overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who
was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of
Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, and he said: “We are yours, O David! We are with you, O son of

Issachar and
Zebulun and
Naphtali, brought bread on
asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of
raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: for there
was joy in Israel.
And their neighbors from as far away as

Zebulun, and
Naphtali came bringing food on
donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen—abundant supplies of flour, fig cakes and
raisin cakes, wine and oil, oxen and sheep. Indeed, there

And David

Then David became

For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.
It
was because you Levites were not with us the first time that the LORD our God
burst forth in anger against us. For we did not
consult Him about the proper order.”
And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites,
was for song: he
instructed about the song, because he
was skilful.
Chenaniah the head
Levite was the director of the music because he
was highly skilled.
And David
was clothed with a
robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an
ephod of linen.
Now David
was dressed in a
robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, as well as the singers and Chenaniah, the director of music for the singers. David also

Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-

Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
Asaph was the chief,
Zechariah was second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-
edom, and Jeiel. They were to play the harps and lyres, while
Asaph sounded the cymbals
And
Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that
was at
Gibeon,

Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in
Gibeon To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;

Also I will
ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness
waste them any more, as at the beginning,
And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
And

Now when
Joab saw that the battle
was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in
array against the Syrians.
When
Joab saw the battle lines before him and behind him, he selected some of the best men of Israel and
arrayed them against the Arameans.
And it
was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in
array against them. So when David had put the battle in
array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
When this
was reported to David, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, advanced toward the Arameans, and
arrayed for battle against them. When David lined up to
engage them in battle, they fought against him.
And it came to pass, that after the year
was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle,
Joab led forth the power of the army, and
wasted the country of the children of
Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David
tarried at Jerusalem. And
Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
In the spring, at the time when kings march out to war,
Joab led out the army and

And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to
weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it

spoil out of the city.
Then David took the crown from the head of their king. It
was found to
weigh a talent of gold and
was set with precious stones, and it
was placed on David’s head. And David took a great amount of
plunder from the city.
And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at
Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite
slew Sippai, that
was of the children of the
giant: and they were subdued.
Some time later, war broke out with the Philistines at
Gezer. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, a

And there
was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of
Jair slew Lahmi the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, whose
spear staff
was like a

was a battle with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of
Jair killed Lahmi the brother of

spear was like a

was war at

was still another battle at

was a man of great

Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah
was four hundred

And
Joab reported to David the total number of the troops. In all Israel there were 1,100,000 men who drew the sword, including 470,000 in Judah.
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word
was abominable to
Joab.
But
Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the count, because the king’s command
was detestable to him.
And God
was displeased with this thing; therefore he
smote Israel.
This command was also evil in the sight of God; so He struck Israel.
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he
was destroying, the LORD
beheld, and he
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, but as the angel
was doing so, the LORD saw it and relented from the
calamity, and He said to the angel who
was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD
was standing by the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “
Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him
hid themselves. Now Ornan
was threshing wheat.
Now Ornan
was threshing wheat when he turned and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him
hid themselves.

enquire of God: for he
was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
