God shall hear, and
afflict them, even he
that abideth of old.
Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
God will hear and
humiliate them— the One enthroned for the ages—
Selah because they do not change and they have no fear of God.
Mine enemies would daily
swallow me up: for they be many
that fight against me, O thou most High.
My enemies pursue me all day long, for many proudly
assail me.
When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
Then my enemies will retreat on the day I cry for help. By this I will know that God is on my side.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death:
wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
For You have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from
stumbling,
that I may walk before God in the light of life.
I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.
I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me.
He shall send from heaven, and save from the reproach of him
that would
swallow me up.
Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.
He reaches down from heaven and saves me; He rebukes those who
trample me.
Selah God sends forth His loving devotion and His truth.
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
My soul is among the lions; I lie down with
ravenous beasts— with men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.
Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the
deaf adder
that stoppeth her ear;
Let them
melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.
May they
vanish like water
that runs off; when they draw the bow, may their arrows be
blunted.
As a
snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman,
that they may not see the sun.
Like a
slug that dissolves in its
slime, like a woman’s
stillborn child, may they never see the sun.
So
that a man shall say,
Verily there is a reward for the righteous:
verily he is a God
that judgeth in the earth.
Then men will say, “There is surely a reward for the righteous! There is surely a God who judges the earth!”
Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise against me.
Consume them in wrath,
consume them,
that they may not be: and let them know
that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth.
Selah.
Consume them in wrath;
consume them till they are no more, so it may be known to the ends of the earth
that God rules over Jacob.
Selah Thou hast given a
banner to them
that fear thee,
that it may be displayed because of the truth.
Selah.
You have raised a
banner for those who fear You,
that they may
flee the bow.
Selah That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
Respond and save us with Your right hand,
that Your beloved may be delivered.
Through God we shall do
valiantly: for he it is
that shall
tread down our enemies.
With God we will perform with
valor, and He will
trample our enemies.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is
overwhelmed: lead me to the rock
that is higher than I.
From the ends of the earth I call out to You whenever my heart is
faint. Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I.
For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the
heritage of those
that fear thy name.
For You have heard my vows, O God; You have given me the inheritance reserved for those who fear Your name.
So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.
Then I will ever sing praise to Your name and
fulfill my vows day by day.
God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.
God has spoken once; I have heard this twice: that power belongs to God,
But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
But those who seek my life to destroy it will go into the depths of the earth.
But the king shall
rejoice in God; every one
that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them
that speak lies shall be stopped.
But the king will
rejoice in God; all who
swear by Him will
exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all
that see them shall
flee away.
They will be made to
stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will
shake their heads.
O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.
O You who
listen to prayer, all people will come to You.
Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
Blessed is the one You choose and bring near to dwell in Your courts! We are filled with the goodness of Your house, the
holiness of Your temple.
By terrible things in righteousness
wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them
that are
afar off upon the sea:
With
awesome deeds of righteousness You answer us, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the
farthest seas.
They also
that dwell in the
uttermost parts are afraid at thy
tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to
rejoice.
Those who live far away fear Your wonders; You make the
dawn and
sunset shout for joy.
Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
Say to God, “How
awesome are Your deeds! So great is Your power
that Your enemies cower before You.
Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.
the vows that my lips promised and my mouth spoke in my distress.
Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
Come and
listen, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for me.
That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
that Your ways may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.
God shall
bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
God blesses us, that all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also
that hate him
flee before him.
God arises. His enemies are scattered, and those who
hate Him
flee His presence.
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name:
extol him
that rideth upon the heavens by his name
JAH, and
rejoice before him.
Sing to God! Sing praises to His name.
Exalt Him who rides on the clouds— His name is the LORD— and
rejoice before Him.
The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.
The Lord gives the command; a great company of women
proclaim it:
“Kings and their armies
flee in
haste; she who waits at home divides the
plunder.
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity
captive: thou hast received gifts for men;
yea, for the
rebellious also,
that the LORD God might dwell among them.
You have ascended on high; You have led
captives away. You have received gifts from men, even from the
rebellious,
that the LORD God may dwell there.
He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death.
That thy foot may be
dipped in the blood of thine enemies, and the tongue of thy dogs in the same.
that your foot may be
dipped in the blood of your foes— the tongues of your dogs in the same.”
Thy God hath commanded thy strength:
strengthen, O God,
that which thou hast wrought for us.
Summon Your power, O God; show Your strength, O God, which You have exerted on our behalf.
Rebuke the company of
spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the
calves of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver:
scatter thou the people
that delight in war.
Rebuke the beast in the reeds, the
herd of bulls among the
calves of the nations, until it submits, bringing bars of silver.
Scatter the nations who delight in war.
To him
that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which were of old; lo, he
doth send out his voice, and
that a mighty voice.
to Him who rides upon the highest heavens of old; behold, His mighty voice resounds.
O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.
O God, You are
awesome in Your sanctuary; the God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God!
They
that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they
that would destroy me, being mine enemies
wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored
that which I took not away.
Those who
hate me without cause outnumber the hairs of my head; many are those who would destroy me— my enemies for no reason. Though I did not
steal, I must repay.
Let not them
that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be
ashamed for my sake: let not those
that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.
May those who hope in You not be
ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of Hosts; may those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel.
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
because zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who
insult You have fallen on me.
When I
wept, and
chastened my soul with fasting,
that was to my reproach.
I
wept and fasted, but it brought me reproach.
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.
Those who sit at the gate
mock me, and I am the song of drunkards.
