And as for the
prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even
punish that man and his house.
As for the
prophet or priest or
anyone who claims, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ I will
punish that man and his household.
Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Thus you are to say to the prophet: ‘What has the LORD answered you?’ and ‘What has the LORD spoken?’
The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the residents of Jerusalem as follows:
And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the
prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not
hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.
And the LORD has sent all His servants the
prophets to you again and again, but you have not
listened or inclined your ear to hear.
They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:
The
prophets told you, ‘Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and deeds, and you can dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers
forever and ever.
To
hearken to the words of my servants the
prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not
hearkened;
and if you do not
listen to the words of My servants the
prophets, whom I have sent you again and again even though you did not
listen,
So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
Now the priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD,
Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
and as soon as he had finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say, the priests and
prophets and all the people seized him,
shouting, “You must surely die!
Then spake the priests and the
prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath
prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
Then the priests and
prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man is worthy of death, for he has
prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears!”
Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
Then the officials and all the people told the priests and prophets, “This man is not worthy of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God!”
Therefore
hearken not ye to your
prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:
But as for you, do not
listen to your
prophets, your diviners, your interpreters of dreams, your mediums, or your sorcerers who declare, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon.’
Therefore
hearken not unto the words of the
prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they
prophesy a lie unto you.
Do not
listen to the words of the
prophets who say, ‘You must not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they are
prophesying to you a lie.
For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they
prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the
prophets that
prophesy unto you.
For I have not sent them, declares the LORD, and yet they are
prophesying falsely in My name; therefore I will
banish you, and you will perish—you and the
prophets who
prophesy to you.”
Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD;
Hearken not to the words of your
prophets that
prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’S house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they
prophesy a lie unto you.
Then I said to the priests and to all this people, “This is what the LORD says: Do not
listen to the words of your
prophets who
prophesy to you, saying, ‘Look, very soon now the articles from the house of the LORD will be brought back from Babylon.’ They are
prophesying to you a lie.
But if they be
prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make
intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
If they are indeed
prophets and the word of the LORD is with them, let them now
plead with the LORD of Hosts that the articles remaining in the house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, not be taken to Babylon.
And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the
prophet, which was of
Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King
Zedekiah of Judah, the
prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from
Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:
Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of the LORD,
Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD.
Even the
prophet Jeremiah said,
Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy words which thou hast
prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD’S house, and all that is carried away
captive, from Babylon into this place.
“
Amen!” Jeremiah said. “May the LORD do so! May the LORD
fulfill the words you have
prophesied, and may He restore the articles of His house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon.
The
prophets that have been before me and before thee of old
prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of
pestilence.
The
prophets of old who preceded you and me
prophesied war,
disaster, and plague against many lands and great kingdoms.
The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent him.
As for the prophet who prophesies peace, only if the word of the prophet comes true will the prophet be recognized as one the LORD has truly sent.”
Then Hananiah the
prophet took the yoke from off the
prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and
brake it.
Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it.
And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Even so will I break the yoke of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years. And the
prophet Jeremiah went his way.
And in the presence of all the people Hananiah proclaimed, “This is what the LORD says: ‘In this way, within two years I will break the yoke of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations.’” At this, Jeremiah the
prophet went on his way.
Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the prophet, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
But shortly after Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke off his neck, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.
Then the
prophet Jeremiah said to the
prophet Hananiah, “
Listen, Hananiah! The LORD did not send you, but you have persuaded this people to trust in a lie.
So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
And in the seventh month of that very year, the prophet Hananiah died.
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the
prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away
captives, and to the priests, and to the
prophets, and to all the people whom
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away
captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
This is the text of the letter that Jeremiah the
prophet sent from Jerusalem to the
surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the
prophets, and all the others
Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your
prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you,
deceive you, neither
hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Do not be
deceived by the
prophets and diviners among you, and do not
listen to the dreams you
elicit from them.
Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;
Because you may say, “The LORD has raised up for us prophets in Babylon,”
Because they have not
hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the
prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.
I will do this because they have not
listened to My words, declares the LORD, which I sent to them again and again through My servants the
prophets. And neither have you exiles
listened, declares the LORD.”
The LORD hath made thee priest in the
stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is
mad, and maketh himself a
prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
‘The LORD has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada, to be the chief officer in the house of the LORD, responsible for any
madman who acts like a
prophet—you must put him in stocks and neck irons.
Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?
So now, why have you not
rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who poses as a
prophet among you?
