The
trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the
priests’.
The money from the guilt offerings and sin offerings was not brought into the house of the LORD; it belonged to the priests.
And king
Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus: and king
Ahaz sent to Urijah the
priest the fashion of the altar, and the pattern of it, according to all the
workmanship thereof.
Then King
Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria. On seeing the altar in Damascus, King
Ahaz sent Uriah the
priest a model of the altar and complete plans for its construction.
And Urijah the
priest built an altar according to all that king
Ahaz had sent from Damascus: so Urijah the
priest made it against king
Ahaz came from Damascus.
And Uriah the
priest built the altar according to all the instructions King
Ahaz had sent from Damascus, and he completed it by the time King
Ahaz had returned.
And king
Ahaz commanded Urijah the
priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and
sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the
brasen altar shall be for me to
enquire by.
Then King
Ahaz commanded Uriah the
priest, “Offer on the great altar the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, as well as the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings of all the people of the land.
Sprinkle on the altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar to seek guidance.”
Thus did Urijah the
priest, according to all that king
Ahaz commanded.
So Uriah the
priest did just as King
Ahaz had commanded.
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Then the king of Assyria commanded: “Send back one of the priests you carried off from Samaria, and have him go back to live there and teach the requirements of the God of the land.”
Then one of the
priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in
Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.
Thus one of the
priests they had carried away came and lived in
Bethel, and he began to teach them how they should worship the LORD.
So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
So the new residents worshiped the LORD, but they also appointed for themselves priests of all sorts to serve in the shrines of the high places.
And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and the elders of the
priests, covered with
sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and the leading
priests, all wearing
sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest and have him count the money that has been brought into the house of the LORD, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people.
And Hilkiah the high
priest said unto Shaphan the
scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
Then Hilkiah the high
priest said to Shaphan the
scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan, who read it.
And Shaphan the
scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the
priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
Moreover, Shaphan the
scribe told the king, “Hilkiah the
priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the
priest, and
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the
scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
and commanded Hilkiah the
priest,
Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah the servant of the king:
So Hilkiah the
priest, and
Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
So Hilkiah the
priest,
Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went and spoke to Huldah the
prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the keeper of the
wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the prophets—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the high
priest, and the
priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for
Baal, and for the
grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto
Bethel.
Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high
priest, the
priests second in rank, and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the LORD all the articles made for
Baal, Asherah, and all the host of heaven. And he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and carried their ashes to
Bethel.
And he put down the
idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto
Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Josiah also did away with the
idolatrous priests ordained by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high places of the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem—those who had burned incense to
Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
And he brought all the
priests out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the high places where the
priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the
priests from the cities of Judah and
desecrated the high places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the
priests had burned incense. He
tore down the high places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
Nevertheless the
priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the
unleavened bread among their brethren.
Although the
priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, they
ate unleavened bread with their fellow
priests.
And he
slew all the
priests of the high places that were there upon the altars, and burned men’s bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.
On the altars he slaughtered all the priests of the high places, and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were
spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the
priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the
priest had found in the house of the LORD.
And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief
priest, and
Zephaniah the second
priest, and the three keepers of the door:
The captain of the guard also took away Seraiah the chief
priest,
Zephaniah the
priest of second rank, and the three doorkeepers.
And Johanan
begat Azariah, (he it is that executed the
priest’s office in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem:)
Johanan was the father of
Azariah, who served as
priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem,
Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the
priests, Levites, and the
Nethinims.
Now the first to resettle their own property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
And of the
priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and
Jachin,
From the
priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and
Jachin;
And some of the sons of the
priests made the
ointment of the spices.
And some of the sons of the priests mixed the spices.
And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:
And he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so that they may join us.
And David called for
Zadok and
Abiathar the
priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and
Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and
Amminadab,
So the
priests and the Levites
sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.
So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And Shebaniah, and
Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amasai, and
Zechariah, and Benaiah, and
Eliezer, the
priests, did blow with the
trumpets before the ark of God: and Obed-
edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.
Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai,
Zechariah, Benaiah, and
Eliezer—the
priests—were to blow the
trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-
edom and Jehiah were also to be guardians of the ark.
Benaiah also and Jahaziel the
priests with
trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
and the
priests Benaiah and Jahaziel
blew the
trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.
And
Zadok the
priest, and his brethren the
priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at
Gibeon,
And David left
Zadok the
priest and his fellow
priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in
Gibeon And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
Then he gathered all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites.
But
Nadab and
Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore
Eleazar and
Ithamar executed the
priest’s office.
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and
Zadok the
priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the
priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for
Eleazar, and one taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers:
Zadok the
priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the
priests and the Levites—one family being taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
These likewise cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and
Zadok, and
Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the
priests and Levites, even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren.
As their brothers the descendants of Aaron did, they also cast lots in the presence of King David and of
Zadok,
Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the
priests and Levites—the family heads and their younger brothers alike.
