Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
So God created the great sea creatures and every living
thing that moves, with which the waters
teemed according to their kinds, and every bird of flight after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and
creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds:
livestock, land crawlers, and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, the
livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the
livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and
replenish the earth, and
subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living
thing that moveth upon the earth.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and
subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every
thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green
herb for meat: and it was so.
And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the
creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
So the LORD said, “I will
blot out man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—every man and beast and
crawling creature and bird of the air—for I am
grieved that I have made them.”
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
And you are to bring two of every living creature into the ark—male and female—to keep them alive with you.
Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every
creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
Two of every kind of bird and animal and
crawling creature will come to you to be kept alive.
For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
For seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will
wipe from the face of the earth every living
thing I have made.”
Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
The clean and unclean animals, the birds, and everything that crawls along the ground
They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
they and every kind of wild animal,
livestock,
crawling creature, bird, and winged creature.
And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
And they entered, the male and female of every living
thing, as God had commanded
Noah. Then the LORD shut him in.
And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:
And every living
thing that moved upon the earth perished—birds,
livestock, animals, every creature that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind.
And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the
creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and
Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
And every living
thing on the face of the earth was destroyed—man and
livestock,
crawling creatures and birds of the air; they were
blotted out from the earth, and only
Noah and those with him in the ark remained.
And God remembered
Noah, and every living
thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
But God remembered
Noah and all the animals and
livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a wind over the earth, and the waters began to
subside.
Bring forth with thee every living
thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
Bring out all the living creatures that are with you—birds,
livestock, and everything that crawls upon the ground—so that they can spread out over the earth and be fruitful and multiply upon it.”
Every beast, every
creeping thing, and every fowl, and
whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
Every living creature, every
creeping thing, and every bird—everything that moves upon the earth—came out of the ark, kind by kind.
And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again
curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again
smite any more every
thing living, as I have done.
When the LORD smelled the pleasing
aroma, He said in His heart, “Never again will I
curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from his youth. And never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done.
Every moving
thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green
herb have I given you all
things.
Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things.
And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the
livestock, and every beast of the earth—every living
thing that came out of the ark.
And the LORD said unto
Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now
thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
After Lot had departed, the LORD said to
Abram, “Now lift up your eyes from the place where you are, and look to the north and south and east and west,
And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered
thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him
tithes of all.
and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then
Abram gave
Melchizedek a tenth of everything.
That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any
thing that is
thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made
Abram rich:
that I will not accept even a thread, or a
strap of a
sandal, or anything that belongs to you, lest you should say, ‘I have made
Abram rich.’
After these
things the word of the LORD came unto
Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not,
Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
After these events, the word of the LORD came to
Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid,
Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”
And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be
thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of
thine own
bowels shall be
thine heir.
Then the word of the LORD came to
Abram, saying, “This one will not be your heir, but one who comes from your own body will be your heir.”
Is any
thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and
Sarah shall have a son.
Is anything too difficult for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you—in about a year—and
Sarah will have a son.”
And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
And the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to
slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
Far be it from You to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
“Please, my brothers,” he
pleaded, “don’t do such a wicked
thing!
And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
“Very well,” he answered, “I will grant this request as well, and will not
demolish the town you indicate.
Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any
thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Hurry! Run there quickly, for I cannot do anything until you reach it.” That is why the town was called Zoar.
Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet; he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, be aware that you will surely die—you and all who belong to you.”
Therefore
Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these
things in their ears: and the men were
sore afraid.
Early the next morning
Abimelech got up and summoned all his servants; and when he described to them all that had happened, the men were
terrified.
Then
Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I
offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
Then
Abimelech called Abraham and asked, “What have you done to us? How have I
sinned against you, that you have brought such
tremendous guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done
things to me that should not be done.”
And
Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this
thing?
And the
thing was very
grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.
Now this matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son
Ishmael.
Arise, lift up the
lad, and hold him in
thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
Get up, lift up the boy, and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
And
Abimelech said, I
wot not who hath done this
thing: neither
didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.
