Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And he
fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he
looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
He
dug it up and cleared the stones and planted the finest vines. He built a
watchtower in the middle and
dug out a winepress as well. He waited for the
vineyard to yield good grapes, but the fruit it produced was
sour!
What could have been done more to my
vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I
looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
What more could I have done for My
vineyard than I already did for it? Why, when I expected sweet grapes, did it bring forth
sour fruit?
For the
vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he
looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
For the
vineyard of the LORD of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are the plant of His delight. He
looked for justice, but saw
bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard a cry of distress.
And he discovered the covering of Judah, and thou
didst look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest.
He has uncovered the defenses of Judah. On that day you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest.
Ye made also a
ditch between the two walls for the water of the old
pool: but ye have not
looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.
You built a
reservoir between the walls for the waters of the ancient
pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or consider Him who
planned it long ago.
Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
Truth is missing, and
whoever turns from evil becomes prey. The LORD
looked and was displeased that there was no justice.
And I
looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to
uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my
fury, it
upheld me.
I
looked, but there was no one to help; I was
appalled that no one assisted. So My arm brought Me salvation, and My own wrath
upheld Me.
When thou
didst terrible things which we
looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
When You did
awesome works that we did not expect, You came down, and the mountains
trembled at Your presence.
I
beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
I looked at the earth, and it was formless and void; I looked to the heavens, and they had no light.
I
beheld the mountains, and, lo, they
trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
I
looked at the mountains, and behold, they were
quaking; all the hills were
swaying.
I
beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.
I looked, and no man was left; all the birds of the air had fled.
I
beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.
I
looked, and the fruitful land was a desert. All its cities were
torn down before the LORD, before His fierce anger.
We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!
We hoped for peace, but no good has come, for a time of
healing, but there was only terror.
Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul
lothed Zion? why hast thou
smitten us, and there is no
healing for us? we
looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of
healing, and behold trouble!
Have You rejected Judah completely? Do You
despise Zion? Why have You
stricken us so that we are beyond
healing? We hoped for peace, but no good has come, and for the time of
healing, but there was only terror.
Upon this I
awaked, and
beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.
At this I
awoke and
looked around. My sleep had been most pleasant to me.
Jerusalem remembered in the days of her
affliction and of her
miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the
adversaries saw her, and did
mock at her sabbaths.
In the days of her
affliction and wandering Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into enemy hands she received no help. Her enemies
looked upon her,
laughing at her
downfall.
All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and
gnash the teeth: they say, We have
swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we
looked for; we have found, we have seen it.
All your enemies open their mouths against you. They hiss and
gnash their teeth, saying, “We have
swallowed her up. This is the day for which we have waited. We have lived to see it!”
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help. We watched from our towers for a nation that could not save us.
And I
looked, and, behold, a
whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of
amber, out of the midst of the fire.
I
looked and saw a
whirlwind coming from the north, a great cloud with fire
flashing back and forth and brilliant light all around it. In the center of the fire was a
gleam like
amber,
Now as I
beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.
When I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.
The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a
beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.
And I saw as the colour of
amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even
downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
From what seemed to be His
waist up, I saw a
gleam like
amber, with what
looked like fire within it all around. And from what seemed to be His
waist down, I saw what
looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded Him.
And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;
Then I
looked and saw a hand reaching out to me, and in it was a
scroll,
Then I
beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even
downward, fire; and from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of
amber.
Then I
looked and saw a figure like that of a man. From His
waist down His appearance was like fire, and from His
waist up He was as bright as the
gleam of
amber.
And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a
lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
He stretched out what
looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the
idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.
Then He brought me to the entrance to the court, and I looked and saw a hole in the wall.
So I went in and saw; and behold every form of
creeping things, and
abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.
So I went in and
looked, and engraved all around the wall was every kind of
crawling creature and
detestable beast, along with all the idols of the house of Israel.
