I have surely heard Ephraim
bemoaning himself thus;
Thou hast
chastised me, and I was
chastised, as a
bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn
thou me, and I shall be turned; for
thou art the LORD my God.
I have surely heard Ephraim’s
moaning: ‘You disciplined me severely, like an untrained
calf. Restore me, that I may return, for You are the LORD my God.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child?
Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the LORD.
Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the
highway, even the way which
thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
“Set up the roadmarks, establish the signposts. Keep the
highway in mind, the road you have traveled. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to these cities of yours.
How long
wilt thou go about, O
thou backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.
How long will you
wander, O faithless daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the land— a woman will shelter a man.”
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they
brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt— a covenant they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore
dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying: “Why are you
prophesying like this? You claim that the LORD says, ‘Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
And he shall lead
Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD:
though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not
prosper?
He will take
Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will stay until I attend to him, declares the LORD. If you fight against the Chaldeans, you will not succeed.’”
Ah Lord GOD! behold,
thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!
Thou shewest lovingkindness unto
thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the
bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,
You show loving devotion to thousands but lay the iniquity of the fathers into the laps of their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of Hosts,
And hast given them this land, which
thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;
You gave them this land that You had
sworn to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:
They came in and possessed it, but they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law. They failed to perform all that You commanded them to do, and so You have brought upon them all this
disaster.
Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the
pestilence: and what
thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold,
thou seest it.
See how the siege ramps are mounted against the city to capture it. And by sword and famine and plague, the city has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What You have spoken has happened, as You now see!
And
thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD,
Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
Yet You, O Lord GOD, have said to me, ‘
Buy for
yourself the field with silver and call in witnesses, even
though the city has been delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans!’”
And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face:
though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not
hearkened to receive instruction.
They have turned their backs to Me and not their faces.
Though I taught them again and again, they would not
listen or
respond to discipline.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and
shew thee great and mighty things, which
thou knowest not.
Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
Considerest
thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have
despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
“Have you not noticed what these people are saying: ‘The LORD has rejected the two families He had chosen’? So they
despise My people and no longer regard them as a nation.
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
And you
yourself will not escape his
grasp, but will surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him face to face; and you will go to Babylon.
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O
Zedekiah king of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of thee,
Thou shalt not die by the sword:
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O
Zedekiah king of Judah. This is what the LORD says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;
But
thou shalt die in peace: and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will
lament thee, saying,
Ah lord! for I have pronounced the word, saith the LORD.
you will die in peace. As spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who preceded you, so people will burn spices for you and
lament, ‘
Alas, O master!’ For I Myself have spoken this word, declares the LORD.”
At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years,
thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers
hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.
Every seventh year, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who has sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free. But your fathers did not
listen or
incline their ear.
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein
thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
And they asked
Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How
didst thou write all these words at his mouth?
“Tell us now,” they asked
Baruch, “how did you write all these words? Was it at Jeremiah’s
dictation?”
Then said the princes unto
Baruch, Go, hide thee,
thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
Then the officials said to
Baruch, “You and Jeremiah must hide
yourselves and tell no one where you are.”
Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made
intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.
Even
though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the
scroll, he would not
listen to them.
And
thou shalt say to
Jehoiakim the king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD;
Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast
thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
You are to
proclaim concerning
Jehoiakim king of Judah that this is what the LORD says: You have burned the
scroll and said, ‘Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon would surely come and destroy this land and deprive it of man and beast?’
For
though ye had
smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down.”
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
But when he reached the Gate of Benjamin, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, seized him and said, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he,
thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
Later, King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and received him in his palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there a word from the LORD?” “There is,” Jeremiah replied. “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my
supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that
thou cause me not to return to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, lest I die there.
But now please
listen, O my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of
Jonathan the
scribe, or I will die there.”
Then Jeremiah said unto
Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee,
wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel,
wilt thou not
hearken unto me?
“If I tell you,” Jeremiah replied, “you will surely put me to death. And even if I give you advice, you will not
listen to me.”
Then said Jeremiah unto
Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If
thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and
thou shalt live, and thine house:
Then Jeremiah said to
Zedekiah, “This is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will
survive.