Abimelech replied, “I do not know who has done this. You did not tell me, so I have not heard about it until
today.”
And it came to pass after these
things, that God did
tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Some time later God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he answered.
And he said, Take now thy son,
thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of
Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
“Take your son,” God said, “your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of
Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
And he said, Lay not
thine hand upon the
lad, neither do thou any
thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not
withheld thy son,
thine only son from me.
“Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him,” said the angel, “for now I know that you fear God, since you have not
withheld your only son from me.”
And said, By myself have I
sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this
thing, and hast not
withheld thy son,
thine only son:
saying, “By Myself I have
sworn, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not
withheld your only son,
And it came to pass after these
things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother
Nahor;
Some time later, Abraham was told, “Milcah has also borne sons to your brother
Nahor:
And Abraham was old, and well
stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all
things.
By now Abraham was old and well along in years, and the LORD had blessed him in every way.
And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to
Mesopotamia, unto the city of
Nahor.
Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed with all manner of good
things from his master in hand. And he set out for
Nahor’s hometown in
Aram-naharaim.
And the
damsel ran, and told them of her mother’s house these
things.
The
girl ran and told her mother’s household about these
things.
Then
Laban and
Bethuel answered and said, The
thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
Laban and
Bethuel answered, “This is from the LORD; we have no choice in the matter.
And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and
raiment, and gave them to
Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious
things.
Then he brought out jewels of silver and gold, and articles of clothing, and he gave them to
Rebekah. He also gave precious gifts to her brother and her mother.
And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
Then the servant told Isaac all that he had done.
And it came to pass, when
Laban heard the
tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and
kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told
Laban all these
things.
When
Laban heard the news about his sister’s son Jacob, he ran out to meet him. He embraced him and
kissed him and brought him to his home, where Jacob told him all that had happened.
And
Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in
thine eyes,
tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.
But
Laban replied, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by
divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you.”
And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any
thing: if thou
wilt do this
thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock:
“What can I give you?”
Laban asked. “You do not need to give me anything,” Jacob replied. “If you do this one
thing for me, I will keep on
shepherding and keeping your flocks.
‘Look up,’ he said, ‘and see that all the males that are mating with the flock are
streaked,
spotted, or
speckled; for I have seen all that
Laban has done to you.
And hast not suffered me to
kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done
foolishly in so doing.
But you did not even let me
kiss my grandchildren and my daughters goodbye. Now you have done a
foolish thing.
With
whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren
discern thou what is
thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that
Rachel had
stolen them.
If you find your gods with
anyone here, he shall not live! In the presence of our relatives, see for
yourself if anything is yours, and take it back.” For Jacob did not know that
Rachel had
stolen the idols.
And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto
Esau, when ye find him.
He also
instructed the second, the third, and all those following behind the herds: “When you meet
Esau, you are to say the same
thing to him.
And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were
grieved, and they were very
wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which
thing ought not to be done.
When Jacob’s sons heard what had happened, they returned from the field. They were filled with grief and
fury, because
Shechem had committed an
outrage in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter—a
thing that should not be done.
And they said unto them, We cannot do this
thing, to give our sister to one that is
uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
“We cannot do such a
thing,” they said. “To give our sister to an
uncircumcised man would be a disgrace to us.
And the young man
deferred not to do the
thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.
The young man, who was the most respected of all his father’s household, did not
hesitate to
fulfill this request, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter.
And the
thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he
slew him also.
What he did was wicked in the sight of the LORD, so He put Onan to death as well.
And he said, What
pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy
signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in
thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
“What
pledge should I give you?” he asked. She answered, “Your seal and your cord, and the staff in your hand.” So he gave them to her and
slept with her, and she became
pregnant by him.
And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
and after some time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph and said, “Sleep with me.”
There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
No one in this house is greater than I am. He has
withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?”
The keeper of the prison looked not to any
thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to
prosper.
The
warden did not
concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
And it came to pass after these
things, that the
butler of the king of Egypt and his
baker had
offended their lord the king of Egypt.
Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up
thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou
wast his
butler.
Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore your position. You will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you did when you were his
cupbearer.
But
think on me when it shall be well with thee, and
shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
But when it goes well for you, please remember me and show me kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, that he might bring me out of this prison.
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other
kine upon the
brink of the river.
After them, seven other cows, sickly and thin, came up from the Nile and stood beside the well-fed cows on the bank of the river.
And the ill favoured and leanfleshed
kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat
kine. So Pharaoh
awoke.
And the cows that were sickly and
thin devoured the seven
sleek, well-fed cows. Then Pharaoh
woke up,
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
After them, seven other heads of grain
sprouted,
thin and
scorched by the east wind.
And the seven
thin ears
devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh
awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
And the
thin heads of grain
swallowed up the seven
plump, ripe ones. Then Pharaoh
awoke and realized it was a dream.
And, behold, seven other
kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
After them, seven other cows—sickly,
ugly, and
thin—came up. I have never seen such
ugly cows in all the land of Egypt!
And the
lean and the ill favoured
kine did eat up the first seven fat
kine:
Then the
thin,
ugly cows
devoured the seven well-fed cows that were there first.
And, behold, seven ears,
withered,
thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:
And the
thin ears
devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.
And the
thin heads of grain
swallowed the seven
plump ones. I told this dream to the magicians, but no one could explain it to me.”
And the seven
thin and ill favoured
kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
Moreover, the seven
thin,
ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain
scorched by the east wind—they are seven years of famine.
This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.
It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
Moreover, because the dream was given to Pharaoh in two versions, the matter has been decreed by God, and He will carry it out shortly.
And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
This proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his officials.
And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye
bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and
Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these
things are against me.
Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my sons. Joseph is gone and
Simeon is no more. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”
And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these words? God
forbid that thy servants should do according to this
thing:
“Why does my lord say these things?” they asked. “Your servants could not possibly do such a thing.
Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord’s ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.
Then Judah approached Joseph and said, “Sir, please let your servant speak personally to my lord. Do not be
angry with your servant, for you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
And to his father he sent after this manner; ten
asses laden with the good
things of Egypt, and ten she
asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way.
And he sent to his father the following: ten
donkeys loaded with the best of Egypt, and ten female
donkeys loaded with grain and bread and provisions for his father’s journey.
I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.
I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will surely bring you back. And Joseph’s own hands will close your eyes.”
Wherefore shall we die before
thine eyes, both we and our land?
buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not
desolate.
Why should we perish before your eyes—we and our land as well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become
desolate.”
And it came to pass after these
things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons,
Manasseh and Ephraim.
Some time later Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he set out with his two sons,
Manasseh and Ephraim.
And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.
Any children born to you after them shall be yours, and they shall be called by the names of their brothers in the territory they
inherit.
Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.
Judah, your brothers shall praise you. Your hand shall be on the necks of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down to you.
And the king of Egypt called for the
midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this
thing, and have saved the men children alive?
So the king of Egypt summoned the
midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
But the man replied, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you
planning to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “This
thing I have done has surely become known.”
Now when Pharaoh heard this
thing, he sought to
slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of
Midian: and he sat down by a well.
When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and settled in the land of
Midian, where he sat down beside a well.
And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
“Stretch out your hand and
grab it by the tail,” the LORD said to Moses, who reached out his hand and caught the
snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand.
And the LORD said
furthermore unto him, Put now
thine hand into thy
bosom. And he put his hand into his
bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was
leprous as snow.
Furthermore, the LORD said to Moses, “Put your hand inside your
cloak.” So he put his hand inside his
cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was
leprous, white as snow.
And he said, Put
thine hand into thy
bosom again. And he put his hand into his
bosom again; and
plucked it out of his
bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
“Put your hand back inside your
cloak,” said the LORD. So Moses put his hand back inside his
cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his skin.
And thou shalt take this rod in
thine hand,
wherewith thou shalt do signs.
But take this staff in your hand so you can perform signs with it.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in
thine hand: but I will
harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
The LORD
instructed Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put within your power. But I will
harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
