In the seventh month, in the one and
twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the
prophet Haggai, saying,
On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through
Haggai the
prophet, saying:
In the four and
twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of
Darius, came the word of the LORD by
Haggai the
prophet, saying,
On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of
Darius, the word of the LORD came to
Haggai the
prophet, saying,
In the eighth month, in the second year of
Darius, came the word of the LORD unto
Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of
Iddo the
prophet, saying,
In the eighth month of the second year of
Darius, the word of the LORD came to the
prophet Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of
Iddo, saying:
Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former
prophets have
cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor
hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former
prophets proclaimed that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Turn now from your evil ways and deeds.’ But they did not
listen or pay attention to Me, declares the LORD.
Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
Where are your fathers now? And the
prophets, do they live
forever?
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the
prophets, overtake your fathers? They
repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’”
Upon the four and
twentieth day of the
eleventh month, which is the month
Sebat, in the second year of
Darius, came the word of the LORD unto
Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of
Iddo the
prophet, saying,
On the twenty-fourth day of the
eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of
Darius, the word of the LORD came to the
prophet Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of
Iddo.
And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the
prophets, saying, Should I
weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
by asking the priests of the house of the LORD of Hosts, as well as the
prophets, “Should I
weep and fast in the fifth month, as I have done these many years?”
Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath
cried by the former
prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?
Are these not the words that the LORD proclaimed through the earlier
prophets, when Jerusalem and its surrounding towns were
populous and prosperous, and the Negev and the foothills were inhabited?’”
Yea, they made their hearts as an
adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former
prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.
They made their hearts like flint and would not
listen to the law or to the words that the LORD of Hosts had sent by His Spirit through the earlier
prophets. Therefore great anger came from the LORD of Hosts.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Let your hands be strong, you who now hear these words spoken by the prophets who were present when the foundations were laid to rebuild the temple, the house of the LORD of Hosts.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.
And on that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will
erase the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the
prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the
prophets shall be
ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath
prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to
deceive:
And on that day every
prophet who prophesies will be
ashamed of his vision, and he will not put on a
hairy cloak in order to
deceive.
But he shall say, I am no
prophet, I am an
husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.
He will say, ‘I am not a prophet; I work the land, for I was purchased as a servant in my youth.’
Behold, I will send you
Elijah the
prophet before the coming of the great and
dreadful day of the LORD:
Behold, I will send you
Elijah the
prophet before the coming of the great and
awesome Day of the LORD.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
All this took place to
fulfill what the Lord had said through the
prophet:
And they said unto him, In
Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the
prophet,
“In
Bethlehem in
Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the
prophet has written:
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
Then what was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:
And he came and dwelt in a city called
Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the
prophets, He shall be called a
Nazarene.
and he went and lived in a town called
Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the
prophets: “He will be called a
Nazarene.”
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’”
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
to
fulfill what was spoken through the
prophet Isaiah:
Rejoice, and be exceeding
glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so
persecuted they the
prophets which were before you.
Rejoice and be
glad, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they
persecuted the
prophets before you.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Do not think that I have come to
abolish the Law or the
Prophets. I have not come to
abolish them, but to
fulfill them.
Therefore all things
whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the
prophets.
In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.
Beware of false
prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are
ravening wolves.
Beware of false
prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are
ravenous wolves.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the
prophet, saying, Himself took our
infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the
prophet Isaiah: “He took on our
infirmities and carried our diseases.”
He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
Whoever receives a
prophet because he is a
prophet will receive a
prophet’s reward, and
whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.
But what went ye out for to see? A
prophet?
yea, I say unto you, and more than a
prophet.
What then did you go out to see? A
prophet?
Yes, I tell you, and more than a
prophet.
For all the
prophets and the law
prophesied until John.
For all the
Prophets and the Law
prophesied until John.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the
prophet Isaiah:
But he answered and said unto them, An evil and
adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the
prophet Jonas:
Jesus replied, “A wicked and
adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of the
prophet Jonah.
For
verily I say unto you, That many
prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
And they were
offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A
prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
And they took
offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own household is a
prophet without honor.”
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
Although Herod wanted to kill John, he was afraid of the people, because they regarded John as a prophet.
A wicked and
adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the
prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
A wicked and
adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of
Jonah.” Then He left them and went away.
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the
prophets.”
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
This took place to
fulfill what was spoken through the
prophet:
But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the people, for they all regard John as a prophet.”
But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
Although they wanted to arrest Him, they were afraid of the crowds, because the people regarded Him as a prophet.
On these two commandments
hang all the law and the
prophets.
All the Law and the
Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in
shedding the blood of the
prophets.’
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto
yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the
prophets.
So you
testify against
yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the
prophets.
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you
prophets, and wise men, and
scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and
crucify; and some of them shall ye
scourge in your synagogues, and
persecute them from city to city:
Because of this, I am sending you
prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and
crucify, and others you will
flog in your synagogues and
persecute in town after town.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the
prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a
hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the
prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
And many false
prophets shall rise, and shall
deceive many.
and many false prophets will arise and mislead many.
