Then those men, when they had seen the
miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that
prophet that should come into the world.
When the people saw the sign that Jesus had performed, they began to say, “Truly this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
It is written in the
Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’
Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me—
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
On hearing these words, some of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.”
They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of
Galilee? Search, and look: for out of
Galilee ariseth no
prophet.
“Aren’t you also from
Galilee?” they replied. “Look into it, and you will see that no
prophet comes out of
Galilee.”
Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
“Now we know that You have a
demon!” declared the Jews. “Abraham died, and so did the
prophets, yet You say that
anyone who keeps Your word will never taste death.
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the
prophets are dead: whom makest thou
thyself?
Are You greater than our father Abraham? He died, as did the prophets. Who do You claim to be?”
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
So once again they asked the man who had been blind, “What do you say about Him, since it was your eyes He opened?” “He is a prophet,” the man replied.
That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
This was to
fulfill the word of Isaiah the
prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
But this is that which was spoken by the
prophet Joel;
No, this is what was spoken by the
prophet Joel:
Therefore being a
prophet, and knowing that God had
sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that He would place one of his descendants on his throne.
But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
But in this way God has fulfilled what He
foretold through all the
prophets, saying that His Christ would suffer.
Whom the heaven must receive until the times of
restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy
prophets since the world began.
Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God
announced long ago through His holy
prophets.
For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A
prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things
whatsoever he shall say unto you.
For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a
prophet like me from among your brothers. You must
listen to Him in everything He tells you.
And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
Everyone who does not
listen to Him will be completely cut off from among his people.’
Yea, and all the
prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise
foretold of these days.
Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’
This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the
prophet,
However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
Which of the
prophets have not your fathers
persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
Which of the
prophets did your fathers fail to
persecute? They even killed those who
foretold the coming of the Righteous One. And now you are His betrayers and murderers—
Was returning, and sitting in his
chariot read Esaias the
prophet.
and on his return was sitting in his
chariot reading Isaiah the
prophet.
And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
So Philip ran up and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
And the
eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the
prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
“Tell me,” said the
eunuch, “who is the
prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”
To him give all the
prophets witness, that through his name
whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain
prophets and teachers; as
Barnabas, and
Simeon that was called
Niger, and
Lucius of
Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the
tetrarch, and Saul.
And when they had gone through the isle unto
Paphos, they found a certain
sorcerer, a false
prophet, a
Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:
They traveled through the whole island as far as
Paphos, where they found a Jewish
sorcerer and false
prophet named Bar-Jesus,
And after the reading of the law and the
prophets the rulers of the
synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of
exhortation for the people, say on.
After the reading from the Law and the
Prophets, the
synagogue leaders sent word to them: “Brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.”
And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
All this took about 450 years. After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.
For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the
prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in
condemning him.
The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in
condemning Him they fulfilled the words of the
prophets that are read every Sabbath.
Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the
prophets;
Watch out, then, that what was spoken by the prophets does not happen to you:
And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
The words of the prophets agree with this, as it is written:
And
Judas and
Silas, being
prophets also themselves,
exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.
And as we
tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain
prophet, named
Agabus.
After we had been there several days, a
prophet named
Agabus came down from
Judea.
But this I
confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the
prophets:
I do
confess to you, however, that I worship the God of our fathers according to the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is laid down by the Law and written in the
Prophets,
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
But I have had God’s help to this day, and I stand here to
testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the
prophets and Moses said would happen:
King
Agrippa, believest thou the
prophets? I know that thou believest.
King
Agrippa, do you believe the
prophets? I know you do.”
And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his
lodging; to whom he
expounded and
testified the kingdom of God,
persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the
prophets, from morning till evening.
So they set a day to meet with Paul, and many people came to the place he was staying. He
expounded to them from morning to evening,
testifying about the kingdom of God and
persuading them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and the
Prophets.
And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers,
They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit was right when He spoke to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
(Which he had promised
afore by his
prophets in the holy scriptures,)
the gospel He promised
beforehand through His
prophets in the Holy Scriptures,
But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, as
attested by the Law and the
Prophets.
Lord, they have killed thy
prophets, and
digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
“Lord, they have killed Your
prophets and
torn down Your altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well”?
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the
prophets, according to the commandment of the
everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
but now revealed and made known through the writings of the prophets by the command of the eternal God, in order to lead all nations to the obedience that comes from faith—
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles,
secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments,
diversities of tongues.
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second
prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of
healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
Two or three
prophets should speak, and the others should
weigh carefully what is said.
And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
The spirits of prophets are subject to prophets.
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
If
anyone considers himself a
prophet or spiritual person, let him acknowledge that what I am writing you is the Lord’s command.
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone.
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.
And he gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some,
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be
prophets, some to be
evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own
prophets, and have
persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out as well. They are displeasing to God and hostile to all men,
One of themselves, even a
prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are
alway liars, evil beasts, slow
bellies.
As one of their own
prophets has said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts,
lazy gluttons.”
God, who at
sundry times and in
divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the
prophets,
On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets.
And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of
Barak, and of
Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the
prophets:
And what more shall I say? Time will not allow me to tell of
Gideon,
Barak,
Samson,
Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the
prophets,
Take, my brethren, the
prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering
affliction, and of
patience.
Brothers, as an example of
patience in
affliction, take the
prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Of which salvation the
prophets have enquired and searched
diligently, who
prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
Concerning this salvation, the
prophets who
foretold the grace to come to you searched and investigated carefully,
We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
whereunto ye do well that ye take
heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day
dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
We also have the word of the
prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp
shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
But there were false
prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who
privily shall bring in
damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Now there were also false
prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies, even denying the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
But was
rebuked for his iniquity: the
dumb ass speaking with man’s voice
forbad the madness of the
prophet.
