Solomon accumulated 1,400
chariots and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.
But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
But who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him? Who then am I, that I should build a house for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?
Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount
Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the
place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount
Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. This was the
place that David had prepared on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And he made the most holy house, the length
whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
Then he made the Most Holy Place; its length corresponded to the width of the temple—twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.
And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.
In the Most Holy
Place he made two
cherubim of sculptured work, and he overlaid them with gold.
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
He also made ten basins for washing and
placed five on the south side and five on the north. The parts of the burnt offering were
rinsed in them, but the priests used the Sea for washing.
And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form, and set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.
He made ten gold lampstands according to their specifications and placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north.
He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basons of gold.
Additionally, he made ten tables and
placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north. He also made a hundred gold
bowls.
And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables
whereon the
shewbread was set;
Solomon also made all the furnishings for the house of God: the golden altar; the tables on which was placed the Bread of the Presence;
And the
snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy
place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.
the
wick trimmers,
sprinkling bowls, ladles, and censers of purest gold; and the gold doors of the temple: the inner doors to the Most Holy
Place as well as the doors of the main hall.
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he
placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his
place, to the
oracle of the house, into the most holy
place, even under the wings of the cherubims:
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its
place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy
Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the
place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the
staves thereof above.
For the
cherubim spread their wings over the
place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its poles.
And they drew out the
staves of the ark, that the ends of the
staves were seen from the ark before the
oracle; but they were not seen without. And there it is unto this day.
The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had
placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy
place: (for all the priests that were present were
sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,
But I have built an house of
habitation for thee, and a
place for thy dwelling for ever.
and I have built You an
exalted house, a
place for You to dwell
forever.”
And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”
For Solomon had made a
brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and
kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,
Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had
placed it in the middle of the
courtyard. He stood on it,
knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the
place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this
place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this
place: hear thou from thy dwelling
place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this
place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling
place. May You hear and
forgive.
When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have
sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this
place, and
confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou
dost afflict them;
When the
skies are shut and there is no rain because Your people have
sinned against You, and they pray toward this
place and
confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have
afflicted them,
Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling
place, and
forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling
place. And may You
forgive and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of men—
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling
place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as
doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling
place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and
forgive thy people which have
sinned against thee.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling
place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause. May You
forgive Your people who
sinned against You.
Now, my God, let, I
beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be
attent unto the prayer that is made in this
place.
Now, my God, may Your eyes be open and Your ears
attentive to the prayer offered in this
place.
Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting
place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints
rejoice in goodness.
Now therefore, arise, O LORD God, and enter Your resting
place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your godly ones
rejoice in goodness.
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
the LORD appeared to him at night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears
attent unto the prayer that is made in this
place.
Now My eyes will be open and My ears
attentive to the prayers offered in this
place.
And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the
places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
And there were six steps to the throne, with a
footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the sitting
place, and two lions standing by the stays:
The throne had six steps, and a
footstool of gold was attached to it. There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with a lion standing beside each armrest.
And Solomon
slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his
place.
And he ordained him priests for the high
places, and for the devils, and for the
calves which he had made.
And
Jeroboam appointed his own priests for the high
places and for the goat demons and
calf idols he had made.
Instead of which king
Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their
place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
And
Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Abijah reigned in his
place.
So
Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in his
stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Then
Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Asa reigned in his
place, and in his days the land was at peace for ten years.
For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high
places, and
brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
He removed the foreign altars and high
places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and
chopped down the Asherah poles.
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also removed the high places and incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and under him the kingdom was at peace.
But the high
places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of
Asa was perfect all his days.
The high
places were not removed from Israel, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.
And
Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his
stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
Asa’s son
Jehoshaphat reigned in his
place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
And he
placed forces in all the
fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which
Asa his father had taken.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father
Asa had captured.
And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD;
furthermore, he removed the high
places and Asherah poles from Judah.
And the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void
place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets
prophesied before them.
Dressed in royal
attire, the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the
threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets
prophesying before them.
And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
When the men of Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the vast army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; no one had escaped.
And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, where they blessed the LORD. Therefore that place is called the Valley of Beracah to this day.
Howbeit the high
places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their fathers.
Now
Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And his son Jehoram reigned in his
place.
Moreover he made high
places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit
fornication, and compelled Judah
thereto.
Jehoram had also built high
places on the hills of Judah; he had caused the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves and had led Judah
astray.
And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah his youngest son king in his
stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So
Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
Then the people of Jerusalem made
Ahaziah, the youngest son of Jehoram, king in his
place, since the raiders who had come into the camp with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. So
Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
At the king’s command a chest was made and placed outside, at the gate of the house of the LORD.
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his
place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its
place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
The accounts of the sons of
Joash, as well as the many pronouncements about him and about the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son
Amaziah reigned in his
place.
Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father
Amaziah.
All the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in
place of his father
Amaziah.
So Uzziah
slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a
leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his
stead.
And Uzziah rested with his fathers and was buried near them in a field of burial that belonged to the kings; for the people said, “He was a
leper.” And his son Jotham reigned in his
place.
And Jotham
slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Ahaz his son reigned in his
stead.
And Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Ahaz reigned in his
place.
He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
