Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of
Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of
Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and
Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD
hid them.
Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a son of the king, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and
Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to seize
Baruch the
scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
And
Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of
Shelemiah and
Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.
Yet King
Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of
Shelemiah and
Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet with the message, “Please pray to the LORD our God for us!”
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
But when he reached the Gate of Benjamin, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, seized him and said, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”
Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
Now Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchijah heard that Jeremiah had been telling all the people:
But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word that the LORD has shown me:
That there came certain from
Shechem, from
Shiloh, and from Samaria, even
fourscore men, having their beards
shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.
eighty men who had
shaved off their beards,
torn their garments, and cut themselves came from
Shechem,
Shiloh, and Samaria, carrying grain offerings and
frankincense for the house of the LORD.
That the LORD thy God may
shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.
Pray that the LORD your God will tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do.”
And I will
shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
And I will show you
compassion, and he will have
compassion on you and restore you to your own land.’
And I will
kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away
captives: and he shall
array himself with the land of Egypt, as a
shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace.
I will
kindle a fire in the temples of the gods of Egypt, and
Nebuchadnezzar will burn those temples and take their gods as
captives. So he will
wrap himself with the land of Egypt as a
shepherd wraps himself in his garment, and he will depart from there unscathed.
He shall break also the images of Beth-shemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.
He will
demolish the sacred pillars of the temple of the sun in the land of Egypt, and he will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.’”
The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
The Daughter of Egypt will be put to shame; she will be delivered into the hands of the people of the north.”
O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be
ere thou be quiet? put up
thyself into thy
scabbard, rest, and be still.
‘
Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your
sheath; cease and be still!’
Give wings unto Moab, that it may
flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be
desolate, without any to dwell therein.
Put salt on Moab, for
she will be laid waste; her cities will become
desolate, with no one to dwell in them.
From the cry of
Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an
heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be
desolate.
There is a cry from
Heshbon to Elealeh; they raise their voices to Jahaz, from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-
shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim have dried up.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the
habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Edom from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to
flee, and fear hath seized on her:
anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in
travail.
Damascus has become feeble;
she has turned to
flee.
Panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her like a woman in labor.
My people hath been lost
sheep: their
shepherds have caused them to go
astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.
My people are lost
sheep; their
shepherds have led them
astray, causing them to
roam the mountains. They have
wandered from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in
array against her; from thence
she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain.
For behold, I
stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north
she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.
Your mother shall be
sore confounded;
she that bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
your mother will be greatly
ashamed;
she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold,
she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly
desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be
astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.
Because of the wrath of the LORD,
she will not be inhabited;
she will become completely
desolate. All who pass through Babylon will be
horrified and will hiss at all her wounds.
Put
yourselves in
array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her,
spare no arrows: for
she hath
sinned against the LORD.
Line up in formation around Babylon, all you who draw the bow! Shoot at her!
Spare no arrows! For
she has
sinned against the LORD.
Shout against her round about:
she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the
vengeance of the LORD: take
vengeance upon her; as
she hath done, do unto her.
Raise a war cry against her on every side!
She has thrown up her hands in surrender; her towers have fallen; her walls are
torn down. Since this is the
vengeance of the LORD, take out your
vengeance upon her; as
she has done, do the same to her.
Israel is a scattered
sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath
devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
Israel is a scattered flock,
chased away by lions. The first to
devour him was the king of Assyria; the last to
crush his bones was
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.”
Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape:
recompense her according to her work; according to all that
she hath done, do unto her: for
she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
Summon the archers against Babylon, all who string the bow.
Encamp all around her; let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds; do to her as
she has done. For
she has
defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
They shall hold the bow and the
lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall
roar like the sea, and they shall
ride upon horses, every one put in
array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
They
grasp the bow and
spear; they are cruel and
merciless. Their voice roars like the sea, and they
ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation against you, O Daughter of Babylon.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the
habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Babylon from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S
vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.
Flee from Babylon! Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s
vengeance; He will pay her what
she deserves.
Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed:
howl for her; take
balm for her pain, if so
she may be
healed.
Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been
shattered.
Wail for her; get her
balm for her pain; perhaps
she can be
healed.
We would have
healed Babylon, but
she is not
healed:
forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the
skies.
“We tried to
heal Babylon, but
she could not be
healed.
Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
I will also break in pieces with thee the
shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the
husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.
One post shall run to meet another, and one
messenger to meet another, to
shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,
How is
Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an
astonishment among the nations!
How
Sheshach has been captured! The praise of all the earth has been seized. What a
horror Babylon has become among the nations!
The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.
The sea has come up over Babylon;
she is covered in
turbulent waves.
Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though
she should
fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.
Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty
stronghold, the destroyers I send will come against her,” declares the LORD.
Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of
Libnah.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah;
she was from
Libnah.
