If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you refuse to do what is right,
sin is
crouching at your door; it desires you, but you must master it.”
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name
Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of

Seth, saying, “God has granted me another seed in place of
Abel,
since Cain killed him.”

wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the

Eliezer of Damascus?”
And Sarai said unto
Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my
maid into thy
bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was
despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

since she saw that she was
pregnant, she has treated me with contempt. May the LORD judge between you and me.”

sinning against Me. That is why I did not let you touch her.
Then
Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I
offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great
sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

sinned against you, that you have brought such
tremendous guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done.”

since you have not
withheld your only son from me.”
And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath

And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for
Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.

since he thought to himself, “The men of this place will kill me on account of
Rebekah, because she is so beautiful.”

Wherefore
didst thou
flee away secretly, and
steal away from me; and
didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with
mirth, and with songs, with
tabret, and with
harp?
Why did you run away secretly and
deceive me, without even telling me? I would have sent you away with joy and
singing, with tambourines and harps.
And Jacob was
wroth, and
chode with
Laban: and Jacob answered and said to
Laban, What is my

sin of mine have you so hotly pursued me?
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the
sinew which
shrank, which is upon the hollow of the
thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s
thigh in the
sinew that
shrank.
Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the
tendon which is at the
socket of the
hip, because the
socket of Jacob’s
hip was struck near that
tendon.
And Jacob said,
Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou
wast pleased with me.

since you have received me
favorably.
And Jacob heard that he had
defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.

livestock in the field, he remained silent about it until they returned.

There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
No one in this house is greater than I am. He has

sin against God?”
And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

stalk, full and good:
In my dream I also saw seven heads of grain,
plump and ripe, growing on a
single stalk.
And the
plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very
grievous.
The abundance in the land will not be remembered, since the famine that follows it will be so severe.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph,
Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so
discreet and wise as thou art:
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “
Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one as
discerning and wise as you.
And the sons of Israel came to
buy corn among those that came: for the famine was in the land of
Canaan.
So the sons of Israel were among those who came to
buy grain,
since the famine had also spread to the land of
Canaan.
And
Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not
sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
And
Reuben responded, “Didn’t I tell you not to
sin against the boy? But you would not
listen. Now we must account for his blood!”
And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an
interpreter.
They did not
realize that Joseph understood them,
since there was an
interpreter between them.
And they made ready the present against Joseph came at
noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

noon.
And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an
abomination unto the Egyptians.
They separately served Joseph, his brothers, and the Egyptians. They
ate separately because the Egyptians would not eat with the Hebrews,
since that was
detestable to them.
And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is
torn in pieces; and I saw him not
since:
When one of them was gone, I said: “Surely he has been
torn to pieces.” And I have not seen him
since.
And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.
Then Israel said to Joseph, “Finally I can die, now that I have seen your face and know that you are still alive!”
That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of
Goshen; for every
shepherd is an
abomination unto the Egyptians.
you are to say, ‘Your servants have raised
livestock ever
since our youth—both we and our fathers.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the land of
Goshen,
since all
shepherds are
detestable to the Egyptians.”
They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to
sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is
sore in the land of
Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of
Goshen.
Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live in the land for a time, because there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants,
since the famine in the land of
Canaan has been severe. So now, please allow your servants to settle in the land of
Goshen.”
And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.
“Then bring me your
livestock,” said Joseph. “
Since the money is gone, I will sell you food in exchange for your
livestock.”
So shall ye say unto Joseph,
Forgive, I pray thee now, the
trespass of thy brethren, and their
sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee,
forgive the
trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph
wept when they spake unto him.
‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I
beg you, please
forgive the
transgression and
sin of your brothers, for they did you wrong.’ So now, Joseph, please
forgive the
transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph
wept.
And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not
eloquent, neither
heretofore, nor
since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
“Please, Lord,” Moses replied, “I have never been
eloquent, neither in the past nor
since You have spoken to Your servant, for I am slow of speech and tongue.”
And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will
slay thy son, even thy
firstborn.
and I told you to let My son go so that he may worship Me. But
since you have refused to let him go, behold, I will kill your
firstborn son!’”

Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and You have not delivered Your people in any way.”
And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not
hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of
uncircumcised lips?
But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “If the Israelites will not
listen to me, then why would Pharaoh
listen to me,
since I am unskilled in speech?”
And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of
uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh
hearken unto me?
But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “
Since I am unskilled in speech, why would Pharaoh
listen to me?”
Behold, to
morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very
grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt
since the foundation thereof even until now.
Behold, at this time
tomorrow I will rain down the worst
hail that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded until now.
So there was
hail, and fire mingled with the
hail, very
grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt
since it became a nation.
The
hail fell and the
lightning continued
flashing through it. The
hail was so severe that nothing like it had ever been seen in all the land of Egypt from the time it became a nation.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have
sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have
sinned,” he said. “The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
And the flax and the barley was
smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was
bolled.
(Now the flax and barley were destroyed,
since the barley was ripe and the flax was in
bloom;
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the
hail and the thunders were ceased, he
sinned yet more, and
hardened his heart, he and his servants.
And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.
They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’” Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
No, only the men may go and worship the LORD, since that is what you have been requesting.” And Moses and Aaron were driven from Pharaoh’s presence.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in
haste; and he said, I have
sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.
Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have
sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
Now therefore
forgive, I pray thee, my
sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.
Now please
forgive my
sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God, that He may remove this death from me.”
And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one
locust in all the coasts of Egypt.
And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind that carried off the locusts and
blew them into the Red Sea. Not a
single locust remained
anywhere in Egypt.
And they
baked unleavened cakes of the
dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not
leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not
tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any
victual.
Since their
dough had no
leaven, the people
baked what they had brought out of Egypt into
unleavened loaves. For when they had been driven out of Egypt, they could not delay and had not prepared any provisions for themselves.
Then
sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will
sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Then Moses and the Israelites
sang this song to the LORD: “I will
sing to the LORD, for He is highly
exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.
And
Miriam answered them,
Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
And
Miriam sang back to them: “
Sing to the LORD, for He is highly
exalted; the horse and rider He has thrown into the sea.”
And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of
Sin, which is between Elim and
Sinai, on the
fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
On the
fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt, the whole congregation of Israel set out from Elim and came to the Desert of
Sin, which is between Elim and
Sinai.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of
Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in
Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of
Sin, moving from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.
In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of
Sinai.
In the third month, on the same day of the month that the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they came to the Wilderness of
Sinai.
For they were departed from
Rephidim, and were come to the desert of
Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
After they had set out from
Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of
Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain.
And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount
Sinai.
and be prepared by the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount
Sinai in the sight of all the people.
And mount
Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount
quaked greatly.
Mount
Sinai was completely
enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had descended on it in fire. And the smoke rose like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain
quaked violently.
And the LORD came down upon mount
Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
The LORD descended to the top of Mount
Sinai and called Moses to the summit. So Moses went up,
And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount
Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and
sanctify it.
But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up Mount
Sinai, for You solemnly
warned us, ‘Put a boundary around the mountain and set it apart as holy.’”
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
“Do not be afraid,” Moses replied. “For God has come to test you, so that the fear of Him may be before you, to keep you from
sinning.”
If she please not her master, who hath
betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt
deceitfully with her.
If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who had designated her for himself, he must allow her to be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, since he has broken faith with her.
Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
However, if the servant gets up after a day or two, the owner shall not be punished, since the servant is his property.
Also thou shalt not
oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Do not
oppress a foreign resident,
since you
yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
Beware of him, and obey his voice,
provoke him not; for he will not
pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.
Pay attention to him and
listen to his voice; do not
defy him, for he will not
forgive rebellion,
since My Name is in him.
I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become
desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
I will not drive them out before you in a
single year; otherwise the land would become
desolate and wild animals would multiply against you.
They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee
sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a
snare unto thee.
They must not remain in your land, lest they cause you to
sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a
snare to you.”
And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount
Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.
and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount
Sinai. For six days the cloud covered it, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.
And they shall be coupled together beneath, and they shall be coupled together above the head of it unto one ring: thus shall it be for them both; they shall be for the two corners.
coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. These will serve as the two corners.
But the flesh of the
bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a
sin offering.
But burn the flesh of the bull and its hide and dung outside the camp; it is a sin offering.
Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the
rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the
caul above the liver, and the two
kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder; for it is a ram of
consecration:
Take the fat from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the
entrails, the
lobe of the liver, both
kidneys with the fat on them, and the right
thigh (
since this is a ram for
ordination),
And Aaron shall make an
atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the
sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make
atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the LORD.
Once a year Aaron shall make
atonement on the horns of the altar. Throughout your generations he shall make
atonement on it annually with the blood of the
sin offering of
atonement. The altar is most holy to the LORD.”
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount
Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
When the LORD had finished speaking with Moses on Mount
Sinai, He gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.
And he said, It is not the voice of them that
shout for
mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that
sing do I hear.
But Moses replied: “It is neither the cry of victory nor the cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing!”
And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?
“What did this people do to you,” Moses asked Aaron, “that you have led them into so great a sin?”
For Moses had said,
Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may
bestow upon you a blessing this day.
Afterward, Moses said, “
Today you have been ordained for service to the LORD,
since each man went against his son and his brother; so the LORD has bestowed a blessing on you this day.”
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have
sinned a great
sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD;
peradventure I shall make an
atonement for your
sin.
The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great
sin. Now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make
atonement for your
sin.”
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have
sinned a great
sin, and have made them gods of gold.
So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made gods of gold for themselves.
Yet now, if thou
wilt forgive their
sin—; and if not,
blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
Yet now, if You would only
forgive their
sin.... But if not, please
blot me out of the book that You have written.”
And the LORD said unto Moses,
Whosoever hath
sinned against me, him will I
blot out of my book.
The LORD replied to Moses, “
Whoever has
sinned against Me, I will
blot out of My book.
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
Now go, lead the people to the place I described. Behold, My angel shall go before you. But on the day I settle accounts, I will
punish them for their
sin.”
For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and
consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
For the LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I should go with you for a
single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your
jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.’”
And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount
Sinai, and present
thyself there to me in the top of the mount.
Be ready in the morning, and come up on Mount
Sinai to present
yourself before Me on the mountaintop.
And he
hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount
Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.
So Moses
chiseled out two stone tablets like the originals. He rose early in the morning, and taking the two stone tablets in his hands, he went up Mount
Sinai as the LORD had commanded him.
Keeping mercy for thousands,
forgiving iniquity and
transgression and
sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
maintaining loving devotion to a thousand generations,
forgiving iniquity,
transgression, and
sin. Yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished; He will visit the iniquity of the fathers on their children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”
And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and
pardon our iniquity and our
sin, and take us for thine inheritance.
“O Lord,” he said, “if I have indeed found favor in Your sight, my Lord, please go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people,
forgive our iniquity and
sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”
And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount
Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses
wist not that the skin of his face
shone while he talked with him.
And when Moses came down from Mount
Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was unaware that his face had become
radiant from speaking with the LORD.
And afterward all the children of Israel came
nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount
Sinai.
And after this all the Israelites came near, and Moses commanded them to do everything that the LORD had told him on Mount
Sinai.
For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.
since what they already had was more than enough to perform all the work.
And they were coupled beneath, and coupled together at the head thereof, to one ring: thus he did to both of them in both the corners.
coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. He made both corners in this way.
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:
“Tell the Israelites to do as follows with one who
sins unintentionally against any of the LORD’s commandments and does what is forbidden by them:
If the priest that is
anointed do
sin according to the
sin of the people; then let him bring for his
sin, which he hath
sinned, a young
bullock without
blemish unto the LORD for a
sin offering.
If the
anointed priest
sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the LORD a young bull without
blemish as a
sin offering for the
sin he has committed.
And he shall take off from it all the fat of the
bullock for the
sin offering; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
Then he shall remove all the fat from the bull of the
sin offering—the fat that covers the
entrails, all the fat that is on them,
And if the whole congregation of Israel
sin through ignorance, and the thing be
hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done, and are guilty;
Now if the whole congregation of Israel strays
unintentionally and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly so that they
violate any of the LORD’s commandments and
incur guilt by doing what is forbidden,
When the
sin, which they have
sinned against it, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young
bullock for the
sin, and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation.
when they become aware of the sin they have committed, then the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and present it before the Tent of Meeting.
