Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide
thyself by the
brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
“
Leave here, turn eastward, and hide
yourself by the
Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.
And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee
whither I know not; and so when I come and tell
Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall
slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.
I do not know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off when I
leave you. Then when I go and tell
Ahab and he does not find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.
And
Elijah said unto
Elisha,
Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to
Bethel. And
Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not
leave thee. So they went down to
Bethel.
and
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to
Bethel.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not
leave you.” So they went down to
Bethel.
And
Elijah said unto him,
Elisha,
tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to
Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not
leave thee. So they came to
Jericho.
And
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to
Jericho.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not
leave you.” So they went to
Jericho.
And
Elijah said unto him,
Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not
leave thee. And they two went on.
And
Elijah said to
Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.” But
Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not
leave you.” So the two of them went on.
And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is
vexed within her: and the LORD hath
hid it from me, and hath not told me.
When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she
clung to his feet. Gehazi came over to
push her away, but the man of God said, “
Leave her alone, for her soul is in deep distress, and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me.”
And the mother of the child said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
And the mother of the boy said, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you
yourself live, I will not
leave you.” So he got up and followed her.
And his
servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall
leave thereof.
But his servant asked, “How am I to set twenty
loaves before a hundred men?” “Give it to the people to eat,” said
Elisha, “for this is what the LORD says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’”
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and
leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and
leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take
heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and
Asaph, and Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer; and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer. And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to
leave their position, because their fellow Levites made preparations for them.
Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place.
Leave this work on the house of God alone. Let the governor and elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.
And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to
leave us a
remnant to escape, and to give us a
nail in his holy place, that our God may
lighten our eyes, and give us a little
reviving in our
bondage.
But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the LORD our God to preserve for us a
remnant and to give us a
stake in His holy place. Even in our
bondage, our God has given us new life and light to our eyes.
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Never seek their peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, leaving it as an inheritance to your sons
forever.’
I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us
leave off this
usury.
I, as well as my brothers and my servants, have been
lending the people money and grain. Please, let us stop this
usury.
And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?
So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it to go down to you?”
And if the people of the land bring ware or any
victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not
buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would
leave the seventh year, and the
exaction of every debt.
When the people of the land bring
merchandise or any kind of grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will not
buy from them on a Sabbath or holy day. Every seventh year we will let the fields lie
fallow, and will
cancel every debt.
But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and
thirtieth year of
Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I
leave of the king:
While all this was happening, I was not in Jerusalem, because I had returned to
Artaxerxes king of Babylon in the thirty-second year of his reign. Some time later I obtained
leave from the king
I
loathe it; I would not live
alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
I
loathe my life! I would not live
forever.
Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
Will You never look away from me, or
leave me alone to
swallow my
spittle?
My soul is
weary of my life; I will
leave my
complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
“I
loathe my own life; I will express my
complaint and speak in the bitterness of my soul.
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
Yet they say to God: ‘Leave us alone! For we have no desire to know Your ways.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
Their young ones
thrive and grow up in the open field; they
leave and do not return.
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or
wilt thou
leave thy labour to him?
Can you
rely on his great strength? Will you
leave your hard work to him?
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
For she leaves her eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand.
He maketh a path to
shine after him; one would think the deep to be
hoary.
He
leaves a
glistening wake behind him; one would think the deep had white hair!
Let the enemy
persecute my soul, and take it;
yea, let him
tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust.
Selah.
then may my enemy pursue me and overtake me; may he
trample me to the ground and
leave my honor in the dust.
Selah For thou
wilt not
leave my soul in
hell; neither
wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
For You will not
abandon my soul to
Sheol, nor will You let Your Holy One see decay.
From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose
belly thou fillest with thy
hid treasure: they are full of children, and
leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
from such men, O LORD, by Your hand— from men of the world whose portion is in this life. May You fill the
bellies of Your
treasured ones and satisfy their sons, so they
leave their abundance to their children.
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help;
leave me not, neither
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
Hide not Your face from me, nor turn away Your servant in anger. You have been my helper; do not
leave me or
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
The LORD will not
leave him in his hand, nor
condemn him when he is judged.
the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned under judgment.
For he
seeth that wise men die, likewise the
fool and the
brutish person perish, and
leave their wealth to others.
For it is clear that wise men die, and the
foolish and the senseless both perish and
leave their wealth to others.
Wickedness is in the midst thereof:
deceit and
guile depart not from her streets.
Destruction is within; oppression and
deceit never
leave the streets.
I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.
I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors.
But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.
