And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our
likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the
livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”
For God
doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
“For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become
like one of Us, knowing good and evil. And now, lest he reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live
forever...”

Seth.

Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and
beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed
Sodom and
Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD,
like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well watered
like the garden of the LORD,
like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed
Sodom and
Gomorrah.)
And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to
sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed
sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
“Get out of the way!” they replied. And they declared, “This one came here as a foreigner, and he is already acting like a judge! Now we will treat you worse than them.” And they pressed in on Lot and moved in to break down the door.
And he looked toward
Sodom and
Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and
beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

Sodom and
Gomorrah and all the land of the plain, and he saw the smoke rising from the land
like smoke from a furnace.
That in blessing I will
bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
I will surely
bless you, and I will multiply your descendants
like the stars in the sky and the sand on the
seashore. Your descendants will possess the gates of their enemies.
And the first came out red, all over
like an
hairy garment; and they called his name
Esau.
The first one came out red, covered with hair
like a fur coat; so they named him
Esau.
And he
discerned him not, because his hands were
hairy, as his brother
Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.
Isaac did not recognize him, because his hands were
hairy like those of his brother
Esau; so he blessed him.
And he came near, and
kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his
raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:

kissed him. When Isaac smelled his clothing, he blessed him and said: “
Ah, the smell of my son is
like the smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.
And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

And
Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast
stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as
captives taken with the sword?
Then
Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done? You have
deceived me and carried off my daughters
like captives of war!
And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
But You have said, ‘I will surely make you
prosper, and I will make your offspring
like the sand of the sea, too numerous to count.’”
And Jacob said,
Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou
wast pleased with me.
But Jacob insisted, “No, please! If I have found favor in your sight, then receive this gift from my hand. For indeed, I have seen your face, and it is
like seeing the face of God, since you have received me
favorably.
But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be

We will consent to this on one condition, that you become
circumcised like us—every one of your males.

And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel
bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as

like Ephraim and
Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim before
Manasseh.
Judah is a lion’s
whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he
stooped down, he
couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall
rouse him up?
Judah is a young lion— my son, you return from the prey.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down;
like a
lioness, who
dares to
rouse him?
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
As for you, what you intended against me for evil, God intended for good, in order to
accomplish a day
like this—to preserve the lives of many people.
And the
midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered
ere the
midwives come in unto them.

like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before a
midwife arrives.”

morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none
like unto the LORD our God.
“
Tomorrow,” Pharaoh answered. “May it be as you say,” Moses replied, “so that you may know that there is no one
like the LORD our God.
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
Otherwise, I will send all My plagues against you and your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.
So there was
hail, and fire mingled with the
hail, very
grievous, such as there was none
like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
The
hail fell and the
lightning continued
flashing through it. The
hail was so severe that nothing
like it had ever been seen in all the land of Egypt from the time it became a nation.
And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.

And when a stranger shall
sojourn with thee, and will keep the
passover to the LORD, let all his males be
circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no
uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
The depths have covered them: they
sank into the bottom as a stone.
The depths have covered them; they
sank there
like a stone.
And in the greatness of thine
excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as
stubble.
You overthrew Your
adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning wrath; it consumed them
like stubble.
And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an
heap, and the depths were
congealed in the heart of the sea.
At the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up;
like a wall the currents stood firm; the depths
congealed in the heart of the sea.
Thou
didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they
sank as lead in the mighty waters.
But You
blew with Your breath, and the sea covered them. They
sank like lead in the mighty waters.
Who is
like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is
like thee, glorious in
holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Who among the gods is
like You, O LORD? Who is
like You—
majestic in
holiness,
revered with praises, performing wonders?
And the house of Israel called the name thereof
Manna: and it was

like wafers made with honey.
And mount
Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount
quaked greatly.
Mount
Sinai was completely
enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had descended on it in fire. And the smoke rose
like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain
quaked violently.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any
graven image, or any
likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
You shall not make for
yourself an
idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his
dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
You shall do likewise with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but on the eighth day you are to give them to Me.
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In
like manner thou shalt deal with thy
vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie
fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the wild animals may
consume what they leave. Do the same with your
vineyard and olive
grove.
And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a
paved work of a
sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.
and they saw the God of Israel. Under His feet was a work
like a
pavement made of
sapphire, as clear as the sky itself.
And the sight of the glory of the LORD was
like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

