I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the
idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an
idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled.
But not
everyone has this knowledge. Some
people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an
idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is
defiled.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
To the weak I became weak, to
win the weak. I have become all things to all
people so that by all possible means I might save some.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written: “The
people sat down to eat and to drink, and got up to
indulge in
revelry.”
I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
I speak to reasonable
people; judge for
yourselves what I say.
Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
Consider the people of Israel: Are not those who eat the sacrifices fellow partakers in the altar?
And there are
diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
It is written in the Law: “By strange tongues and foreign lips I will speak to this
people, but even then they will not
listen to Me, says the Lord.”
Else what shall they do which are
baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then
baptized for the dead?
If these things are not so, what will those do who are
baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are
people baptized for them?
Are we beginning to
commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some
people, letters of
recommendation to you or from you?
For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the
thanksgiving of many
redound to the glory of God.
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is extending to more and more
people may overflow in
thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”
Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
Such people should consider that what we are in our letters when absent, we will be in our actions when present.
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would
pervert the gospel of Christ.
which is not even a gospel. Evidently some
people are troubling you and trying to
distort the gospel of Christ.
They
zealously affect you, but not well;
yea, they would
exclude you, that ye might affect them.
Those
people are
zealous for you, but not in a good way. Instead, they want to
isolate you from us, so that you may be
zealous for them.
Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a
Pharisee;
circumcised on the eighth day, of the
people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a
Pharisee;
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as
travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
While
people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a
pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among
yourselves, and to all men.
Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
Now them that are such we command and
exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
We command and
urge such
people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to
earn their own living.
Who gave himself for us, that he might
redeem us from all iniquity, and
purify unto himself a peculiar
people,
zealous of good works.
This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou
affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
This saying is
trustworthy. And I want you to
emphasize these things, so that those who have believed God will take care to
devote themselves to good deeds. These things are excellent and profitable for the
people.
And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
And our
people must also learn to
devote themselves to good works in order to meet the pressing needs of others, so that they will not be unfruitful.
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a
merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
reconciliation for the sins of the
people.
For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a
merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make
atonement for the sins of the
people.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
And by reason
hereof he ought, as for the
people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
That is why he is
obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the
people.
And
verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take
tithes of the
people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
Now the law commands the sons of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people—that is, from their brothers—though they too are descended from Abraham.
If therefore perfection were by the
Levitical priesthood, (for under it the
people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Now if perfection could have been attained through the
Levitical priesthood (for on this basis the
people received the law), why was there still need for another priest to appear—one in the order of
Melchizedek and not in the order of Aaron?
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.
For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
But God found fault with the people and said: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their minds and
inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My
people.
But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
But only the high priest entered the second room, and then only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.
For when Moses had spoken every
precept to all the
people according to the law, he took the blood of
calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and
hyssop, and
sprinkled both the book, and all the
people,
For when Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the
people, he took the blood of
calves and goats, along with water, scarlet wool, and
hyssop, and
sprinkled the
scroll and all the
people,
For we know him that hath said,
Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will
recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his
people.
For we know Him who said, “
Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His
people.”
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them
afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and
confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
All these
people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised. However, they saw them and
welcomed them from
afar. And they acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the
people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
He chose to suffer oppression with God’s people rather than to experience the fleeting enjoyment of sin.
By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians
assaying to do were
drowned.
By faith the
people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were
drowned.
By faith the walls of
Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
By faith the walls of
Jericho fell, after the
people had marched around them for seven days.
See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if the
people did not escape when they refused Him who
warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we
reject Him who warns us from heaven?
Be not
forgetful to
entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Do not neglect to show
hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some
people have entertained angels without knowing it.
Wherefore Jesus also, that he might
sanctify the
people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate, to
sanctify the
people by His own blood.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar
people; that ye should
shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
But you are a chosen
people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a
people for God’s own possession, to
proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His
marvelous light.
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Which
sometime were
disobedient, when once the
longsuffering of God waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of
Noah while the ark was being built. In the ark a few
people, only eight souls, were saved through water.
But there were false prophets also among the
people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who
privily shall bring in
damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Now there were also false prophets among the
people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies, even denying the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
And
spared not the old world, but saved
Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
if He did not
spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly
people, but preserved
Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight;
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and
godliness,
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of
people ought you to be? You ought to conduct
yourselves in
holiness and
godliness As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable
wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable
people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
I will therefore put you in
remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the
people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Although you are fully aware of this, I want to remind you that after Jesus had delivered His people out of the land of Egypt, He destroyed those who did not believe.
Thou hast a few names even in
Sardis which have not
defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
But you do have a few
people in
Sardis who have not soiled their garments, and because they are worthy, they will walk with Me in white.
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou
wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and
people, and nation;
And they
sang a new song: “Worthy are You to take the
scroll and open its seals, because You were slain, and by Your blood You purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue and
people and nation.
After this I
beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and
people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
After this I looked and saw a multitude too large to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
And the name of the star is called
Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became
wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
The name of the star is
Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter like
wormwood oil, and many
people died from the bitter waters.
And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to
hurt men five months.
They had tails with stingers like scorpions, which had the power to
injure people for five months.
And he said unto me, Thou must
prophesy again before many
peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
And they told me, “You must
prophesy again about many
peoples and nations and tongues and kings.”
And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
For three and a half days all peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will view their bodies and will not permit them to be laid in a tomb.
And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Then the beast was permitted to
wage war against the saints and to
conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe and
people and tongue and nation.
And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
And the second beast performed great signs to cause even fire from heaven to come down to earth in the presence of the people.