The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
The third army commander, as chief for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.
for the divisions of the priests and Levites, for all the work of service in the house of the LORD, and for all the articles of service in the house of the LORD:
And, behold, the courses of the
priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of
workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.
The divisions of the
priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the house of God, and every willing man of every skill will be at your
disposal for the work. The officials and all the people are fully at your command.”
And did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great
gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and
anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and
Zadok to be
priest.
That day they
ate and
drank with great joy in the presence of the LORD. Then, for a second time, they designated David’s son Solomon as king,
anointing him before the LORD as ruler, and
Zadok as the
priest.
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
He also made ten basins for washing and placed five on the south side and five on the north. The parts of the burnt offering were
rinsed in them, but the
priests used the Sea for washing.
Furthermore he made the court of the
priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.
He made the
courtyard of the
priests and the large court with its doors, and he overlaid the doors with bronze.
And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, these did the priests and the Levites bring up.
and they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting with all its sacred furnishings. The
Levitical priests carried them up.
And the
priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the
oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:
Then the
priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
And it came to pass, when the
priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the
priests that were present were
sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of
Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being
arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty
priests sounding with
trumpets:)
all the
Levitical singers—
Asaph, Heman,
Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120
priests sounding
trumpets.
So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy
priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints
rejoice in goodness.
Now therefore, arise, O LORD God, and enter Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your
priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your godly ones
rejoice in goodness.
And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.
The priests were unable to enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled it.
And the
priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the
priests sounded
trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The
priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the LORD, which King David had made for giving
thanks to the LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the
priests sounded
trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the
priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the
priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures.
They did not turn aside from the king’s command regarding the
priests or the Levites or any matter concerning the
treasuries.
And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
Moreover, the
priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel stood with
Rehoboam.
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for
Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from
executing the
priest’s office unto the LORD:
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because
Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as
priests of the LORD.
And he ordained him
priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the
calves which he had made.
And
Jeroboam appointed his own
priests for the high places and for the goat demons and
calf idols he had made.
Have ye not cast out the
priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you
priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a
priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the
priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make
priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a
priest of things that are not gods.
But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not
forsaken him; and the
priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
But as for us, the LORD is our God. We have not
forsaken Him; the
priests who minister to the LORD are sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties.
And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his
priests with sounding
trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not
prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is with us as our head, and His
priests with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.”
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the
priests sounded with the
trumpets.
When Judah turned and discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the LORD. Then the
priests blew the
trumpets,
Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a
priest to
instruct them, and without the law.
And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and
Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and
Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram,
priests.
accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah,
Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and
Tob-adonijah—along with the
priests Elishama and Jehoram.
Moreover in Jerusalem did
Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the
priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for
controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
Moreover,
Jehoshaphat appointed in Jerusalem some of the Levites,
priests, and heads of the
Israelite families to judge on behalf of the LORD and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem.
And, behold, Amariah the chief
priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of
Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal
courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.
Note that Amariah, the chief
priest, will be over you in all that pertains to the LORD, and Zebadiah son of
Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all that pertains to the king. And the Levites will serve as officers before you. Act
resolutely; may the LORD be with the upright!”
But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took
Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his
nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the
priest, (for she was the sister of
Ahaziah,)
hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being murdered, and she put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the
priest, was
Ahaziah’s sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.
This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the
priests and of the Levites, shall be
porters of the doors;
This is what you are to do: A third of you priests and Levites who come on duty on the Sabbath shall keep watch at the doors,
But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.
No one is to enter the house of the LORD except the priests and those Levites who serve; they may enter because they are consecrated, but all the people are to obey the requirement of the LORD.
So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
So the Levites and all Judah did everything that Jehoiada the priest had ordered. Each of them took his men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—for Jehoiada the priest had not released any of the divisions.
Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the house of God.
Then Jehoiada the priest gave to the commanders of hundreds the spears and the large and small shields of King David that were in the house of God.
Then Jehoiada the
priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and
whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the
priest said,
Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
And Jehoiada the
priest sent out the commanders of hundreds in charge of the army, saying, “Bring her out between the ranks, and put to the sword
anyone who follows her.” For the
priest had said, “She must not be put to death in the house of the LORD.”
Then all the people went to the house of
Baal, and
brake it down, and
brake his altars and his images in pieces, and
slew Mattan the
priest of
Baal before the altars.
So all the people went to the temple of
Baal and
tore it down. They
smashed the altars and idols to pieces and killed Mattan the
priest of
Baal in front of the altars.
Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the
priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with
rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
Moreover, Jehoiada put the oversight of the house of the LORD into the hands of the
Levitical priests, whom David had appointed over the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD as is written in the Law of Moses, with
rejoicing and song, as ordained by David.
And
Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the
priest.
And
Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the
priest.
And he gathered together the
priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye
hasten the matter.