And in every several city of Judah he made high
places to burn incense unto other gods, and
provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
In every city of Judah he built high
places to offer incense to other gods, and so he
provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers.
And
Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the
sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and
Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of Jerusalem, but he was not
placed in the tombs of the kings of Israel. And his son
Hezekiah reigned in his
place.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
Also they have shut up the doors of the
porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy
place unto the God of Israel.
They also shut the doors of the
portico and
extinguished the lamps. They did not burn incense or present burnt offerings in the Holy
Place of the God of Israel.
And they stood in their
place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests
sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of the Levites.
They stood at their prescribed posts, according to the Law of Moses the man of God. The priests
sprinkled the blood, which they received from the hand of the Levites.
Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.
Then the priests and the Levites stood to
bless the people, and God heard their voice, and their prayer came into His holy dwelling
place in heaven.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and
brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high
places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
When all this had ended, the Israelites in attendance went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars,
chopped down the Asherah poles, and
tore down the high
places and altars throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and
Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own property.
Hath not the same
Hezekiah taken away his high
places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
Did not
Hezekiah himself remove His high
places and His altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn sacrifices’?
And
Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the
sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And
Manasseh his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Hezekiah rested with his fathers and was buried in the upper tombs of David’s descendants. All Judah and the people of Jerusalem paid him honor at his death. And his son
Manasseh reigned in his
place.
For he built again the high
places which
Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for
Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high
places that his father
Hezekiah had
torn down, and he raised up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.
Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the
places wherein he built high
places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.
His prayer and how God received his
plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high
places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers.
So
Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Manasseh rested with his fathers and was buried at his palace. And his son Amon reigned in his
place.
But the people of the land
slew all them that had
conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made
Josiah his son king in his
stead.
But the people of the land killed all those who had
conspired against King Amon, and they made his son
Josiah king in his
place.
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the
twelfth year he began to
purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high
places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images.
In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young,
Josiah began to seek the God of his father David, and in the
twelfth year he began to
cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high
places, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images.
And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
Then Shaphan brought the book to the king and reported, “Your servants are doing all that has been placed in their hands.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this
place and on its people, according to all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the king of Judah,
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this
place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath will be poured out upon this
place and will not be
quenched.’
Because thine heart was tender, and thou
didst humble
thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this
place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst
thyself before me, and
didst rend thy clothes, and
weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before God when you heard His words against this
place and against its people, and because you have humbled
yourself before Me and you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this
place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And the king stood in his
place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book.
And stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites.
Moreover, stand in the Holy
Place by the divisions of the families of your
kinsmen the lay people, and by the divisions of the families of the Levites.
So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king’s commandment.
So the service was prepared; the priests stood in their places and the Levites in their divisions according to the king’s command.
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their
place, according to the commandment of David, and
Asaph, and Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer; and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer. And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their position, because their fellow Levites made preparations for them.
Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz the son of
Josiah, and made him king in his father’s
stead in Jerusalem.
Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz son of
Josiah and made him king in Jerusalem in
place of his father.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and
Jehoiachin his son reigned in his
stead.
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, the abominations he committed, and all that was found against him, they are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And his son
Jehoiachin reigned in his
place.
And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up
betimes, and sending; because he had
compassion on his people, and on his dwelling
place:
Again and again the LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to His people through His messengers because He had
compassion on them and on His dwelling
place.
And
whosoever remaineth in any
place where he sojourneth, let the men of his
place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the
freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.
And let every
survivor, wherever he lives, be assisted by the men of that region with silver, gold, goods, and
livestock, along with a
freewill offering for the house of God in Jerusalem.’”
Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which
Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods;
King Cyrus also brought out the articles belonging to the house of the LORD that
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and
placed in the temple of his gods.
And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:
When they arrived at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave
freewill offerings to rebuild the house of God on its original site.
And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
and
instructed, ‘Take these articles, put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.’
In the first year of Cyrus the king the same Cyrus the king made a decree concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be builded, the
place where they offered sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof
threescore cubits;
In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem: Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its foundations be firmly laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide,
And also let the golden and silver vessels of the house of God, which
Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple which is at Jerusalem, and brought unto Babylon, be restored, and brought again unto the temple which is at Jerusalem, every one to his
place, and
place them in the house of God.
Furthermore, the gold and silver articles of the house of God, which
Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and carried to Babylon, must also be returned to the temple in Jerusalem and deposited in the house of God.
Now therefore, Tatnai, governor beyond the river, Shethar-boznai, and your companions the
Apharsachites, which are beyond the river, be ye far from thence:
Therefore
Darius decreed: To Tattenai governor of the region west of the Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and your associates and officials in the region: You must stay away from that
place!
Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place.
Leave this work on the house of God alone. Let the governor and elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.
And I sent them with commandment unto
Iddo the chief at the
place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto
Iddo, and to his brethren the
Nethinims, at the
place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.
And I sent them to
Iddo, the leader at Casiphia, with a message for him and his
kinsmen, the temple servants at Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God.
And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a
remnant to escape, and to give us a
nail in his holy
place, that our God may
lighten our eyes, and give us a little
reviving in our

But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the LORD our God to preserve for us a
remnant and to give us a
stake in His holy

bondage, our God has given us new life and light to our eyes.
But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the
uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the
place that I have chosen to set my name there.
but if you return to Me and keep and practice My commandments, then even if your exiles have been banished to the

And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be

Beyond him,
Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of a half-district of Beth-zur, made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial
pool and the House of the Mighty.
Moreover the
Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the
place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out.
and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the tower that juts out.
After him repaired Malchiah the
goldsmith’s son unto the
place of the
Nethinims, and of the merchants, over against the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner.
Next to him, Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the upper room above the corner.
