Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near
kinswomen: it is wickedness.
You must not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. You are not to
marry her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter and have sexual relations with her. They are close relatives; it is
depraved.
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou
mar the corners of thy
beard.
You must not cut off the hair at the sides of your head or
clip off the edges of your
beard.
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
You must not make any cuts in your bodies for the dead or put
tattoo marks on
yourselves. I am the LORD.
And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.

depravity among you.
And if a man shall take his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister’s nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

whore, or
profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.
The woman he marries must be a virgin.

divorced woman, or
profane, or an
harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.

married: for he had
married an
Ethiopian woman.

And if she had at all an husband, when she
vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips,
wherewith she bound her soul;
If a woman
marries while under a
vow or
rash promise by which she has bound herself,
And they departed from
Rameses in the first month, on the
fifteenth day of the first month; on the
morrow after the
passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians.
On the
fifteenth day of the first month, on the day after the
Passover, the Israelites set out from
Rameses. They
marched out defiantly in full view of all the Egyptians,
And they departed from before
Pi-hahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in
Marah.
They set out from
Pi-hahiroth and crossed through the sea, into the wilderness, and they journeyed three days into the Wilderness of Etham and camped at
Marah.
And they removed from
Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim were twelve fountains of water, and
threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there.
They set out from
Marah and came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there.
And if they be
married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.
But if they
marry any of the men from the other tribes of Israel, their inheritance will be withdrawn from the portion of our fathers and added to the tribe into which they
marry. So our
allotted inheritance would be taken away.
And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe
whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.
And when the
Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to the tribe into which they
marry and taken away from the tribe of our fathers.”
This is the thing which the LORD
doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them
marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they
marry.
This is what the LORD has commanded concerning the daughters of Zelophehad: They may
marry anyone they please, provided they
marry within a clan of the tribe of their father.
And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.
Every daughter who possesses an inheritance from any
Israelite tribe must
marry within a clan of the tribe of her father, so that every
Israelite will possess the inheritance of his fathers.
For Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and
Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were
married unto their father’s brothers’ sons:
Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and
Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were
married to cousins on their father’s side.
And they were
married into the families of the sons of
Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.
They
married within the clans of the descendants of
Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained within the tribe of their father’s clan.
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
Do not
intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,
Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s
landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt
inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
You must not move your
neighbor’s boundary
marker, which was set up by your ancestors to
mark the inheritance you shall receive in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
And what man is there that hath
betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
Has any man become
pledged to a woman and not
married her? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man
marry her.”
If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and
hate her,
Suppose a man
marries a woman, has relations with her, and comes to
hate her,
And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a
maid:
and he then accuses her of shameful conduct and gives her a bad name, saying, “I married this woman and had relations with her, but I discovered she was not a virgin.”
And the
damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;
and say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in
marriage to this man, but he has come to
hate her.
If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
If a man is found lying with another man’s wife, both the man who
slept with her and the woman must die. You must
purge the evil from Israel.
If a
damsel that is a virgin be
betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
If there is a virgin
pledged in
marriage to a man, and another man encounters her in the city and sleeps with her,
If a man find a
damsel that is a virgin, which is not
betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
If a man encounters a virgin who is not
pledged in
marriage, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered,
A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor discover his father’s
skirt.
A man is not to marry his father’s wife, so that he will not dishonor his father’s marriage bed.
When a man hath taken a wife, and
married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
If a man
marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds some
indecency in her, he may write her a
certificate of
divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.
When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall
cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
When brothers dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not
marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and
fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.
But if the man does not want to marry his brother’s widow, she is to go to the elders at the city gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel. He is not willing to perform the duty of a brother-in-law for me.”
Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
Then the elders of his city shall
summon him and speak with him. If he persists and says, “I do not want to
marry her,”
Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s wife; because he uncovereth his father’s
skirt. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he has
violated his father’s
marriage bed.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be
smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and
flee before thee seven ways.
The LORD will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will
march out against you in one direction but
flee from you in seven.
The LORD shall cause thee to be
smitten before thine enemies: thou shalt go out one way against them, and
flee seven ways before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will
march out against them in one direction but
flee from them in seven. You will be an object of
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Thou shalt
betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a
vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
You will be
pledged in
marriage to a woman, but another man will
violate her. You will build a house but will not live in it. You will plant a
vineyard but will not enjoy its fruit.
And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.
And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven
trumpets of rams horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the
trumpets.
Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns.
And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.
And he told the people, “Advance and
march around the city, with the armed troops going
ahead of the ark of the LORD.”
And the armed men went before the priests that
blew with the
trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the
trumpets.
While the horns continued to sound, the armed troops
marched ahead of the priests who
blew the horns, and the rear guard followed the ark.
And seven priests bearing seven
trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and
blew with the
trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the
trumpets.
And the seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns kept
marching ahead of the ark of the LORD and blowing the horns. The armed troops went in front of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the horns kept sounding.
And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.
So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the
dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
Then on the seventh day, they got up at
dawn and
marched around the city seven times in the same manner. That was the only day they circled the city seven times.
And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to
Ai.
Joshua got up early the next morning and
mobilized his men, and he and the elders of Israel
marched before them up to
Ai.
And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew
nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of
Ai: now there was a valley between them and
Ai.
Then all the troops who were with him
marched up and approached the city. They arrived in front of
Ai and camped to the north of it, with the valley between them and the city.
Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from
Gilgal all night.
After
marching all night from
Gilgal, Joshua caught them by surprise.
And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.
From there he marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in
marriage.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of
Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in
marriage.
And Keilah, and
Achzib, and
Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:
Keilah,
Achzib, and
Mareshah—nine cities, along with their villages.
And
Ziklag, and Beth-
marcaboth, and Hazar-susah,
Ziklag, Beth-
marcaboth, Hazar-susah,
And their border went up toward the sea, and Maralah, and reached to Dabbasheth, and reached to the river that is before Jokneam;
The border of their inheritance stretched as far as Sarid. It went up westward to
Maralah, reached Dabbesheth, and met the
brook east of Jokneam.
Else if ye do in any wise go back, and
cleave unto the
remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make
marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:
For if you turn away and
cling to the rest of these nations that remain among you, and if you
intermarry and associate with them,
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the
Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
Afterward, the men of Judah
marched down to fight against the
Canaanites living in the hill country, in the Negev, and in the foothills.
And Judah went against the
Canaanites that dwelt in
Hebron: (now the name of
Hebron before was Kirjath-arba:) and they
slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Judah also
marched against the
Canaanites who were living in
Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba), and they struck down Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher:
From there they marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in
marriage.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz,
Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in
marriage.
Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had
sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.
Wherever Israel
marched out, the hand of the LORD was against them to bring
calamity, just as He had
sworn to them. So they were greatly distressed.
And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
And they took the daughters of these people in marriage, gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
And she sent and called
Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-
naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount
Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of
Naphtali and of the children of
Zebulun?
She summoned
Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in
Naphtali and said to him, “Surely the LORD, the God of Israel, is commanding you: ‘Go and
march to Mount
Tabor, taking with you ten thousand men of
Naphtali and
Zebulun.
LORD, when thou wentest out of
Seir, when thou
marchedst out of the field of
Edom, the earth
trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.
O LORD, when You went out from
Seir, when You
marched from the land of
Edom, the earth
trembled, the heavens poured out rain, and the clouds poured down water.
Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of
Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
Some came from Ephraim, with their roots in Amalek; Benjamin came with your people after you. The commanders came down from Machir, the bearers of the
marshal’s staff from
Zebulun.
