Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Then David returned to
bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
today, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
As soon as David returned home to
bless his own household, Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself
today!” she said. “He has uncovered himself
today in the sight of the maidservants of his subjects,
like a vulgar person would do.”
And I was with thee
whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name,
like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
How great You are, O Lord GOD! For there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
And what one nation in the earth is
like thy people, even
like Israel, whom God went to
redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
And who is
like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to
redeem as a people for Himself and to make a name for Himself? You performed great and
awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before Your people, whom You redeemed for
Yourself from Egypt.
And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog like me?”
Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.
And Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do all that my lord the king has commanded.” So Mephibosheth
ate at David’s table
like one of the king’s own sons.
But the poor man had nothing, save one little
ewe lamb, which he had bought and
nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and
drank of his own cup, and lay in his
bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
but the poor man had nothing except one small
ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food and
drank from his cup; it
slept in his arms and was
like a daughter to him.
And I,
whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not
withhold me from thee.
Where could I ever take my shame? And you would be
like one of the fools in Israel! Please speak to the king, for he will not
withhold me from you.”
So
Joab sent to Tekoa to bring a wise woman from there. He told her, “Please pretend to be a
mourner; put on clothes for
mourning and do not
anoint yourself with oil. Act
like a woman who has
mourned for the dead a long time.
And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king
doth speak this thing as one which is
faulty, in that the king
doth not
fetch home again his banished.
The woman asked, “Why have you devised a thing
like this against the people of God? When the king says this, does he not
convict himself, since he has not brought back his own banished son?
For we must needs die, and are as water
spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither
doth God respect any person: yet
doth he
devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.
For surely we will die and be like water poured out on the ground, which cannot be recovered. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises ways that the banished one may not be cast out from Him.
Then thine
handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to
discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.
And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king bring me rest, for my lord the king is able to
discern good and evil, just
like the angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.’”
To
fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant
Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
Joab your servant has done this to bring about this change of affairs, but my lord has wisdom
like the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that happens in the land.”
Then said
Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear
likewise what he saith.
Then
Absalom said, “
Summon Hushai the Archite as well, and let us hear what he too has to say.”
Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the
dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.
Then we will attack David wherever we find him, and we will descend on him
like dew on the ground. And of all the men with him, not even one will remain.
Then said
Joab, I may not
tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of
Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
But
Joab declared, “I am not going to wait
like this with you!” And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through the heart of
Absalom while he was still alive in the oak tree.
And the
watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is
like the running of
Ahimaaz the son of
Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good
tidings.
The
watchman said, “The first man appears to me to be running
like Ahimaaz son of
Zadok.” “This is a good man,” said the king. “He comes with good news.”
And he hath
slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.
and he has
slandered your servant to my lord the king. Yet my lord the king is
like the angel of God, so do what is good in your eyes.
And there was again a battle in
Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a
Bethlehemite,
slew the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose
spear was
like a
weaver’s beam.
Once again there was a battle with the Philistines at
Gob, and Elhanan son of
Jair the
Bethlehemite killed the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose
spear was
like a
weaver’s beam.
He maketh my feet like hinds feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights.
Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the
mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.
I ground them as the dust of the earth; I
crushed and
trampled them
like mud in the streets.
And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear
shining after rain.
But the sons of
Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:
But the worthless are all
like thorns
raked aside, for they can never be gathered by hand.
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
behold, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and
discerning heart, so that there has never been nor will ever be another
like you.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.
Moreover, I will give you what you did not request—both riches and honor—so that during all your days no man in any kingdom will be your equal.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
And God gave Solomon wisdom, exceedingly deep insight, and understanding beyond measure,
like the sand on the
seashore.
Now therefore command thou that they
hew me
cedar trees out of
Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give
hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt
appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to
hew timber
like unto the Sidonians.
Now therefore, order that cedars of
Lebanon be cut down for me. My servants will be with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever wages you set, for you know that there are none among us as skilled in
logging as the Sidonians.”
And his house where he dwelt had another court within the
porch, which was of the
like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had taken to wife,
like unto this
porch.
And the palace where Solomon would live, set further back, was of similar construction. He also made a palace like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had married.
And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the chapiters that were upon the top, with pomegranates: and so did he for the other
chapiter.
Likewise, he made the pillars with two rows of pomegranates around each
grating to cover each capital
atop the pillars.
And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of
lily work in the
porch, four cubits.