When ye therefore shall see the
abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the
prophet, stand in the holy place, (
whoso readeth, let him understand:)
So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the
abomination of
desolation,’ described by the
prophet Daniel (let the reader understand),
For there shall arise false Christs, and false
prophets, and shall
shew great signs and wonders;
insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall
deceive the very
elect.
For false Christs and false
prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would
deceive even the
elect, if that were possible.
But all this was done, that the scriptures of the
prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples
forsook him, and fled.
But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
Then what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on Him by the people of Israel,
And they
crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the
prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my
vesture did they cast lots.
When they had
crucified Him, they divided up His garments by casting lots.
As it is written in the
prophets, Behold, I send my
messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
As it is written in Isaiah the
prophet: “Behold, I will send My
messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way.”
But Jesus said unto them, A
prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own
kin, and in his own house.
Then Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own household is a prophet without honor.”
Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
Others were saying, “He is
Elijah,” and still others, “He is a
prophet, like one of the
prophets of old.”
And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, one of the
prophets.”
But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
But if we say, ‘From men’...” they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John truly was a prophet.
But when ye shall see the
abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the
prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea
flee to the mountains:
So when you see the
abomination of
desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in
Judea flee to the mountains.
For false Christs and false
prophets shall rise, and shall
shew signs and wonders, to
seduce, if it were possible, even the
elect.
For false Christs and false
prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders that would
deceive even the
elect, if that were possible.
As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
as He spoke through His holy prophets, those of ages past,
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for Him,
And there was one
Anna, a
prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her
virginity;
There was also a
prophetess named
Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, who was well along in years. She had been married for seven years,
As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.
And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
the
scroll of the
prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written:
And he said,
Verily I say unto you, No
prophet is accepted in his own country.
Then He added, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown.
And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the
prophet; and none of them was
cleansed, saving
Naaman the
Syrian.
Rejoice ye in that day, and
leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the
prophets.
Rejoice in that day and
leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For their fathers treated the
prophets in the same way.
Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false
prophets.
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers treated the false
prophets in the same way.
And there came a fear on all: and they
glorified God, saying, That a great
prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
A sense of
awe swept over all of them, and they
glorified God. “A great
prophet has appeared among us!” they said. “God has visited His people!”
But what went ye out for to see? A
prophet?
Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a
prophet.
What then did you go out to see? A
prophet?
Yes, I tell you, and more than a
prophet.
For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John, yet even the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
Now when the
Pharisee which had
bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a
prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a
sinner.
When the
Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a
prophet, He would know who this is and what kind of woman is touching Him—for she is a
sinner!”
And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
others that
Elijah had appeared, and still others that a
prophet of old had arisen.
They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, that a
prophet of old has arisen.”
For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of
Jonas the
prophet.
As the crowds were increasing, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of
Jonah.
Woe unto you! for ye build the
sepulchres of the
prophets, and your fathers killed them.
Woe to you! You build tombs for the
prophets, but it was your fathers who killed them.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their
sepulchres.
So you are witnesses consenting to the deeds of your fathers: They killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them
prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall
slay and
persecute:
Because of this, the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them
prophets and apostles; some of them they will kill and others they will
persecute.’
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
As a result, this generation will be charged with the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the foundation of the world,
There shall be
weeping and
gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the
prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you
yourselves thrust out.
There will be
weeping and
gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the
prophets in the kingdom of God, but you
yourselves are thrown out.
Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to
morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a
prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
Nevertheless, I must keep going
today and
tomorrow and the next day, for it is not
admissible for a
prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the
prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a
hen doth gather her
brood under her wings, and ye would not!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the
prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together as a
hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
The Law and the
Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the gospel of the kingdom of God is being preached, and
everyone is forcing his way into it.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the
prophets; let your brothers
listen to them.’
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not
listen to Moses and the
prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
Then Jesus took the Twelve aside and said to them, “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything the prophets have written about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are
convinced that John was a
prophet.”
And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of
Nazareth, which was a
prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
“What things?” He asked. “The events involving Jesus of
Nazareth,” they answered. “This man was a
prophet, powerful in speech and action before God and all the people.
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Then Jesus said to them, “O
foolish ones, how slow are your hearts to believe all that the
prophets have spoken!
And beginning at Moses and all the
prophets, he
expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was written in all the Scriptures about Himself.
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.”
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
“Then who are you?” they inquired. “Are you
Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the
Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet: “I am a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”
And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
asked him, “Why then do you
baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor
Elijah, nor the
Prophet?”
Philip findeth
Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the
prophets, did write, Jesus of
Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
Philip found
Nathanael and told him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law, the One the
prophets foretold—Jesus of
Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
“Sir,” the woman said, “I see that You are a prophet.
For Jesus himself
testified, that a
prophet hath no honour in his own country.
Now He Himself had
testified that a
prophet has no honor in his own hometown.
