For since I spake, I
cried out, I
cried violence and
spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a
derision, daily.
For whenever I
speak, I cry out; I
proclaim violence and destruction. For the word of the LORD has become to me a reproach and
derision all day long.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor
speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was
weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
If I say, “I will not mention Him or
speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become
weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
This is what the LORD says: “Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and
proclaim this message there,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that
prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they
speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Do not
listen to the words of the prophets who
prophesy to you. They are filling you with false hopes. They
speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.
I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they
prophesied.
I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message; I did not
speak to them, yet they have
prophesied.
The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him
speak my word faithfully. What is the
chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.
Let the prophet who has a dream retell it, but let him who has My word speak it truthfully. For what is straw compared to grain?” declares the LORD.
From the
thirteenth year of
Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and
twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and
speaking; but ye have not
hearkened.
“From the
thirteenth year of
Josiah son of Amon king of Judah until this very day—twenty-three years—the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not
listened.
Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
“This is what the LORD says: Stand in the
courtyard of the house of the LORD and
speak all the words I have commanded you to
speak to all the cities of Judah who come to worship there. Do not
omit a word.
So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
Now the priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD,
Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
and as soon as he had finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say, the priests and prophets and all the people seized him,
shouting, “You must surely die!
But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to
speak all these words in your ears.
But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, upon this city, and upon its residents; for truly the LORD has sent me to
speak all these words in your hearing.”
Therefore
hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which
speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:
But as for you, do not
listen to your prophets, your diviners, your interpreters of dreams, your mediums, or your sorcerers who declare, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon.’
Therefore
hearken not unto the words of the prophets that
speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they
prophesy a lie unto you.
Do not
listen to the words of the prophets who say, ‘You must not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they are
prophesying to you a lie.
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people;
Nevertheless,
listen now to this message I am
speaking in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people.
Because they have committed
villany in Israel, and have committed
adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.
For they have committed an
outrage in Israel by
committing adultery with the wives of their neighbors and
speaking lies in My name, which I did not command them to do. I am He who knows, and I am a witness, declares the LORD.”
Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,
You are to tell Shemaiah the Nehelamite that
Thus
speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to
Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “In your own name you have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest
Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests. You said to
Zephaniah:
Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child? Though I often
speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity; The LORD
bless thee, O
habitation of justice, and mountain of
holiness.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore them from captivity, they will once again
speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities: ‘May the LORD
bless you, O righteous dwelling place, O holy mountain.’
And
Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall
speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hands of the Chaldeans, but he will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will
speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Go and
speak to
Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:
The LORD, the God of Israel, told Jeremiah to go and
speak to
Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him that this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
And you
yourself will not escape his
grasp, but will surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and
speak with him face to face; and you will go to Babylon.
Go unto the house of the
Rechabites, and
speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.
“Go to the house of the
Rechabites,
speak to them, and bring them to one of the chambers of the house of the LORD to offer them a drink of wine.”
The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and
speaking; but ye
hearkened not unto me.
The words of Jonadab son of Rechab have been carried out. He commanded his sons not to drink wine, and they have not
drunk it to this very day because they have obeyed the command of their
forefather. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you have not obeyed Me!
Therefore the princes said unto the king, We
beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in
speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the
welfare of this people, but the
hurt.
Then the officials said to the king, “This man ought to die, for he is discouraging the warriors who remain in this city, as well as all the people, by speaking such words to them; this man is not seeking the well-being of these people, but their ruin.”
But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I
beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I
speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
“They will not hand you over,” Jeremiah replied. “Obey the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, that it may go well with you and you may live.
Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
When all the officials came to Jeremiah and questioned him, he relayed to them the exact words the king had commanded him to say. So they said no more to him, for no one had overheard the conversation.
Go and
speak to Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee.
“Go and tell Ebed-melech the
Cushite that this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I am about to
fulfill My words against this city for
harm and not for good, and on that day they will be fulfilled before your eyes.
But Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou
speakest falsely of
Ishmael.
But Gedaliah son of
Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, “Do not do such a thing! What you are saying about
Ishmael is a lie.”
And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
When Jeremiah had finished telling all the people all the words of the LORD their God—everything that the LORD had sent him to say—
Then spake
Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou
speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to
sojourn there:
Azariah son of Hoshaiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and all the
arrogant men said to Jeremiah, “You are lying! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to reside there.’
For was not Israel a
derision unto thee? was he found among
thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.
Was not Israel your object of
ridicule? Was he ever found among
thieves? For whenever you
speak of him you
shake your head.
