And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof;
howbeit the slingers went about it, and
smote it.
They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree. Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in
place, but men with
slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
But
Naaman was
wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the
place, and recover the
leper.
But
Naaman went away
angry, saying, “I thought that he would surely come out, stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the spot to cure my
leprosy.
And the sons of the prophets said unto
Elisha, Behold now, the
place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
Now the sons of the prophets said to
Elisha, “Please take note that the
place where we meet with you is too small for us.
Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
Please let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a log so we can build ourselves a
place to live there.” “Go,” said
Elisha.
And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the
place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did
swim.
“Where did it fall?” asked the man of God. And when he showed him the
place, the man of God cut a stick, threw it there, and made the iron
float.
Then the king of Syria
warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a
place shall be my camp.

Aram was at war against Israel. After
consulting with his servants, he said, “My camp will be in such and such a
place.”
And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying,
Beware that thou pass not such a
place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
Then the man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Be careful passing by this place, for the Arameans are going down there.”
And the king of Israel sent to the
place which the man of God told him and
warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
So the king of Israel sent word to the
place the man of God had pointed out. Time and again
Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such
places.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and
dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and
Hazael reigned in his
stead.
But the next day
Hazael took a thick cloth,
dipped it in water, and spread it over the king’s face. So Ben-
hadad died, and
Hazael reigned in his
place.

place.
But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not removed; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants,
smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
His servants Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer struck him down, and he died. And they buried him with his fathers in the City of David, and his son
Amaziah reigned in his
place.
And
Jehoahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. And his son Jehoash reigned in his
place.
Howbeit the high

And Jehoash
slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and
Jeroboam his son reigned in his
stead.

place.
And all the people of Judah took
Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father
Amaziah.
Then all the people of Judah took
Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in
place of his father
Amaziah.
And
Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Jeroboam rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. And his son
Zechariah reigned in his
place.
Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.

For Menahem the son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, and came to Samaria, and
smote Shallum the son of

slew him, and reigned in his
stead.

Jabesh, and reigned in his
place.

slept with his fathers; and Pekahiah his son reigned in his
stead.

conspired against him, and
smote him in Samaria, in the palace of the king’s house, with
Argob and Arieh, and with him fifty men of the Gileadites: and he killed him, and reigned in his room.
Then his officer, Pekah son of Remaliah,
conspired against him along with
Argob, Arieh, and fifty men of
Gilead. And at the citadel of the king’s palace in Samaria, Pekah struck down and killed Pekahiah and reigned in his
place.
And Hoshea the son of Elah made a
conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and
smote him, and
slew him, and reigned in his
stead, in the
twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.
Then Hoshea son of Elah led a
conspiracy against Pekah son of Remaliah. In the
twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah, Hoshea attacked Pekah, killed him, and reigned in his

Howbeit the high
places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high
places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.
And Jotham
slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and
Ahaz his son reigned in his
stead.
And Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David his father. And his son
Ahaz reigned in his
place.

Hezekiah reigned in his
place.
In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and carried away the Israelites to Assyria, where he settled them in Halah, in Gozan by the Habor River, and in the cities of the Medes.
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high
places in all their cities, from the tower of the
watchmen to the
fenced city.
The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From
watchtower to fortified city, they built high
places in all their cities.
And there they burnt incense in all the high
places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to
provoke the LORD to anger:
They burned incense on all the high
places like the nations that the LORD had driven out before them. They did wicked things,
provoking the LORD to anger.
And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from
Ava, and from
Hamath, and from
Sepharvaim, and
placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
Then the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva,
Hamath, and
Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took possession of Samaria and lived in its towns.
Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and
placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they
slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.
So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The peoples that you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land. Because of this, He has sent lions among them, which are indeed killing them off.”
Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high
places which the
Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
Nevertheless, the people of each nation continued to make their own gods in the cities where they had settled, and they set them up in the shrines that the people of Samaria had made on the high places.
So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
So the new residents worshiped the LORD, but they also appointed for themselves priests of all sorts to serve in the shrines of the high places.
He removed the high
places, and
brake the images, and cut down the groves, and
brake in pieces the
brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it
Nehushtan.
He removed the high
places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He also
demolished the bronze
snake called
Nehushtan that Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had burned incense to it.
But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high
places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high
places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem: ‘You must worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
So now, was it apart from the LORD that I have come up against this place to destroy it? The LORD Himself said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’”
I have
digged and
drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged
places.
I have
dug wells and
drunk foreign waters. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.”
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god
Nisroch, his sons
Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the land of
Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his
place.
And
Hezekiah rested with his fathers, and his son
Manasseh reigned in his
place.
For he built up again the high
places which
Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for
Baal, and made a
grove, as did
Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high
places that his father
Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up altars for
Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King
Ahab of Israel had done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
And
Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Manasseh rested with his fathers and was buried in his palace garden, the garden of Uzza. And his son Amon reigned in his
place.
And the people of the land
slew all them that had
conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made
Josiah his son king in his
stead.
But the people of the land killed all those who had
conspired against King Amon, and they made his son
Josiah king in his
place.
And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza, and his son
Josiah reigned in his
place.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this
place and on its people, according to all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read,
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be
kindled against this
place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath will be
kindled against this
place and will not be
quenched.’
Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled
thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this
place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a
desolation and a
curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and
wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this
place and against its people, that they would become a
desolation and a
curse, and because you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this
place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And he put down the
idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high
places in the cities of Judah, and in the
places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto
Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Josiah also did away with the
idolatrous priests ordained by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high
places of the cities of Judah and in the
places all around Jerusalem—those who had burned incense to
Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the high
places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high
places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and
desecrated the high
places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He
tore down the high
places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
Nevertheless the priests of the high
places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the
unleavened bread among their brethren.
Although the priests of the high
places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, they
ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.
And the high
places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for
Ashtoreth the
abomination of the Zidonians, and for
Chemosh the
abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the
abomination of the children of
Ammon, did the king
defile.
And he
brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their
places with the bones of men.
He
smashed the sacred pillars to pieces, cut down the Asherah poles, and covered the sites with human bones.
Moreover the altar that was at
Bethel, and the high
place which
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high
place he
brake down, and burned the high
place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the
grove.
He even pulled down the altar at
Bethel, the high
place set up by
Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin. Then he burned the high
place, ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole.
And all the houses also of the high
places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to
provoke the LORD to anger,
Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in
Bethel.
Just as
Josiah had done at
Bethel, so also in the cities of Samaria he removed all the shrines of the high
places set up by the kings of Israel who had
provoked the LORD to anger.
And he
slew all the priests of the high
places that were there upon the altars, and burned men’s bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.
On the altars he slaughtered all the priests of the high places, and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
From

anointed him, and made him king in
place of his father.

Josiah king in the room of

Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there.
Then Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim son of
Josiah king in
place of his father
Josiah, and he changed Eliakim’s name to
Jehoiakim. But Neco took
Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt, where he died.

stead, and changed his name to

place and changed his name to
Zedekiah.

stead.

And when Husham was dead,
Hadad the son of Bedad, which
smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
When Husham died,
Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated
Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his
place. And the name of his city was Avith.
And when
Hadad was dead, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his
stead.
When
Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah reigned in his
place.
And when Samlah was dead, Shaul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his
stead.
When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the Euphrates reigned in his place.
And when Shaul was dead,
Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his
stead.
When Shaul died,
Baal-hanan son of Achbor reigned in his
place.
And when
Baal-hanan was dead,
Hadad reigned in his
stead: and the name of his city was Pai; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
When
Baal-hanan died,
Hadad reigned in his
place. His city was named
Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-zahab.
And these written by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and
smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.
These who were noted by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites and Meunites there in their dwellings,
devoting them to destruction even to this day. Then they settled in their
place, because there was pasture for their flocks.
And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.
They ministered with song before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. And they performed their duties according to the regulations given them.
But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the
place most holy, and to make an
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy
Place. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense to make
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
Now these are their dwelling places throughout their castles in their coasts, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: for theirs was the lot.
Now these were the territories assigned to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clan for their settlements, because the first lot fell to them:
He was with David at
Pas-dammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a
parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.
He was with David at
Pas-dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. At the
place with a field full of barley, the troops fled from the Philistines.
And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that
place is called
Perez-uzza to this day.
Then David became
angry because the LORD had
burst forth against Uzzah; so he named that
place Perez-uzzah, as it is called to this day.
So they came up to
Baal-perazim; and David
smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that
place Baal-perazim.
So David and his men went up to
Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a
bursting flood, God has
burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that
place Baal-perazim.
And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.
David constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.
And David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites:
sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the
place that I have prepared for it.
And he said to them, “You are the heads of the
Levitical families. You and your relatives must
consecrate yourselves so that you may bring the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the
place I have prepared for it.
So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
So they brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and
gladness are in his
place.
Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy fill His dwelling.
And
Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high
place that was at
Gibeon,
And David left
Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high
place in
Gibeon Also I will
ordain a
place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their
place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
And I will provide a
place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a
place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Then he
placed garrisons in
Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And he put garrisons in
Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
He
placed garrisons in
Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of
Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in
array against the children of
Ammon.
And he
placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother
Abishai, who
arrayed them against the
Ammonites.
And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to
weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much
spoil out of the city.
Then David took the crown from the head of their king. It was found to
weigh a talent of gold and was set with precious stones, and it was
placed on David’s head. And David took a great amount of
plunder from the city.
Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the site of this
threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD. Sell it to me for the full price, so that the plague upon the people may be
halted.”
So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
So David paid Ornan six hundred shekels of gold for the site.
For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high
place at
Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of the LORD that Moses had made in the wilderness and the altar of burnt offering were presently at the high
place in
Gibeon,
And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
So the Levites were to carry out the responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting and the Holy Place, and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, the service of the house of the LORD.
Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the
footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
Then King David rose to his feet and said, “
Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting
place for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and as a
footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build it,
Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the
place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and
prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in
place of his father David. He
prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his
stead.
He died at a ripe old age, full of years, riches, and honor, and his son Solomon reigned in his place.
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high
place that was at
Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
And Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high
place at
Gibeon because it was the
location of God’s Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.
Now David had brought the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.
And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his
stead.
Solomon replied to God: “You have shown much loving devotion to my father David, and You have made me king in his place.