And the capitals
atop the pillars in the
portico were shaped
like lilies, four cubits high.
And upon the top of the pillars was
lily work: so was the work of the pillars finished.
And the tops of the pillars were shaped
like lilies. So the work of the pillars was completed.
And it was an hand breadth thick, and the
brim thereof was wrought
like the
brim of a cup, with flowers of
lilies: it contained two thousand baths.
And the mouth of it within the
chapiter and above was a
cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a
cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders,
foursquare, not round.
The opening to each stand inside the crown at the top was one
cubit deep, with a round opening
like the design of a
pedestal, a
cubit and a half wide. And around its opening were engravings, but the panels of the stands were square, not round.
And the work of the wheels was
like the work of a
chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all
molten.
The wheels were made
like chariot wheels; their axles, rims, spokes, and hubs were all of cast metal.
And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth below, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And a
chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the
Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.
A
chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty.
Likewise, they exported them to all the kings of the
Hittites and to the kings of
Aram.
And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month,
like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he placed in
Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month,
like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the high places he had set up.
He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he
lied unto him.
Then the prophet replied, “I too am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” The old prophet was lying to him,
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not
like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.
So now I will
consume Baasha and his house, and I will make your house
like that of
Jeroboam son of Nebat:
And also by the hand of the prophet
Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against
Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in
provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being
like the house of
Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet
Jehu son of Hanani against
Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands and becoming
like the house of
Jeroboam, and also because
Baasha had struck down the house of
Jeroboam.
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea,
like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto
Ahab, Prepare thy
chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea.” And
Elijah replied, “Go and tell
Ahab, ‘Prepare your
chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
Then
Jezebel sent a
messenger unto
Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to
morrow about this time.
So
Jezebel sent a
messenger to
Elijah, saying, “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if by this time
tomorrow I do not make your life
like the lives of those you killed!”
And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his
harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.
And the king of Israel replied, “Tell him: ‘The one putting on his
armor should not
boast like one taking it off.’”
And number thee an army,
like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and
chariot for
chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he
hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
And you must raise an army
like the one you have lost—horse for horse and
chariot for
chariot—so we can fight the Israelites on the plain, where we will surely prevail.” And the king approved their plan and acted accordingly.
And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
The Israelites also
mobilized, gathered supplies, and marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped before them
like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the
countryside.
I will make your house
like that of
Jeroboam son of Nebat and
like that of
Baasha son of
Ahijah, because you have
provoked My anger and caused Israel to sin.’
But there was none
like unto
Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom
Jezebel his wife
stirred up.
(Surely there was never one
like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the sight of the LORD, incited by his wife
Jezebel.
And he did very
abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the
Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
He committed the most
detestable acts by going after idols, just
like the
Amorites whom the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.)
And he said unto
Jehoshaphat,
Wilt thou go with me to battle to
Ramoth-
gilead? And
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.
So he asked
Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight against
Ramoth-
gilead?”
Jehoshaphat answered the king of Israel, “I am
like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
And the
messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be
like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.
Then the
messenger who had gone to call Micaiah
instructed him, “Behold now, with one
accord the words of the prophets are favorable to the king. So please let your words be
like theirs, and speak
favorably.”
And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a
shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills
like sheep without a
shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in peace.’”
And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not
like his father, and
like his mother: for he put away the image of
Baal that his father had made.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as his father and mother had done. He removed the sacred
pillar of
Baal that his father had made.
And he went and sent to
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me:
wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
And he sent a message to
Jehoshaphat king of Judah: “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” “I will go,” replied
Jehoshaphat. “I am
like you, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
Then went he down, and
dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again
like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
So
Naaman went down and
dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored and became
like that of a little child, and he was clean.
Yet
Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then
Libnah revolted at the same time.
So to this day
Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah.
Likewise,
Libnah rebelled at the same time.
And he walked in the way of the house of
Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of
Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of
Ahab.
And
Ahaziah walked in the ways of the house of
Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD
like the house of
Ahab, for he was a son-in-law of the house of
Ahab.
And I will make the house of
Ahab like the house of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and
like the house of
Baasha the son of
Ahijah:
And the
watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is
like the driving of
Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth
furiously.
Again the
watchman reported, “He reached them, but he is not coming back. And the
charioteer is driving
like Jehu son of Nimshi—he is driving
like a
madman!”
And the
carcase of
Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of
Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is
Jezebel.