like a
consuming fire on the mountaintop in the eyes of the Israelites.
Three
bowls made
like unto almonds, with a
knop and a flower in one branch; and three
bowls made
like almonds in the other branch, with a
knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the
candlestick.
There are to be three cups shaped
like almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extend from the lampstand.
And in the
candlestick shall be four
bowls made
like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers.
And on the lampstand there shall be four cups shaped
like almond blossoms with buds and petals.
And thou shalt make loops of blue upon the edge of the one
curtain from the
selvedge in the coupling; and
likewise shalt thou make in the
uttermost edge of another
curtain, in the coupling of the second.
Make loops of blue material on the edge of the end
curtain in the first set, and do the same for the end
curtain in the second set.
And likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings of an hundred cubits long, and his twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.
Likewise there are to be curtains on the north side, a hundred cubits long, with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and with silver hooks and bands on the posts.
With the work of an
engraver in stone,
like the engravings of a
signet, shalt thou
engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold.
Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a
gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold
filigree settings.
And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names,
like the engravings of a
signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.
The twelve stones are to correspond to the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
For the breastpiece, make
braided chains
like cords of pure gold.
And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of
woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an
habergeon, that it be not rent.
with an opening at its top in the center. Around the opening shall be a
woven collar with an opening
like that of a garment, so that it will not
tear.
And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it,
like the engravings of a
signet,
HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
You are to make a plate of pure gold and
engrave on it as on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD.
Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.
It must not be used to
anoint an ordinary man, and you must not make anything
like it with the same formula. It is holy, and it must be holy to you.
Whosoever compoundeth any
like it, or
whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.
Anyone who mixes
perfume like it or puts it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices,
stacte, and
onycha, and
galbanum; these sweet spices with pure
frankincense: of each shall there be a
like weight:
Whosoever shall make
like unto that, to smell
thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.
Anyone who makes something
like it to enjoy its
fragrance shall be cut off from his people.”
And the LORD said unto Moses,
Hew thee two tables of stone
like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “
Chisel out two stone tablets
like the originals, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.
And he
hewed two tables of stone
like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount
Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.
So Moses
chiseled out two stone tablets
like the originals. He rose early in the morning, and taking the two stone tablets in his hands, he went up Mount
Sinai as the LORD had commanded him.
And he made loops of blue on the edge of one
curtain from the
selvedge in the coupling:
likewise he made in the
uttermost side of another
curtain, in the coupling of the second.
He made loops of blue material on the edge of the end
curtain in the first set, and also on the end
curtain in the second set.
Three
bowls made after the fashion of almonds in one branch, a
knop and a flower; and three
bowls made
like almonds in another branch, a
knop and a flower: so throughout the six branches going out of the
candlestick.
There were three cups shaped
like almond blossoms on the first branch, each with buds and petals, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches that extended from the lampstand.
And in the
candlestick were four
bowls made
like almonds, his knops, and his flowers:
And on the lampstand were four cups shaped
like almond blossoms with buds and petals.
And the hanging for the gate of the court was
needlework, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine
twined linen: and twenty cubits was the length, and the height in the breadth was five cubits, answerable to the hangings of the court.
The
curtain for the entrance to the
courtyard was
embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely
spun linen. It was twenty cubits long and,
like the curtains of the
courtyard, five cubits high,
And they wrought
onyx stones inclosed in ouches of gold,
graven, as signets are
graven, with the names of the children of Israel.
They mounted the
onyx stones in gold
filigree settings, engraved
like a seal with the names of the sons of Israel.
He made the breastpiece with the same
workmanship as the
ephod, with gold, with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely
spun linen.
And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names,
like the engravings of a
signet, every one with his name, according to the twelve tribes.
The twelve stones corresponded to the names of the sons of Israel. Each stone was engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
For the breastpiece they made
braided chains
like cords of pure gold.
And there was an hole in the midst of the
robe, as the hole of an
habergeon, with a band round about the hole, that it should not
rend.
with an opening in the center of the
robe like that of a garment, with a
collar around the opening so that it would not
tear.
And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing,
like to the engravings of a
signet,
HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
They also made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and they engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD.
And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an
atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be
forgiven him.
