scribes;
Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder.
And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the royal
scribe and the high priest would go up, count the money brought into the house of the LORD, and
tie it up in bags.
And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah the son of
Asaph the recorder.
Then they called for the king; and Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace
administrator, Shebnah the
scribe, and Joah son of
Asaph the recorder, went out to them.
Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah the son of
Asaph the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of
Rab-shakeh.
Then Hilkiah’s son Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and
Asaph’s son Joah the recorder came to
Hezekiah with their clothes
torn, and they relayed to him the words of the
Rabshakeh.
And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with
sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing
sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
And it came to pass in the
eighteenth year of king
Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the
scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,
Now in the
eighteenth year of his reign, King
Josiah sent the
scribe, Shaphan son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the LORD, saying,
And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan, who read it.
And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
And Shaphan the scribe went to the king and reported, “Your servants have paid out the money that was found in the temple and have put it into the hands of the workers and supervisors of the house of the LORD.”
And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
Moreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.
And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the
scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
and commanded Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah the servant of the king:
And out of the city he took an officer that was set over the men of war, and five men of them that were in the king’s presence, which were found in the city, and the principal
scribe of the host, which
mustered the people of the land, and
threescore men of the people of the land that were found in the city:
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as five royal advisors. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
And the families of the
scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the
Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.
Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-
joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites, and the clans of the
scribes who lived at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the
Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and
Zadok the priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for
Eleazar, and one taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers:
Zadok the priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—one family being taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
Also
Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a
scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:
David’s uncle
Jonathan was a
counselor; he was a man of insight and a
scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended to the sons of the king.
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
Uzziah had an army ready for battle that went out to war by assigned divisions, as recorded by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the royal officers.
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were
scribes, and officers, and
porters.
were over the laborers and
supervised all who did the work, task by task. Some of the Levites were
secretaries, officers, and gatekeepers.
And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
And Hilkiah said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan.
Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
Moreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.
And the king commanded Hilkiah, and
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of
Micah, and Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
and commanded Hilkiah,
Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of
Micah, Shaphan the
scribe, and Asaiah the servant of the king:
Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the
scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to
Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
Rehum the commander and Shimshai the
scribe wrote the letter against Jerusalem to King
Artaxerxes as follows:
Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,
From Rehum the commander, Shimshai the
scribe, and the rest of their associates—the judges and officials over Tripolis, Persia, Erech and Babylon, the Elamites of
Susa,
Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.
Then the king sent this reply: To Rehum the commander, Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of your associates living in Samaria and elsewhere in the region west of the Euphrates: Greetings.
Now when the copy of king
Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the
scribe, and their companions, they went up in
haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
When the text of the letter from King
Artaxerxes was read to Rehum, Shimshai the
scribe, and their associates, they went immediately to the Jews in Jerusalem and
forcibly stopped them.
This
Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready
scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.
this
Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a
scribe skilled in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted
Ezra all his requests, for the hand of the LORD his God was upon him.
Now this is the copy of the letter that the king
Artaxerxes gave unto
Ezra the priest, the
scribe, even a
scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
This is the text of the letter King
Artaxerxes had given to
Ezra the priest and
scribe, an
expert in the commandments and statutes of the LORD to Israel:
Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto
Ezra the priest, a
scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.
Artaxerxes, king of kings. To
Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the Law of the God of heaven: Greetings.
And I, even I
Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that
whatsoever Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
I, King
Artaxerxes, decree to all the treasurers west of the Euphrates: Whatever
Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the Law of the God of heaven, may require of you, it must be provided
promptly,
And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto
Ezra the
scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
At that time all the people gathered together in the square before the Water Gate, and they asked
Ezra the
scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel.
And
Ezra the
scribe stood upon a
pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana,
Zechariah, and Meshullam.
Ezra the
scribe stood on a high wooden platform built for this occasion. At his right side stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, and at his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum,
Hash-baddanah,
Zechariah, and Meshullam.
And
Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and
Ezra the priest the
scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God;
mourn not, nor
weep. For all the people
wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Nehemiah the governor,
Ezra the priest and
scribe, and the Levites who were
instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not
mourn or
weep.” For all the people were
weeping as they heard the words of the Law.
And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto
Ezra the
scribe, even to understand the words of the law.
On the second day of the month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and Levites, gathered around
Ezra the
scribe to study the words of the Law.
These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of
Nehemiah the governor, and of
Ezra the priest, the
scribe.
They served in the days of Joiakim son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of
Nehemiah the governor and
Ezra the priest and
scribe.
And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and
Ezra the
scribe before them.
and his associates—Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani—with the musical instruments prescribed by David the man of God.
Ezra the
scribe led the
procession.
And I made treasurers over the
treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and
Zadok the
scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
I appointed as treasurers over the storerooms Shelemiah the priest,
Zadok the
scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, with Hanan son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, to assist them, because they were considered
trustworthy. They were responsible for distributing the supplies to their fellow Levites.
Then were the king’s
scribes called on the
thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that
Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king
Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.
On the
thirteenth day of the first month, the royal
scribes were summoned and the order was written exactly as
Haman commanded the royal satraps, the governors of each province, and the officials of each people, in the
script of each province and the language of every people. It was written in the name of King
Xerxes and sealed with the royal
signet ring.
Then were the king’s
scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month
Sivan, on the three and
twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that
Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the
deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto
Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
At once the royal
scribes were summoned, and on the twenty-third day of the third month (the month of
Sivan), they recorded all of
Mordecai’s orders to the Jews and to the satraps, governors, and princes of the 127 provinces from India to
Cush—writing to each province in its own
script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own
script and language.
Thine heart shall
meditate terror. Where is the
scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
Your mind will
ponder the former terror: “Where is he who
tallies? Where is he who weighs? Where is he who counts the towers?”
Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, which was over the house, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah,
Asaph’s son, the recorder.
Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and Joah son of
Asaph the recorder, went out to him.
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah, the son of
Asaph, the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of
Rabshakeh.
Then Hilkiah’s son Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and
Asaph’s son Joah the recorder came to
Hezekiah with their clothes
torn, and they relayed to him the words of the
Rabshakeh.
And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with
sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing
sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the
scribes is in vain.
How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us,’ when in fact the lying pen of the
scribes has produced a
deception?
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.
From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the hearing of all the people.
Then he went down into the king’s house, into the
scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the
scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and
Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
he went down to the
scribe’s chamber in the king’s palace, where all the officials were sitting: Elishama the
scribe, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan,
Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials.
And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
So the officials went to the king in the
courtyard. And having stored the
scroll in the chamber of Elishama the
scribe, they reported everything to the king.
So the king sent Jehudi to
fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the
scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
Then the king sent Jehudi to get the
scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the
scribe. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and all the officials who were standing beside him.
And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the
penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the
hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the
hearth.
And as soon as Jehudi had read three or four columns,
Jehoiakim would cut them off with a
scribe’s knife and throw them into the
firepot, until the entire
scroll had been consumed by the fire.
But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD
hid them.
Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to seize
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to
Baruch the
scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which
Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
Then Jeremiah took another
scroll and gave it to the
scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and at Jeremiah’s
dictation he wrote on it all the words of the
scroll that
Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.
Wherefore the princes were
wroth with Jeremiah, and
smote him, and put him in prison in the house of
Jonathan the
scribe: for they had made that the prison.
The officials were
angry with Jeremiah, and they beat him and placed him in
jail in the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, for it had been made into a prison.
Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my
supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, lest I die there.
But now please
listen, O my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, or I will die there.”
He took also out of the city an
eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of them that were near the king’s person, which were found in the city; and the principal
scribe of the host, who
mustered the people of the land; and
threescore men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city.
Of those still in the city, he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as seven trusted royal advisers. He also took the
scribe of the captain of the army, who had
enlisted the people of the land, and sixty men who were found in the city.
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they
flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Your guards are like the
swarming locust, and your
scribes like clouds of locusts that settle on the walls on a cold day. When the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and
scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And when he had assembled all the chief priests and
scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the
scribes and
Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the
scribes and
Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the
scribes.
because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their
scribes.
And a certain
scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee
whithersoever thou goest.
And one of the
scribes came to Him and said, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
And, behold, certain of the
scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
Then certain of the
scribes and of the
Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Then some of the
scribes and
Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”
Then said he unto them, Therefore every
scribe which is
instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his
treasure things new and old.
Then He told them, “For this reason, every
scribe who has been discipled in the kingdom of heaven is like a homeowner who brings out of his
storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
From that time forth began Jesus to
shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
From that time on Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and
scribes, and that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the
scribes that Elias must first come?
The disciples asked Him, “Why then do the
scribes say that
Elijah must come first?”
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be
betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the
scribes, and they shall
condemn him to death,
“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and
scribes. They will
condemn Him to death
And when the chief priests and
scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying,
Hosanna to the Son of David; they were
sore displeased,
But the chief priests and
scribes were
indignant when they saw the wonders He performed and the children
shouting in the temple courts, “
Hosanna to the Son of David!”
But
woe unto you,
scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in
yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You
yourselves do not enter, nor will you let in those who wish to enter.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You
traverse land and sea to
win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of
hell as you are.
Woe unto you,
scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay
tithe of
mint and
anise and
cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You pay
tithes of
mint,
dill, and
cumin. But you have disregarded the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Woe unto you,
scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited
sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
Woe to you,
scribes and
Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like
whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of impurity.
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and
scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and
crucify; and some of them shall ye
scourge in your synagogues, and
persecute them from city to city:
Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and
crucify, and others you will
flog in your synagogues and
persecute in town after town.
Then assembled together the chief priests, and the
scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called
Caiaphas,
At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the
courtyard of the high priest, whose name was
Caiaphas,
And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to
Caiaphas the high priest, where the
scribes and the elders were assembled.
Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to the house of
Caiaphas the high priest, where the
scribes and elders had gathered.
Likewise also the chief priests
mocking him, with the
scribes and elders, said,
In the same way, the chief priests,
scribes, and elders
mocked Him, saying,
And they were
astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the
scribes.
The people were
astonished at His teaching, because He taught as one who had authority, and not as the
scribes.
But there were certain of the
scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
But some of the
scribes were sitting there and thinking in their hearts,
And when the
scribes and
Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
When the
scribes who were
Pharisees saw Jesus eating with these people, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
And the
scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath
Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
And the
scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”
Then came together unto him the
Pharisees, and certain of the
scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
Then the
Pharisees and some of the
scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus,
Then the
Pharisees and
scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with
unwashen hands?
So the
Pharisees and
scribes questioned Jesus: “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders? Instead, they eat with
defiled hands.”
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and
scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Then He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and
scribes, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again.
And they asked him, saying, Why say the
scribes that Elias must first come?
And they asked Jesus, “Why do the
scribes say that
Elijah must come first?”
And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the
scribes questioning with them.
When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and
scribes arguing with them.
And he asked the
scribes, What question ye with them?
“What are you disputing with them?” He asked.
Saying,Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the
scribes; and they shall
condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and
scribes. They will
condemn Him to death and will deliver Him over to the Gentiles,
And the
scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was
astonished at his doctrine.
When the chief priests and
scribes heard this, they looked for a way to kill Him. For they were afraid of Him, because the whole crowd was
astonished at His teaching.
And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the
scribes, and the elders,
After their return to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking in the temple courts, and the chief priests,