How
doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people how is
she become as a widow
she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is
she become tributary
How
lonely lies the city, once so full of people!
She who was great among the nations has become a widow. The princess of the provinces has become a slave.
She weepeth
sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers
she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt
treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
She weeps
aloud in the night, with tears upon her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no one to comfort her. All her friends have
betrayed her; they have become her enemies.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude:
she dwelleth among the heathen,
she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery;
she dwells among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
The ways of
Zion do
mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are
desolate: her priests
sigh, her virgins are
afflicted, and
she is in bitterness.
The roads to
Zion mourn, because no one comes to her appointed feasts. All her gates are deserted; her priests
groan, her maidens
grieve, and
she herself is bitter with
anguish.
Jerusalem remembered in the days of her
affliction and of her
miseries all her pleasant things that
she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the
adversaries saw her, and did
mock at her sabbaths.
In the days of her
affliction and wandering Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into enemy hands
she received no help. Her enemies looked upon her,
laughing at her
downfall.
Jerusalem hath
grievously sinned; therefore
she is removed: all that honoured her
despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:
yea,
she sigheth, and turneth backward.
Jerusalem has
sinned greatly; therefore
she has become an object of
scorn. All who honored her now
despise her, for they have seen her nakedness;
she herself groans and turns away.
Her
filthiness is in her skirts;
she remembereth not her last end; therefore
she came down wonderfully:
she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my
affliction: for the enemy hath
magnified himself.
Her uncleanness stains her skirts;
she did not consider her end. Her
downfall was
astounding; there was no one to comfort her. Look, O LORD, on my
affliction, for the enemy has triumphed!
The
adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for
she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou
didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
The
adversary has seized all her treasures. For
she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary— those You had forbidden to enter Your assembly.
For the sins of her prophets, and the
iniquities of her priests, that have
shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,
But this was for the sins of her prophets and the guilt of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in her midst.
And thy meat which thou shalt eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day: from time to time shalt thou eat it.
You are to
weigh out twenty
shekels of food to eat each day, and you are to eat it at set times.
And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.
But she has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against My statutes worse than the countries around her. For her people have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.’
Then I spake unto them of the captivity all the things that the LORD had shewed me.
I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
And I will judge thee, as women that break
wedlock and
shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in
fury and jealousy.
And I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit
adultery and those who
shed blood; so I will bring upon you the wrath of your
bloodshed and jealousy.
And thine elder sister is Samaria,
she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is
Sodom and her daughters.
Your older sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters to your north; and your younger sister was
Sodom, who lived with her daughters to your south.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD,
Sodom thy sister hath not done,
she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, your sister
Sodom and her daughters never did as you and your daughters have done.
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister
Sodom, pride,
fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did
she strengthen the hand of the poor and
needy.
Now this was the iniquity of your sister
Sodom:
She and her daughters were
arrogant, overfed, and
complacent; they did not help the poor and
needy.
In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly
cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
I will plant it on the mountain heights of Israel so that it will bear branches; it will yield fruit and become a
majestic cedar. Birds of every kind will nest under it, taking
shelter in the shade of its branches.
If he
beget a son that is a
robber, a
shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
Now suppose that man has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these things,
And say, What is thy mother? A
lioness:
she lay down among lions,
she nourished her whelps among young lions.
and say: ‘What was your mother? A
lioness among the lions!
She lay down among the young lions;
she reared her cubs.
And
she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it
devoured men.
She brought up one of her cubs, and he became a young lion. After learning to
tear his prey, he
devoured men.
Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.
When she saw that she had waited in vain, that her hope was lost, she took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.
Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.
Your mother was like a vine in your
vineyard, planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of the abundant waters.
And
she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her
stature was
exalted among the thick branches, and
she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.
It had strong branches, fit for a ruler’s
scepter. It towered high above the thick branches, conspicuous for its height and for its dense foliage.
But
she was
plucked up in
fury,
she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and
withered; the fire consumed them.
But it was uprooted in
fury, cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong branches were
stripped off and they
withered; the fire consumed them.
And now
she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and
thirsty ground.
Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and
thirsty land.
And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath
devoured her fruit, so that
she hath no strong rod to be a
sceptre to rule. This is a
lamentation, and shall be for a
lamentation.
Fire has gone out from its main branch and
devoured its fruit; on it no strong branch remains fit for a ruler’s
scepter.’ This is a
lament and shall be used as a
lament.”
And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.
And I gave them My statutes and made known to them My ordinances—for the man who does these things will live by them.
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
and tell her that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.
Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his
sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:
Because I will cut off both the righteous and the wicked, My sword will be
unsheathed against
everyone from south to north.
That all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of his
sheath: it shall not return any more.
Then all flesh will know that I, the LORD, have taken My sword from its
sheath, not to return it again.’
Shall I cause it to return into his
sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou
wast created, in the land of thy
nativity.