But my eyes are fixed on You, O GOD the Lord. In You I seek refuge; do not
leave my soul
defenseless.
Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
from those who leave the straight paths to walk in the ways of darkness,
Let not mercy and truth
forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
Never let loving devotion or faithfulness
leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the
tablet of your heart.
Leave your folly behind, and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.”
A good man
leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the
sinner is laid up for the just.
A good man
leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the
sinner’s wealth is passed to the righteous.
Correction is
grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
Discipline is harsh for him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die.
Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
If
anyone returns evil for good, evil will never
leave his house.
The beginning of
strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore
leave off
contention, before it be
meddled with.
To start a quarrel is to release a flood; so
abandon the dispute before it breaks out.
A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a
sweeping rain which
leaveth no food.
A destitute leader who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no food.
Yea, I
hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should
leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
I
hated all for which I had
toiled under the sun, because I must
leave it to the man who comes after me.
For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in
equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he
leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and he must give his portion to a man who has not worked for it, this too is
futile and a great evil.
Be not
hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth
whatsoever pleaseth him.
Do not
hasten to
leave his presence, and do not
persist in a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases.
If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.
If the ruler’s temper flares against you, do not
abandon your post, for calmness lays great offenses to rest.
For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
For you will become like an oak whose
leaves are
withered, like a garden without water.
But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a
teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their
leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
And though a tenth remains in the land, it will be burned again. As the
terebinth and oak
leave stumps when felled, so the holy seed will be a
stump in the land.”
And what will ye do in the day of
visitation, and in the
desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye
flee for help? and where will ye
leave your glory?
What will you do on the day of
reckoning when
devastation comes from
afar? To whom will you
flee for help? Where will you
leave your wealth?
Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it
upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
Behold, the LORD lays waste the earth and
leaves it in ruins. He will twist its surface and
scatter its inhabitants—
For the
vile person will speak
villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to
practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the
hungry, and he will cause the drink of the
thirsty to fail.
And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a
scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
All the stars of heaven will be dissolved. The
skies will be rolled up like a
scroll, and all their stars will fall like
withered leaves from the vine, like foliage from the fig tree.
Thus saith the LORD to his
anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have
holden, to
subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two
leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
This is what the LORD says to Cyrus His
anointed, whose right hand I have
grasped to
subdue nations before him, to disarm kings, to open the doors before him, so that the gates will not be shut:
Go ye forth of Babylon,
flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
Leave Babylon!
Flee from the Chaldeans! Declare it with a
shout of joy,
proclaim it, let it go out to the ends of the earth, saying, “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!”
For ye shall not go out with
haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward.
For you will not
leave in a
hurry nor
flee in
haste, for the LORD goes before you, and the God of Israel is your rear guard.
And ye shall
leave your name for a
curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall
slay thee, and call his servants by another name:
You will
leave behind your name as a
curse for My chosen ones, and the Lord GOD will
slay you; but to His servants He will give another name.
Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not
prosper in them.
Moreover, you will
leave that place with your hands on your head, for the LORD has rejected those you trust; you will not
prosper by their help.”
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly
polluted? but thou hast played the
harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
“If a man divorces his wife and she
leaves him to marry another, can he ever return to her? Would not such a land be completely
defiled? But you have played the
harlot with many lovers— and you would return to Me?” declares the LORD.
Oh that I had in the wilderness a
lodging place of
wayfaring men; that I might
leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of
treacherous men.
If only I had a traveler’s
lodge in the wilderness, I would
abandon my people and depart from them, for they are all adulterers, a crowd of faithless people.
Why shouldest thou be as a man
astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name;
leave us not.
Why are You like a man taken by surprise, like a
warrior powerless to save? Yet You are among us, O LORD, and we are called by Your name. Do not
forsake us!
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its
leaves are always green. It does not
worry in a year of
drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.
As the
partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall
leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a
fool.
Like a
partridge hatching eggs it did not lay is the man who makes a fortune unjustly. In the middle of his days his riches will desert him, and in the end he will be the
fool.”
Will a man
leave the snow of
Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be
forsaken?
Does the snow of
Lebanon ever
leave its rocky slopes? Or do its cool waters flowing from a distance ever run dry?
But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.
But the nation that will put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will
leave in its own land, to
cultivate it and reside in it, declares the LORD.”
For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations
whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not
leave thee altogether unpunished.
For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four
leaves, he cut it with the
penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the
hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the
hearth.
And as soon as Jehudi had read three or four columns,
Jehoiakim would cut them off with a
scribe’s knife and throw them into the
firepot, until the entire
scroll had been consumed by the fire.
Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there among the people.
Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and
suckling, out of Judah, to
leave you none to remain;
So now, this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such great
harm to
yourselves by cutting off from Judah man and woman, child and infant, leaving
yourselves without a
remnant?
Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations
whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not
leave thee wholly unpunished.
And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
O ye that dwell in Moab,
leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the
dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.
Abandon the towns and settle among the rocks, O dwellers of Moab! Be like a
dove that nests at the mouth of a cave.
If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not
leave some
gleaning grapes? if
thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.
If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not
leave some gleanings? Were
thieves to come in the night, would they not
steal only what they wanted?
Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.
Abandon your orphans; I will preserve their lives. Let your widows trust in Me.”
Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.
Come against her from the
farthest border. Break open her
granaries; pile her up like mounds of grain.
Devote her to destruction;
leave her no survivors.
So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall
bereave thee; and
pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.
I will send famine and wild beasts against you, and they will
leave you childless. Plague and
bloodshed will
sweep through you, and I will bring a sword against you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”
Yet will I
leave a
remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.
Yet I will
leave a
remnant, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the nations and throughout the lands.
But I will
leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the
pestilence; that they may declare all their abominations among the heathen
whither they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
But I will
spare a few of them from sword and famine and plague, so that in the nations to which they go, they can recount all their abominations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
If I cause
noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they
spoil it, so that it be
desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
Or if I send wild beasts through the land to
leave it childless and
desolate, with no man passing through it for fear of the beasts,
And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will level your mounds and
tear down your lofty shrines. They will strip off your clothes, take your fine
jewelry, and
leave you naked and bare.
Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it
prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the
leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to
pluck it up by the roots thereof.
So you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Will it
flourish? Will it not be uprooted and
stripped of its fruit so that it shrivels? All its foliage will wither! It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it up by its roots.
As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to
melt it; so will I gather you in mine anger and in my
fury, and I will
leave you there, and
melt you.
Just as one gathers silver, copper, iron, lead, and tin into the furnace to
melt with a
fiery blast, so I will gather you in My anger and wrath,
leave you there, and
melt you.
And they shall deal with thee
hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall
leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
They will treat you with hatred, take all for which you have worked, and
leave you naked and bare, so that the shame of your
prostitution will be exposed. Your
indecency and
promiscuity And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
I will leave you in the desert, you and all the fish of your streams. You will fall on the open field and will not be taken away or gathered for burial. I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air.
Then will I leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee.
I will
abandon you on the land and
hurl you into the open field. I will cause all the birds of the air to settle upon you, and all the beasts of the earth to eat their fill of you.
And when they entered unto the heathen,
whither they went, they
profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land.
And wherever they went among the nations, they
profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to
leave His land.’
And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel.
And the doors had two
leaves apiece, two turning
leaves; two
leaves for the one door, and two
leaves for the other door.
and each door had two
swinging panels. There were two panels for one door and two for the other.
And when they go forth into the utter court, even into the utter court to the people, they shall put off their garments wherein they ministered, and lay them in the holy chambers, and they shall put on other garments; and they shall not
sanctify the people with their garments.
When they go out to the outer court, to the people, they are to take off the garments in which they have ministered,
leave them in the holy chambers, and dress in other clothes so that they do not
transmit holiness to the people with their garments.
And the prince in the midst of them, when they go in, shall go in; and when they go forth, shall go forth.
When the people enter, the prince shall go in with them, and when they leave, he shall leave.
And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not
fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of all kinds will grow. Their
leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will be used for food and their
leaves for
healing.”
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and upon it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, in its branches the birds of the air nested, and from it every creature was fed.
He
cried aloud, and said thus,
Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches,
shake off his
leaves, and
scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:
He called out in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree and
chop off its branches; strip off its
leaves and
scatter its fruit. Let the beasts
flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.
Nevertheless
leave the
stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:
But
leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven and
graze with the beasts on the grass of the earth.
Whose
leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their
habitation:
whose foliage was beautiful and whose fruit was abundant, providing food for all, under which the beasts of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested—
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying,
Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet
leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
And you, O king, saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but
leave the
stump with its roots in the ground, and a band of iron and bronze around it, in the tender grass of the field. Let him be
drenched with the
dew of heaven, and
graze with the beasts of the field till seven times pass him by.’
And whereas they commanded to
leave the
stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
As for the command to
leave the
stump of the tree with its roots, your kingdom will be restored to you as soon as you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
