appoint over you

sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

terror,
horror, and
mockery, as you can see with your own eyes.

terrors of God are
arrayed against me.

terrors.

terror takes hold, and my body trembles in
horror.

oppressed, that the men of the earth may strike
terror no more.
For I have heard the
slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
For I hear the
slander of many; there is
terror on every side. They
conspire against me and plot to take my life.
They saw it, and so they
marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.
They saw and were
astounded; they fled in
terror.

sore pained within me: and the

terrors.

afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy

terror of the LORD and the
splendor of His majesty.

shake terribly the earth.

flee to caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the
terror of the LORD and from the
splendor of His majesty, when He rises to
shake the earth.
To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the
ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to
shake terribly the earth.

flee to caverns in the rocks and crevices in the cliffs, away from the
terror of the LORD and from the
splendor of His majesty, when He rises to
shake the earth.
Let us go up against Judah, and
vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:
‘Let us
invade Judah,
terrorize it, and divide it among ourselves. Then we can
install the son of Tabeal over it as king.’

lop the
bough with
terror: and the high ones of
stature shall be
hewn down, and the
haughty shall be humbled.

terrifying power. The tall trees will be cut down, the lofty ones will be felled.

flushed with fear.

rob us.

loot us and the lot of those who
plunder us.

tremble over what the LORD of Hosts has
planned against it.
The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.
This is the burden against the Desert by the Sea: Like whirlwinds
sweeping through the Negev, an
invader comes from the desert, from a land of
terror.
Fear, and the pit, and the
snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
Terror and pit and
snare await you, O dweller of the earth.
From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a
vexation only to understand the report.
As often as it passes through, it will carry you away; it will
sweep through morning after morning, by day and by night.” The understanding of this message will bring sheer
terror.
Thine heart shall
meditate terror. Where is the
scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
Your mind will
ponder the former
terror: “Where is he who
tallies? Where is he who weighs? Where is he who counts the towers?”
Behold, all his fellows shall be
ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be
ashamed together.

assemble and take their stand; they will all be brought to
terror and shame.
Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy
sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
So take your stand with your spells and with your many
sorceries, with which you have
wearied yourself from your youth. Perhaps you will succeed; perhaps you will
inspire terror!
And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the
fury of the
oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
But you have forgotten the LORD, your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You live in
terror all day long because of the
fury of the
oppressor who is bent on destruction. But where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.
So I will choose their punishment and I will bring
terror upon them, because I called and no one answered, I spoke and no one
listened. But they did evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.”

We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!
We hoped for peace, but no good has come, for a time of
healing, but there was only
terror.
Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul
lothed Zion? why hast thou
smitten us, and there is no
healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of
healing, and behold trouble!
Have You rejected Judah completely? Do You
despise Zion? Why have You
stricken us so that we are beyond
healing? We hoped for peace, but no good has come, and for the time of
healing, but there was only
terror.
Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a
spoiler at
noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and
terrors upon the city.
I will make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. I will bring a destroyer at
noon against the mothers of young men. I will suddenly bring upon them
anguish and dismay.
Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil.
Do not become a
terror to me; You are my refuge in the day of
disaster.

terror to
thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them
captive into Babylon, and shall
slay them with the sword.
For this is what the LORD says: ‘I will make you a
terror to
yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. And I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will carry them away to Babylon and put them to the sword.
For I heard the
defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my
halting, saying,
Peradventure he will be
enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our
revenge on him.
For I have heard the
whispering of many: “
Terror is on every side! Report him; let us report him!” All my trusted friends watch for my fall: “Perhaps he will be
deceived so that we may prevail against him and take our
vengeance upon him.”
For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of
trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
Yes, this is what the LORD says: “A cry of
panic is heard— a cry of
terror, not of peace.
And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;
You brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror.
Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled
apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.
Why am I seeing this? They are
terrified, they are retreating; their warriors are defeated, they
flee in
haste without looking back;
terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.
Fear, and the pit, and the
snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.