Return the sword to its
sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
Now, thou son of man,
wilt thou judge,
wilt thou judge the
bloody city?
yea, thou shalt
shew her all her abominations.
“As for you, son of man, will you judge her? Will you pass judgment on the city of
bloodshed? Then
confront her with all her abominations
Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city
sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to
defile herself.
and tell her that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘O city who brings her own
doom by
shedding blood within her walls and making idols to
defile herself,
Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast
shed; and hast
defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a
mocking to all countries.
you are guilty of the blood you have
shed, and you are
defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a
mockery to all the lands.
Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood.
See how every prince of Israel within you has used his power to shed blood.
In thee are men that carry tales to
shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit
lewdness.
In thee have they taken gifts to
shed blood; thou hast taken
usury and increase, and thou hast
greedily gained of thy neighbours by
extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.
In you they take bribes to
shed blood. You
engage in
usury, take excess interest, and
extort your neighbors. But Me you have forgotten, declares the Lord GOD.
Behold, therefore I have
smitten mine hand at thy
dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee.
Now look, I strike My hands together against your unjust gain and against the blood you have shed in your midst.
Her priests have
violated my law, and have
profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and
profane, neither have they
shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have
hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am
profaned among them.
Her priests do violence to My law and
profane My holy things. They make no distinction between the holy and the common, and they fail to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. They disregard My Sabbaths, so that I am
profaned among them.
Her princes in the midst thereof are like
wolves ravening the prey, to
shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get
dishonest gain.
And Aholah played the
harlot when
she was mine; and
she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,
Oholah
prostituted herself while
she was still Mine.
She lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians—warriors
Thus
she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom
she doted: with all their idols
she defiled herself.
She offered sexual favors to all the
elite of Assyria.
She defiled herself with all the idols of those for whom
she lusted.
Neither left
she her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they lay with her, and they
bruised the breasts of her
virginity, and poured their
whoredom upon her.
Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom
she doted.
Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, the Assyrians for whom
she lusted.
These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters, and
slew her with the sword: and
she became famous among women; for they had executed judgment upon her.
They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and put her to the sword. Thus
she became a
byword among women, and they executed judgment against her.
And when her sister
Aholibah saw this,
she was more corrupt in her
inordinate love than
she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms.
She doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most
gorgeously,
horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men.
She too
lusted after the Assyrians—governors and commanders, warriors dressed in
splendor,
horsemen riding on steeds, all desirable young men.
Then I saw that
she was
defiled, that they took both one way,
And I saw that
she too had
defiled herself; both of them had taken the same path.
And that
she increased her whoredoms: for when
she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with
vermilion,
And as soon as
she saw them with her eyes,
she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into
Chaldea.
At the sight of them,
she lusted for them and sent messengers to them in
Chaldea.
And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they
defiled her with their
whoredom, and
she was
polluted with them, and her mind was
alienated from them.
Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their
lust they
defiled her. But after
she had been
defiled by them,
she turned away in
disgust.
So
she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was
alienated from her, like as my mind was
alienated from her sister.
When Oholibah openly
prostituted herself and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in
disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister.
Yet
she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to
remembrance the days of her youth, wherein
she had played the
harlot in the land of Egypt.
Yet
she multiplied her
promiscuity, remembering the days of her youth, when
she had
prostituted herself in the land of Egypt
For
she doted upon their
paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of
asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
Thou shalt even drink it and
suck it out, and thou shalt break the
sherds thereof, and
pluck off thine own breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
You will drink it and
drain it; you will
dash it to pieces, and
tear your breasts. For I have spoken,’ declares the Lord GOD.
Then said I unto her that was old in
adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and
she with them?
Then I said of her who had grown old in
adulteries: ‘Now let them use her as a
prostitute, for that is all
she is!’
And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.
But righteous men will sentence them to the punishment of those who commit
adultery and
bloodshed, because they are adulteresses with blood on their hands.
For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;
For the blood she shed is still within her; she poured it out on the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.
She hath
wearied herself with lies, and her great
scum went not forth out of her: her
scum shall be in the fire.
It has
frustrated every effort; its thick
rust has not been removed, even by the fire.
And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the
Ammonites a couchingplace for flocks: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels, and
Ammon a resting place for
sheep. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem,
Aha,
she is broken that was the gates of the people:
she is turned unto me: I shall be
replenished, now
she is laid waste:
“Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘
Aha! The gate to the nations is broken; it has
swung open to me; now that
she lies in ruins I will be filled,’
It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD: and it shall become a
spoil to the nations.
She will become a place to spread nets in the sea, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.
She will become
plunder for the nations,
And they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that
wast inhabited of
seafaring men, the
renowned city, which
wast strong in the sea,
she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that
haunt it!
Then they will
lament for you, saying, “How you have perished, O city of
renown inhabited by
seafaring men—