But if
thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and
thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
But if you do not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans. They will burn it down, and you
yourself will not escape their
grasp.’”
But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word that the LORD has shown me:
So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
All your wives and children will be brought out to the Chaldeans. And you
yourself will not escape their
grasp, for you will be seized by the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned down.”
Then said
Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and
thou shalt not die.
But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
If the officials hear that I have spoken with you, and they come and demand of you, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what he said to you; do not hide it from us, or we will kill you,’
Then
thou shalt say unto them, I presented my
supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to
Jonathan’s house, to die there.
then tell them, ‘I was presenting to the king my petition that he not return me to the house of
Jonathan to die there.’”
But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.
But I will deliver you on that day, declares the LORD, and you will not be delivered into the hands of the men whom you fear.
For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.
For I will surely
rescue you so that you do not fall by the sword. Because you have trusted in Me, you will escape with your life like a
spoil of war, declares the LORD.’”
And said unto him,
Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the
Ammonites hath sent
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to
slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam believed them not.
and said to him, “Are you aware that Baalis king of the
Ammonites has sent
Ishmael son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah son of
Ahikam did not believe them.
But Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah,
Thou shalt not do this thing: for
thou speakest falsely of
Ishmael.
But Gedaliah son of
Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, “Do not do such a thing! What you are saying about
Ishmael is a lie.”
Then spake
Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah,
Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to
sojourn there:
Azariah son of Hoshaiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and all the
arrogant men said to Jeremiah, “You are lying! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to reside there.’
As for the word that
thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not
hearken unto thee.
“As for the word you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not
listen to you!
Thou didst say,
Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I
fainted in my
sighing, and I find no rest.
You have said, ‘
Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with
groaning and have found no rest.’”
Thus shalt
thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will
pluck up, even this whole land.
Thus Jeremiah was to say to
Baruch: “This is what the LORD says: Throughout the land I will
demolish what I have built and
uproot what I have planted.
And seekest
thou great things for
thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places
whither thou goest.
But as for you, do you seek great things for
yourself? Stop seeking! For I will bring
disaster on every living creature, declares the LORD, but wherever you go, I will grant your life as a
spoil of war.”
Go up into
Gilead, and take
balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt
thou use many medicines; for
thou shalt not be cured.
O
thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish
thyself to go into captivity: for
Noph shall be waste and
desolate without an inhabitant.
Pack your bags for exile, O daughter dwelling in Egypt! For
Memphis will be laid waste, destroyed and uninhabited.
They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
They will
chop down her forest, declares the LORD, dense
though it may be, for they are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted.
But fear not
thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
Fear
thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations
whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
O
thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be
ere thou be quiet? put up
thyself into thy
scabbard, rest, and be still.
‘
Alas, O sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your
sheath; cease and be still!’
There shall be no more praise of Moab: in
Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also
thou shalt be cut down, O
Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
There is no longer praise for Moab; in
Heshbon they
devise evil against her: ‘Come, let us cut her off from nationhood.’ You too, O people of
Madmen, will be silenced; the sword will pursue you.
For because
thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures,
thou shalt also be taken: and
Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
Because you trust in your works and treasures, you too will be captured, and
Chemosh will go into exile with his priests and officials.
Thou daughter that
dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in
thirst; for the
spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds.
Come down from your glory; sit on
parched ground, O daughter dwelling in Dibon, for the destroyer of Moab has come against you; he has destroyed your fortresses.
For was not Israel a
derision unto thee? was he found among
thieves? for since
thou spakest of him,
thou skippedst for joy.
Was not Israel your object of
ridicule? Was he ever found among
thieves? For whenever you speak of him you
shake your head.
Wherefore gloriest
thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O
backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?
Why do you
boast of your valleys— your valleys so fruitful, O faithless daughter? You trust in your riches and say, ‘Who can come against me?’
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have
assuredly drunken; and art
thou he that shall altogether go unpunished?
thou shalt not go unpunished, but
thou shalt surely drink of it.
For this is what the LORD says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, can you possibly remain unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for you must drink it too.
Thy terribleness hath
deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O
thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill:
though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
The terror you cause and the pride of your heart have
deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit.