Then I
looked, and, behold, in the
firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a
sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
And when I
looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one
cherub, and another wheel by another
cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a
beryl stone.
When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place
whither the head
looked they followed it; they turned not as they went.
When they moved, they would go in any of the four directions, without turning as they moved. For wherever the head faced, the
cherubim would go in that direction, without turning as they moved.
Every one had four faces
apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings.
Each had four faces and four wings, with what looked like human hands under their wings.
And the likeness of their faces was the same faces which I saw by the river of
Chebar, their appearances and themselves: they went every one straight forward.
Their faces
looked like the faces I had seen by the River Kebar. Each creature went straight
ahead.
Now when I passed by thee, and
looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my
skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness:
yea, I
sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
Then I passed by and saw you, and you were indeed old enough for love. So I spread My
cloak over you and covered your nakedness. I
pledged Myself to you, entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine, declares the Lord GOD.
Nevertheless mine eye
spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.
Yet I
looked on them with
pity and did not destroy them or bring them to an end in the wilderness.
For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use
divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he
looked in the liver.
For the king of Babylon stands at the
fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to seek an
omen: He shakes the arrows, he consults the idols, he examines the liver.
Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in
dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of
Chaldea, the land of their
nativity:
wearing belts on their waists and flowing turbans on their heads; all of them
looked like officers of the Babylonians in
Chaldea, the land of their birth.
And when I
beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.
As I looked on, tendons appeared on them, flesh grew, and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them.
And the gate of the outward court that looked toward the north, he measured the length thereof, and the breadth thereof.
He also measured the length and width of the
gateway of the outer court facing north.
Then brought he me the way of the north gate before the house: and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD: and I fell upon my face.
Then the man brought me to the front of the temple by way of the north gate. I looked and saw the glory of the LORD filling His temple, and I fell facedown.
After he brought me through the entry, which was at the side of the gate, into the holy chambers of the priests, which looked toward the north: and, behold, there was a place on the two sides westward.
Then the man brought me through the entrance at the side of the gate into the holy chambers facing north, which belonged to the priests, and he showed me a place there at the far western end
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Then compare our appearances with those of the young men who are eating the royal food, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.
And at the end of ten days, they
looked healthier and better
nourished than all the young men who were eating the king’s food.
And at the end of the days I
Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
But at the end of those days I,
Nebuchadnezzar,
looked up to heaven, and my
sanity was restored to me. Then I praised the Most High, and I honored and
glorified Him who lives
forever: “For His dominion is an
everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation.
Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven
strove upon the great sea.
Daniel declared: “In my vision in the night I
looked, and suddenly the four winds of heaven were
churning up the great sea.
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise,
devour much flesh.
Suddenly another beast appeared, which
looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. So it was told, ‘Get up and
gorge yourself on flesh!’
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and
looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were
girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
I lifted up my eyes, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his
waist.
Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing there, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.
But thou shouldest not have
looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have
rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
But you should not
gloat in that day, your brother’s day of misfortune, nor
rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor
boast proudly in the day of their distress.
Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their
calamity;
yea, thou shouldest not have
looked on their
affliction in the day of their
calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their
calamity;
He stood, and measured the earth: he
beheld, and drove
asunder the nations; and the
everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are
everlasting.
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
You expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. And what you brought home, I
blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is
busy with his own house.
I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the
myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses,
speckled, and white.
I
looked out into the night and saw a man riding on a red horse. He was standing among the
myrtle trees in the hollow, and behind him were red,
sorrel, and white horses.
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
Then I looked up and saw four horns.
I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have
looked, and behold a
candlestick all of gold, with a
bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps
thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
“What do you see?” he asked. “I see a solid gold lampstand,” I replied, “with a
bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven spouts to the lamps.
Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll.
Again I lifted up my eyes and saw before me a flying
scroll.
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and
looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a
stork: and they lifted up the
ephah between the earth and the heaven.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw two women approaching, with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a
stork, and they lifted up the
basket between heaven and earth.