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
And the second beast required all
people small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their
forehead,
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the
everlasting gospel to
preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and
people,
Then I saw another angel flying overhead, with the eternal gospel to
proclaim to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation and tribe and tongue and
people.
And the fourth angel poured out his
vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to
scorch men with fire.
Then the fourth angel poured out his
bowl on the sun, and it was given power to
scorch the
people with fire.
And men were
scorched with great heat, and
blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they
repented not to give him glory.
And the
people were
scorched by intense heat, and they
cursed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues; yet they did not
repent and give Him glory.
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the
whore sitteth, are
peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Then the angel said to me, “The waters you saw, where the
prostitute was seated, are
peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues.
And after these things I heard a great voice of much
people in heaven, saying,
Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
After this I heard a sound like the
roar of a great multitude in heaven,
shouting: “
Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God!
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.
And said, Ye shall no more bear the ark upon your shoulders: now therefore serve the Lord your God, and minister unto his people Israel, and prepare you after your families and kindreds,
And unto the
people that was found there Josias gave thirty thousand lambs and kids, and three thousand
calves: these things were given of the king’s allowance, according as he promised, to the
people, to the priests, and to the Levites.
And according to the several
dignities of the fathers, before the
people, to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses: and thus did they in the morning.
And set them before all the people: and afterward they prepared for themselves, and for the priests their brethren, the sons of Aaron.
As for the things that came to pass in his time, they were written in former times, concerning those that
sinned, and did wickedly against the Lord above all
people and kingdoms, and how they
grieved him exceedingly, so that the words of the Lord rose up against Israel.
And the people took Joachaz the son of Josias, and made him king instead of Josias his father, when he was twenty and three years old.
The governors also of the
people and of the priests did many things against the laws, and passed all the pollutions of all nations, and
defiled the temple of the Lord, which was
sanctified in Jerusalem.
So far forth, that he, being
wroth with his
people for their great
ungodliness, commanded the kings of the Chaldees to come up against them;
And as for her glorious things, they never ceased till they had consumed and brought them all to
nought: and the
people that were not slain with the sword he carried unto Babylon:
If therefore there be any of you that are of his
people, let the Lord, even his Lord, be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem that is in
Judea, and build the house of the Lord of Israel: for he is the Lord that dwelleth in Jerusalem.
Then king Artexerxes his letters being read, Rathumus, and Semellius the
scribe, and the rest that were in commission with them, removing in
haste toward Jerusalem with a
troop of
horsemen and a multitude of
people in battle
array, began to hinder the builders; and the building of the temple in Jerusalem ceased until the second year of the reign of
Darius king of the Persians.
So all his
people and his armies obey him:
furthermore he lieth down, he eateth and drinketh, and taketh his rest:
Women have borne the king and all the people that bear rule by sea and land.
And with that he held his peace. And all the
people then
shouted, and said, Great is Truth, and mighty above all things.
And so dwelt the priests and the Levites and the
people in Jerusalem, and in the country, the singers also and the
porters; and all Israel in their villages.
And all the
people sounded
trumpets, and
shouted with a loud voice, singing songs of
thanksgiving unto the Lord for the rearing up of the house of the Lord.
Insomuch that the
trumpets might not be heard for the
weeping of the
people: yet the multitude sounded marvellously, so that it was heard
afar off.
Who pulled down the house, and burned it, and carried away the
people captives unto Babylon.
And the children of Israel that came out of the captivity did eat, even all they that had separated themselves from the abominations of the people of the land, and sought the Lord.
With that also which is given of the
people for the temple of the Lord their God at Jerusalem: and that silver and gold may be collected for bullocks, rams, and lambs, and things
thereunto appertaining;
And they delivered the king’s commandments unto the king’s stewards’ and to the governors of Celosyria and Phenice; and they honoured the people and the temple of God.
The nation of Israel, the princes, the priests and Levites, have not put away from them the strange
people of the land, nor the pollutions of the Gentiles to wit, of the
Canaanites,
Hittites, Pheresites, Jebusites, and the Moabites, Egyptians, and Edomites.
For both they and their sons have married with their daughters, and the holy seed is mixed with the strange people of the land; and from the beginning of this matter the rulers and the great men have been partakers of this iniquity.
But
forasmuch as the
people are many, and it is foul weather, so that we cannot stand without, and this is not a work of a day or two, seeing our sin in these things is spread far:
And all the
people answered,
Amen; and lifting up their hands they fell to the ground, and worshipped the Lord.
So the Levites published all things to the people, saying, This day is holy to the Lord; be not sorrowful.
Go thy way, and
shew my
people their sinful deeds, and their children their wickedness which they have done against me; that they may tell their children’s children:
Pull thou off then the hair of thy head, and cast all evil upon them, for they have not been
obedient unto my law, but it is a
rebellious people.
All the nations have I destroyed before them, and in the east I have scattered the
people of two provinces, even of Tyrus and
Sidon, and have slain all their enemies.
That ye would be my people, and I should be your God; that ye would be my children, and I should be your father?
Your houses will I give to a people that shall come; which not having heard of me yet shall believe me; to whom I have shewed no signs, yet they shall do that I have commanded them.
I take to witness the grace of the
people to come, whose little ones
rejoice in
gladness: and though they have not seen me with bodily eyes, yet in spirit they believe the thing that I say.
And now, brother, behold what glory; and see the people that come from the east:
Thus saith the Lord, I brought this
people out of
bondage, and I gave them my commandments by menservants the prophets; whom they would not hear, but
despised my counsels.
Woe be unto thee, Assur, thou that hidest the unrighteous in thee! O thou wicked
people, remember what I did unto
Sodom and Gomorrha;