And
Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the
prophet.
(
Zephaniah the priest, however, had read this letter to Jeremiah the
prophet.)
For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house.
At that time the army of the king of Babylon was
besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the
prophet was imprisoned in the
courtyard of the guard, which was in the palace of the king of Judah.
Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to
provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their
prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
because of all the evil the children of Israel and of Judah have done to
provoke Me to anger—they, their kings, their officials, their priests and
prophets, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.
Then Jeremiah the
prophet spake all these words unto
Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,
In Jerusalem, then, Jeremiah the
prophet relayed all these words to
Zedekiah king of Judah
I have sent also unto you all my servants the
prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the
prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
And
Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the
prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD’S house.
So
Baruch son of Neriah did everything that Jeremiah the
prophet had commanded him. In the house of the LORD he read the words of the LORD from the
scroll.
But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the
prophet: but the LORD
hid them.
Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to seize
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the
prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did
hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the
prophet Jeremiah.
But he and his officers and the people of the land refused to obey the words that the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.
And
Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and
Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the
prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.
Yet King
Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and
Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the
prophet with the message, “Please pray to the LORD our God for us!”
Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet:
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
But when he reached the Gate of Benjamin, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, seized him and said, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”
Where are now your
prophets which
prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
Where are your
prophets who
prophesied to you, claiming, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you or this land’?
My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the
prophet, whom they have cast into the
dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
“My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the
prophet. They have dropped him into the
cistern, where he will
starve to death, for there is no more bread in the city.”
Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the
prophet out of the
dungeon, before he die.
So the king commanded Ebed-melech the
Cushite, “Take thirty men from here with you and pull Jeremiah the
prophet out of the
cistern before he dies.”
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the
prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
Then King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the
prophet and received him at the third entrance to the house of the LORD. “I am going to ask you something,” said the king to Jeremiah. “Do not hide anything from me.”
And said unto Jeremiah the
prophet, Let, we
beseech thee, our
supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this
remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
Jeremiah the
prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire
remnant. For few of us remain of the many, as you can see with your own eyes.
Then Jeremiah the
prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that
whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
“I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the
prophet. “I will surely pray to the LORD your God as you request, and I will tell you everything that the LORD answers; I will not
withhold a word from you.”
Even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the
prophet, and
Baruch the son of Neriah.
the men, the women, the children, the king’s daughters, and
everyone whom Nebuzaradan captain of the guard had allowed to remain with Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, as well as Jeremiah the
prophet and
Baruch son of Neriah.
Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the
prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this
abominable thing that I
hate.
Yet I sent you all My servants the
prophets again and again, saying: ‘Do not do this
detestable thing that I
hate.’
The word that Jeremiah the
prophet spake unto
Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, saying,
This is the word that Jeremiah the
prophet spoke to
Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a
scroll at the
dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah, king of Judah:
The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;
This is the word of the LORD about the nations—the word that came to Jeremiah the prophet
The word that the LORD spake to Jeremiah the
prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and
smite the land of Egypt.
This is the word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the
prophet about the coming of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the
prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh
smote Gaza.
This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the
prophet about the Philistines before Pharaoh struck down
Gaza.
The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the
prophet against
Elam in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,
This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the
prophet concerning
Elam at the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah.
The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.
This is the word that the LORD spoke through Jeremiah the prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Chaldeans:
A sword is upon the liars; and they shall
dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.
A sword is against her false prophets, and they will become fools. A sword is against her warriors, and they will be filled with terror.
The word which Jeremiah the
prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with
Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.
This is the message that Jeremiah the
prophet gave to the
quartermaster Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with King
Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of
Zedekiah’s reign.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and
shattered their bars. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and even her
prophets find no vision from the LORD.
Thy
prophets have seen vain and
foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of
banishment.
The visions of your
prophets were empty and
deceptive; they did not
expose your guilt to ward off your captivity. The burdens they envisioned for you were empty and misleading.
Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Look, O LORD, and consider: Whom have You ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the infants they have
nurtured? Should priests and
prophets be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?
For the sins of her
prophets, and the
iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
But this was for the sins of her prophets and the guilt of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in her midst.
And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear, (for they are a
rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a
prophet among them.
And whether they
listen or refuse to
listen—for they are a
rebellious house—they will know that a
prophet has been among them.
Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.
Disaster upon
disaster will come, and
rumor after
rumor. Then they will seek a vision from a
prophet, but instruction from the priests will perish, as will counsel from the elders.
