And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose
shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
As John was completing his course, he said, ‘Who do you
suppose I am? I am not that One. But He is coming after me whose
sandals I am not worthy to
untie.’
And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and
Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city,
supposing he had been dead.
Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and
Iconium and won over the crowds. They stoned Paul and
dragged him outside the city, presuming he was dead.
And the keeper of the prison
awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself,
supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
When the
jailer woke up and saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, presuming that the prisoners had escaped.
Then Paul stood in the midst of
Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too
superstitious.
Then Paul stood up in the meeting of the
Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I see that in every way you are very religious.
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
In everything, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus Himself: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
(For they had seen before with him in the city
Trophimus an
Ephesian, whom they
supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
For they had previously seen
Trophimus the
Ephesian with him in the city, and they assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.
Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none
accusation of such things as I
supposed:
But when his accusers rose to speak, they did not charge him with any of the crimes I had expected.
But had certain questions against him of their own
superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul
affirmed to be alive.
They only had some contentions with him regarding their own religion and a certain Jesus who had died, but whom Paul
affirmed to be alive.
And when the south wind
blew softly,
supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by
Crete.
When a gentle south wind began to blow, they thought they had their opportunity. So they
weighed anchor and sailed along,
hugging the coast of
Crete.
Who also honoured us with many honours; and when we departed, they
laded us with such things as were necessary.
The islanders honored us in many ways and supplied our needs when we were ready to sail.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the
godlessness and wickedness of men who
suppress the truth by their wickedness.
And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being
instructed out of the law;
if you know His will and
approve of what is
superior because you are
instructed by the law;
Boast not against the branches. But if thou
boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
do not
boast over those branches. If you do, remember this: You do not
support the root, but the root
supports you.
For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou
didst not receive? now if thou
didst receive it, why
dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
For who makes you so
superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you
boast as though you did not?
I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
Because of the present
crisis, I think it is good for a man to remain as he is.
If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
If others have this right to your support, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not exercise this right. Instead, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.
When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s
supper.
Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s
Supper you eat.
For in eating every one taketh before other his own
supper: and one is
hungry, and another is
drunken.
For as you eat, each of you goes
ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains
hungry, another gets
drunk.
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had
supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as
oft as ye drink it, in
remembrance of me.
In the same way, after
supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me.”
I am
glad of the coming of Stephanas and
Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have
supplied.
I am
glad that Stephanas,
Fortunatus, and Achaicus have arrived, because they have
supplied what was lacking from you.
But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
At the present time, your
surplus will meet their need, so that in turn their
surplus will meet your need. Then there will be equality.
For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is
superfluous for me to write to you:
Now about the service to the saints, there is no need for me to write to you.
Now he that ministereth seed to the
sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
Now He who
supplies seed to the
sower and bread for food will
supply and multiply your store of seed and will increase the harvest of your righteousness.
For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;
For this ministry of service is not only
supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many expressions of
thanksgiving to God.
For I
suppose I was not a
whit behind the very chiefest apostles.
I consider myself in no way inferior to those “
super-apostles.”
I
robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.
I
robbed other churches by accepting their
support in order to serve you.
And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from
Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being
burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.
And when I was with you and in need, I was not a burden to
anyone; for the brothers who came from
Macedonia supplied my needs. I have
refrained from being a burden to you in any way, and I will continue to do so.
I am become a
fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been
commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
I have become a
fool, but you drove me to it. In fact, you should have
commended me, since I am in no way inferior to those “
super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint
supplieth, according to the
effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the
edifying of itself in love.
From Him the whole body, fitted and held together by every
supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love through the work of each individual part.
Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay
alert with all
perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.
The latter do so in love, knowing that I am appointed for the
defense of the gospel.
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
The former, however,
preach Christ out of
selfish ambition, not
sincerely,
supposing that they can add to the distress of my chains.
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
because I know that through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, my distress will turn out for my
deliverance.
Yet I
supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your
messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
But I thought it necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, who is also your
messenger and minister to my needs.
