As yet exaltest thou
thyself against my people,
that thou
wilt not let them go?
Still, you lord it over My people and do not allow them to go.
Behold, to
morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very
grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
Behold, at this time
tomorrow I will rain down the worst
hail that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded until now.
Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all
that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the
hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
So give orders now to shelter your
livestock and everything you have in the field. Every man or beast
that remains in the field and is not brought inside will die when the
hail comes down upon them.’”
He
that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle
flee into the houses:
Those among Pharaoh’s officials who feared the word of the LORD
hurried to bring their servants and
livestock to shelter,
And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
but those who disregarded the word of the LORD left their servants and
livestock in the field.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven,
that there may be
hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every
herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so
that hail may fall on all the land of Egypt—on man and beast and every plant of the field throughout the land of Egypt.”
So there was
hail, and fire mingled with the
hail, very
grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
The
hail fell and the
lightning continued
flashing through it. The
hail was so severe
that nothing like it had ever been seen in all the land of Egypt from the time it became a nation.
And the
hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all
that was in the field, both man and beast; and the
hail smote every
herb of the field, and
brake every tree of the field.
Throughout the land of Egypt, the
hail struck down everything in the field, both man and beast; it beat down every plant of the field and
stripped every tree.
Intreat the LORD (for it is enough)
that there be no more mighty thunderings and
hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.
Pray to the LORD, for there has been enough of God’s
thunder and
hail. I will let you go; you do not need to stay any longer.”
And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the
thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more
hail;
that thou mayest know how
that the earth is the LORD’S.
Moses said to him, “When I have left the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD. The
thunder will cease, and there will be no more
hail, so
that you may know
that the earth is the LORD’s.
But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.
But as for you and your officials, I know that you still do not fear the LORD our God.”
And when Pharaoh saw
that the rain and the
hail and the thunders were ceased, he
sinned yet more, and
hardened his heart, he and his servants.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have
hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants,
that I might
shew these my signs before him:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have
hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials,
that I may perform these
miraculous signs of Mine among them,
And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.
and
that you may tell your children and grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed
miraculous signs among them, so
that all of you may know
that I am the LORD.”
And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long
wilt thou refuse to humble
thyself before me? let my people go,
that they may serve me.
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble
yourself before Me? Let My people go, so
that they may worship Me.
And they shall cover the face of the earth,
that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of
that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the
hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:
They will cover the face of the land so
that no one can see it. They will
devour whatever is left after the
hail and eat every tree
that grows in your fields.
And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.
They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian—something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land.’” Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a
snare unto us? let the men go,
that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet
that Egypt is destroyed?
Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will this man be a
snare to us? Let the people go, so
that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet
realize that Egypt is in ruins?”
And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go?
So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” he said. “But who exactly will be going?”
Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
No, only the men may go and worship the LORD, since that is what you have been requesting.” And Moses and Aaron were driven from Pharaoh’s presence.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts,
that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every
herb of the land, even all
that the
hail hath left.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, so
that the locusts may
swarm over it and
devour every plant in the land—everything
that the
hail has left behind.”
And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts.
For they covered the face of the whole earth, so
that the land was
darkened; and they did eat every
herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the
hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
They covered the face of all the land until it was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees
that the
hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
Now therefore
forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God,
that he may take away from me this death only.
Now please
forgive my sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God,
that He may remove this death from me.”
And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one
locust in all the coasts of Egypt.
And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind
that carried off the locusts and
blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single
locust remained
anywhere in Egypt.
But the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so
that he would not let the children of Israel go.
But the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so
that darkness may spread over the land of Egypt—a
palpable darkness.”
And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.
But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take
heed to
thyself, see my face no more; for in
that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.
“Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring upon Pharaoh and Egypt one more plague. After that, he will allow you to leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely.
Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man
borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.
Now
announce to the people
that men and women alike should ask their neighbors for articles of silver and gold.”
and every
firstborn son in the land of Egypt will die, from the
firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, to the
firstborn of the servant
girl behind the hand mill, as well as the
firstborn of all the cattle.
But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast:
that ye may know how
that the LORD
doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
But among all the Israelites, not even a dog will
snarl at man or beast.’ Then you will know
that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.
And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.
And all these officials of yours will come and bow before me, saying, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that, I will depart.” And hot with anger, Moses left Pharaoh’s presence.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not
hearken unto you;
that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.
The LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not
listen to you, so
that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so
that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.
Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD
hardened Pharaoh’s heart so
that he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man must select a lamb for his family, one per household.
And they shall eat the flesh in
that night,
roast with fire, and
unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
They are to eat the meat
that night,
roasted over the fire, along with
unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
Do not leave any of it until morning; before the morning you must burn up any part that is left over.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will
smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will
execute judgment: I am the LORD.
On
that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every
firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will
execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.
Seven days shall ye eat
unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away
leaven out of your houses: for
whosoever eateth
leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day,
that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
For seven days you must eat
unleavened bread. On the first day you are to remove the
leaven from your houses.
Whoever eats anything
leavened from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel.
And in the first day there shall be an holy
convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy
convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save
that which every man must eat,
that only may be done of you.
On the first day you are to hold a sacred assembly, and another on the seventh day. You must not do any work on those days, except to prepare the meals—that is all you may do.
Seven days shall there be no
leaven found in your houses: for
whosoever eateth
that which is
leavened, even
that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
For seven days there must be no
leaven found in your houses. If
anyone eats something
leavened,
that person, whether a foreigner or native of the land, must be cut off from the congregation of Israel.
And ye shall take a
bunch of
hyssop, and dip it in the blood
that is in the
bason, and strike the
lintel and the two side posts with the blood
that is in the
bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
Take a
cluster of
hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin, and
brush the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out the door of his house until morning.
For the LORD will pass through to
smite the Egyptians; and when he
seeth the blood upon the
lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to
smite you.
When the LORD passes through to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over
that doorway; so He will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as He promised, you are to keep this service.
That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD’S
passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he
smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
you are to reply, ‘It is the
Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when He struck down the Egyptians and
spared our homes.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
And the Egyptians were
urgent upon the people,
that they might send them out of the land in
haste; for they said, We be all dead men.
And in order to send them out of the land quickly, the Egyptians urged the people on. “For otherwise,” they said, “we are all going to die!”
And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so
that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they
spoiled the Egyptians.
And the LORD gave the people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians
that they granted their request. In this way they
plundered the Egyptians.
And the children of Israel journeyed from
Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot
that were men, beside children.
The Israelites journeyed from
Rameses to Succoth with about 600,000 men on foot, besides women and children.
And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the
selfsame day it came to pass,
that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.
At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD’s divisions went out of the land of Egypt.
It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
Because the LORD kept a
vigil that night to bring them out of the land of Egypt, this same night is to be a
vigil to the LORD, to be observed by all the Israelites for the generations to come.
But every man’s servant
that is bought for money, when thou hast
circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.
But any slave who has been purchased may eat of it, after you have
circumcised him.
And when a stranger shall
sojourn with thee, and will keep the
passover to the LORD, let all his males be
circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one
that is born in the land: for no
uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
One law shall be to him
that is
homeborn, and unto the stranger
that sojourneth among you.
The same law shall apply to both the native and the foreigner who resides among you.”
And it came to pass the
selfsame day,
that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
And on that very day the LORD brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.
And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey,
that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
And when the LORD brings you into the land of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Amorites,
Hivites, and Jebusites—the land He
swore to your fathers
that He would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you shall keep this service in this month.
And thou shalt
shew thy son in
that day, saying, This is done because of
that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
And on that day you are to explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’
And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a
memorial between thine eyes,
that the LORD’S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.
It shall be a sign for you on your hand and a reminder on your
forehead that the Law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For with a mighty hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.
That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all
that openeth the
matrix, and every
firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD’S.
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this?
that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of
bondage:
In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go,
that the LORD
slew all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the
firstborn of man, and the
firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all
that openeth the
matrix, being males; but all the
firstborn of my children I
redeem.
And when Pharaoh
stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of man and beast. This is why I sacrifice to the LORD the
firstborn male of every
womb, but I
redeem all the
firstborn of my sons.’
