punish your daughters when they commit
whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit
adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that
doth not understand shall fall.
I will not
punish your daughters when they
prostitute themselves, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit
adultery. For the men themselves go off with prostitutes and offer sacrifices with
shrine prostitutes. So a people without understanding will come to
ruin.

If
thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have
stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

ruined— would they not
steal only what they wanted? If
grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings?

lament with a
doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly

taunt you with this bitter
lamentation: ‘We are utterly

You expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. And what you brought home, I
blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in
ruins, while each of you is
busy with his own house.

Edom saith, We are