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
The appearance of the brilliant light all around Him was like that of a
rainbow in a cloud on a
rainy day. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell facedown and heard a voice
speaking.
And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.”
And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.
And as He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard Him speaking to me.
And thou shalt
speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear: for they are most
rebellious.
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “eat what you find here. Eat this
scroll, then go and
speak to the house of Israel.”
And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.
Then He said to me, “Son of man, go now to the house of Israel and speak My words to them.
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
“Son of man,” He added, “
listen carefully to all the words I
speak to you, and take them to heart.
And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and
speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will
forbear.
Go to your people, the exiles;
speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ whether they
listen or refuse to
listen.”
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor
speakest to
warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not
warn him or
speak out to
warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood.
And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee.
And there the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He said to me, “Get up, go out to the plain, and there I will speak with you.”
But when I
speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him
forbear: for they are a
rebellious house.
But when I
speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you are to tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’
Whoever listens, let him
listen; and
whoever refuses, let him refuse, for they are a
rebellious house.
And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the
Almighty God when he
speaketh.
The sound of the wings of the
cherubim could be heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of God
Almighty when He
speaks.
And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the LORD; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.
And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me and told me to declare that this is what the LORD says: “That is what you are thinking, O house of Israel; and I know the thoughts that arise in your minds.
For I am the LORD: I will
speak, and the word that I shall
speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O
rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.
because I, the LORD, will
speak whatever word I
speak, and it will be fulfilled without delay. For in your days, O
rebellious house, I will
speak a message and bring it to pass, declares the Lord GOD.’”
Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.
Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘None of My words will be delayed any longer. The message I speak will be fulfilled, declares the Lord GOD.’”
They have seen vanity and lying
divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would
confirm the word.
They see false visions and
speak lying divinations. They claim, ‘Thus declares the LORD,’ when the LORD did not send them; yet they wait for the
fulfillment of their message.
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Therefore
speak to them and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When any
Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked
stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him according to his great
idolatry,
And if the prophet be
deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have
deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
But if the prophet is
enticed to
speak a message, then it was I the LORD who
enticed him, and I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
Behold, every one that useth
proverbs shall use this
proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
Son of man, put forth a
riddle, and
speak a parable unto the house of Israel;
“Son of man,
pose a
riddle;
speak a parable to the house of Israel
Son of man,
speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to
enquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.
“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: Have you come to inquire of Me? As surely as I live, I will not be consulted by you, declares the Lord GOD.
Therefore, son of man,
speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have
blasphemed me, in that they have committed a
trespass against me.
Therefore, son of man,
speak to the house of Israel, and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: In this way also your fathers
blasphemed Me by their unfaithfulness against Me.
Then said I,
Ah Lord GOD! they say of me,
Doth he not
speak parables?
Then I said, “
Ah, Lord GOD, they are saying of me, ‘Is he not just telling parables?’”
And utter a parable unto the
rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:
Now
speak a parable to this
rebellious house and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Put the pot on the fire; put it on and pour in the water.
Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will
profane my sanctuary, the
excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.
Tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I am about to
desecrate My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and the delight of your soul. And the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.’
In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt
speak, and be no more
dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
On that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped; you will
speak and no longer be
mute. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the LORD.”
Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great
dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.
Speak to him and tell him that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt, O great
monster who lies among his rivers, who says, ‘The Nile is mine; I made it myself.’
In that day will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to
bud forth, and I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
In that day I will cause a horn to
sprout for the house of Israel, and I will open your mouth to
speak among them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?
“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his multitude: ‘Who can be compared to your greatness?
The strong among the mighty shall
speak to him out of the midst of
hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie
uncircumcised, slain by the sword.
Mighty chiefs will
speak from the midst of
Sheol about Egypt and her allies: ‘They have come down and lie with the
uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword.’
Son of man,
speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their
watchman:
“Son of man,
speak to your people and tell them: ‘Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land choose a man from among them,
appointing him as their
watchman,
When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou
dost not
speak to
warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ but you do not
speak out to
dissuade him from his way, then that wicked man will die in his iniquity, yet I will hold you accountable for his blood.
Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
Now as for you, son of man, tell the house of Israel that this is what they have said: ‘Our transgressions and our sins are heavy upon us, and we are wasting away because of them! How can we live?’
Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
“Son of man, those living in the ruins in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one man, yet he possessed the land. But we are many; surely the land has been given to us as a possession.’
Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
As for you, son of man, your people are talking about you near the city walls and in the doorways of their houses. One speaks to another, each saying to his brother, ‘Come and hear the message that has come from the LORD!’
And when the children of thy people shall
speak unto thee, saying,
Wilt thou not
shew us what thou meanest by these?
When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you explain to us what you mean by these?’
And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD;
Speak unto every
feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field,
Assemble yourselves, and come; gather
yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘
Assemble and come together from all around to the
sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.
And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.
While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple,
But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to
speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can
shew me the interpretation thereof.
If you do not tell me the dream, there is only one decree for you. You have
conspired to
speak before me false and
fraudulent words, hoping the situation will change. Therefore tell me the dream, and I will know that you can give me its interpretation.”
Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which
speak any thing
amiss against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a
dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything offensive against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego will be cut into pieces and their houses reduced to
rubble. For there is no other god who can deliver in this way.”
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns
plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth
speaking great things.
While I was
contemplating the horns, suddenly another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like those of a man and a mouth that spoke words of
arrogance.
I
beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I
beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.
Then I kept watching because of the
arrogant words the horn was
speaking. As I continued to watch, the beast was slain, and its body was destroyed and thrown into the
blazing fire.
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
He will
speak out against the Most High and
oppress the saints of the Most High, intending to change the appointed times and laws; and the saints will be given into his hand for a time, and times, and half a time.
Then I heard one saint
speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the
transgression of
desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be
trodden under foot?
Then I heard a holy one
speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long until the
fulfillment of the vision of the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes
desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary and of the host to be
trampled?”
Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.
While he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. Then he touched me, helped me to my feet,
And whiles I was
speaking, and praying, and
confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my
supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
While I was
speaking, praying,
confessing my sin and that of my people Israel, and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning His holy mountain—
Yea, whiles I was
speaking in prayer, even the man
Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening
oblation.
while I was still praying,
Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I
speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood
trembling.
He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man who is highly precious. Consider carefully the words that I am about to say to you. Stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had said this to me, I stood up
trembling.
And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became
dumb.
While he was speaking these words to me, I set my face toward the ground and became speechless.
For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me,
straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.
How can I, your servant, speak with you, my lord? Now I have no strength, nor is any breath left in me.”
And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong,
yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord
speak; for thou hast strengthened me.
“Do not be afraid, you who are highly precious,” he said. “Peace be with you! Be strong now; be very strong!” As he spoke with me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, for you have strengthened me.”
And both these kings’ hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall
speak lies at one table; but it shall not
prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.
And the two kings, with their hearts bent on evil, will
speak lies at the same table, but to no
avail, for still the end will come at the appointed time.
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall
exalt himself, and
magnify himself above every god, and shall
speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall
prosper till the
indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
Then the king will do as he pleases and will
exalt and
magnify himself above every god, and he will
speak monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must be accomplished.
Therefore, behold, I will
allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and
speak comfortably unto her.
“Therefore, behold, I will
allure her and lead her to the wilderness, and
speak to her tenderly.
Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have
transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.
Woe to them, for they have
strayed from Me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against Me! Though I would
redeem them, they
speak lies against Me.
They have spoken words,
swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as
hemlock in the furrows of the field.
They speak mere words; with false oaths they make covenants. So judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of a field.
They
hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they
abhor him that
speaketh uprightly.
There are those who
hate the one who reproves in the gate and
despise him who
speaks with
integrity.
For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is
deceitful in their mouth.
For the wealthy of the city are full of violence, and its residents
speak lies; their tongues are
deceitful in their mouths.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall
speak, and not lie: though it
tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not
tarry.
For the vision awaits an appointed time; it testifies of the end and does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it, since it will surely come and will not delay.
Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a
taunting proverb against him, and say,
Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
Will not all of these take up a
taunt against him,
speaking with
mockery and
derision: ‘
Woe to him who amasses what is not his and makes himself rich with many loans! How long will this go on?’
What profiteth the
graven image that the maker thereof hath
graven it; the
molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make
dumb idols?
What use is an
idol, that a
craftsman should
carve it— or an image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot
speak.
The
remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor
speak lies; neither shall a
deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
The
remnant of Israel will no longer do wrong or
speak lies, nor will a
deceitful tongue be found in their mouths. But they will feed and lie down, with no one to make them
tremble.”
Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’S house should be built.
that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.’”
Speak now to
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
“
Speak to
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and also to the
remnant of the people. Ask them,
Speak to
Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will
shake the heavens and the earth;
“Tell
Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I am about to
shake the heavens and the earth:
