tarried long upon the tabernacle many days,
then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.
Even when the cloud
lingered over the tabernacle for many days, the Israelites kept the LORD’s charge and did not set out.
And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
Sometimes the cloud remained only from evening until morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they would set out. Whether it was by day or by night, when the cloud was taken up, they would set out.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,

trumpet,
then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.

When ye blow an
alarm,
then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.
When you sound short blasts, the camps that lie on the east side are to set out.
When ye blow an
alarm the second time,

alarm for their journeys.
When you sound the short blasts a second time, the camps that lie on the south side are to set out. The blasts are to signal them to set out.
And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you,
then ye shall blow an
alarm with the
trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

adversary who attacks you, sound short blasts on the
trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God and saved from your enemies.

pastry baked with fine oil.

With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the
similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore
then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
I speak with him face to face, clearly and not in
riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why
then were you unafraid to speak against My servant Moses?”
And they came unto the
brook of
Eshcol, and cut down from
thence a branch with one
cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

Eshcol, they cut down a branch with a single
cluster of grapes, which they carried on a pole between two men. They also took some pomegranates and figs.

kid of the goats for a sin offering.

aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat as a sin offering.
And it shall be

yourselves! For

then do you
exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?”

Korah and all his followers, “
Tomorrow morning the LORD will
reveal who belongs to Him and who is holy, and He will bring that person near to Himself. The one He chooses, He will bring near to Himself.
And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to
morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD
doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

tomorrow you are to place fire and incense in them in the presence of the LORD.

yourselves!”

If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the
visitation of all men;
then the LORD hath not sent me.
If these men die a natural death, or if they suffer the fate of all men, then the LORD has not sent me.
But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and
swallow them up, with all that
appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit;
then ye shall understand that these men have
provoked the LORD.
But if the LORD brings about something
unprecedented, and the earth opens its mouth and
swallows them and all that belongs to them so that they go down alive into
Sheol,
then you will know that these men have treated the LORD with contempt.”

“Speak to the Levites and tell them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the
tithe that I have given you as your inheritance, you must present part of it as an offering to the LORD—a
tithe of the
tithe.

heaved the best thereof from it,
then it shall be counted unto the Levites as the increase of the threshingfloor, and as the increase of the winepress.

ceremonially unclean until evening.

heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a
purification for sin.
He shall
purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he
purify not himself the third day,
then the seventh day he shall not be clean.

purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day;

Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the

From there they moved on and camped on the other side of the
Arnon, in the wilderness that extends into the Amorite territory. Now the
Arnon is the border between the Moabites and the
Amorites.
And from

adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his
ass, and his two servants were with him.

kindled because

oppose him.
Balaam was riding his
donkey, and his two servants were with him.
But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow passage between two vineyards, with walls on either side.
And the LORD opened the mouth of the
ass, and she said unto
Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast
smitten me these three times?
Then the LORD opened the
donkey’s mouth, and she said to
Balaam, “What have I done to you that you have beaten me these three times?”
Then the LORD opened the eyes of
Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
Then the LORD opened
Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. And
Balaam bowed low and fell facedown.
And the
ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
The
donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had not turned away,
then by now I would surely have killed you and let her live.”

baal. From there he could see the outskirts of the camp of the people.

Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to
curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
Then Balak said to
Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you here to
curse my enemies, and behold, you have only blessed them!”
And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and
curse me them from
thence.
Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the outskirts of their camp—not all of them. And from there,
curse them for me.”
And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear;
hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:
Then Balaam lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Arise, O Balak, and
listen; give ear to me, O son of Zippor.
Now Balak said to
Balaam, “
Then neither
curse them at all nor
bless them at all!”
And Balak said unto
Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place;
peradventure it will please God that thou mayest
curse me them from
thence.
“Please come,” said Balak, “I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God that you
curse them for me from there.”
And
Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
Then Balaam said, “Build for me seven altars here, and prepare for me seven bulls and seven rams.”
And Balak’s anger was
kindled against
Balaam, and he
smote his hands together: and Balak said unto
Balaam, I called thee to
curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
Then Balak’s anger burned against
Balaam, and he struck his hands together and said to
Balaam, “I summoned you to
curse my enemies, but behold, you have
persisted in blessing them these three times.