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go,
that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although
that was near; for God said, Lest
peradventure the people
repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
And the LORD went before them by day in a
pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a
pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
And the LORD went before them in a
pillar of cloud to guide their way by day, and in a
pillar of fire to give them light by night, so
that they could travel by day or night.
Speak unto the children of Israel,
that they turn and
encamp before
Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea, over against
Baal-zephon: before it shall ye
encamp by the sea.
“Tell the Israelites to turn back and
encamp before
Pi-hahiroth, between
Migdol and the sea. You are to
encamp by the sea, directly opposite
Baal-zephon.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart,
that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host;
that the Egyptians may know
that I am the LORD. And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so
that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know
that I am the LORD.” So this is what the Israelites did.
And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
And the LORD
hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
And the LORD
hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt so
that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out defiantly.
And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us into the wilderness to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.
But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
And I, behold, I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his
chariots, and upon his
horsemen.
And I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians so
that they will go in after them. Then I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army and
chariots and
horsemen.
And the Egyptians shall know
that I am the LORD, when I have
gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his
chariots, and upon his
horsemen.
The Egyptians will know
that I am the LORD when I am honored through Pharaoh, his
chariots, and his
horsemen.”
And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
so
that it came between the camps of Egypt and Israel. The cloud was there in the darkness, but it
lit up the night. So all night long neither camp went near the other.
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided,
And it came to pass,
that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the
pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
At morning watch, however, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the
pillar of fire and cloud, and He threw their camp into confusion.
And took off their
chariot wheels,
that they
drave them
heavily: so
that the Egyptians said, Let us
flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
He caused their
chariot wheels to
wobble, so
that they had difficulty driving. “Let us
flee from the Israelites,” said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea,
that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their
chariots, and upon their
horsemen.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so
that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their
chariots and
horsemen.”
And the waters returned, and covered the
chariots, and the
horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh
that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
The waters flowed back and covered the
chariots and
horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh
that had
chased the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
That day the LORD saved Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore.
And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
When Israel saw the great power that the LORD had exercised over the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and believed in Him and in His servant Moses.
And in the greatness of thine
excellency thou hast overthrown them
that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as
stubble.
You overthrew Your
adversaries by Your great majesty. You unleashed Your burning wrath; it consumed them like
stubble.
And when they came to
Marah, they could not drink of the waters of
Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called
Marah.
And when they came to
Marah, they could not drink the water there because it was bitter. (
That is why it was named
Marah.)
And said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and
wilt do
that which is right in his sight, and
wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD
that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
Then on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for
that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we,
that ye
murmur against us?
and in the morning you will see the LORD’s glory, because He has heard your
grumbling against Him. For who are we
that you should
grumble against us?”
And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for
that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
And Moses added, “The LORD will give you meat to eat this evening and bread to fill you in the morning, for He has heard your
grumbling against Him. Who are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the LORD.”
And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
And as Aaron was speaking to the whole congregation of Israel, they looked toward the desert, and there in a cloud the glory of the LORD appeared.
I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
“I have heard the
grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At
twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know
that I am the LORD your God.’”
And it came to pass,
that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the
dew lay round about the host.
That evening
quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of
dew around the camp.
And when the
dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the
hoar frost on the ground.
When the layer of
dew had
evaporated, there were thin flakes on the desert floor, as fine as
frost on the ground.
And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is
manna: for they
wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
And when they did
mete it with an
omer, he
that gathered much had nothing over, and he
that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.
When they measured it by the
omer, he who gathered much had no excess, and he who gathered little had no shortfall. Each one gathered as much as he needed to eat.
And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much food—two omers per person—and all the leaders of the congregation came and reported this to Moses.
And he said unto them, This is
that which the LORD hath said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD:
bake that which ye will
bake to day, and
seethe that ye will
seethe; and
that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
He told them, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘
Tomorrow is to be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So
bake what you want to
bake, and
boil what you want to
boil. Then set aside whatever remains and keep it until morning.’”
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
“Eat it
today,” Moses said, “because
today is a Sabbath to the LORD.
Today you will not find anything in the field.