He must burn all its fat on the altar,
like the fat of the peace offerings; thus the priest will make
atonement for that man’s sin, and he will be
forgiven.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath
sinned in one of these, and it shall be
forgiven him: and the
remnant shall be the priest’s, as a meat offering.
In this way the priest will make
atonement for him for any of these sins he has committed, and he will be
forgiven. The remainder will belong to the priest,
like the grain offering.”
It shall not be
baken with
leaven. I have given it unto them for their portion of my offerings made by fire; it is most holy, as is the sin offering, and as the
trespass offering.
It must not be
baked with
leaven; I have assigned it as their portion of My offerings made by fire. It is most holy,
like the sin offering and the guilt offering.
Likewise this is the law of the
trespass offering: it is most holy.
“Now this is the law of the guilt offering, which is most holy:
As the sin offering is, so is the
trespass offering: there is one law for them: the priest that maketh
atonement therewith shall have it.
The guilt offering is
like the sin offering; the same law applies to both. It belongs to the priest who makes
atonement with it.
And all the meat offering that is
baken in the
oven, and all that is dressed in the
fryingpan, and in the pan, shall be the priest’s that offereth it.
Likewise, every grain offering that is
baked in an
oven or
cooked in a pan or on a
griddle belongs to the priest who presents it,
And he brought the people’s offering, and took the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and
slew it, and offered it for sin, as the first.
Aaron then presented the people’s offering. He took the male goat for the people’s sin offering, slaughtered it, and offered it for sin like the first one.
When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a
scab, or a bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh
like the plague of
leprosy; then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests:
“When someone has a swelling or
rash or bright spot on his skin that could become an
infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest.
Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the rising of the
sore be white reddish in his
bald head, or in his
bald forehead, as the
leprosy appeareth in the skin of the flesh;
The priest is to examine him, and if the swelling of the
infection on his
bald head or
forehead is reddish-white
like a skin disease,
And he shall
slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place: for as the sin offering is the priest’s, so is the
trespass offering: it is most holy:
Then he is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering and burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy.
And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, It seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house:
the owner of the house shall come and tell the priest, ‘Something
like mildew has appeared in my house.’
Every bed
whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and
whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.
Any bed on which she lies or any furniture on which she sits during the days of her discharge will be unclean,
like her bed during her
menstrual period.
And as a yearly
hired servant shall he be with him: and the other shall not rule with rigour over him in thy sight.
He shall be treated
like a man
hired from year to year, but a foreign owner must not rule over him harshly in your sight.
And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
I will break down your
stubborn pride and make your sky
like iron and your land
like bronze,
But the field, when it goeth out in the jubile, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest’s.
When the field is released in the
Jubilee, it will become holy,
like a field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests.
And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning.
On the day that the tabernacle, the Tent of the Testimony, was set up, the cloud covered it and appeared like fire above the tabernacle from evening until morning.
So it was
alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.
It remained that way continually; the cloud would cover the tabernacle by day, and at night it would appear like fire.
Now the
manna resembled
coriander seed, and its appearance was
like that of gum resin.
And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and
baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
The people walked around and gathered it, ground it on a
handmill or
crushed it in a mortar, then boiled it in a
cooking pot or shaped it into cakes. It tasted
like pastry baked with fine oil.
Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s
womb.
Please do not let her be
like a
stillborn infant whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s
womb.”
And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
See what the land is like and whether its people are strong or weak, few or many.
And there we saw the giants, the sons of
Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
We even saw the
Nephilim there—the descendants of
Anak that come from the
Nephilim! We seemed
like grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!”
Only
rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
Only do not
rebel against the LORD, and do not be afraid of the people of the land, for they will be
like bread for us. Their protection has been removed, and the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them!”
Ye shall offer up a
cake of the first of your
dough for an
heave offering: as ye do the
heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall ye
heave it.
From the first of your
dough, you are to lift up a
cake as a contribution; offer it just
like an offering from the
threshing floor.
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as
Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
just as the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no outsider who is not a
descendant of Aaron should approach to offer incense before the LORD, lest he become
like Korah and his followers.
Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even a fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous; let my end be like theirs!”
God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an
unicorn.
God brought them out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox.