Though you
elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
I have laid a
snare for thee, and
thou art also taken, O Babylon, and
thou wast not aware:
thou art found, and also caught, because
thou hast
striven against the LORD.
I laid a
snare for you, O Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it. You were found and captured because you
challenged the LORD.
Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.
“Behold, I am against you, O
arrogant one,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, “for your day has come, the time when I will
punish you.
For Israel hath not been
forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts;
though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.
For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
O
thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy
covetousness.
You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut.
Thou art my battle
axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
“You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I
shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but
thou shalt be
desolate for ever, saith the LORD.
No one shall
retrieve from you a cornerstone or a foundation stone, because you will become
desolate forever,” declares the LORD.
Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and
though she should
fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.
Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty
stronghold, the destroyers I send will come against her,” declares the LORD.
And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;
And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words
aloud,
Then shalt
thou say, O LORD,
thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be
desolate for ever.
and say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither man nor beast. Indeed, it will be
desolate forever.’
And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:
When you finish reading this
scroll,
tie a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates.
And
thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be
weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
Then you are to say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again, because of the
disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will grow
weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
Then the city was breached; and though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city, all the men of war fled the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden. They headed toward the Arabah,
This is the people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away
captive: in the seventh year three
thousand Jews and three and twenty:
These are the people
Nebuchadnezzar carried away: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews;
In the three and
twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carried away
captive of the Jews seven hundred forty and five persons: all the persons were four
thousand and six hundred.
in
Nebuchadnezzar’s twenty-third year, Nebuzaradan captain of the guard carried away 745 Jews. So in all, 4,600 people were taken away.
The
adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom
thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
The
adversary has seized all her treasures. For she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary— those You had forbidden to enter Your assembly.
They have heard that I
sigh: there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that
thou hast done it:
thou wilt bring the day that
thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me.
People have heard my
groaning, but there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are
glad that You have caused it. May You bring the day You have
announced, so that they may become like me.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as
thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are many, and my heart is
faint.
Let all their wickedness come before You, and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my groans are many, and my heart is
faint.
Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Look, O LORD, and consider: Whom have You ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the infants they have
nurtured? Should priests and prophets be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?
The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword;
thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger;
thou hast killed, and not
pitied.
Both young and old lie together in the dust of the streets. My young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered them without
compassion.
Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’S anger none escaped nor remained: those that I have
swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.
You summoned my attackers on every side, as for the day of an appointed feast. In the day of the LORD’s anger no one escaped or survived; my enemy has destroyed those I
nurtured and reared.
And
thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I
forgat prosperity.
My soul has been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.
But
though he cause grief, yet will he have
compassion according to the multitude of his
mercies.
Even if He causes grief, He will show
compassion according to His abundant loving devotion.
Thou hast covered with anger, and
persecuted us:
thou hast slain,
thou hast not
pitied.
You have covered
Yourself in anger and pursued us; You have killed without
pity.
Thou hast covered
thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.
You have covered
Yourself with a cloud that no prayer can pass through.
Thou hast made us as the
offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
You have made us
scum and refuse among the nations.
Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.
The waters flowed over my head, and I thought I was going to die.
Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
You heard my
plea: “Do not
ignore my cry for relief.”
Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
You drew near when I called on You; You said, “Do not be afraid.”
O Lord,
thou hast
pleaded the causes of my soul;
thou hast redeemed my life.
You defend my cause, O Lord; You
redeem my life.
O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.
You have seen, O LORD, the wrong done to me;
vindicate my cause!
Thou hast seen all their
vengeance and all their imaginations against me.
You have seen all their
malice, all their plots against me.
Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;
O LORD, You have heard their insults, all their plots against me—
Rejoice and be
glad, O daughter of
Edom, that dwellest in the land of
Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee:
thou shalt be
drunken, and shalt make
thyself naked.
Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.
You, O LORD, reign
forever; Your throne endures from generation to generation.
Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Restore us to
Yourself, O LORD, so we may return; renew our days as of old,
But
thou hast utterly rejected us;
thou art very
wroth against us.
unless You have utterly rejected us and remain
angry with us beyond measure.
For they are
impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and
thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.
They are
obstinate and
stubborn children. I am sending you to them, and you are to say to them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’
