put to the sword.
And Uzziah the king was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a
leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the
land.
So King Uzziah was a
leper until the day of his death. He lived in
isolation,
leprous and cut off from the house of the LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to
govern the people of the
land.
For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find
compassion before them that lead them
captive, so that they shall come again into this
land: for the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.
For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and sons will receive mercy in the presence of their captors and will return to this
land. For the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful; He will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.”
And the couriers traveled from city to city through the
land of Ephraim and
Manasseh as far as
Zebulun; but the people
scorned and
mocked them.
And all the congregation of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the
land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah,
rejoiced.
Then the whole assembly of Judah
rejoiced along with the priests and Levites and the whole assembly that had come from Israel, including the foreigners who had come from Israel and those who lived in Judah.
So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the
brook that ran through the midst of the
land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
Many people assembled and stopped up all the springs and the stream that flowed through the
land. “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find
plenty of water?” they said.
Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Have the gods of these nations ever been able to deliver their land from my hand?
He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other
lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of
Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
He also wrote letters
mocking the LORD, the God of Israel, and saying against Him: “Just as the gods of the nations did not deliver their people from my hand, so the God of
Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand.”
And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own
land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own
bowels slew him there with the sword.
and the LORD sent an angel who
annihilated every mighty man of
valor and every leader and commander in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he withdrew to his own
land in disgrace. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons struck him down with the sword.
Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to
enquire of the wonder that was done in the
land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
And so when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the
land, God left him alone to test him, that He might know all that was in
Hezekiah’s heart.
Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the
land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take
heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
But the people of the
land slew all them that had
conspired against king Amon; and the people of the
land made
Josiah his son king in his
stead.
But the people of the
land killed all those who had
conspired against King Amon, and they made his son
Josiah king in his place.
And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the
graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the
land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
He
tore down the altars and Asherah poles,
crushed the idols to powder, and cut to pieces all the incense altars throughout the
land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
Now in the
eighteenth year of his reign, when he had
purged the
land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.
Now in the
eighteenth year of his reign, in order to
cleanse the
land and the temple,
Josiah sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.
And
Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that
pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Josiah removed all the abominations from all the
lands belonging to the Israelites, and he required
everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign they did not turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
Then the people of the
land took
Jehoahaz the son of
Josiah, and made him king in his father’s
stead in Jerusalem.
Then the people of the
land took
Jehoahaz son of
Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.
And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem, and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the king of Egypt
dethroned him in Jerusalem and imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the
land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay
desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil
threescore and ten years.
So the
land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the
desolation, until seventy years were completed, in
fulfillment of the word of the LORD through Jeremiah.
And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings
thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
They set up the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD—both the morning and evening burnt offerings—even though they feared the people of the land.
Then the people of the
land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
Then the people of the land set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to build.
And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the
filthiness of the heathen of the
land, to seek the LORD God of Israel, did eat,
The Israelites who had returned from exile
ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the peoples of the
land to seek the LORD, the God of Israel.
Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the
lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the
Canaanites, the
Hittites, the
Perizzites, the Jebusites, the
Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the
Amorites.
After these things had been accomplished, the leaders approached me and said, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the surrounding peoples whose abominations are like those of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Perizzites, Jebusites,
Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and
Amorites.
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those
lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