snare await you, O dweller of Moab,” declares the LORD.

terror upon you, declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, from all those around you. You will each be driven
headlong, with no one to regather the fugitives.
Thy terribleness hath
deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
The
terror you cause and the pride of your heart have
deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit. Though you
elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side.
They will take their tents and flocks, their tent curtains and all their goods. They will take their camels for themselves. They will
shout to them: ‘
Terror is on every side!’

dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have
swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.
You summoned my attackers on every side, as for the day of an appointed feast. In the day of the LORD’s anger no one escaped or survived; my enemy has destroyed those I
nurtured and reared.
They shall also
gird themselves with
sackcloth, and
horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and
baldness upon all their heads.
They will put on
sackcloth, and
terror will
overwhelm them. Shame will cover all their faces, and all their heads will be
shaved.
Cry and
howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel:
terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people:
smite therefore upon thy
thigh.
Cry out and
wail, O son of man, for the sword is
wielded against My people; it is against all the princes of Israel! They are
tossed to the sword with My people; therefore strike your
thigh.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and
spoiled.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Bring a
mob against them and
consign them to
terror and
plunder.
Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their
broidered garments: they shall
clothe themselves with
trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall
tremble at every moment, and be
astonished at thee.
All the princes of the sea will descend from their thrones, remove their robes, and strip off their
embroidered garments. Clothed with
terror, they will sit on the ground,
trembling every moment,
appalled over you.
And they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that
wast inhabited of
seafaring men, the
renowned city, which
wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their
terror to be on all that
haunt it!
Then they will
lament for you, saying, “How you have perished, O city of
renown inhabited by
seafaring men— she who was powerful on the sea, along with her people, who imposed
terror on all peoples!
I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.
I will make you an object of
horror, and you will be no more. You will be sought, but will never be found,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.
Those who trade among the nations hiss at you; you have come to a
horrible end and will be no more.’”
All they that know thee among the people shall be
astonished at thee: thou shalt be a
terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
All the nations who know you are
appalled over you. You have come to a
horrible end and will be no more.’”
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.
Her graves are set in the depths of the Pit, and her company is all around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword— those who once spread terror in the land of the living.
There is
Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down
uncircumcised into the
nether parts of the earth, which caused their
terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
Elam is there with all her multitudes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword— those who went down
uncircumcised to the earth below, who once spread their
terror in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit.
They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their
terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that be slain.
Among the slain they prepare a resting place for
Elam with all her hordes, with her graves all around her. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their
terror was once spread in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.
There is
Meshech,
Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their
terror in the land of the living.
Meshech and
Tubal are there with all their multitudes, with their graves all around them. All of them are
uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because they spread their
terror in the land of the living.
And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the
uncircumcised, which are gone down to
hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their
iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the
terror of the mighty in the land of the living.
They do not lie down with the fallen warriors of old, who went down to
Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were placed under their heads, whose shields rested on their bones, although the
terror of the mighty was once in the land of the living.
There be the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their
terror they are
ashamed of their might; and they lie
uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.
All the leaders of the north and all the Sidonians are there; they went down in disgrace with the slain,
despite the
terror of their might. They lie
uncircumcised with those slain by the sword and bear their shame with those who descend to the Pit.
For I have caused my
terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the
uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
For I will spread My
terror in the land of the living, so that Pharaoh and all his multitude will be laid to rest among the
uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword, declares the Lord GOD.”
And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great
quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
Only I, Daniel, saw the vision; the men with me did not see it, but a great
terror fell upon them, and they ran and
hid themselves.
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were
sore afraid.
When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown in terror.
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
As the women bowed their faces to the ground in terror, the two men asked them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
For rulers are not a
terror to good works, but to the evil.
Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For rulers are not a
terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Then do what is right, and you will have his
approval.
Knowing therefore the
terror of the Lord, we
persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to
persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.
But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear; do not be
shaken.”
For they, that promised to drive away
terrors and troubles from a sick soul, were sick themselves of fear, worthy to be
laughed at.