And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and
looked, and, behold, there came four
chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
And again I lifted up my eyes and saw four
chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
But Jesus
beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’
And from that time he sought opportunity to
betray him.
So from then on
Judas looked for an opportunity to
betray Jesus.
And when he had
looked round about on them with anger, being
grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored.
And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
But He kept looking around to see who had done this.
And when he had taken the five
loaves and the two fishes, he
looked up to heaven, and blessed, and
brake the
loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Taking the five
loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, Jesus spoke a blessing and broke the
loaves. Then He gave them to His disciples to set before the people. And He divided the two fish among them all.
And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
The man looked up and said, “I can see the people, but they look like trees walking around.”
But when he had turned about and
looked on his disciples, he
rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me,
Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
But Jesus, turning and looking at His disciples,
rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me,
Satan! For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”
And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
Suddenly, when they looked around, they saw no one with them except Jesus.
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell
whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Jesus
looked at him, loved him, and said to him, “There is one thing you lack: Go, sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”
And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had
looked round about upon all things, and now the
eventide was come, he went out unto
Bethany with the twelve.
Then Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He
looked around at everything, but since it was already late, He went out to
Bethany with the Twelve.
And the
scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was
astonished at his doctrine.
When the chief priests and
scribes heard this, they
looked for a way to kill Him. For they were afraid of Him, because the whole crowd was
astonished at His teaching.
And when she saw Peter warming himself, she
looked upon him, and said, And thou also
wast with Jesus of
Nazareth.
and saw him warming himself there. She
looked at Peter and said, “You also were with Jesus the
Nazarene.”
And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, even though it was extremely large.
Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
“The Lord has done this for me. In these days He has shown me favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”
For he hath regarded the low estate of his
handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He has looked with favor on the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.
And she coming in that instant gave
thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that
looked for
redemption in Jerusalem.
Coming forward at that moment, she gave
thanks to God and spoke about the Child to all who were waiting for the
redemption of Jerusalem.
And likewise a
Levite, when he was at the place, came and
looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
So too, when a
Levite came to that spot and saw him, he passed by on the other side.
But a certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had
compassion on him,

torment, he
looked up and saw Abraham from
afar, with
Lazarus by his side.
And when Jesus came to the place, he
looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make
haste, and come down; for to day I must
abide at thy house.
When Jesus came to that place, He
looked up and said, “Zacchaeus,
hurry down, for I must stay at your house
today.”
And he
beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
But Jesus looked directly at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?
And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
Then Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury,
But a certain
maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly
looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
A servant
girl saw him seated in the firelight and
looked intently at him. “This man also was with Him,” she said.
And the Lord turned, and
looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the
cock crow, thou shalt deny me
thrice.
And the Lord turned and
looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word that the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the
rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.”
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus
beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called
Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
Andrew brought him to Jesus, who
looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called
Cephas” (which is translated as Peter).
When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we
buy bread, that these may eat?
When Jesus
looked up and saw a large crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where can we
buy bread for these people to eat?”
Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
The disciples
looked at one another,
perplexed as to which of them He meant.
And he
stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.
But Mary stood outside the tomb
weeping. And as she
wept, she bent down to look into the tomb,

looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white
apparel;
They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.
And Peter,
fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
Peter looked directly at him, as did John. “Look at us!” said Peter.
And all that sat in the council, looking
stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
All who were sitting in the
Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
But he, being full of the Holy Ghost,
looked up
stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
And when he
looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine
alms are come up for a
memorial before God.
Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it, Lord?” The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have ascended as a
memorial offering before God.
Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and
creeping things, and fowls of the air.
I looked at it closely and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air.
Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked directly at Elymas
The same heard Paul speak: who
stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be
healed,
This man was
listening to the words of Paul, who
looked intently at him and saw that he had faith to be
healed.