Deliver me out of the
mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them
that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
Rescue me from the
mire and do not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the deep waters.
Let their table become a
snare before them: and
that which should have been for their
welfare, let it become a
trap.
Let their eyes be
darkened,
that they see not; and make their loins continually to
shake.
May their eyes be
darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent
forever.
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or
bullock that hath horns and
hoofs.
And this will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with horns and
hooves.
The humble shall see this, and be
glad: and your heart shall live
that seek God.
The humble will see and
rejoice. You who seek God, let your hearts be revived!
Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.
Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will save
Zion, and will build the cities of Judah:
that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
For God will save
Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah,
that they may dwell there and possess it.
The seed also of his servants shall
inherit it: and they
that love his name shall dwell therein.
The descendants of His servants will
inherit it, and those who love His name will settle in it.
Let them be
ashamed and confounded
that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion,
that desire my
hurt.
Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame
that say,
Aha,
aha.
May those who say, “
Aha,
aha!” retreat because of their shame.
Let all those
that seek thee
rejoice and be
glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be
magnified.
May all who seek You
rejoice and be
glad in You; may those who love Your salvation always say, “Let God be
magnified!”
By thee have I been
holden up from the
womb: thou art he
that took me out of my mother’s
bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.
I have
leaned on You since birth; You pulled me from my mother’s
womb. My praise is always for You.
For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,
For my enemies speak against me, and those who lie in wait for my life
conspire,
Let them be confounded and consumed
that are
adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour
that seek my
hurt.
May the accusers of my soul be
ashamed and consumed; may those who seek my
harm be covered with
scorn and disgrace.
Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God,
forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one
that is to come.
Even when I am old and gray, do not
forsake me, O God, until I
proclaim Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame,
that seek my
hurt.
My tongue will indeed
proclaim Your righteousness all day long, for those who seek my
harm are disgraced and confounded.
He shall come down like rain upon the
mown grass: as showers
that water the earth.
May he be like rain that falls on freshly cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth.
They
that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall
lick the dust.
May the nomads bow before him, and his enemies
lick the dust.
For he shall deliver the
needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him
that hath no helper.
For he will deliver the
needy who cry out and the
afflicted who have no helper.
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You.
For, lo, they
that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them
that go a
whoring from thee.
Those far from You will surely perish; You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
But as for me, it is good to draw near to God. I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
that I may
proclaim all Your works.
Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
Turn Your steps to the
everlasting ruins, to everything in the sanctuary the enemy has destroyed.
We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
There are no signs for us to see. There is no longer any prophet. And none of us knows how long this will last.
Remember this,
that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and
that the
foolish people have
blasphemed thy name.
Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the
tumult of those
that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
Unto thee, O God, do we give
thanks, unto thee do we give
thanks: for
that thy name is near thy
wondrous works declare.
We give
thanks to You, O God; we give
thanks, for Your Name is near. The people declare Your
wondrous works.
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all
that be round about him bring presents unto him
that ought to be feared.
Make and
fulfill your vows to the LORD your God; let all the
neighboring lands bring tribute to Him who is to be feared.
Thou holdest mine eyes
waking: I am so troubled
that I cannot speak.
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak.
And I said, This is my
infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
So I said, “I am
grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.”
Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples.
Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
that we have heard and known and our fathers have relayed to us.
We will not hide them from their children,
shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works
that he hath done.
We will not hide them from their children, but will declare to the next generation the praises of the LORD and His might, and the wonders He has performed.
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
For He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers to teach to their children,
That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
that the coming generation would know them— even children yet to be born— to arise and tell their own children
That they might set their hope in God, and not
forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
that they should put their confidence in God, not
forgetting His works, but keeping His commandments.
And might not be as their fathers, a
stubborn and
rebellious generation; a generation
that set not their heart
aright, and whose spirit was not
stedfast with God.
Then they will not be like their fathers, a
stubborn and
rebellious generation, whose heart was not
loyal, whose spirit was not faithful to God.
And
forgat his works, and his wonders
that he had shewed them.
They
forgot what He had done, the wonders He had shown them.
Behold, he
smote the rock,
that the waters
gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
When He struck the rock, water
gushed out and torrents
raged. But can He also give bread or supply His people with meat?”
And they remembered
that God was their rock, and the high God their
redeemer.
And they remembered
that God was their Rock,
that God Most High was their
Redeemer.
For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
He remembered
that they were but flesh, a passing
breeze that does not return.
And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
He turned their rivers to blood, and from their streams they could not drink.
He sent
divers sorts of
flies among them, which
devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
And he led them on safely, so
that they feared not: but the sea
overwhelmed their enemies.
He led them safely, so they did not fear, but the sea
engulfed their enemies.
So
that he
forsook the tabernacle of
Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
He abandoned the tabernacle of
Shiloh, the tent He had pitched among men.
Then the Lord
awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man
that shouteth by reason of wine.
Then the Lord
awoke as from sleep, like a mighty
warrior overcome by wine.
We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and
derision to them
that are round about us.
We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a
scorn and
derision to those around us.
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge You, on the kingdoms that refuse to call on Your name,
Let the
sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those
that are appointed to die;
May the groans of the
captives reach You; by the strength of Your arm preserve those condemned to death.
Give ear, O
Shepherd of Israel, thou
that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou
that dwellest between the cherubims,
shine forth.
Hear us, O
Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned between the
cherubim,
shine forth
Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to
shine; and we shall be saved.
Restore us, O God, and cause Your face to
shine upon us,
that we may be saved.