Son of man,
prophesy against the
prophets of Israel that
prophesy, and say thou unto them that
prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
“Son of man,
prophesy against the
prophets of Israel who are now
prophesying. Tell those who
prophesy out of their own imagination: Hear the word of the LORD!
Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe unto the
foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!
This is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the
foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, yet have seen nothing.
O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts.
Your prophets, O Israel, are like foxes among the ruins.
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
To wit, the
prophets of Israel which
prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.
those
prophets of Israel who
prophesied to Jerusalem and saw a vision of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Lord GOD.’
Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Therefore speak to them and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When any
Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked
stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the
prophet, I the LORD will answer him according to his great
idolatry,
For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a
prophet to
enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
For when any
Israelite or any foreigner dwelling in Israel separates himself from Me, sets up idols in his heart, and puts a wicked
stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the
prophet to inquire of Me, I the LORD will answer him Myself.
And if the
prophet be
deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have
deceived that
prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
But if the
prophet is
enticed to speak a message, then it was I the LORD who
enticed him, and I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;
They will bear their punishment—the punishment of the inquirer will be the same as that of the prophet—
There is a
conspiracy of her
prophets in the midst thereof, like a
roaring lion
ravening the prey; they have
devoured souls; they have taken the
treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof.
The
conspiracy of the princes in her midst is like a
roaring lion
tearing its prey. They
devour the people, seize the treasures and precious things, and multiply the widows within her.
And her
prophets have
daubed them with untempered
morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.
Her
prophets whitewash these deeds by false visions and lying divinations, saying, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ when the LORD has not spoken.
And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
So when it comes to pass—and surely it will come—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the
prophets of Israel, which
prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
This is what the Lord GOD says: Are you the one of whom I have spoken in former days through My servants, the
prophets of Israel, who in those times
prophesied for years that I would bring you against them?
In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years,
whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the
prophet, that he would
accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the sacred books, according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the
prophet, that the
desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.
Neither have we
hearkened unto thy servants the
prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
We have not
listened to Your servants the
prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, and fathers, and to all the people of the land.
Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God to walk in His laws, which He set before us through His servants the prophets.
Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
You will
stumble by day, and the
prophet will
stumble with you by night; so I will destroy your mother—
Therefore have I
hewed them by the
prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
Therefore I have
hewn them by the
prophets; I have slain them by the words of My mouth, and My judgments go forth like
lightning.
The days of
visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the
prophet is a
fool, the spiritual man is
mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
The days of punishment have come; the days of
retribution have arrived— let Israel know it. The
prophet is called a
fool, and the inspired man
insane, because of the greatness of your iniquity and hostility.
The
watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the
prophet is a
snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
The
prophet is Ephraim’s
watchman, along with my God, yet the
snare of the fowler lies on all his paths. Hostility is in the house of his God!
I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
I spoke through the prophets and multiplied their visions; I gave parables through the prophets.
And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
But by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
And I raised up of your sons for
prophets, and of your young men for
Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD.
I raised up prophets from your sons and Nazirites from your young men. Is this not true, O children of Israel?” declares the LORD.
But ye gave the
Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the
prophets, saying,
Prophesy not.
“But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the
prophets not to
prophesy.
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without
revealing His plan to His servants the
prophets.
Then answered
Amos, and said to
Amaziah, I was no
prophet, neither was I a
prophet’s son; but I was an
herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
“I was not a
prophet,”
Amos replied, “nor was I the son of a
prophet; rather, I was a
herdsman and a tender of
sycamore-fig trees.
If a man walking in the spirit and
falsehood do lie, saying, I will
prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the
prophet of this people.
If a man of wind were to come and say falsely, “I will
preach to you of wine and strong drink,” he would be just the preacher for this people!
Thus saith the LORD concerning the
prophets that make my people
err, that
bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.
This is what the LORD says: “As for the
prophets who lead My people
astray, who
proclaim peace while they
chew with their teeth, but declare war against one who puts nothing in their mouths:
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Therefore night will come over you without visions, and darkness without
divination. The sun will set on these
prophets, and the
daylight will turn black over them.
The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for
hire, and the
prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they
lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.
Her leaders judge for a
bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her
prophets practice
divination for money. Yet they
lean upon the LORD, saying, “Is not the LORD among us? No
disaster can come upon us.”
The burden which
Habakkuk the
prophet did see.
This is the burden that
Habakkuk the
prophet received in a vision:
A prayer of
Habakkuk the