And
Jezebel’s body will lie
like dung in the field on the plot of ground at
Jezreel, so that no one can say: This is
Jezebel.’”
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not
like David his father: he did according to all things as
Joash his father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his father David had done. He did everything as his father
Joash had done.
Twenty years old was
Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God,
like David his father.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him.
And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to
provoke the LORD to anger:
They burned incense on all the high places
like the nations that the LORD had driven out before them. They did wicked things,
provoking the LORD to anger.
Notwithstanding they would not hear, but
hardened their necks,
like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
But they would not
listen, and they
stiffened their necks
like their fathers, who did not believe the LORD their God.
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his
testimonies which he
testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do
like them.
They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and themselves became worthless, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to
imitate.
He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
Hezekiah trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel. No king of Judah was
like him, either before him or after him.
Until I come and take you away to a land
like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and
hearken not unto
Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
until I come and take you away to a land
like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey—so that you may live and not die. But do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for he misleads you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the grass on the house tops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are
like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
And Isaiah had replied, “This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised: Would you like the shadow to go forward ten steps, or back ten steps?”
And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
Neither before nor after
Josiah was there any king
like him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, according to all the Law of Moses.
The height of the one
pillar was eighteen cubits, and the
chapiter upon it was brass: and the height of the
chapiter three cubits; and the
wreathen work, and pomegranates upon the
chapiter round about, all of brass: and
like unto these had the second
pillar with
wreathen work.
Each
pillar was eighteen cubits tall. The bronze capital
atop one
pillar was three cubits high, with a network of bronze pomegranates all around. The second
pillar, with its network, was similar.
And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply, like to the children of Judah.
Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many children, so their whole clan did not become as numerous as the sons of Judah.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
When his
armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died.
And he
slew an Egyptian, a man of great
stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a
spear like a
weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man five cubits tall. Although the Egyptian had a
spear like a
weaver’s beam in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and
buckler, whose faces were
like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;
Some Gadites defected to David at his
stronghold in the desert. They were mighty men of
valor, trained for battle, experts with the shield and
spear, whose faces were
like the faces of lions and who were as swift as gazelles on the mountains:
For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.
For at that time men came to David day after day to help him, until he had a great army, like the army of God.
So they came up to
Baal-perazim; and David
smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand
like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place
Baal-perazim.
So David and his men went up to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “
Like a
bursting flood, God has
burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place
Baal-perazim.
And I have been with thee
whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name
like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land.
O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
O LORD, there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
And what one nation in the earth is
like thy people Israel, whom God went to
redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
And who is
like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to
redeem as a people for Himself? You made a name for
Yourself through great and
awesome wonders by driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt.
Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass,
wherewith Solomon made the
brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
And from Tibhath and
Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and various bronze articles.
And when the children of
Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they
likewise fled before
Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then
Joab came to Jerusalem.
When the
Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they too fled before
Joab’s brother
Abishai, and they entered the city. So
Joab went back to Jerusalem.
And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of
Jair slew Lahmi the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, whose
spear staff was
like a
weaver’s beam.
Once again there was a battle with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of
Jair killed Lahmi the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose
spear was
like a
weaver’s beam.
And to stand every morning to
thank and praise the LORD, and
likewise at even;
They were also to stand every morning to give
thanks and praise to the LORD, and
likewise in the evening.
These
likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and
Zadok, and
Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.
As their brothers the descendants of Aaron did, they also cast lots in the presence of King David and of
Zadok,
Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priests and Levites—the family heads and their younger brothers alike.
And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.
Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division for the second month, and Mikloth was the leader. There were 24,000 men in his division.
But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.
David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he
liked me to make me king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
And by weight he gave gold for the tables of
shewbread, for every table; and
likewise silver for the tables of silver:
the weight of gold for each table of
showbread, and of silver for the silver tables;
Also pure gold for the fleshhooks, and the
bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every
bason; and
likewise silver by weight for every
bason of silver:
the weight of the pure gold for the forks,
sprinkling bowls, and pitchers; the weight of each gold
dish; the weight of each silver
bowl;
For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none
abiding.
For we are foreigners and strangers in Your presence, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.
And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
All the officials and mighty men, as well as all of King David’s sons,
pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.
Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
Now, O LORD God, let Your promise to my father David be fulfilled. For You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
therefore wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will also give you riches and wealth and honor unlike anything given to the kings before you or after you.”