Because for the work of Christ he was
nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to
supply your lack of service toward me.
because he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for your
deficit of service to me.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and
supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having
nourishment ministered, and
knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
He has lost connection to the head, from whom the whole body,
supported and
knit together by its joints and ligaments, grows as God causes it to grow.
Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Masters, supply your slaves with what is right and fair, since you know that you also have a Master in heaven.
Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking from your faith.
Now we
exhort you, brethren,
warn them that are
unruly, comfort the feebleminded,
support the weak, be patient toward all men.
I
exhort therefore, that, first of all,
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of
thanks, be made for all men;
Now she that is a widow indeed, and
desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in
supplications and prayers night and day.
The widow who is truly in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers.
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth,
supposing that gain is
godliness: from such withdraw
thyself.
and constant friction between men of
depraved mind who are devoid of the truth. These men regard
godliness as a means of gain.
Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
Of how much sorer punishment,
suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath
trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant,
wherewith he was
sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done
despite unto the Spirit of grace?
How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has
trampled on the Son of God,
profaned the blood of the covenant that
sanctified him, and
insulted the Spirit of grace?
Therefore, get rid of all moral
filth and every expression of evil, and
humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.
For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly
apparel, and there come in also a poor man in
vile raiment;
Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in
shabby clothes also comes in.
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.
Submit
yourselves to every
ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as
supreme;
Submit
yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to the king as the
supreme authority,
By
Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I
suppose, I have written briefly,
exhorting, and
testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.
Through
Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly,
encouraging you and
testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.
We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
Behold, I stand at the door, and
knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will
sup with him, and he with me.
Behold, I stand at the door and
knock. If
anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and
dine with him, and he with Me.
And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage
supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Then the angel told me to write, “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage
supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he
cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather
yourselves together unto the
supper of the great God;
Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he
cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, “Come, gather together for the great
supper of God,
For we had said unto the king, that the power of the Lord our God should be with them that seek him, to support them in all ways.
And the devil shall smell it, and
flee away, and never come again any more: but when thou shalt come to her, rise up both of you, and pray to God which is
merciful, who will have
pity on you, and save you: fear not, for she is appointed unto thee from the beginning; and thou shalt preserve her, and she shall go with thee. Moreover I
suppose that she shall bear thee children. Now when Tobias had heard these things, he loved her, and his heart was
effectually joined to her.
And when they had
supped, they brought Tobias in unto her.
He will give his heart to resort early to the Lord that made him, and will pray before the most High, and will open his mouth in prayer, and make
supplication for his sins.
Then lifted I up my
supplications from the earth, and prayed for
deliverance from death.
Therefore we do not make our humble
supplication before thee, O Lord our God, for the righteousness of our fathers, and of our kings.
Wherefore it is neither to be supposed nor said that they are gods, seeing, they are able neither to judge causes, nor to do good unto men.
Eleazar also,
surnamed Savaran, perceiving that one of the beasts, armed with royal
harness, was higher than all the rest, and
supposing that the king was upon him,
So when they of the city saw that the Jews had got the city as they would, their courage was
abated: wherefore they made
supplication to the king, and
cried, saying,
Afterward, when they of
Gaza made
supplication unto
Jonathan, he made peace with them, and took the sons of their chief men for hostages, and sent them to Jerusalem, and passed through the country unto Damascus.
Others ran flocking out of their houses to the general
supplication, because the place was like to come into contempt.
And all, holding their hands toward heaven, made
supplication.
Now
Menelaus,
supposing that he had
gotten a convenient time,
stole certain vessels of gold out of the temple, and gave some of them to
Andronicus, and some he sold into Tyrus and the cities round about.
But for all this his pains would not cease: for the just judgment of God was come upon him: therefore
despairing of his health, he wrote unto the Jews the letter underwritten, containing the form of a
supplication, after this manner:
Then they that were with Maccabeus made
supplication, and
besought God that he would be their helper; and so they ran with violence upon the strong holds of the Idumeans,
For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should have risen again, it had been
superfluous and vain to pray for the dead.
Now when the Jews heard of Nicanor’s coming, and that the heathen were up against them, they cast earth upon their heads, and made
supplication to him that had established his people for ever, and who always helpeth his portion with
manifestation of his presence.