Howbeit the Levites
hastened it not.
So he gathered the
priests and Levites and said, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the house of your God. Do it quickly.” The Levites, however, did not make
haste.
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the high
priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the high
priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
And the Spirit of God came upon
Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the
priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why
transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot
prosper? because ye have
forsaken the LORD, he hath also
forsaken you.
Then the Spirit of God came upon
Zechariah son of Jehoiada the
priest, who stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you
transgress the commandments of the LORD so that you cannot
prosper? Because you have
forsaken the LORD, He has
forsaken you.’”
And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants
conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the
priest, and
slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the
sepulchres of the kings.
And when the Arameans had withdrawn, they left
Joash severely wounded. His own servants
conspired against him for
shedding the blood of the son of Jehoiada the
priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Then
Azariah the
priest, along with eighty
brave priests of the LORD, went in after him.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the
priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
Then Uzziah was
wroth, and had a
censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was
wroth with the
priests, the
leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the
priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
Uzziah, with a
censer in his hand to offer incense, was
enraged. But while he
raged against the
priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the altar of incense,
leprosy broke out on his
forehead.
And
Azariah the chief
priest, and all the
priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was
leprous in his
forehead, and they thrust him out from thence;
yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had
smitten him.
And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the east street,
Then he brought in the priests and Levites and gathered them in the square on the east side.
And the
priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to
cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the
brook Kidron.
So the
priests went inside the house of the LORD to
cleanse it, and they brought out to the
courtyard all the unclean things that they found in the temple of the LORD. Then the Levites took these things and carried them out to the Kidron Valley.
And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And the king commanded the priests, the descendants of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the LORD.
So they killed the bullocks, and the
priests received the blood, and
sprinkled it on the altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they
sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they
sprinkled the blood upon the altar.
So they slaughtered the bulls, and the
priests took the blood and
sprinkled it on the altar. They slaughtered the rams and
sprinkled the blood on the altar. And they slaughtered the lambs and
sprinkled the blood on the altar.
And the
priests killed them, and they made
reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an
atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.
And the
priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the altar for a sin offering, to make
atonement for all Israel, because the king had ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.
And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the
priests with the
trumpets.
The Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the
priests with the
trumpets.
But the
priests were too few, so that they could not
flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other
priests had
sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to
sanctify themselves than the
priests.
However, since there were not enough
priests to skin all the burnt offerings, their
Levite brothers helped them until the work was finished and until the
priests had been consecrated. For the Levites had been more
diligent in
consecrating themselves than the
priests had been.
For they could not keep it at that time, because the
priests had not
sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.
since they had been unable to observe it at the regular time, because not enough priests had consecrated themselves and the people had not been gathered in Jerusalem.
Then they killed the
passover on the
fourteenth day of the second month: and the
priests and the Levites were
ashamed, and
sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the house of the LORD.
And on the
fourteenth day of the second month they slaughtered the
Passover lamb. The
priests and Levites were
ashamed, and they consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings to the house of the LORD.
And they stood in their place after their manner, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the
priests sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of the Levites.
They stood at their prescribed posts, according to the Law of Moses the man of God. The
priests sprinkled the blood, which they received from the hand of the Levites.
And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of
unleavened bread seven days with great
gladness: and the Levites and the
priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.
The Israelites who were present in Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of
Unleavened Bread for seven days with great joy, and the Levites and
priests praised the LORD day after day, accompanied by loud instruments of praise to the LORD.
For
Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of
priests sanctified themselves.
For
Hezekiah king of Judah contributed a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for the assembly, and the officials contributed a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep for the assembly, and a great number of
priests consecrated themselves.
And all the congregation of Judah, with the
priests and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah,
rejoiced.
Then the whole assembly of Judah
rejoiced along with the
priests and Levites and the whole assembly that had come from Israel, including the foreigners who had come from Israel and those who lived in Judah.
Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.
Then the
priests and the Levites stood to
bless the people, and God heard their voice, and their prayer came into His holy dwelling place in heaven.
And
Hezekiah appointed the courses of the
priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the
priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give
thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD.
Hezekiah reestablished the divisions of the
priests and Levites—each of them according to their duties as
priests or Levites—for the burnt offerings and peace offerings, for ministry, for giving
thanks, and for singing praises at the gates of the LORD’s dwelling.
Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
Moreover, he commanded the people living in Jerusalem to make a contribution for the
priests and Levites so that they could
devote themselves to the Law of the LORD.
Then
Hezekiah questioned with the
priests and the Levites concerning the heaps.
Then
Hezekiah questioned the
priests and Levites about the heaps,
And
Azariah the chief
priest of the house of
Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left
plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.
and
Azariah, the chief
priest of the household of
Zadok, answered him, “Since the people began to bring their contributions into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat and there is
plenty left over, because the LORD has blessed His people; this great abundance is what is left over.”