But he was
rebuked for his
transgression by a
donkey, otherwise without speech, that spoke with a man’s voice and restrained the
prophet’s madness.
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
by recalling what was
foretold by the holy
prophets and commanded by our Lord and
Savior through your apostles.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman
Jezebel, which calleth herself a
prophetess, to teach and to
seduce my servants to commit
fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
But I have this against you: You
tolerate that woman
Jezebel, who calls herself a
prophetess. By her teaching she misleads My servants to be sexually immoral and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the
mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the
prophets.
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound his
trumpet, the
mystery of God will be fulfilled, just as He proclaimed to His servants the
prophets.”
And they that dwell upon the earth shall
rejoice over them, and make
merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two
prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
And those who dwell on the earth will
gloat over them, and will
celebrate and send one another gifts, because these two
prophets had
tormented them.
And the nations were
angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the
prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
The nations were
enraged, and Your wrath has come. The time has come to judge the dead and to reward Your servants the
prophets, as well as the saints and those who fear Your name, both small and great— and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.
For they have
spilled the blood of saints and
prophets, and You have given them blood to drink, as they deserve.”
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the
dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false
prophet.
And I saw three unclean spirits that looked like frogs coming out of the mouths of the
dragon, the beast, and the false
prophet.
Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and
prophets; for God hath
avenged you on her.
Rejoice over her, O heaven, O saints and apostles and
prophets, because God has pronounced for you His judgment against her.
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
And there was found in her the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who had been slain on the earth.
And the beast was taken, and with him the false
prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he
deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with
brimstone.
But the beast was captured along with the false
prophet, who on its behalf had performed signs
deceiving those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both the beast and the false
prophet were thrown alive into the
fiery lake of burning sulfur.
And the devil that
deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and
brimstone, where the beast and the false
prophet are, and shall be
tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And the devil who had
deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, into which the beast and the false
prophet had already been thrown. There they will be
tormented day and night
forever and ever.
And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy
prophets sent his angel to
shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
Then the angel said to me, “These words are faithful and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent His angel to show His servants what must soon take place.”
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”
And such a
passover was not kept in Israel since the time of the
prophet Samuel.
Howbeit Josias did not turn back his
chariot from him, but undertook to fight with him, not regarding the words of the
prophet Jeremy spoken by the mouth of the Lord:
And in all
Jewry they
mourned for Josias,
yea, Jeremy the
prophet lamented for Josias, and the chief men with the women made
lamentation for him unto this day: and this was given out for an
ordinance to be done continually in all the nation of Israel.
And he did evil also in the sight of the Lord, and cared not for the words that were spoken unto him by the prophet Jeremy from the mouth of the Lord.
But they had his messengers in
derision; and, look, when the Lord spake unto them, they made a
sport of his
prophets:
Now in the second year of the reign of
Darius Aggeus and
Zacharias the son of Addo, the
prophets,
prophesied unto the Jews in
Jewry and Jerusalem in the name of the Lord God of Israel, which was upon them.
Then stood up Zorobabel the son of Salatiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, the prophets of the Lord being with them, and helping them.
And now, O Lord, what shall we say, having these things? for we have
transgressed thy commandments, which thou gavest by the hand of thy servants the
prophets, saying,
The second book of the
prophet Esdras, the son of Saraias, the son of Azarias, the son of Helchias, the son of Sadamias, the son of Sadoc, the son of Achitob,
I sent unto you my servants the
prophets, whom ye have taken and slain, and
torn their bodies in pieces, whose blood I will require of your hands, saith the Lord.
They have seen no
prophets, yet they shall call their sins to
remembrance, and acknowledge them.
Thus saith the Lord, I brought this people out of
bondage, and I gave them my commandments by menservants the
prophets; whom they would not hear, but
despised my counsels.
Nevertheless they believed not him, nor yet the prophets after him, no nor me which have spoken unto them,
Beware of all
whoredom, my son, and chiefly take a wife of the seed of thy fathers, and take not a strange woman to wife, which is not of thy father’s tribe: for we are the children of the
prophets, Noe, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: remember, my son, that our fathers from the beginning, even that they all married wives of their own kindred, and were blessed in their children, and their seed shall
inherit the land.
Go into Media my son, for I surely believe those things which
Jonas the
prophet spake of Nineve, that it shall be overthrown; and that for a time peace shall rather be in Media; and that our brethren shall lie scattered in the earth from that good land: and Jerusalem shall be
desolate, and the house of God in it shall be burned, and shall be
desolate for a time;
And that again God will have mercy on them, and bring them again into the land, where they shall build a temple, but not like to the first, until the time of that age be fulfilled; and afterward they shall return from all places of their captivity, and build up Jerusalem gloriously, and the house of God shall be built in it for ever with a glorious building, as the prophets have spoken thereof.
And now, my son, depart out of Nineve, because that those things which the
prophet Jonas spake shall surely come to pass.
And being but one, she can do all things: and remaining in herself, she maketh all things new: and in all ages entering into holy souls, she maketh them friends of God, and prophets.
She
prospered their works in the hand of the holy
prophet.
Give testimony unto those that thou hast possessed from the beginning, and raise up prophets that have been in thy name.
Reward them that wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found faithful.
Samuel, the
prophet of the Lord, beloved of his Lord, established a kingdom, and
anointed princes over his people.
By his faithfulness he was found a true prophet, and by his word he was known to be faithful in vision.
Then stood up Elias the prophet as fire, and his word burned like a lamp.
